In terms of hacking pockets: Are they still only considered for situations where straight pockets are not possible (as in, always go straight pockets, unless you can't), or do people today put them on sports jackets for any and all situations, even when they are not needed?
one of the most complete and well put together explanation about all the important details on jackets I have found. Congratulations and many many thanks for your good advice of always Antonio...
Great stuff Antonio! I'm a Mechanical Engineer and have always been on the manufacturing floor for the most of my career. It is only now that I am based in the corporate office and your guidance is really awesome! I've been called "dapper" by some of the office ladies...thanks to you!
Very good for beginners. If someone wants to quickly improve their awareness in formal men’s fashion, I’d recommend this video probably as the second one in the playlist.
This is pretty hilarious HAHAHAHA. I opened few of your tabs all at once. Each loaded subsequently slower, so everything went like "HI, HI, HI, HI, HI, HI, IM ANTO- ,IM ANTO-, IM ANTO-, NIO, NIO, NIO
+Pelle Svanslös Thanks! Just flowers. - Gardenia, Lily of the Valley, Sweet William, Orchids, Hyacinths, Daisies, and Lilacs are all excellent choices. Use only fresh, real flowers - no fake ones. This article should give you more information - www.realmenrealstyle.com/boutonnieres-mens-lapel/
After seeing most of your vids and thinking I know nearly everything I should know, you go on about shoulder styles - always thought there's only one. This could be helpful when I'm finally gonna get my new suit. Thanks!
This video has a great combination of technical detail and practicality. I had seen the shawl lapel on Tiger of Sweden suits before this, but I had no idea what they were. Thank you, it is very helpful!
I personally like the double breasted jacket, and I believe they are coming back into style. An interesting piece of trivia is that the vents on the mens jacket was for when horses were ridden, and allowed the wearer to get on and off the horse more comfortable.
this is some great advice. i went to a thrift store after watching this video and was able to identify a very nice jacket among the rest of the items on. the shelf. it fit me well, so i bought it for $20 and took it home to find that it was a 100% wool Saks Fifth Signature jacket that lists on their websit,e for over $1300. i don't really worry about brand, was just looking for quality and this video helped me find an amazing deal. thanks to Antonio for this and other great videos.
For my suit and sport coat I go for either a soft shoulder style (mostly for suits) or an entirely unconstructed shoulder. I have plenty of mass on my shoulders and trapezius so I don't need padding, And I like hack pockets the most in contrary to flat pockets, but that is just my preference. Nice video and please keep them coming!
Very informative - what I've learned in this video will give me time to think about the design elements I want in my suit. I have an appointment in September to be measured. Great presentation. Thanks
I have a note for the lining part. Actually Bemberg and Rayon (and viscose) are the same thing, just different brand names and such. They are all a natural-based material that is made from the cellulose of wood pulp or cotton. They are all good at breathing. The one that you don't wanna go with is the polyester ones. Polyester and other whole-synthetic fibers are the ones with bad breathability. Generally speaking.
Gracias Antonio , por tan excelente y didáctica manera de hacernos comprender a todos los hombres, la importancia de saber cuando y como saber escoger la chaqueta apropiada. Saludos desde Venezuela williams gallardo semper fidellis
Tremendous details. I really enjoy seeing somebody talk about the things they love and really know what they are talking about. I enjoy your videos a lot Antonio and let me tell, although I don't have the money yet to buy suits or clothes like the ones you really about in your UA-cam channel, I really look forward to knowing how to dress well and properly with your help. Now I want to make a small, maybe dumb question: what is the difference between a sports jacket and blazer? And anything else that looks like that, I don't really know about those things and I would really like to know more.
Really good video thanks for the info. Could you make a video about all the different materials, patterns, and Interior Pockets, like what is the function and name of each one.
glad that I had heard half of them before and half of them is new to me. I would love to know more about the functional cuff features. I heard that people (especially in military) actually used to pull up/rolled up their cuffs in the suit jackets when they work. Now the cuffs are usually closed for the off the rack ones. So people who have a functional cuffs intentionally unbutton the first button to show that it's a functional cuff. British call it subtlety. Okay you finally tell us about your "left" pocket thing......
Hi! Great channel. I've almost watched all your videos. But so far I haven't seen one about the chelsea boot. What is your take on how to wear it, what colours to go for, different materials (leather vs suede), what pants to match it with, etc. Thanks in advance! OMD
Can you offer some insight on how to "properly" wear a boutonniere using the lapel button hole? I have always assumed that the stem of the flower is intended to go into the button hole and be secured out of sight, but the image you displayed in this video shows the stem placed against the outside of the lapel.
The lapel pin buttonhole I understood was for a hat cord. Rayon is made from cellulose. Bemberg (trade name ) also known as Cupro is a type of Rayon and is fine. Kilometrage may vary with Rayons made by other processes. Polyester shoudn't be worn if one want a suit to breathe.
Regarding tne lapel buttonhole, the guys over the gents lounge said it dates back to the time when hats were a standard part of the suit, and was stitched so men could attach their hats to the jacket to avoid their hats to fall to the ground specially in windy places like Chicago, but I guess you could find a ton of fun fact versions to it if you go to google.
