Do we need to repaint the whole wall or just that area. If ,just that area isn't it look different than rest of the wall?
4 years later, I find myself in a very similar situation because I used 2 sided tape to put up posters on my wall. Not a good idea, so this really helped me calm my nerves about fixing the wall before I move out. Thanks!
Did it work?
@@frillinho yeah it worked. I had a lot of sanding to do, but the technique itself was on point. Tge end result was also something I was pretty happy with.
I used heavy duty command hooks to put curtains up. My dog jumped on them which ripped them from the wall. Now I have two big areas where the paint came off. I was stressing big time about paying a lot for repairs. I feel a bit better. I’m hoping this works.

This video has been an absolute life-saver! I was a complete DIY novice and I had no clue how I might repair damaged paintwork in my place. This simple to understand guide has helped me make my place look vaguely decent again. I had no idea I had such skills! Heartfelt thanks.
Derek, that's awesome. So chuffed you found my vid useful and that you took the time to let me know. I set up this channel back in 2014 to get the word out that anyone can do DIY. It's wonderful to hear you've discovered new skills you didn't think you had!!
This exact repair needs to be done in my house, but I wasn't sure about the filling/sanding steps. Now I am. Thanks for the useful information.
Did it work?
Who else accidentally peel off the wall?
Me
Yep wall bubbled peel far to much 😁
Guilty
Yes, when I dry my washing on the radiator some of the paint comes off.
Me, I regret sticking RGB strips to my wall!
Is Gordon Ramsey your long lost brother😂. Always enjoy your vids.
would be more interesting with a few more fs and jeffs
Lol😀. He does look like his twin.
Is Stevie Wonder yours?

Nice work and great result. This sort of job is ok when the surrounding paintwork is fresh and you know the colour. I don't know how it's possible in a property where the paintwork in the surrounding area is tired (other than paint the whole wall, possibly the whole room). Also, as a Handyman working in rental properties, multiple periods of waiting on a small job like this is a no-go (as there's no way landlords want to pay for multiple visits). Sometimes you have to fill so lightly with a ready mixed filler, that you can get away with no sanding AND very carefully paint over the top of it 15 minutes later with an industry standard magnolia (and hope that it matches well enough!). The result isn't like yours of course but with a bit of practice it can be done to an acceptable level.
With your top class instructions and £3 for the filler, pva adhesive & continental filler knife set from a local poundland. One is extremely happy with the result, even without the sanding, repainting to do. White matt painted ceiling so not far off colourwise.
Plantpot Ah, that's fantastic news - so glad it worked - you obviously executed it perfectly - and thanks for taking the time to let me know!
Good video thank you..I normally give 'filled & sanded' areas a quick wipe with a damp rag prior to repainting so any dust doesn't affect adhesion.
Another easy to follow piece of work. You're a star man!
Graham J Thanks Graham. Much appreciated!!
Nice one this vid was a big help, I'm a single girl who does all her own d.i.y and home inprovements, good you tube vid tutorials have saved me a fortune over the years 😋
Thanks for the comment Karen! Really glad you found it useful, and of course that you've found my channel! This stuff - either the British Gypsum Easi-Fill or Tout-Pret is an absolute game changer when you've got wall repairs.
Omg how have I lived as an adult home owner without this guy. THE most useful
Video I've ever watched. Thank you
Thanks, I appreciate that. 🙂
To stop possible flashing of the filler when painted... ie when you can still see the difference in colour underneath, you can mix some of the paint in with the powder filler! Tints the filler to more of the topcoat colour, less coats of paint to cover it 😜. Marc
That is an awesome tip. I'll remember that next time!!
still get flashing in sheen level though minimum 2 coats required.
Indeed.
Marc Gray Are you a painter and decorator?
Charlie DIYte why do bubble forms when I paint? Can you help?
