    Amazing tutorial! Explains very good the principle of straights and curves. I'd love to see you use this on a character like Cherry, for example to get a better understanding of how to use this on a more complex drawing.

    Great tutorial! I'd always used straights against curves to add visual variety in my character designs, but never thought to apply it as a way to push the line of action. Great tip!!!

      Yeap, it's a very fun and effective technique. Now when you observe cartoons on tv... you will spot it :)

    I know this is a major piece lacking in my cartooning. Always struggling with how to locate and define the line of action. Curves and Straights will be my new mantra. Cheers!

    Great teaching Paris. I have to admit my artwork has soared ever since picking up your How to videos and even these small videos you do for us helps me out big time. I love your teaching I love your work, when people ask me how do I draw that? I tell them, from my new instructor a man named Paris Christou and you can find him on youtube educating many in the world of art and animation. Please keep up the good work my friend.

      hehehehe cough cough lol Its actually the same thing just depends on how cartoony the character is. the more realistic the character... the more subtle approach to this technique :)

    • @Toonboxstudio
      @Toonboxstudio  10 років тому +1

      Yeah ofcourse :) As long as it's in a cartoon form. If you are going for realism... then we are talking about S and C curves :)

If so the pens they come with are they good enough or should i be looking for something good enough? please keep the videos coming, i check in everyday to see if there's something new!

    • @Toonboxstudio
      @Toonboxstudio  10 років тому

      Hey thanks dude :) It gets easier through tons of practice. As for the Cintiq... depends on your budget! If you can afford to get the 24HD.... go for it!!! its awesome :) Otherwise, any of the cintiqs will do the trick :)

    Hey man, love your videos, but I do have a question about your 'feathering' technique when you draw your lines.
    A lot of artists (especially fine artists) say that this is a bad thing to do, it's better to use one strong line rather than multiple small ones. But I heard that animators are taught that feathering is better - I'm sure there isn't a clear right or wrong here but why are animators told to draw like this when fine artists say it's bad?

    • @Toonboxstudio
      @Toonboxstudio  10 років тому +3

      Hi :)
      Fine artists are not meant to really create cartoons but when it comes to illustrating cartoon characters for either comics, frames in an animation or just a picture on a poster... There are no rules, as long as the outline is clean and visable. Now adays, everyone is really into vector solid lines which is a cool crisp look. In my oppinion, I prefer the feathering technique with a pencil tool just because it gives a natural look and its really easy to control to get the little details in there.

    Is it possible to do animation on Sketchbook Pro or is it not possible. I wanna do a cool little 10 second animation for fun some day if it's possible.

    • @Toonboxstudio
      @Toonboxstudio  10 років тому

      Its possible to create little sequences and to practice. But you can't export the animation as a video and you can't add sound. Maybe in the future... Sketchbook pro will take the animation side seriously and develop it since they have all the tools in the software :)
