While I absolutely respect his sentiment of just being introduced as Richard Turner I, from the bottom of my heart, mean the world of him when I say this blind old man could take you for everything your worth with a single deck of cards.... not to mention he could probably take you in a fight if you tried to take it back XD What an absolute fucking legend.
I cannot wait to see this movie. I have had the privilege of being the "spectator on the left" for one of Richard Turner's close-up shows. He is truly amazing!
I watched this movie over the weekend. It's one of the best documentaries I have ever seen. Very inspiring story and well made movie. What the previews don't show, but what is also a treat is the profile of Richard's sister, who is also blind. Wonderful movie.
Anyone who said they want to see this film, DO SO! It is as awesome as his magic. The guy went through a hell of a lot in his life besides just his blindness and it is a downright emotional rollercoaster of a movie and also probably very inspirational to people that have disabilities. (it sure was for THIS disabled person posting this comment)
His dedication is truly inspirational to me. His comment about procrastination and laziness convicted me greatly, I needed to hear it! He reminded me that we can master ANYTHING, but only if we’re willing to invest great amounts of time, discipline and perseverance. ~God Bless!
To put his amazing talent into perspective: Before Mr. Turner came along, the things he does with cards were thought to be impossible. The person who taught him would purposely give him exercises he thought were impossible and Richard would do them. He is the greatest there is and will ever be.
I know this is a couple of years old but I would like to elevate it up to the next level and not bring it down to the ground, I would say I pressed some buttons but honestly im sometimes cableble of also lifting some spirits up with more puns, I will make you laugh on the floor and maybe just maybe be able to take it to the top floor
Dudes fingertips are so sensitive he can know the cards by feeling the micro indents left by the ink/printer from the card manufacturing co. Superhuman if you ask me.
@@marlinlenchanteur4260 Yeah, it's all about the ability to process and interpret what you feel, which of course happens in the brain. When Richard lost his vision, the neural pathways previously used for his sight essentially got hijacked by his sense of touch. I'm guessing he started to process what he felt much like how we process what we see, allowing him to truly see with his fingers.
Mr. Avocado Man~What an excellent observation you have made! His dedication is truly inspirational to me. His comment about procrastination and laziness convicted me greatly, I needed to hear it! He reminded me that we can master ANYTHING, but only if we’re willing to invest great amounts of time, discipline and perseverance. ~God Bless!
He said he has practiced an average of 20 hours a day since he started to train decades ago. It is a skill and the techniques he trained with were made up by his teacher who thought they were impossible and was just giving him wild ideas to keep him occupied because he was blind.
Just finished watching this movie on Netflix! I too have a disability, and I understand about not wanting people to see your accomplishments through the lens of pity. But no one, whether sighted, or unsighted, can beat you at cards. I have watched many other Card Mechanics on Penn and Teller, and other magic shows, but they don't even come close to your ability. So be proud of what you have accomplished, because your work stands by itself ☺
I cannot wait to see this!! I have played No-Limit Hold ‘em Cash games for a living for the past 7 years, and have played cards my entire life. I know a handful of awesome card tricks, no sleight of hand or anything like that, just leaving people like “wtf”. That said, a card “mechanic” is like a ninja using nunchucks with a deck of cards. This documentary looks AWESOME, I can’t wait to see it! It looks SO goddamn inspiring just by the preview!
I watched this movie and it made me filled with so much emotion. He is 100% dedicated to this craft. I love his view that his blindness doesnt define his talent
This guy is outstanding! Even if he wasn't blind! That just adds to his outstandingist. Yeah I know! I didn't think "outstendingist" was a word either. But it came up without the little line under it. So it's real to me. Again this guy is outstanding!

If he is a fictional main character of a novel, a blind master magician with a black belt in karate, readers will be shitting all over the story for having a Mary Sue protagonist.
“Cuz I don’t consider myself disabled.” But see, wouldn’t he still need certain privileges because he can’t see? Like in school, you would be able to have Braille, or you could do things orally. And he would need to be near someone to guide him places sometimes, so I’m just wondering if he’s aware that fact is, he Is disabled. He can do anything he sets his mind to, but for certain things, he just wouldn’t be able to live like a sighted person. I saw him in Fool Us and he’s so cool. He makes me want to learn how to be a card mechanic. Does he have tutorials?
I think he's talking figuratively. It sounds like he's implying that he doesn't feel crippled by his lack of eyesight. There's zero chance that he doesn't understand certain limitations he's forced into, especially knowing that he could still see well into his life.

Dude's basically Daredevil
and Gambit
even daredevil can do only the half of what Richard Turner can do. xD
Procrastination and laziness are greater disabilities than blindness.
They're absolutely not because you can fix those. They're just character flaws that you get used to.
@@thorham1346 its a quote from richard turner
@@johanng.6154 It's still not true. They're just fixable character flaws, nothing more.
@@thorham1346 but are people able to fix laziness and procrasination

The "magic" behind the cards is even more amazing. Motivating & inspiring others with your own will is the best magic transfer ever.