Great video. My paint bubbled up in a bedroom above a radiator. I scraped it off and it revealed the plaster. I then reapplied the paint and it adhered to the plaster. I have ready mixed pollyfilla in a tub so will use that. But need to get PVA bond. I have 120 grade sandpaper which I know is too course. But I spotted uneven steps on that area and other parts of the room. Walls directly exposed to the outside.
Thx for the explanation!
do I needa repaint the whole wall? if not wont the color be different?
when I sand it wont it peel off the paint around the damaged area?
thx in advance
Hi Charlie, can i use zinsser BIN primer instead of mist coating the areas that have been filled in?
Will the BIN primer flash through when i apply a coat of paint?
Thanks a lot
Thanks for the video, it's needed to paint the whole wall or just the repaired section?
From reading another comment, it seems he didn't paint the whole wall only the repaired section. But he agreed with the commenter that you probably should paint the whole wall otherwise you might getting flashing.
Hi Charlie I really enjoy your videos, they are comprehensive and easy to follow. I would like to know the quickest and easiest method to remove chipping paint off the wall. The paint has been has applied directly onto the wall. Thanks
Fantastic video, such a help! I like that continental filler knife. I’m sending off for one right now!
Thanks Ken. Yes the filler knife is a game changer. You can get them in small sets with 4 different sizes.
Great vid Charlie, nice tips with the most coat! Thanks.
Thanks Sandeep 👍
This is super helpful. I put painters tape on my newly painted wall, I'd followed all the right instructions - sanded, cleaned, primed, painted with two coats, used the blue tape - still when I peeled off the tape (ceiling to floor in the room corner), a lot of the paint lifted. There don't seem to be any other decent videos showing you how to fix damage from painters tape, just a whole lot of videos telling you how to pull the tape off sucessfully (which didn't work).
Hi Shannon, yes, I've learnt the painful way never to put painters tape on newly painted wall. You just have to cut in the next wall by hand. It doesn't matter how well you mist coat the bare plaster before painting, you'll always take off the paint, particularly if there's a bit of damp in the walls.
@@CharlieDIYte When I say newly painted, it was nearly a week ago! It was well dry.
Yes but I did the same thing in my son's room that I had personally mist coated a year or two previously, and took a load of the ceiling paint off when I taped it so I could paint up to it on the wall. Never again.
Man, your bathroom is a work of art. Got any pics? Hell, wanna design mine? Can’t think of what I want doing!
Thanks mate - appreciate that! I'm a little short on time right now what with this and the day job to be able to help with the design, but happy to send you some photos. Email me at charliediyte@gmail.com.
Hi, after I repair, can I use damp seal (ronseal one coat damo seal) then paint over it? Thank you
Any tips on a recent job in my house I had done, i put in an island and painted around it only to learn I needed to move the island. Now I have a big tear where the island was, should I do what you did but on a bigger scale... Thanks subbed
I have a hair line crack in fresh paint (very annoying) would I use this same technique to tackle that?
Thanks for your video. Just had this happen to me and learnt a couple more things I didn't know. Cut with razer blade and pva mix. Cheers.
Hi Charlie, great video as always. Any recommendations for filler for filling areas that might be susceptible to movement, such as under the stairs where the staircase joins the wall, and where bits of plaster have come away behind the screws that hold the plaster in place. Could something like low modulus silicone be used, and if so how well can you paint over it? Thanks
www.screwfix.com/p/no-nonsense-anti-crack-acrylic-white-310ml/39705
thank you. last thing. would i need to prime the walls with anything as i want to paint my walls grey and what would i prime it with after applying pva ? appreciate your time
adwaan riviera What I meant was you PVA the wall before plastering. You then apply a mist cost to the new plaster before painting. A mist cost is basically a watered down coat of emulsion paint - anywhere between 30% and 50% paint to water. I wouldn't apply PVA before painting.
Thanks for this. Our new house has issues like this everywhere and I really want to make sure I fill them properly
You'll find this technique works really well. Get yourself a box of this bit.ly/2T3KKnQ to do the filling. It comes in 1kg sachets and so you don't waste the whole bag when you open it.
