I think there is also another side to this. As someone who got hospitalized after having an intense experience at a meditation retreat, I would argue it's harmful to also minimize what the meditation is and can do. Some of the things that are "normal" were so surprising that they really shook me to the core. Another part of the equation I think was my trauma and the way traumatized mind reads into things.
However if we insist on telling everyone that it's "just sitting", we might have people thinking they are having a mental break and that this is not normal. We need to give people a little heads up that alternative states of consciousness are a real thing, experienced by many, and that they are going to be fine.

thank you for mentioning this! One thing that really helped me is learning Tai chi, which is a moving form of meditation. it takes the attention away from the thinking mind and into the body. people should be aware of different styles and pick one that is best suited for them and their brain.

I think body based meditations are the way to go for people who have a hard time sitting with their mind (or in case it is unsafe to do so)

I'm thinking I will make a video on the many different forms of meditation and how to choose one.

@@NicosMatrix thank you for the tip! Yes I think I should give tai chi a try. I tried qi gong and while it was more physical, it also freaked me out a bit. Maybe also different ways to meditate might be good for different moments in life!

@@funnybunnygirl1 I still do some chi gong every now and then, but I prefer flow and continuity of tai chi. It is very grounding and tends to be more gentle that chi gong. Helps tremendously with balance too (physically and energetically). There are also different styles of tai chi, so make sure you do a little research and pick the style you resonate with the most :)
