I miss Greg and Colin because that is what made them a dynamic duo. Greg is the exact opposite of Colin which is why they worked well together. I wonder why Tim doesn't like Colin it seems only Tim can answer that one.
Exactly. I used to watched every show because Colin and Greg balanced out the shows together. It was great while it lasted.
Because Tim is (understandably) insecure about his own intellect and opinions, especially when compared to someone like Colin who is clearly more interesting, educated, and intelligent.

Tim is just the worst. He was the only KF member I didn’t like from day 1. It’s no surprise he was behind Colin’s leaving. Colin’s a smart guy, Tim is as thick as 2 short planks. It’s no wonder they never got on
really enjoy pretty much everybody on kinda funny except Tim something about him just seems fake and lame could never put my finger on it exactly but he always seemed like a weasel, this kinda confirms my intuition.

Tim is just a very…. plain person, if that makes sense. He makes noise and stuff but he is a VERY uninteresting person.
I’ve actually really grown to like Tim as a host, I just wish he’d address this (privately is completely fine, we aren’t owed anything). It’s okay to make mistakes as a young man and own up to them as you reflect, it’s a shame that that seemingly hasn’t happened.
@@oncecursed1 I don’t think I could ever like him. And it isn’t even the Colin stuff. He’s just comes off as so…. empty. He doesn’t seem to have any real interest or inner world. He’s just this bland, sometimes loud, guy who never says anything interesting.
That’s my read on him. I always cringed when he would speak on KF. But now I don’t have to deal with that since I stopped watching that channel.

I don't necessarily think that means that Greg or Colin is any more or less in the wrong. Greg has learned and changed through the years, Colin found that he hasn't needed to/shouldn't change.

Colin is SO well spoken, man. It's crazy. I'm always interested in hearing his takes on specific things. Sometimes he's too-biased, maybe too-willing to die on specific hills but I often times find myself very interested in what he has to say.
I typically don't agree with his political stances but even going back to the "Conversation with Colin" days he always made a point to highlight how it's okay to not agree on everything and it always felt incredibly sincere.
He and Greg 100% had a really good and entertaining dynamic but when he left KF that was it for me as well. Ironically enough I didn't even think that would be the nail in the coffin for me but Colin really was much more than just 1/4th of KF. It felt hollow after his departure.
It's absolutely insane that Tim was such an antagonist to Colin. I can see why they didn't really get along, but that stuff was super uncool if true.
It's funny, I've always had mixed feelings about him as a personality as well. I watched KF for Colin and Greg (and enjoyed Nick as well), but Tim always felt a very 90-IQ guy with boring takes. I no longer watch KF at all. Interesting how you just vibe with certain people and not others.
@@Epiousios18 I struggled to get into Kinda Funny because of Tim. People say he was immature because he was so into Disney and stuff like that. I disagree. I think he was immature but the Disney stuff is separate. I'm into Disney too. The difference is that's not all I have to offer. I can also have mature conversations about tons of other things. Tim seemed he had nothing of value to add. It felt like he got lucky falling in with this group and managed to become successful thanks to them but knew nothing and brought nothing to any conversation he was a part of
@@joevictor53 Likely all true, but I'm sure he provides value to the crew of some kind, otherwise they wouldn't keep him around. His value could be in production, and the fact that he's more "likeable" to a wider audience than Colin who could be a bit salty, admittedly. But without question, KF was worlds better when it was Greg and Colin.

Also, while I can guarantee he adds some value he also seems like the type of giy we all have worked with. I haven't watched KF for a long time, but Tim was always my least favourite part. He brought nothing to the table, but had this overriding arrogance and swagger that felt entirely unearned.

Im glad Craig actually pushed Colin to call out Tim. A lot of people act like calling people out is immature or unclassy. But there is a time and a place when it's necessary. People like Tim deserve to be called out. They are the type of people that make jobs miserable. The type of people to turn people against you. Always scheming and undermining.
This hurt hearing. I'm someone who casually watches Kinda Funny, and never really dug into what happened, its their lives, I've got my own like we all do. I'm not into drama just but this just happened across my feed, I'd have never guessed who had a problem with Colin, or that it was such a strong feeling. All the best to you, Mr. Moriarty.