Hi Charlie, great vids! have you tried knocking up filler on the Filler Tray?
Hey Charlie
Great video and well explained.
Any chance you could do one on screw pop repairs? We had our house done about 6 months ago and these things have appeared all over the place!!
For that you want to get yourself a box of Easi-Fill - this is ideal www.toolstation.com/gyproc-easifill-filler-5-x-1kg/p58172 as it comes in small bags so you're not opening the whole thing for a small repair. I show you how to use it in this video ua-cam.com/video/6Omsv5-NN9k/v-deo.html and you should get some continental filler knives to apply it. Leave it very slightly proud of the surface, lightly sand it back when set, with a 180 grit sand paper and when painted the repair will be invisible 👍
The PVA element was new to me but makes so much sense. Many thanks.
Thanks. Yes, always worth doing. 👍
Move to new house bedroom rooms half wall is peeling off. Do I have to get someone to plaster or thin paint .also should remove all wall peel of.
Great tip Charlie Thanks !!!
Gracias tuve unos errores al pintar en tablaroca que tenía el papel roto y ahora ya se cómo repararlo 😊
can i skim with the gyproc on a dry wall plasterboard ? i removed some old wallpaper will i need to pva the plasterboard before as it has old paint beneath the paper which cant be removed and the plasterboard has not been plastered before
Yes you can skim on a dry wall plasterboard. It's a good idea to PVA, because as the plasterboard ages, it's suction may increase, so a coat of PVA will seal it nicely in preparation for the Gyproc plaster.
Thanks so much for this! We're moving out now and this has worked perfectly!
However there was one bit (about 2'×2') that I had tried to clean with one of those "magic erasers" and it turns out that the whole wall is dirty. So when I patched the hole I also painted the whole bit. So now it just looks like new paint. I've only done the mist coat, though.
Do I need to repaint the whole wall, or is there something else I can do?
Great work! If you have the same paint the wall was painted in, you may be able to spot paint the patch only without it flashing, but some paints eg eggshell and matts do flash meaning you may have to paint the whole wall.
Trying to do repairs on a red maroonish paint wall.
Any tips on blending the paint
Hi Charlie, great video! Is it essential that you use a PVA bond? Why do you do this?
Not essential in this instance but if filling a dusty hole then it is a good move.
Pva all surfaces before filling, it is so annoying otherwise; the wall/ceiling starts flaking when you think you are finished!
I use white caulk with a little water on my fingertips to apply it smoothly, then just paint right over it. Can't even tell. Easy peasy.
Can patching plaster be used for this? Is there a difference, or if not polyfiller??
enjoying your videos getting myself ready for when we move house 🤣👍👍
Excellent video just one thing I'm unsure of, is the top coat straight out of the tin without any water added?
Yes
Fantastic video thank you very much for sharing absolutely brilliant I have subscribed to your content thanks so much you legend
Our son and daughter like to do this also (tape signs up). Thanks for the video
I feel your pain 😩😉
Hi. Do you have to do the filler thing if you're going to repaint the whole wall a different colour?
Good question. I think you do still need to do it
I find decorators' caulk works well in the smallest of the holes, using the same flexi blade, and that's a one-stage job, rarely needing to be sanded other than to remove the occasional raised edge.
This guy is brilliant
Thanks for this video, very easy to follow instructions.
Thanks. Glad you found it useful 👊
Brilliant job! Thanks for sharing. I tried to paint without filling and the paint came out a lighter colour than the rest of the wall :(
If i need to do the same on wood work would I need to fill that also ?
Didn't notice a step that included the use of the Gyproc Easi-Fill - Do you use EITHER the Toupret OR the Gyproc?
Yes, either. They're both pretty similar.
