This is hands-down my pick for best overall 4K release of the year. The VS restoration looks incredible, and of course, the packaging speaks for itself. The included documentary is also awesome. VS knocked it out of the park big time with this one. Can't wait to see what their next VSU is gonna be on Jan. 1. Vinegar Syndrome is kicking ass... we need some more higher-profile titles from them. I'd be down with a Point Break restoration as the perfect companion film to Road House. 😉 Great review Ken.
No I would not say the best 4k release of this year bc there has been alot of very good 4k releases this year and roadhouse is a very good film but I would not say one of the best but I would say roadhouse is in the top 15 4k releases this year but not the number 1 releases of the year in 4k
My mom showed me this movie when I was a kid and thought it was cool. She showed me a lot of movies that weren't for kids lol. Scarface. Pulp Fiction. Reservoir Dogs. Goodfellas. Full Metal Jacket. Etc.
ken, it's this type of energy and sincerity that makes you #1 in my book. That aside, congrats on watching this movie in this quality for the first time.
Great review 👍I saw this on rental back in the VHS days...I may have owned it on VHS but for some reason I'd never had it on DVD or Blu-ray so I leapt at the chance to get this on 4K and was not disappointed. I got the standard edition but aside from the packaging it's basically the same. One thing you didn't mention in your review is the soundtrack...some of the music in this movie sounds absoultely fantastic on this transfer, you're immediately put "in the club" and enjoying the atmosphere...it's so cool ! I especially like all the songs by the Jeff Healey Band (the blind guitarist "Cody" is actually played by Jeff Healey himself !). Whenever I've watched this I always feel the last few mins could have been a little bit better (the fight with Ben Gazzara and the final shootout) but aside from that it's more or less a perfect 80s action movie and a must own🙂👍
It's such a beautiful 4k , probably the best of year. It's like watching a completely different movie and that's the great thing about 4k on older movies. I'm glad vs is getting bigger titles. I'm one of those who got his name from this movie.
This is a tremendous 4K release of one of my favorite late 80's films. My only very small quibble is why Vinegar Sundrome only does HD10 rather than also including Dobly Vision. They did include DV on their 4K release of "Tammy and the T-Rex" however (unless I am mistaken), that is the only one to date.
VS has always had the best restoration and packaging. They're just starting to get more buzz now, because they're releasing bigger titles. Which I'm perfectly fine with. I know a lot of people hate the bigger titles, but I'd rather have those than shitty movies I've never heard of.
And it's getting more eyes on the label, which is always a good thing. It's already making me want to dive headfirst into the crap, just because of these few great releases they've done. Lol
@@midlevelmedia I'm thinking about doing the subscription this year as well. I have a solid 150 VS titles. They're very addicting as a label once you get into collecting the slips.
Mine finally came in the mail today!!! This is the best 4k box set artwork ever. I love everything they did outstanding. I got it for 45 bucks . I love how they have original artwork for the slipcover.
The best 4K transfers i've seen this year are Casablanca, Reservoir Dogs, Malcolm X, True Romance, Lost Highway, Raging Bull, Paths of Glory, The Apartment, and Touch of Evil. There are several great studios putting out amazing work that can compete for best 4K label now and that's an amazing thing. 2022 was an incredible year for the medium. Very much looking forward to 2023. If Vinegar Syndrome releases some movies i like on 4K i'll definitely start buying them up. I hope they succeed and bring us some great titles next year.
I have all of those except THE APARTMENT, CASABLANCA, and PATHS OF GLORY. I had to stay within budget but I'mma git 'em, I'mma git 'em. Just need a little more time and money set aside.
I just ordered the 4K from Vinegar Syndrome. I’m a Sucker for a Good Bar Fight so this should be right up my alley. Also that Packaging looks absolutely amazing. Road House is one I have never seen so to experience this in 4K should be a Treat and this is actually my first Vinegar Syndrome release purchase
Recently bought the soundtrack on Cd for this movie from the thrift store. Already have a downloaded 4k blu ray but have not seen the transfer yet. Will definitely order the boxset once it is available. A very entertaining 80' flick and some amazing songs are in the movie. Pure Nostalgia!!!
Must studios just try and push it out and not take the time to do a good job,I have gotten the Beastmaster box set, and the Road House box set, it screams quality,I haven’t gotten around to checking Road House out yet, sounds like I will have to get to it soon!, great video
Buddy you do a great job on your videos , you deserve way more subs then 15k , no worries your channel will grow fast. You put alot of time and effort in you deserve it.P.S , never watch Road House ? Dude what the hell were you doing all your life ? Lol
@@midlevelmedia I was gonna say where we're you during the late 80s but I'm pretty sure you were born in the 90s lol. Anyhow great pick up man packaging looks amazing.
Arrow shot itself in the foot with the QC issues they've had in the last year-and-a-half. Too many disc recalls. I still think they can come back to neck-and-neck but VS has been extremely cautious in how they do their releases and it's paid off in spades. VS also isn't afraid to do dual-format and Arrow is vehemently opposed to that, which can hurt the wallet. I don't like ROAD HOUSE as much as it's fans do, but I had to order it because I wasn't going to risk it selling out. I stayed up late just to buy it as soon as midnight came around.
Interestingly, the blind singer/guitarist in the bar was named Jeff Healey and he had a very successful career but unfortunately he died in 2008 of lung cancer.
im surprised by this cover for this 4k it is a terrific upgrade from the shout factory Bluray vinegar syndrome did a good job it has a really Nice cover art on the box you would think that Warner could Take chances with mgm studio released editions too, similar to vinegar or arrow and it could work if they had a plan that will help them im not saying that studio editions of mgm movies should be dissed all together for third party distributors by themselves what i am saying is, if you have More people taking Proper care of these mgm titles, all over the place, third party and studio editions together, it would help, so that people have More choice also, this film was parodied on family guy