And on KF they call Tim Gettys "The Pure One." That's kind of a misnomer.
It's sad how Colin thinks he was holding them back when he was the one bringing in the views. He was the main subject in many of their most popular videos. People came to that channel for Colin. Just like Podcast Beyond. I mean, they literally had a show where Colin just talks about random things and each episode got tens of thousands of views. There's a video with 50k views where Colin talks about his love for mayonnaise. Colin was always the main draw of that channel. I wish he could see that.
The silver lining to the situation was that Colin got to work on other passion projects like CLL and Sacred Symbols. The latter which feels far less corporate than Kinda Funny. Colin had the decency to say he wasn’t perfect, but he got dealt a bad hand at a hostile table.
Respect to Colin for owning up to the fact that a lot of the breakup was due to him and his attitude. Hopefully someday he can make up with Greg on some level. The content that those two put out together was really better than anything they have ever done separately.
I would disagree, the content Colin is putting out now is superior imo, but I definitely agree that them two collaborating would be awesome.
Yeah I like Colins content, but it is crazy to think.... From a success stand point, soooo many people want to see them back together. They were a duo that worked so well off of each other.

The reality is as long as Tim is in the Picture, Greg and Colin will never truly reconnect

Colin was the best part of Kinda Funny. I still wish that someday he and Greg will make up and do some sort of podcast together although I know that’s extremely unlikely.

@@TheEregosHe’s basically been excommunicated from the industry and it’s not over the joke but 1000% because of how toxic he was in the following years (especially on Twitter). I also remember he thought women/liberals were losing it for no reason after 2016 cause no way was something institutional like Roe v. Wade getting overturned cause of Trump (oops lol).
Greg is too entrenched in the system to get away with that.

I don't know if you can attribute that to Kinda Funny themselves. I would guess they weren't necessarily monitoring chat that closely. I could see it being a Twitch mod that thought that was what they should do. But also I don't know.
The whole reason people cared was Colin and Greg. Tim was always a side character and a San Francisco soft boy. he has a lot of hypocritical moments that are so cringe, and he can be jovial sure, but mostly just ignorant, and it's so sad to hear this because I feel like I always knew. Then he brought in his best friend and brother, and, like, ugh, just changed the whole vibe. Honesty, I cannot watch anything he is on, and the channel has never been as good since you left.
I always thought Tim was a shady dude. He is the one that really turned me off to kinda funny. There is no channel without Greg but Colin was the balance to the channel. Its a shame.
The fact that this stuff all happened a decade ago and people still care is proof that Colin and Greg were a special duo in the PlayStation ecosystem and it’s a shame we won’t have anything else like it again.
As someone who was a massive Podcast Beyond and later Kinda Funny fan you could tell there was tension between Tim and Colin every time they were on a show together. The way he acted around him was odd and it makes a lot of sense that is how it was.
On point. Same for me been listening to beyond since it's inception, and when they made kinda funny, the chemistry was weird and I always thought that Tim was part of that reason. And Colin just confirmed it

It really did hurt KF, I was watching daily and now I barely watch a video by them. It feels less natural, and some desperation transpires from behind the scenes, several times Greg complained about views kinda joking and kinda not and I barely watch them, still catched that. I much preferred the time it felt casual and just friends chatting. Of course Colin was great to have a different flavour, it had more layers than atm.
it's all fluff now...Greg is a hard carry now...though Blessing was a good addition. Besides that meh