I love watching your videos that you do I see you was in your bathroom and it looks great I am looking to paint my bathroom as its not been done for a very long time what is the best kind of paint would you recommend as I like to paint it in a sky blue what would you recommend to me thank you and keep up the great videos
Matthew Collins Hi Matthew thanks so much for that comment - it's a great boost to hear positive comments like that so thanks for taking the time to post it! You need a paint that will withstand high condensation - because if you just use a standard emulsion the danger is that the moisture will sink into your wall and if you're really unlucky draw out any dirt etc that was in the plaster leaving you with dark patches (as happened to me once!) I used an acrylic durable eggshell for my new bathroom that I bought from Johnstone's, like this goo.gl/ZhKF4z. I really like the Farrow and Ball colours but I think the quality of their paint is rubbish so I take the Farrow and Ball paint chart into my local Johnstone's Decorators Centre as they mix the Farrow and Ball colour but using their own paint - which I think is much better quality. Google Johnstone's Decorators Centre and see if there are any in your area. They have a massive selection of paints and are usually pretty knowledgeable behind the counter.
Failing that see what other decorators centres are around. A lot of manufacturers Dulux etc do paint specifically branded as bathroom paint eg goo.gl/mGqoQK so you could always go down to your local DIY store and see if they can do one (or mix one) in your chosen colour.
Putting a blob of the paint you’re using into the filler mix is great for this. Great vid about a real world p.i.t.a problem we’ve all faced
Thanks Blake 👍
Hi Charlie, did you know if you add a little bit of salt to the filler it sets a lot quicker. Great if you don't have the time to hang about waiting for it to go off. Do a video of it please and experiment to see how much salt you need. Keep up the great work, love watching your videos. All the best, Chris
jordancorey That's interesting mate! The only thing I'd say is that in my experience this filler goes off so quickly I almost don't need to add anything to speed it up - particularly on such a shallow repair. I'll be sure to let you know though if I experiment with that on a video!!
Charlie DIYte I was wallpapering for some one the other day and they had big holes where the telly was, some plaster had fallen off. I used easy fill with a bit of salt and it set in no time
Just used the easyfill after watching your videos, great stuff, just wished I’d got the 60 and not 20 as I’ve wasted quite a bit mixing way too much (twice!!!). Thanks for the videos, always enjoyable and purchased a few products after watching them.
Thanks Steve. Yes making the right quantity is tricky with this stuff, which is why I typically fly in the face of conventional wisdom and add water to the filler rather than the other way round. If you start with water and add filler to that you have very little control of the quantity you're making. I did an update video here if you have an idle moment bit.ly/37aov70
@@CharlieDIYte Thanks Charlie, yes started with way too much.
Great video. Thank you
Hi, Once you repaired did you paint the whale wall or the repaired area? Normally it would show the repaired area!!!!
Just came across your video! Do you use a basic acrylic eggshell paint for bathroom/kitchen or a specific bathroom paint like dulex + bathroom care?
In this bathroom it was an acrylic eggshell which has worked really well, but yes, a bespoke bathroom paint will also do a good job.
Hey, I need some serious advice.
So I ordered homebase silk paint and painted over my old silk painted wall but it started to BUBBLE everywhere!
When you pop the bubble the paint peels off like butter. So I sanded it down, applied gardz and then repainted with a matt paint emulsion.
This started to bubble also so I started to remove the old paint but it's left some very large patches. How would you go about fixing it?
What's happened here I reckon is the plaster was never sealed properly with a mist coat ua-cam.com/video/jTjlaAU1NzY/v-deo.html so you really need to peel off the original paint and start again. Gardz is great stuff but it's prevented from doing its job because it's adhering to the paint below which in turn isn't properly keyed into the plaster.
Hi Charlie. Love the video. Whats the best thing to do if having painted new plaster (mist coat and full white followed by a valspar one coat) and its now flaking in large patches?
Alastair that's a real pain for you 🙄 I'm surprised it did that after a mist coat. I did a video here on mist coating ua-cam.com/video/jTjlaAU1NzY/v-deo.html and you should have been fine so long as the emulsion you used was a contract matt (not vinyl) and permits being watered down - you have to check the tin for this as bizarrely some don't. Is it peeling off in large patches? I'm afraid you're going to have to get a painters knife and remove the loose stuff as best you can and then feather the edges with a fine sand paper before trying to repaint.
