  • National Guard members typically train one weekend a month and two weeks per year, while reservists have more varied training schedules based on their specific unit requirements.

Many states also have a state guard, like the Texas State Guard.

@@ne5409 The Texas State Guard has a good relationship with the Texas National Guard. We drilled in their Houston center and deployed with them on some missions. Thanks for serving with the Georgia State Guard.

If you want Combat Arms, Infantry, Armor, that's only available in the Guard. There is only 1 Reserve Infantry unit in Hawaii.

National Guards the better option, I looked into the Reserves and the Guard and going Guard seemed like a way more fulfilling option

@@Jaypc06 because of the duel service. You serve your State and the County. You actively are involved with your community as well as do your part for the country. The benefits come from the state as well as the government, with the reserves it just the government benefits from my understanding. I liked that in a situation the state is facing i could be activated to help. Plus the Massachusetts Guard was the first form of military service in the country, before it was a country

@@Dillon41689 okay cool thanks. I’m still deciding on going NG or reserves. I do also like the idea of helping my community especially here in Florida with all the hurricanes and all. Would be a great way to serve the State.

You forgot to mention the important top 6 reasons the Reserves suck ......
    1. You don't have to pass a fitness test after basic training. There's no reprocussions for failing
    2. You don't have to show up for drill weekend every month. There's no AWOL for drill weekend
    3. You can get a DUI as long as you're not on orders during your "2 week" training.
    4. If you fail a drug test, they'll call you out on it about 1.5 years later
    5. If the Army tells you that you're deploying, you can just refuse to sign the counseling
    6. You can basically do whatever you want and get away with it because you're not Active duty and on title 10 status.

Why even bother having the reserves??

    • @MudlangenTango
      @MudlangenTango Рік тому +2

      Good question, several points.
First, the DOD has to have the permission of the state governor in order to call up or deploy overseas N.G. troops.
The I.R.R. has a very large pool of soldiers to draw on to fill vacancies in time of need. ( There is a eight year commitment for all services)
The Guard has to recruit separately, many separating service members do not wish to go Guard to avoid being called up when it rains hard, or put down riots and disorder where they might have to use force against neighbors, coworkers and even friends or family.