Greg and Collin had a great buddy-cop style relationship. The goofier, high enegery one and the serious, contemplative one. It was a great dynamic that awsome to watch. Tim though.... like no offense to the guy, but he just offers nothing in comparison.
I’ve always been a big fan of Colin and Greg. Together I believe they made a compelling duo. They a good cop bad cop kinda vibe. But it was clear KF was moving in a direction that Colin did not want to be a part of. Coupled with all the interpersonal tensions though I was sad to see him leave I’m happy he continues to be a voice in games journalism. His views can be thought provoking and sometimes challenging in a way that’s not the massive avalanche of a personality that Greg launches at you while also being knowledgeable and hysterical.
The hay days of podcast beyond and early KF in the house / apartment were golden. I miss it, but I also love where Colin is now. The fact Colin sold his shares back and said he'd regret it and Greg said he won't, he will be fine was probably the last shard of that relationship shining through. Greg saw his potential and knew he had a following and Greg also knew they could now do what they wanted at KF without any backlash w/ Colin. Either way, been loving Last Stand's content since its inception and was shocked when Chris was the co-host of Sacred, then adding Dustin was perfect as he is the balancer between the other two and keeps em honest and on task. They do things how they want and don't bend the knee to companies. Love it. As for KF, I don't watch them anymore post Colin, but I still think Greg is probably the best in the industry in terms of hosting and personality and I wish them well. Great interview
Tim is the worst thing on kinda funny.
Tim really comes off as thinking he is the best thing since sliced bread. He has such an air about him when he talks about any topic that what he says is fact and every one else is wrong. Hearing this sort of stuff really doesn't surprise me at all. Such a sad tragic thing that happened. I remember seeing the happiness in their launch videos of Kinda Funny. To go to this.

Yeah he has described himself as a schemer i'm pretty sure back in the day and that is always how he came off. Totally inauthentic, just wants fame, money, recognition. He always came off as the kind of guy that would literally do anything to be famous.
Yea going by this video it sounds like he was going to be a problem from the start. Its never a good sign for a team when one of the members are trying to push you out before you even start.

this video has been bothering me for a few days and i just have to say, Colin is right that the gang was not "political" prior to booting him out, but they weren't in a vacuum. Everyone (as in society) got involved in politics after 2016, and it's unfair for Colin to say that none of the guys weren't political. Also, my favorite Colin topics at the start of KF were the political ones-- these guys evolved with every discussion and for sure developed their opinions with what Colin was saying plus what was happening in the world around then. They weren't supposed to agree completely with what Colin believed-- but also Colin did say problematic things that that guys definitely didn't believe agree
I used to be big fan of Kinda Funny... Once the company became a beacon for the "progressive" movement in the video game space, in my opinion, it went wayyyyyy downhill... THey lost a lot of their authenticity when Colin left.
I recall having stumbled into KF content way back and noticed Colin had a different vibe from the rest of the crew. Not a bad vibe, but just different. It's unfortunate that they had to go their separate ways the way they did, but I think that was for the best so they couldn't hold each other back. Now CLS and KF are both very successful brands on their own. Live and learn.
I'd say his vibe grew more negative as the show went on. Greg and the crew wanted to make a commercially viable brand and Collin wanted to use it as his "safe place" to vocalize opinions and thoughts with disregard to the damage it could do the brand in it's entirety. He 100% wanted it to be a Joe Rogan style network while KF wanted to be a more earnest and less corporate controlled IGN type format. I think there's an audience for both, but KF made the right choice parting ways with Colin.

I'm surprised so many comments are surprised it's Tim. This was really obvious to viewers from the start. It obviously wasn't going to be Greg and Nick always beamed and lit up when Colin was around. For me Tim was always the weak link because he was a sign of the times in gaming where everything was about overreaction and shouting and being almost obnoxiously into near childish and or "bad" things. Like his constant bit around Fast and the Furious.
I've watched Colin & Greg since early BEYOND days, it was my first ever podcast and I felt like the world revolved around me for a moment when my favourite two people in games went and started their own thing. I'd love to see them just have a conversation one day. I think that would fulfil me in some way.
I know this is a cliché to say “oh man this platform is nothing without this person” but truly, I watched Kinda Funny for Colin and Colin and Greg’s dynamic. It’s fine now but I guess it just left a void when Colin left.

I never used to think Gregg was THE star. To me it was the duality of both Gregg and Collin that made their shows interesting. When Collin left I think both got affected and still are because that duality is gone

I always had this feeling like Tim was a douche long before this. Hearing this just solidifies it. I'm glad Colin has moved on and I'm sad Greg isn't his friend anymore.
Just a reminder that one Al Bundy joke necessitated the departure of Colin from a company he founded, yet back to back incidents of controversy over the last few years at Rooster Teeth and the only reason Kinda Funny isn’t partnered with them still is cuz RT doesn’t exist anymore.
Can I just say - as someone that worked at IGN right after this crew left - a lot of the people who worked there are absolute snakes. I met Greg a couple times and I always felt like he was genuine. I think I would've gotten along with Colin had we worked together. But the things he's saying about Tim here absolutely track with a lot of those people at IGN and more of it had to do with politics than he thinks. I remember telling someone one day I didn't identify as a feminist, and the reaction I got was like... let's just say it made me feel like I was admitting to a crime.
Damon and Brian are both great dudes. Pretty much everyone else I met, in the end, turned out to be fake AF and legitimately mentally ill.

