I've just started exploring photography for myself a little over a month ago, and I've been using UA-cam a lot as a learning resource. I just wanted to say, in a world full of big, brash 10 minute "HEY WHAT'S UP GUYS" videos that should have been 3 minutes long, I'm so glad to have found your channel full of honest, quiet, considered videos and beautiful images. Thanks, Sean.
The thing which distinguishes you from other photography tutorial channels is that you talk so honestly about yourself, about photography and also about life. You understand us and talk as if you were having a 1:1 conversation with us.
Never get overwhelmed by thinking you should upload more often. Take your time and keep creating beautiful videos. I'm craving for them, but I wait for your meaningful creations patiently. Thank you, Sean, you are my hero.
I agree, quite a few of my subscription channels just churn out videos daily and the quality goes down hill. Sean's are brilliant and show how much thought and time he puts into them.
After 4 years and this video still inspires me deeply and seriously makes take out my camera from my dusty bag which I'll do starting today and put together the same project you did here
There are so many photographers on this platform that are in love with themselves, they put out content without thought or care, just looking for more followers and more ways to increase their numbers. You are a true professional and teacher. I teach but you are always my inspiration- I adore your work and videos. Always worth the wait - thank you.
This guy is something else, I swear. There's a profound level of emotion and thought that goes behind making these videos. They almost come off as enlightening.
Thanks to this video I took my first portraits using lights today. It was of my 96 years old grandfather. These will probably be how we will remember his latter life. Thanks for the inspiration.
This is probably 10th time I've watched this video, that's how much I LOVE it!!! I might steal your idea Sean and do images of our grandmothers...They're both 85+ years old, this might be beautiful thing to have for generations to come... Thank you Sean, you've inspired me
If I had to delete all my youtube subscriptions but one, your channel would be the one channel remaining. Love your videos. They are a massive source of inspiration and I can very much relate to your situation of having to switch track after having devoted many years in a particular field. Thank you!
What I enjoyed about your channel is that its more than just about photography ... its about the trials and tribulations that is life. Inter weaving your own personal life story into your photography and your videos just makes your content that "much" more and to my mind, it rises above the thousands out there. I am thankful to have found your channel. Lastly your message to "pass it on" is poignant and beautifully put. The world needs more of this ... our Grieving Humanity needs healing. Thank you for a wonderful and well crafted video.
I just wanted to say that your visuals are fantastic, the portraits especially, however your audio is so interesting and your narrative draws you in to a point where I can start to visualise your situation without even seeing your video. Truly brilliant work Sean.
Thank you Sean... I don´t have the words or even the knowledge of the english language to express my gratitude about how you give it all you got... bless you!
Sean, this video is absolutely stunning. I lost my father when I was 3 as well, to a car accident. I still remember certain aspects of his apartment when he would have my brother and I certain days of the week. This affected my brother greatly who was 5 at the time and it still rules his life to this day. I have learned from my brothers mistakes and a few men in my life. A few years back we lost my stepdad as well who helped raise me for 9 years & it was at this time that I opened up to my uncle about how much I watched him growing up and what he means to me. These emotions are hard to explain when everything comes flooding back again. This video brought both pain and joy to my heart & tears to my eyes, and I want to say thank you for that.
This is such a rich video! there is so much to learn from it. not only in terms of Photography but also philosophy. Thanks a lot for making your channel more than just Photography. This kind of teaching is extremely rare and i am so glad to have come across your channel. Thanks alot
I stumbled upon your channel yesterday and I haven't stopped watching your videos since. Not only are you a talented creator but your words are truly thought-provoking. "Grieve humanity". I think I'm currently in same state you were back then, so those words in particular have touched me profoundly.
A perfect blend of the personal, the technical, the stories, wisdom, music, photography, video, dronography-- even the soundtrack was just right. 10 stars!
With each of your subjects you show three poses but IMHO it's the shots where they're looking straight into the camera lens that really brings out the person's personality. I picture them while they were talking with you and had their greatest impact.
There's so much I love about this video. But what I think I like most is how it covers the whole gamut of relevant topics. Tools, technique, workflow, inspirations, vision... it's all there. Which is not something I can say about just about 99.9% of other photography videos. Excellent work (on both the video and the portrait project).
Oh Sean. I am NEVER tired of listening you. You are an open heart, sensible, honest and true to yourself man and it's litting a fire inside me. You are triggering a urge to create compelling images but most importantly, you are telling me to live. I watched this whole video with deep attention since I've had the same kind of childhood. Dad abandonned us and two other men took a step in my life to guide me. Now I need to do my homework and create the same kind of story, but on top of it, I need to live this. Thanks Sean.
Each of those men that mentored you should be very proud of the man you have become. Even from the other side of the world your videos have given me a lot to think about to heal my own wounds and get me back on track and become a better role model for my sons, my stepson and even the young men that I work with everyday. The church can have some radical ideas about how we are supposed to live but only though the grace of God can we be truly 'accepted' and be an inspiration to others. You are an inspiration. Thank you.
This is so much more than photography. I felt emotional at times during this movie. Going through your channel is changing the way I think about photography , I have even gathered a portrait setup similar to yours . God bless you man
Thank you Sean, I've been repeatedly watching this episode over and over. Something on it clicked on me and started thinking about all of the people that have been game changers in my life, without me even asking for help. All of them have had huge impact, but it wasn't until now that I'm almost 40 and my first child on the way that I'm going to do something about it. You have inspired me to reconnect with those mentors and start a project of my own. We are not getting any younger and experiencing how fragile life could be, I want to capture them before its no longer possible. Thank you again.
