I have a 28 RPU with a B banger, mild cam weber carburetor makes Solid 60hp and without Fender hood and all the heavy stuff removed from the car I would call it pretty snappy goes easy 70...much fun
I like the Weber, makes it peppy and you can easy get Main jets for it. I had to go up in size. For me it works perfect. Iquite like the Look oft it too. Although a burns intake with two strombergs would be more traditional looking.
Good Info Matt ---- We'll see what's up for #2 ----- You are right ---- a good couple of days here ----- finish up those last few jobs outside ---- did you see the news ----- Skydivers jumping 6,000 feet up ---- barefoot and coming to land on a waterslide with a large Unicorn on it ---- legs spread to catch it around its neck ------ Good luck ------- At 6,000 feet up better keep your eye on that waterslide -------- Have a Good Weekend ------ Rodney
Appreciate it! There are a couple spots I would have liked to fix, but a lot of times I'm up against the clock to get it posted in time. I am really pleased with my progress, but know I can do better! Thanks for watching!
It's coming! We've got a whole 10 part series planned out discussing the various ways to go about it all. Next installment is basic engine hop up. Thanks for watching!
Every episode is better than the last! You definitely seem to be getting comfortable in front of the camera. Really looking forward to this series. Still hoping to find me one of those dual updraft manifolds! Thinking a re-gear of the rear end might be a good fit with that (let me know if I'm wrong). Keep up the great work. Can't wait for the next video. P.S. any thoughts on having some t-shirts made? I know I wouldn't be the only one to jump at that.
Working on it! Hopefully before Christmas! We've got a great artist working on that now. Then printing. Were gonna try and cover everything that it takes to build one of these cars. Including transmissions, rear gears, tire sizes and even overdrive. I'll keep an eye out for another updraft intake. They come around every now and then, I've had 4 or 5 over the years. Someone always wanted them worse. Lol
Thanks Matt , Great episode , perfect timing as I am working on a '28 roadster PU right now and have a lot to learn. Can't wait for EP2 ! Jim from Ont. Canada
I really like your channel. When I was little just about everybody in my family owned model A's. My dad had one when we lived on 87th on the hill above Aurora. One day he parked the car on the grass in the front yard. I was a curious toddler and after he went in the house I climbed onto the seat and played with the steering wheel. Unfortunately I also played with the emergency brake handle. As my parents watched in horror from the dining room window the car started rolling across the lawn downhill towards Aurora Ave a block below. As the car coasted past the oak tree in our yard the passenger fender made contact with the tree and stopped. I always tell people I drove my first model A when I was 5.
Good pic of the spear fan. I had one on a 57 Ford, wrecked inner fender, hood and my underwear at 600 rpm idle. I checked that fan for cracks before paint, they crack at the bolts. No more old fixed blades for me.
Hi Matt, what advice would you give to a new into the period correct hot rods when it comes to purchasing their first Model A to turn it into a hot rod? Are there areas of rust or engine cracks or whatever that you say just keep looking and you’ll find the one. I have zero automotive experience but very interested in turning this into my new passion. Your advice would be greatly appreciated because my plan is to follow your videos and put something together for myself. I fell into this world by accident; 11 years ago I was out surfing up by Asbury Park NJ and they were setting up this beach race while I was out surfing. Now 11 years later I’ve attended the TROG every year. Thanks David
Well. Definitely buy the nicest car you can afford. Model As are cheap and plentiful but the prices vary greatly. Educate yourself on their value locally so you are prepared. If you hunt and are ready to buy, you'll find a really good deal on a solid project eventually. Probably saving thousands. You have to be diligant. But they're common enough this isnt hard. It's really common for them to rust in the lower body parts and subrails. I like to find what were nice cars that were amateur restored in the 70s and 80s. That aren't necessarily perfect but show well and aren't rot boxes. Then just proceed from there.
I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I will continue my search and watching your videos to further gain info on building a hot rod. Your videos are excellent btw, keep up the great work. @@Seattle_Speed_Shop
Good video, really helpful to me since I don't know much of anything about the Ford bangers, looking forward to the next one. Question: do the Model A & B engines share any parts or design with the 4 cylinder Ford tractor engines?
From what I know they don't. While of similar design, they share no parts. I think. I don't quote me, they(tractors such as the 8-9n ) share internal parts with the v8 fords of the same era. But I wouldn't quote me on that. Lol.
Great job, I just subsribed and I am looking forward to your next post. I was wondering with the way Henry Ford repurposed things is the engine used on the 8n tractors based on the Model A engines? Would they be a good choice for a banger build?
From what I know, they use a weird mix of flathead v8 parts internally . They're a different engine than the A. I don't think there are a lot of performance parts for the tractor. (Cam, head, intakes)
There is a cast aluminum fan that appears stock and is the best option. I run 32+ 4 blade fans. I've never had an issue. But I hear that can break too.
Great idea for a series. I’m looking forward to the next installment.
Thanks for watching!
I really like that philosophy! It’s funner to drive a slow car fast than to drive a fast car slow!
When I say that I drove a stock engined car for 5 years as fast as it would go, everywhere I went. I mean it.
I have a 28 RPU with a B banger, mild cam weber carburetor makes Solid 60hp and without Fender hood and all the heavy stuff removed from the car I would call it pretty snappy goes easy 70...much fun
Sounds awesome! How do you like the weber?

I just got back from Hershey, my 2nd time. 1,3000 miles round trip for me.... I'll subscribe
That's a trip, but probably worth it! Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching!
Nice job on the editing of the sections with a pretty smooth sequencing. Keep growing.

Definitely want more of this. I just got my coupe running on the road and I’m going to start hopping it up. Thank you so much

Just found this channel, love it. I'd love to build on of these to put in a T sedan.
Good info, Thanks😊

Sounds like you got lucky there! That's a decent hill on 87th too!
Good pic of the spear fan. I had one on a 57 Ford, wrecked inner fender, hood and my underwear at 600 rpm idle. I checked that fan for cracks before paint, they crack at the bolts. No more old fixed blades for me.
Yeah. Kinda scary! Imagine if it happened while working on it! Could be terrible!
Love the video. I’m really hoping to put together a banger powered car in the next few years.
They're tons of fun! Thanks for watching!
That cam in the box looks rowdy.... Nice job bro...
I'll have to double check but I'm pretty sure that is actually a stock cam.
@@Seattle_Speed_Shop Here I was hoping for some loping banger goodness!
Hey Matt, that was a great tutorial. I am going to share it with my "stocker" friends. I's sure they can find it informative.
Thank you!

Looking forward to this series, good job, are the new reproduction stock fans safe to use?? Cheers from Australia.

Is $200 a good price on a 1928 1931 Ford Model A Banger Motor Transmission TROG
For a runner? Thats basically core price. So I'd say so.