If true, I could see how Tim would’ve been jealous about Colin and Greg’s relationship. I mean, they were pretty much the faces of IGN before they moved to KF, and the dynamic they created was like no other. I’ve never been a fan of Tim; he just has a vibe about him that comes off as arrogant. And all those “AKAs” that Greg throws at him every show doesn’t help.

I was a Colin and Greg fan from before KF, like I can assume a lot of you were. I was there day one of KF and was there when it all collapsed. This is cathartic for a lot of fans, I know it is for me. So thank you for this.
I get the strong feeling that Tim wasn’t a fan of Colin because Colin isn’t a fall-in-line liberal the way Tim (and virtually everyone else in the gaming world) is. I remember a round table discussion the guys were having before the 2016 election where Colin was making good points and a succinct argument and Tim was LITERALLY sulking with a frown on his face trying not to cry and lash out.
Oh well. It’s for the best. Colin is far more the intellectual.

I'll never forget watching that 1st recording, after the announcement Colin was leaving. Greg was torn up, obviously. Crying. And not knowing what Colin says here, I could tell Tim was completely disingenuous in his feeling about Colin leaving. I remember thinking, "I don't believe Tim..." and now it makes sense.
At that stream, people were calling out Tim too. People can smell a rat from Miles away.
After all of these years I’m hearing this I’m just as angry as I was back then when they turned their back on Colin he was the best of Kinda Funny the guy is just fascinating and intelligent, I tuned in for him and I left with him. I thought at some point I’d get over it and no it still hurts man.
I loved watching Colin and Greg. Probably the only tolerable thing about IGN ever. When they left, it was nice to see them be unchained by the corporation but... as soon as that first stream of "gimme money" "give us donations" I was out. I just didnt see any enjoyment in begging your fanbase for money when ya quit your jobs

I’m not a fan of Colin, to be honest. I appreciate his knowledge and his ability to communicate, his vibe just doesn’t fit mine. It’s fine. What Tim and Kinda Funny did to him was atrocious. Tim was the only one who wasn’t sad on that day they announced Colin was leaving. Tim is pompous and his ability to derail shows is what made me stop watching Kinda Funny. Sad.
I want more videos on hating Kinda Funny, they were the first podcast I listened to when i first got into longform content and grew to slowly hate them over the course of a year.

I was really sad when Colin left, I always thought his insights were a good balance with Greg. I’ve always liked Greg as a host I think he’s really talented. Tim is good as well but sometimes can come off as arrogant. It’s just a shame that things can be misunderstood between people and some rifts can happen. I hope one day they’re all able to sort out there differences. I think they all have a voice in the industry. For context I lean politically conservative but I don’t mind if someone else disagrees with me, we’re all different to some extent and honestly I don’t know much about Colin’s politics. I would guess Greg and Tim lean liberal but as long as we can talk about games and why we like them, etc. I feel like that shouldn’t be an issue. I’d honestly love to have a job where I could discuss this stuff. I’ve learned so much from both people I agree with and people I disagree with.
Colin and Greg were my favorite Duo, loved Ryan as their third back in the old IGN days.
Greg was my favorite of the two at first but Colin is like wine and gets better the more you hear his thoughts.

Altano has admitted to far worse on podcasts, so his judgement needs to be rescinded.
You ignored a lot of the things Colin himself mentioned... He was/is surly, late, difficult to deal with and highly opinionated. This idea that him leaving was solely down to Colin's joke is silly. At the end of the day, he himself admitted to making his own mistakes. So while I respect and like Colin, it is obvious that he played his part
The irony for kinda funny was that colin was the star and he didn't even know it. So glad he decided to keep making content in last stand media because the true gamers value what he has to say and value his knowledge. Can't say I ever really liked or disliked Tim but I always felt he was being false or his upbeat personality was forced. Glad Colin is on a much better path nowadays.