I very rarely comment on videos but this is a powerful story and your willingness to share such a personal experience makes this even more amazing. Thanks so much for sharing this.
Great way to honour these men. The pictures are beautiful and the expressions speak volumes. Great rendition and good of you to give back something as precious as your time .
I came for the photography and learned so much more than that. Thank you Sean, for sharing this beautiful story and of course your knowledge, much appreciated
This video is like a cinematic movie with the music, drone shots, portraiture and stories of these men/mentors with the beauty of South Africa, well done.
What makes your videos stand out for me is that they go very deep, for me they carry not only an outstanding esthetic value, but also a deeper humanistic core that make the experience of watching them go beyond. Very deep and beautiful. Well done Sean!
Stating why this is an incredible video would go on for a long, long time. This episode is helpful in many ways, and far beyond photography, though very good there also. Thanks so much. I look forward to more of your outstanding work.
And just by watching this you made me feel a lot better. Same anger, my dad died when I was younger, I even now have problems adjusting and answering authority. Yes, I always play the victim, but grieve humanity suddenly makes sense. Thank you for sharing this.
This is one of a kind video. Like your sincere advice. I'm a retired Counsellor and photographer for more than 40 years and enjoyed every bit of it. Your simple way of working is a must to get a nice expression from the person. Awesome Black and White pictures. Congrats and keep up the good work. Greetings from Puerto Rico. Wish you the best!!
You don’t shy away from heavy contrast yet you retain just enough shadow detail to still show dimension to the face and separation from the black background. Very nice.
I'm so drawn by who you are and all the things you share with us. Huge fan. I use photography to heal the loss of my mother and being along in the world with no family. I mentor my friends because I want to direct my pain to love and to share what I can. Thank you Sean. ❤️😊
Grieve humanity... those two words fill such a void for me. Thank you for sharing this message. I thoroughly loved watching your project. You've challenged me on multiple levels. Cheers.
There are not so many books or films that I read/watch more than twice. Life is short. If I bump into one of them, always it is a master piece. I've never rewatched a piece of UA-cam video before. This is something different. I watch this again and again and gravitating towards what I want to be (or should be). This is a master piece. You are an inspiration. Thank you very much.
A massive Thank you, and re grieving humanity, I feel sorry for your father who missed realising the son he never knew, he would have been so proud of the man his son became.
Your portraits have brought me into tears, how wonderful can that be? They are just emotional, three images, one story. I really appreciate it, and I totally love your videos. They inspire. So glad to have discovered you here. 🙏
No matter what your job is there's always somebody there who is just starting out. The best teaching tip I ever got was; positive/negative /positive. In other words, praise and encourage - draw them in, constructive criticism - to correct an error, then encourage again - set some sort of goal. It's a buzz to mentor people who are looking for guidance and respond to it. All youtubers seem to be doing just that in their own way. This channel is one of the best. Keep it up Mr Tucker. You're good at it.
I have seen a few of your videos and I enjoy every minute of it and this time I could not help but make some observations. One of the main reasons why I keep watching your videos is that they contain life’s experiences and I’m particularly moved by the lesson you learned from your mentor on “grave humanity”. I’m 71 years old and still learning. Thank you and more power.
What a captivating watch, you have a very beautiful way of taking the viewer on a journey. I love the idea of the three images too, very nice. Happy Christmas.
To me, this episode put up the crown on Sean's UA-cam series so far. The content, the visuals and the message all were absolutely spot on. Very inspiring, thank you.
Stunning, It is very inspiring, I really appreciate your honesty, transparency and depth of your reflexions. You have gave a lot of thing to think in of. Regarding your technical skills in photography you are indeed a mentor for me.
WOW... great video, great story, great message, great photographs, great men...I too had my dad just up and leave when I was a tad younger than you. There were several mentors who stepped up to the plate over the years for me to fill the gap for me as well. I feel inspired to do something similar while I can. You might not have the quantity part of UA-cam, but you most certainly have the Quality part down pat!!!
Seriously opening the locker Sean. What an amazing video. My father is my hero, brought up my brother & I on his own from the ages of 3 & 4 yrs. One of the first in the UK to gain full custody of children which was unheard of back in the 1980's. Keep uploading this great content. Last but not least, thanks.
In my humble opinion, this is your best video (that I've seen so far). Truly inspirational and moving. Fantastic work and something to strive for. Well done.
When he said "I think you need to learn to grieve humanity" I got goosebumps. Sean your videos are amazing, these life lessons are really helpful and some epic portrait photography loved it keep up the good work.
Your videos inspire me to shoot more and think deeper. I want to thank you for your mentorship to explain what really what drives you rather than simple step by step tutorials that show the process rather than the reasoning behind them. It's rare to find that in the age of commercialism.
Brother, your videos are truly next level shit...I absolutely love them. Informative, engaging, inspirational, motivational, philosophical, great production value, they just keep getting better. I really appreciate you.
I love the way you speak about photography but making it human, photography is more than images is about feelings, stories and you are able to make us feel that, thank you
I just came across this video and I have to say thank you for all the work that you do. Its very inspiring not only for photography but life in general. I am a school bus driver and I see all these troubled kids that I try to help by giving them a safe ride home. I also give them a place to feel like a human not a number. This video just let me know that what I am doing is the right thing. Its very rewarding when you see a student years after they are off your bus happy to see you even if its just for a moment. You know at that point you have made a difference in someones life. Thank you again for lifting my spirits as school is about to start.