Haven't watched my copy of Roadhouse yet but you need to see some of the 4k releases from "Blue Underground" they are up there with the best releases on the 4k format.
Yeah, this movie is really entertaining. For some reason, it's kind of a lost film. I remember it took forever before it finally came to Blu Ray. Anyway, I'll wait for amazon to get it.
Vinegar Syndrome Sucks! as far as customer service goes. I ordered this on January 1st with Deluxe packaging/Priority Mail. They Just shipped it out Yesterday on the 10th. So I Still don’t have it. They did a similar thing to me back when I bought Amityville Horror from them. I’m glad they don’t do a lot of Popular titles cuz I really don’t want to deal with them again.
They could definitely be faster on their shipping, but you have to understand, they're still a relatively small company that does all their work in house. Takes a bit to get things done. Not as quick as an Amazon or Walmart, but I can guarantee the quality will be there and your stuff won't be damaged.
I see your point. However there should be a disclaimer on their website, explaining delays in shipping. Rather than simply let us pick Deluxe/Priority, expecting a fast delivery. And they weren’t friendly about it either, I might add. Their email responses are brief and tbh, a bit rude as well. I agree their packaging is excellent though.

TCM2 4k from VinSyn isn’t that great. It’s good, but nothing special. But their Madman 4k is god AWFUL. But that may be because the original film elements were in such bad shape.
No disrespect to any true fans but prior to this vinegar syndrome release I've never heard anyone talk about this film. It's funny to me how once the release drops everyone on youtube acts as if theyve been waiting on the edge of their seats for this release. Vinegar Syndrome is top shelf and I'm pleased they are doing titles like this but I just think this one title is being way over hyped.
Cool video but I would not say vinegar syndrome is the king of 4k bc vinegar syndrome does a very good job on all there releases on bluray and 4k but vinegar syndrome does release alot of bottom of the barrel films that are not worth buying at there high price tag but i will say this vinegar syndrome does put out about 12 amazing films a year on bluray and 4k and keep the videos coming

you would think that Warner could Take chances with mgm studio released editions too,