There's a video where Colin talks about his love of mayonnaise and it has 50k views for crying out loud. Colin was always the star of that show. He was the star of Podcast Beyond too. He was the central figure in their most popular and influential era. It's sad on two fronts. Not only did he not get his credit for how loved he was, but he never felt the love himself.
Always liked Colin and Greg together. That said, KF has done a great job of changing its tone/personalities to cater to the next generation. I'm in my mid 30s and if you are too then its time to accept that we are no longer the KF or IGN target audience.
True, KF is for braindead young brainwashed smooth brained people. LSM is for the older and wiser and more educated.
Do their numbers bear out that they've successfully catered for the next generation? I'm always surprised at how few subs they have given how many hosts they need to support.
I went from KF daily to now once a month. Loved Greg and Colin together. I really do like nick and Tim too it’s just not the same
The direction of KF went in a direction i just couldn't vibe with as much. You could see it with how Colin was reluctant to most of it. Especially with the sus Rooster Teeth merge. It all became too "brand" focused. Still massive respect for what they've achieved.
I feel bad for Colin for he thought he had a friend in his corner. I've been there before. It sucks to think you have a friend. Do things for them and confide to them. All along the did not really like you. My heart goes out to him. Takes a man to own up to their part of a situation. Kinda Funny really needs to stop the best friends slogan they push. Looks like a bunch of fakers to me. Glad Colin is doing his own thing and is successful.
The timeline of these events is interesting. by then in 2017 Woke/political correctness is mainstream entertainment. Kinda Funny getting ride of Colin over a dad joke, a DAD JOKE.
A dad joke to you. A sexist misogynistic joke to many others. To me it was just a joke, but to the Kinda Funny founders and staff, it's something they had to deal with in a shit industry as it is.
The joke was never the issue, he CHOSE to leave and was never fucking fired. He then went everywhere to cry about it which is what Colin will forever be remembered for.

Tim was easily the worst member of the team. I found him to be incredibly annoying.
Tim bragged about being a schemer. It was obvious for a long time what kind of character he was.
Dude when Kotaku did a whole article on this, in there comments section I said I bet Tim was the main driving factor behind Collins departure. I was told by Greg (supposedly) in those comments nothing could be further from the truth. That it was someone else and a mutual decision. I knew that was bs.
Colin has been on the record thanking Tim for helping him set up Last Stand media because he had 0 production skills. Colin has also been on the record saying he was being outvoted 3 to 1 on basically every business decision and had started checking out (don’t believe me watch the BOTW review or how unprepared/shock jockey he was on the KF morning show). Why he left was that ‘the Ill timed joke’ was basically the final straw for that ‘already dying/dead’ friendship between Colin and Greg. They’re both better apart not just career wise but emotionally as well. It’s why neither is bitter at the other. It just ended…that’s life.
@@ShadowNeverDies1990 thanks for all of that but if you wanted to get rid of someone. Agreeing to set up some of the production on a new small show is peanuts compared to staying and probably getting a bonus to an already established show which had at the time a rocket ship level trajectory.
@@richhahl1340 Colin has been shown to be an extremely vindictive person at times. If it wasn’t an amicable break up (that was going to eventually happen anyways) I’m pretty sure he would not speak as well about Tim professionally as he does. Tim’s magnum opus (their new studio) was recently praised by Colin. Because it skews younger you’d be surprised how much of the KF current audience doesn’t even know about Colin…and some of the current hosts I cannot see being able to stand even being in the same room with him (Andy Cortez immediately comes to mind). I think this is why he ultimately was also banned from having a panel at PAX. He’s just too toxic of an entity for the mainstream industry. P.S. Honestly Colin has said and done way worst stuff since leaving KF that would’ve got him actually fired/forcibly let go so I don’t know why you think he ever could’ve stayed longterm at a company where he wasn’t the only boss anyhow?
I was a huge fan of Beyond with Greg and Colin and followed them through their journey with KF starting. I’m still a huge KF fan but it was sad when Colin left. I used to love how almost opposite Greg and Colin were. Greg brought a lot of levity to their content but Colin had SO much depth of knowledge on the industry from a perspective that even Greg didn’t have and that’s why I think together they were so good. I still watch KF a lot, and I still enjoy Colin’s channel too, but yeah, this doesn’t make Tim look good - and it does change how I feel about him. Just an awful way to treat somebody.
It also doesn’t make Colin look good either. He can hate Tim all he wants but when 💩 hit the fan Colin bailed like the coward that he is while everyone else stayed behind trying to save KF. When Greg Miller wants NOTHING to do with you that’s telling.
What’s also telling is Colin keeps bad mouthing Tim years later yet claims he takes the high road. KF has never bad mouth Colin ever and moved on. Colin should do the same.