Right? And the thought he puts into them is one of the things that helped me to overcome a hard time in my life. His content is inspiring.
I second this
Agreed!
I agree too

The black and white images at the end actually brought tears to my eyes. Beautiful portraits.
I was moved by your story and your photography. Thank you.
same here!
This guy is something else, I swear. There's a profound level of emotion and thought that goes behind making these videos. They almost come off as enlightening.
Thanks Emmanuel:)
Takes great courage to reveal what you stated.
Thanks to this video I took my first portraits using lights today. It was of my 96 years old grandfather. These will probably be how we will remember his latter life.

"learn to grieve humanity"....love it.

Well said. This is a rarity.
I have just wacth 5 minutes and already can see that you are a talented film director, photographer and journalist.
I stumbled upon your channel yesterday and I haven't stopped watching your videos since. Not only are you a talented creator but your words are truly thought-provoking. "Grieve humanity". I think I'm currently in same state you were back then, so those words in particular have touched me profoundly.
I swear you need your own National Geographic/Dicovery Channel programme. Absolutely amazing
Very good Sean. Probably my fav of your recent videos. Stunning b&w images as always.
I think I watch more for the counselling than photography. This guy is another level, thank you Sean, brilliant as always...

As a therapist and portrait photographer this really hits the mark - bravo for your willingness to share
I very rarely comment on videos but this is a powerful story and your willingness to share such a personal experience makes this even more amazing. Thanks so much for sharing this.
Literally cried at the end. Beautiful work. This is not just a video, it’s a Masterclass. Thanks 🙏🏼

I think the majority of us here resonate with you Sean. What a blessing you are. God bless you!

Black and White pictures. Congrats and keep up the good work. Greetings from Puerto Rico. Wish you the best!!
Man, you are one of my most favorite philosophers. I am learning more philosophy here than any other philosophy books.
Wow. Tears in my eyes. Great idea and beautiful portaits. Love it. Thanks so much for sharing your stories and Knowledge..
You don’t shy away from heavy contrast yet you retain just enough shadow detail to still show dimension to the face and separation from the black background. Very nice.
Your content is captivating and phenomenal. I love how raw and honest it is. Keep up the great work!