Same thing happened to me! Did you manage to sort it out? It’s hard to find any info online about this issue.
What’s your tip if I am renting and don’t have the original paint? How do I pick the closest colour paint?
Could you use a pre mixed filler? If so do you have an recommendations
Hmmm. You could but I can't vouch for the performance. You could perhaps try a light weight filler like Tout Pret REDLITE - it's incredibly light and feels like snow to the touch and is designed for small surface defects. Generally pre mixed don't have the performance of a filler or adhesive you have to mix.
Thank you so much for this info . I WELL BE DOING THIS as soon as I can
You're welcome. Thanks for the comment.
Hi Charlie , I have papered (lining paper) a room and let it dry over the weekend . Wanting the job to be as near perfect as poss I filled one or two tiny gaps in some of the joints with the very lightweight filler available now . After two coats of good quality matt emulsion , you guessed it, the filled areas are showing (flashing?) through . I wondered if any of the stain block primers would do the trick and give me a consistent surface . any suggestions would be really appreciated . By the way Ididnt thin the first coat as I thought that was only when going onto new plaster '.
Hi Richard. So I've checked with a pro decorator on my Discord forum and we could do with a photo or two to see what's happened (email me charliediyte@gmail.com). The filler shouldn't really flash like this unless you haven't rubbed it down sufficiently. He uses Zinsser Guardz of he's worried about flashing but too use this on a newly painted wall you'd need to rub it down again first.
Really useful thanks! We've just stripped the wallpaper off our hall wall revealing the original cream paintwork, with a single row of green stenciled vines near the top. It looks like it's one coat of paint on plaster, and very smoothly done until the paper was removed. Some paint flaked off with the wallpaper and/or wallpaper scraper so I now know how to prep before repainting, thanks for the video. However, I have no idea what kind of paint was used, and am guessing the stenciling was done with an oil-based paint? How do I discover which paint to use when repainting the entire wall, or would it just be easier to put up lining paper? Thanks Charlie
I would use something like Zinsser Cover Stain (or Zinsser BIN) and then paint over it with a couple of coats of good quality emulsion. Good quality because with cheap stuff the cover stain might show through.
Hi Charlie, another brilliant video, did paint all of that wall or just patch paint around the affected area?
Thanks mate. I actually just patch painted which worked great with the Johnstone's emulsion and was an invisible patch but talk to any painter and they'll say this can't be done and you need to repaint the whole wall. So I guess it's just luck of the draw depending on which paint you've got.
Thanks for this video, exactly what I was looking for. Would I need to repaint the whole wall or just the patch??
It seems to make the biggest difference as to when the original paint was applied. If your paint was damaged after about a year, then you will take notice of a patch being painted much more than had the damage been shortly after the paint was applied.
In part, the paint on the patch will not match the original color as well, and will catch your attention possibly caused by the paints' exposure to the light and other environmental factors over the duration of time since it was first applied.
Charlie - Love the results of your repair - Any idea what products in North America are equivalent to your PVA bond and Toupret?
Hi, thanks for that. No, I'm afraid not and I just tried to have a look on Home Depot and I couldn't access it for some reason from here.
Another good'n. Thank you
+Kush I You're very kind - thanks!
Hi when you did the second coat you just painted around the damage and didn’t have to paint to whole wall right?
Correct but whether you can do that does depend on the type of emulsion you've got. The flat matts tend to be harder to patch repair as you can often see the patched area. However I have just done something similar in my bedroom that was painted with a Johnstone's flat matt, and you can't really tell, so maybe experiment on a small area first.
Thanks, that has helped big time .
You're welcome. Glad you found it useful.
Does this same technique works on cement wall too?
Thank you. That was exactly what I needed
You're welcome. Thanks for the comment.
