    Ted is clearly a very high caliber of mechanical engineering nerd. His lack of polish as a presenter is actually a good thing, because we can see that he loves to solve engineering problems, and cares deeply about his product rather than his image on video. This inspires my trust in his products far more than a slicker, more "professional" looking video would. You can see the care, integrity, and attention to detail.

      ??? This is clearly designed by somebody who does not shoot. A pivoting handle is the most gimmicky shit ever, and it causes problems with one of the most popular triggers. Instead of designing an action to work for the shooter's needs, this is an action where you have to compromise for the action.
      Not only that, but one look at the knobs and you can tell they have no idea what they are doing. Nobody manipulates the knobs of a bolt gun like that. There is a reason people go with the round knobs or the tapered cylindrical. This poorly designed knob will only get in the way.
      Only coup de grace here will be towards the company itself.

      @@AmericanRifleCompany hey I'm considering the Coup De Grâce in .588" for 37XC build. would the action be long enough for that cartridge. I prefer the Coup De Grâce because of the pivoting ability, of course. I'm really hoping I can use this action. the 37xc has .580” bolt head & Total case overall length is 3.087” (.415” longer than a 338 Lapua and slightly longer than a Cheytac case).thanks

    I use Triggertech diamond triggers for my rifles and I'm trying to understand how the pivoting handle could damage the trigger.... Is it because, when you run the bolt forward, the cocking piece will meet the top sear of the trigger first, instead of the fixed handle meeting the extracting cam? Hope I'm clear!
    In that case, we should run the bolt smoothly or buy the fixed handle!

    Are you able to comment on long and short action compatibility? I'm building a rifle around an action that can handle .308 Win and 300 Win Mag with the purchase of a second bolt (and thus, different sized bolt face). Based on the chart on the ARC website, it appears my options would be a short action with 300 WSM as a substitution for 300 Win Mag OR a long action, substituting, say, 30-06 for .308.
    If possible, please let me know if I have this straight or need to email the ARC team for clarification. Much appreciated.
    BTW, great video, excellent overview of the value ARC is offering.

    • @AmericanRifleCompany
      @AmericanRifleCompany  Місяць тому

      Sounds like you have this straight. That said, please consider if you will really switch from one caliber to another. Getting a rifle set up and shooting well only to disassemble and reassemble as something else is rather annoying. For what's its worth, pick one cartridge, shoot it often, and get good at it. Or you can just build a second rifle. Enjoy...

    Is there any reason yall didn’t flute the entire bolt? I was under the impression that a fluted bolt was smoother and lighter, but it seems yall only done it for aesthetics. Just curious

    • @AmericanRifleCompany
      @AmericanRifleCompany  9 місяців тому +1

      Fluting the bolt does reduce weight which reduces the forces resulting from the impact of the bolt assembly against the bolt stop. Generally, fluting does not make the bolt cycle smoother because edges of the flutes can interact with the edges of the receiver and this interaction can be felt by the shooter. Because of that, we limited the flutes to areas that would not adversely interact with the receiver. We also fluted the bolt because aesthetics matter to many shooters, although they don't matter to me. I'm more of a form follows function kinda guy but I design the actions for my customers, not for me. All that said, we do offer a non-fluted option for those who prefer that.
      Thanks for the interest.

    I really want to build a bolt action rifle starting with this receiver. However, I need a barrel with a conical breach for 7mm-08 if I understand correctly. Finding a prefit barrel with the conical breach is a show stopper at this point. (Yes, a great gunsmith could cut the breach correctly on a lathe but that is neither feasible nor interesting to me.)
    Why the CDG? Controlled round feed, manual ejection, shorter bolt throw, more compact magazines, and the leveraged extraction.

    I'm sure this is a nice action. What really pisses me off is the fact that ARC has pretty much dropped ALL support for the other actions. I have 2 Nucleus Gen 2s, one less than a year old, and need new bolt heads for different cartridges. Can't get any. This forces me to look elsewhere for an action the company I choose to go with will actually support. I could buy the Coup De Grace, especially if I plan to find a different action to replace these nucleus gen 2s. However, I will not be forced to buy the Coup De Grace because ARC decided to forget about the other actions in it's lineup. It would be my luck ARC will drop support for the Coup De Grace in less than a year also and then I'm really screwed. Never again ARC, never again. We're making it available but with the following stipulation.
      Please be advised that cartridges with 14.93mm (.588 in) diameter case heads, i.e. 338 Lapua Mag, will not be engaged by the extractor as they are released by the magazine feed lips. Instead, they will feed in a manner like that exhibited by push feed actions, especially if used with the fixed bolt handle.
      We strongly recommend choosing the pivoting handle for use with the 588 bolt head for two reasons. First, large cartridges are more likely to get stuck in the chamber than small cartridges. And secondly, the cartridges will be extractable without the need to rotate the bolt closed.
      At this time, we are not sure if the 588 bolt head and extractor can be designed to function exactly like the smaller variants. We will continue to explore this.

I know, Mauser 98 had firing pin safety and million were produced. But Mauser 98 also had 4-5 mm of sear engagement and a heavy trigger spring, neither of which are present in modern triggers.

      @@johnsanford3043 I appreciate the sentiment but the thread callout that you're indicating is not correct. While it is true that measuring the OD of a 1.0625-20 UN 2A thread may result in a value of 1.055" which is within the OD tolerance for the 2A class, specifying the small shank thread at 1.055"x20p is incomplete as it specifies neither thread form nor tolerance. If one were to assume a Unified 60° thread form and a class 2A tolerance, the resulting thread would have an undersized pitch diameter as the 1.055" may be assumed to apply to a nominal OD and not the actual OD. Standards are important so that correct information is communicated.
      The correct callout of the Savage small shank is 1.0625-20 UN 2A for the male thread and 1.0625-20 UN 2B for the female thread. I think it's okay to apply the tighter 3A and 3B tolerances if one is so inclined but the class 2 tolerance is more than adequate.