Big props when my fav photographers support each other
Photography is a way of life & you truly embody that ...... thank you !
Brilliant, as always. Have a great Christmas and see you in the New Year!
Grieve humanity... those two words fill such a void for me. Thank you for sharing this message. I thoroughly loved watching your project. You've challenged me on multiple levels. Cheers.
I only have one word for this video: Beautiful.
There is an honesty and genuineness about you that is so refreshing to see on UA-cam
That’s kind. Thank you.
Inspirational and refreshing to see and hear real honesty. Thanks for sharing

Another phenomenal video Sean; you're the most inspiring photographer I've come across, so thank you for the labor you put into these.
A massive Thank you, and re grieving humanity, I feel sorry for your father who missed realising the son he never knew, he would have been so proud of the man his son became.
Awesome video Sean. Keep making more. You inspire the heck out of me.
I am moved every time a watch this. Great instructions and life lessons. Thank you.
again, another amazing and inspirational video. absolutely captivated from Start to finish. was gutted when it was over.
Your portraits have brought me into tears, how wonderful can that be? They are just emotional, three images, one story. I really appreciate it, and I totally love your videos. They inspire. So glad to have discovered you here. 🙏
Thanks my friend
Great video! Love how much thought you put into everything
No matter what your job is there's always somebody there who is just starting out. The best teaching tip I ever got was; positive/negative /positive. That was an utterly inspiring and interesting journey. Bravo, Sean!
Sorry I meant “grieve humanity”.
Thanks:) it’s a good lesson isn’t it? I wish I could claim it as my own. I’m happy to pass on wisdom from older and wiser people than me though:)
Love your videos, Sean........especially this one.....speaks volumes. And the photos are superb!!!
These goes beyond "photography". Thank you for sharing your personal life stories & insights. you are a mentor yourself now.
Thanks Sean for sharing so much of yourself with us, while also providing very practical photography help. :-)
You don't imagine how many times I've rewind the end of this beautiful video.. THE BW SERIES IS HEAVENLY
Qualty viewing as always Sean. I like the way you look at the deeper side of life and explain it in your own unique way.
This is far more profound than a flash / portrait video. Thank you for sharing.
Stunning, It is very inspiring, I really appreciate your honesty, transparency and depth of your reflexions. You have gave a lot of thing to think in of. Regarding your technical skills in photography you are indeed a mentor for me.
The way you choose to honor these men is beautiful and inspiring! Thank you for this!
WOW... great video, great story, great message, great photographs, great men...I too had my dad just up and leave when I was a tad younger than you. There were several mentors who stepped up to the plate over the years for me to fill the gap for me as well. I feel inspired to do something similar while I can. You might not have the quantity part of UA-cam, but you most certainly have the Quality part down pat!!!
Beautiful to see how you give meaning to photo and share your intimate feelings.
Brilliant video - great content, wisdom and extremely well put together! Grieve humanity...genius! Cheers - keep up the great work you're doing!
Well done.
Agree! Agree!
When he said "I think you need to learn to grieve humanity" I got goosebumps. Sean your videos are amazing, these life lessons are really helpful and some epic portrait photography loved it keep up the good work.
it's been a long time I didn't watch a you-tube video affects me like that
just go ahead Sean .. you are amazing
You really should have your own show on prime time TV. Such powerful moving videos. Beautiful.
This is so honest and inspiring. Thank you Sean.
You have a wonderful way of communicating. Your words and tone are soft, and caring but direct and to the point. Very impressed.
Inspiring has from now on, for me, a synomyn: Sean Tucker.
Yeah right? This channel really Sean Tuckers me :P No but really, this channel is actually one of the most inspiring out there :D
I love the way you speak about photography but making it human, photography is more than images is about feelings, stories and you are able to make us feel that, thank you
A truly inspiring video mate! wow ...thank you!
Extremely moving. Your willingness to put your self out there is commendable and freeing.
One of your best mate, thoroughly insightful as always!
James Popsys absolutely agree. Best yet..
Thanks for sharing that Chris. That's lovely.
another great video sean, i always look forward to them, very thoughtful.
This is up there as one of the best videos on youtube.