Did you paint the entire wall or just that little part?
Have a question, would you know why my double glazed windows are always wet and cloudy?
If its cloudy in-between the double glazing then there is a broken seal, the only solution is to replace the sealed unit.
Hi Charlie, how long do you need for the mist coat to dry? Thank you
Until it's dry, depending on conditions. It shouldn't take long if it's just a repair like this. A few hours?
Do you have to paint over the whole wall or just the damaged area?
Depends from one paint brand to another and the type of paint but I managed to just spot paint the damaged area without the paint flashing/ being obviously patched.
If you have this problem, over a large area (think posters & sticky blue stuff!), how would you go about it?
Same principle, just patch the small areas with the Easi-Fill, light sand and then paint. You might have to repaint the whole wall of the paint flashes.
Great tutorial as always Charlie.
I would do the same procedure but with a few ammendments:
Feather the edges of the paint not score it to help key and blend the edges of the repair better.
Add a blob of paint to the filler when mixing it to produce a 'hard stop' filler. This prevents flashing through the top coat.
Do you have a link to your video?
Thx to those techniques I made a half decent job of my patcy paintwork. It would have been helpful if your kid had pulled off more paint as the area I had to cover looked like a wall map of Middle Earth. Still, your instructions scaled up reasonably well. thx again :)
Lol. Good post.
thanks, this just happened whilst doing a split colour wall.. now i know exactly what to do!
Alan, also, see if you can get hold of some low tack, decent quality masking tape. Less likely to pull the paint off but even with a well mist coated wall masking tape can be problematic.
Good Job!
Do you have to paint while the filler is fresh? Or can it be left for a few days before painting?
Thank you
You can leave it as long as you want. Just water down the first coat so it adheres nicely to the filler, but check the paint to make sure it can be watered down, as discussed here bit.ly/3ilSD3P
Thank you. Helpful vid
Thanks Andrew 👍
Can you use polyfiller?
What if I painted a wall recently and part of the wall had like art on it.
The next day the art part paint was all lightly cracked. Like small crack pattern all over.
But the rest of the walls turned out just fine.
So i figured out the art should have been sanded before i started to paint? ( i covered it with like 5 layers of white paint)
Also i was told it was acrylic paint just afterwards...
Anywayyy i scraped alllll of the cracked paint and the color of the art came out with it.
And i have half wall scrapped like 1 paint layer deep (i fixed the deeper holes with filler.
So bottom line my concern is, what do i do to even the wall considering its a huge patch if i wanted to do like in this video. And no tool is that wide.
My only thought is I can sand the parts where it meets the rest of the wall so it wont look like an obvious sharp edge.
Then paint over it again, now that the annoying art is removed.
When you painted over it, did you paint the entire wall? Or just a small section?
The entire wall, but that's partly because it was in a small room and it wasn't a big deal to paint the whole area. However if you do just paint a small area you're going to find it difficult to blend it in with the rest of the wall.
Fantastic, thank you!
You're welcome. 👍
Can we use this product to fill in large cracks in wall??
Hmmm, define "large".
Hi Charlie, If you had the situation of a whole room being plastered and a poor mis coat being done and then it not being PVA and the paint started to peeled away....would you PVA the whole room or just scrap away, sand down the area in question? thanks I really appreciate your advice and time. :-) thanks David ps your channel as been a great help keep on going. #helpingthepeople #moneysaver #charlieDIYte
hello, what delay should i take between each coat?
Whatever it says on the paint tin 👍🏻
Same problem but on the exterior, and with much bigger areas of peeled paint. Would i use the same method here? But on a bigger scale?