+Adrian Principe Thanx for letting me know more about the wind trolley, I never saw one before and thus I thought maybe this version of the origin of the laoel buttonhole was just another one passing around the web
I would like to see more stuffs about how young people can dress better with simple trick. You always seems to give ideas and tips which are helpful ! Also i will graduate in about one year and i want to know which suit is better for such ceremony ? thanks a lot :D
Great video as always. I have been thinking about your comment on that most off the rack suit jackets are single-vented. Perhaps this is an american thing? Where I live most suit jackets that are off the rack even quite cheap ones are almost always double-vented. In some cases they might be single-vented yes but mostly double vented. Or maybe it is the other way around that this is much more common up here in the northen Europe? Then again single-vented jackets are much harder to make fit properly for most men.
hi Antonio, your videos are awesome and helpful,I have a question ,can I wear under navy suit a navy cardigan or navy v sweater ,or its a mistake ? thanks
Any tips / rules for style of jacket, ie, button number / lapel style to be made as a 3 piece suit? Should the number of buttons on the waistcoat reflect the number on the suit?
Gotta be honest I'm not a fan of the double vent I like the single vent look even when it opens with your hand in your pocket but I guess that's the fun of fashion everyone has different tastes! Nice video I like to learn facts on suits and what not
My height is 5 feet 7.72 inch. I bought a black one button suit from the Kooples. I am wondering if it is suitable for a job interview (Business school faculty position in well-known University)? Will it too informal? What kind of tie and shirt should I wear? Thanks. I find your videos are all very helpful.
Great video! I'm building my wardrobe and I'm not sure how long my jackets should be. I don't have a lot of extra money so I am buying off the rack. I'm 5' 10" and fit a 46 very well but I'm not sure if I should buy 46R or 46L. I like how the 46R looks but I've been told I should be wearing 46L. I'd appreciate the help. Thank you.
The other day I was browsing on a store and I saw a "double-breasted" suit that had it's buttons stitched in almost a V angle and it closed just on the lowest one, and the shoulders were a bit notched upwards. Oddest off-the-rack looking suit I've seen to date. Also, great video, I love whenever they're just about a single subject.
Question: I'm a student so I'm mainly bound to thrift stores. I needed a suit jacket for interviews, presentations, etc. They only one I found there that fit me was a tux jacket with a satin lapel and button covered in fabric. Would it be appropriate to wear this in business or would it be too tacky or something?
Unnamed RedShirt that would be too formal. perhaps try to go with a sport coat and slacks instead. also, keep looking every couple days if you can. most places will have new things in all the time.
Hi Antonio I have a question. When it comes to a sport jacket how long should the sleeves be? Should they cover my wrists or should they be right above my wrists?
+Awdale thanks for replying . I appreciate it. I wore the one button suit , it was a three piece, and i got a lot of complements. You couldnt tell it was a one button because it was all black and the lighting was kinda dark . Thanks again.
Hi, can you advise me whether a double breasted suit with a V type button is an abomination or not? Since I had a double breasted suit with that type of button. And if it's an abomination, should I modify the mid button's position to match the mid button's position?
I find it curious that you consider double vent rare to find in off-the-rack stores. Frankly I don't know if I've ever seen anything except double vent in off-the-rack stores. Every suit I've ever bought has them. Maybe it's different location to location, I'm in Canada.
What is The differensiert between a suit jacket and a sports jacket. I can guess on some fabrics, like that there are no such thing like a velvet sports jacket? But are there any big differences besides that? Length, sholders, pockets, buttons and so on? This is probably obvious in The U.S, but not so simple for people from other countries to understand. Thanks, love your vids! Keep it up :)

I noticed the right-hand pocket on another video, and seeing that with your wedding ring on your right hand I thought the video was flipped! (You might have noticed the comment.) Kudos for messing with my head :-)
Just ordered a dirt cheap suit from dhgate (china) based on my meassurements and some tips on fitting from a RMRS-video. Hope that it'll be passable for a suit lolz.
Real Men Real Style Thanks Antonio I'll need it. For 85$ I'll be happy if it arrives in one piece. If it'll make it through a wedding and a couple of nights out with heavy drinking I'll consider it a success. Might even try spraying it with water-resistant spray to keep it from staining. Hopefully I'll have enough money next year for a real suit.
gamlagubbengren I mean, most others will probably be in T-shirts/hoodies and jeans, so you'll probably stand out a bit, but that's not a bad thing. If you like it and you're confident dressing like that then go for it and people will get used to it. Besides, if you're going to a new school or are likely going to be making new friends, it'll probably be easier social/peer-pressure wise to just dress like that as soon as they meet you, rather than them getting to know you when you just wear T-shirts, changing the way you dress after that, and then having them likely question why you start dressing so nice all of a sudden. Bottom line: You might be considered "overdressed" to a lot of other 9th graders but in the end, who cares? Do what makes you feel happy and confident. If someone picks you apart for dressing "too nice" then they weren't worth getting to know anyway.