Thank you both for this. I had been slowly drifting from KF content and stumbled onto LSM. I was hesitant just because of the things i still hear from the KF community about Colin. Yet the more LSM content I consume... I just get more bewildered and honestly a little annoyed at the KF crew and fans.

Colin leaving was a smart choice. While i dont watch every single peice of content he produces, the stuff i do watch or listen to is really well done. KF has kinda just fallen into pop culture stuff. Which is fine, but KF was more interesting and intriguing when colin would just drop some knowledge about history or politics out of nowhere. Colins content really reflects him and feels honest. Kf now just feels like theyre trying too hard sometimes.
Hearing about Tim really upsets me. He always seemed like a total tech bro loser with major insecurities about himself and desperate to come off as “one of the boys”. He’s a scum bag and a backstabber, and the way that he threw Colin to the wolves and hopped on an opportunity is gross. Shame on Greg for leaving his friend out to dry and congrats to Colin to cutting those toxic people out of his life and becoming wildly more successful than KindaFunny
I'm sure we still don't have all the context (and honestly it's not our business at the end of the day as fans/listeners), but it is relaxing to hear most of what we thought from the tidbits at the time and years that followed be confirmed.
Also, watching Craig and Colin here sitting in their non-ScrewAttack and non-KF/IGN offices is a testament to the fact that people grow, grow out of aspects of their lives they once held dear, outgrow their friends sometimes...all of which is OK and more often than not, for the better.
I know alot of people who stopped watching when Colin left, he was always the well spoken one of them all and said what he thought, loved the back and forth between him a Greg.
Tim on the other hand just seemed like this extra clown on the side that would say dumb stuff that was just there.
I stopped watching when he left. The Colin and Greg dynamic was the only reason to watch.

tim has always sucked. this is no surprise whatsoever. hes always made himself out to be a snake in the grass. and every story he tells is littered with embellished lies for the sake of false hype for the sake of “content.” he’s the ricegum of the podcaster scene.

I've always considered Tim as the outside guy, in the original 4. Scarpino feels like that old guy who just gets into everything while colin and greg are the dynamic duo they complimented each other.
I've been listening to them since beyond and i can safely say whatever the fuck Tim is talking about or his topics i just ignore it.

Everything is so superficial with KF these days. Like, yeah it has big TVs and smoke machines and all the rest. But the discussions are so surface-level, the 'in-jokes' come off as cringe and fake. Early Kinda Funny was the fucking best.
Craig is a banging interviewer. I like the SS podcast but these one on one interviews (not debates) are great.

I feel like Colin unfortunately never fit in with the rest of Kinda funny. I love Colin and enjoy his channel, the kinda funny crew just always had this extremely different air to Colin. Even now, everyone’s extremely similar.

It's funny Tim was the one saying that about Colin. I watched Podcast Beyond for Colin mainly. I liked Greg and the dynamic between the 2, but I liked Colin. The reason I followed them to KF and subbed on patreon and all that for the longest time was for Colin specifically. I didn't even know who Tim and Nick were. I really ended up liking Nick once I got to see him on screen a little but Tim just always seemed shallow. Like he was the immature kid in the group that you just tolerated, but could sometimes be funny every now and then.
So for him to act like Colin wasn't necessary or needed is ironic, when Tim was the least needed (on screen anyway) from my standpoint.
I remember when Colin left, I had been following everything they did up to that point and he was the main reason I was there, because he brought deep analytical thought to an often shallow space. Greg and Colin together was really something special, after he left I stopped watching for years, it's only been recently that I started watching some KF content again, so sad it had to go this way.
Its so sad that Colin and Greg wont work together ever again.
I hope that when they retire and get old they can work things out.