You could try something like Toupret www.toolstation.com/toupret-touprelith-f-masonry-repair-filler/p15678?store=I6&mkwid=_dm&pcrid=&pkw=&pmt=&gclid=Cj0KCQjwtamlBhD3ARIsAARoaEwFLLTVkM2TTUwMJDZn4z3bSyrH0TNWpDBl1O0me2kYRuQjlRi3nBkaAjx9EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
In the past I have stuck foam pads to my walls with double sided tape which has stayed all over my walls. I have painted over the mess in the past however would love to have a seamless look once again, do you have any suggestions for products I could try before having to go back to plastering over it? Thanks 🙂
Yes, Andrew. You want to get a box of Easi-Fill - the one that has 4 x 1kg bags in it. I go into more details here ua-cam.com/video/6Omsv5-NN9k/v-deo.html but it will give you an invisible repair.
Charlie DIYte ah ok I will give this a shot! Thank you so much!!
Great video, I clicked on it it as the thumbnail to the video shows a completely different wall you were working on, which is more like the walls in the house i have just moved into , I have huge patches of bare plaster now where the paint has failed and peeled off. And the patches are too big to fill. What is your advice. Ive stripped as much paint of as i can but there is still alot on the walls.
I would buy a random orbit sander - have you got a Henry vacuum? You can connect them to the vac to minimise dust, and sand (feather) the edges with a 180 or 240 grit sandpaper. Might also be worth sanding the existing paint to provide a key for the new paint. Sounds like the wall wasn't mist coated when plastered which is why the paint has peeled off. So you will need to treat the bare plaster before repainting as I discuss here ua-cam.com/video/jTjlaAU1NzY/v-deo.html Hopefully with all that sanding you will be able to repaint without seeing the patches.
@@CharlieDIYte Cheers for the advice, I have got an orbital sander, so I’ll get cracking and see how it comes out, I’m guessing if not ill have a lot of filling to do. Yea there is defo no mist coat on there, just really annoying how some of the paint has stuck like glue and is a good 3 layers. I watched all your decorating videos now, so pretty confident with painting after this prep is done. Thank you again
@@CharlieDIYte ive just built a false chimney breast, and have used mdf sheets instead of drywall and plaster, how would you recommend i paint it? Is it worth mist coating it the same as bare plaster? Also using leyland contract matt for all mist coating, but is it a good emulsion to use to as a finish on all walls and mdf?
Thanks, just what I was looking for
Your welcome. Good luck with the repair 👍🏻
Thank you! I followed your advice and all my cracks are gone and the repair is invisible. Great advice!!
Excellent work 👏
Could you use patch putty instead of the filler?
I'm not familiar with that except being putty I suspect it wouldn't spread thin enough.
Great video once again...it's a good day if you can get an acrylic eggshell to touch in tbh...anything that has sheen tends to show, even some vinyl Matt's and durable Matt emulsions, especially deeper tints.
In fact Johnstons paints have even formulated a paint specially to combat this issue called Johnstones Perfect Matt.
I find most whites, off whites and some light bases usually touch in ok in contract Matt's and most vinyl Matt's....its always a risk. Toupret is fantastic filler and is very unlikely to flash or shrink 👍👌
Thanks mate. Some great tips there. Yes I agree - got lucky with that. I'm back on the Easi-Fill now but I suspect it's exactly the same stuff.
@@CharlieDIYte easifill not quite on the same level as toupret tbh. Easifill slightly at more risk of shrinking and flashing...but only very slightly. Toupret a little more compact
Ah, that's useful to know 👍
just adding c omment because of what marc gray said, toupret fine filler, and toupret fillers in general don't flash, which is one of the reasons I use them,
Hi Charlie, one of my Command wall hanging strips has pulled off an area of wall paint, clean revealing pretty new looking plaster. The chunk of paint is still in one piece, almost a millimetre thick, colour on front, and a thin white on the back. So does this mean I've pulled off the mist coat?
You can't pull off the mist coat as, if it's watered down correctly, it should have soaked into the fresh plaster
@@johnw2758 makes sense. I don't know what's happened then, to make the paint so weak that such a huge chunk would come off with the Command strip. Maybe the mist coat was TOO thin. It's a rented property so I'll never know. Thanks for your video.
