    Very interested to hear about Stefano. I find it much harder to pinpoint specific things about his style than I do with many other climbers.
    Alternatively, learning just what makes Toby Roberts so good would be fun (and timely if you get it filmed quickly enough).

      Toby’s mental strength is one of the greatest imo. You’ll see him visibly struggling on a boulder but he’ll somehow push through in the end. Seems like he’s able to use 100% of effort all of the time.

      @@nattokami9598 Agreed, he's got more grit than just about anyone.
      I thought Erin showed excellent mental strength as well, particularly on the lead wall in the finals. Maybe it's something they're training effectively on team GB.

    I like the format because it helps educate people like me about different climbing styles, and that can help us to better understand our own strengths and weaknesses. This in turn, I believe, can allow us to train and practice in ways more optimal for our progressions.

    It would be interesting to see some more specific climbers, as learning the intricacies of that can give insight into how to get better in niche habilities. Like how Ai Mori climbs as a short climber, how Janja has a very quikc and interesting solutions to problems, always focusing on what she does best or how a crack climber like Pete Whitaker approaches problems due to his way of finding jams and specific patterns that non-crack climbers rarely see

    Such a good example about how strength and technique are not opposites, rather they are complimentary. Having enough strength opens up new movements to you, and thus new solutions to problems. Very similar to how finger strength lets you use holds in new ways.

    Doing tricep kickbacks as shown in 1:54 will not adequately train your triceps. If you want to effectively train your triceps, tricep pushdown, skullcrushers, or close-grip bench will do a wonderful job.

    I'd love to see the best in their speciality: Anna Hazelnut for slabs, Tomoa Narasaki for Parcours Style, Aidan Roberts for his control style, Adam Ondra for using his legs, Janja Garnbret as maybe the most complete athlete, Will Bosi cause he is such a nice person and so strong, Pete for sure, the crack king, there are so many people one can learn from, I feel there's potential for 100+ videos like this ❤.

    • @LatticeTraining

    I've found I can use "press moves" on a lot of bouldering and sport route sets in Colorado; Inside and outside. I climb 5.12/5.13 and V9/V10. Shouldery moves cause strain at times (healed from 4mm supraspinatus tear). I've realized I need to focus on shoulder strengthening, and practice general constraint whilst climbing to avoid connective tissue injury. Most importantly, I do my best to listen to connective tissue strain.

    On the pogo topic, something you didn't mention that I notice strong climbers like Magnus (and any pro really) doing is an "arm pogo" (for lack of a better word). By "arm pogo" I mean they release the hand they're moving early, letting the hand on that side dangle away from the wall as far as possible, and then they swing towards the next hold from this position to generate extra momentum.

    Tricep kickbacks are a horrible exercise. The force curve is terrible, it's insanely easy to cheat by "throwing" the weight up. Skull crushers are much easier to control and harder to cheat

    • @PompousPicard1
      @PompousPicard1 2 місяці тому +1

      Or close-grip bench, or dips. Either way you get amazing tricep work, plus pecs, which is one of the few muscle groups not stressed much by climbing.

    @AnnaNibbs 2 місяці тому +1

    Great video format! There's loads of potential good ones to look at. As a fan of slabs I'd definitely like one on Anna H!
    A side benefit of watching this particular video (Magnus) is that it's made me realise I've got more opportunities than i thought i had.
    I'm mostly weak AF in the 'typical' climbing muscle groups, and in my fingers (I'm still a novice, and i also have crappy tendons and ligaments because of joint hypermobility).
    But I *do* have substantial muscle mass and strength in my triceps and delts, and i love pressing moves. I've also got fairly strong legs. I'm thinking i should maybe chuck out my disdain for comp-style boulders and give them more of a look... 🤔
    Another request: please consider analysing someone who's really good despite having a neutral or even negative ape index (not sure offhand which elite climbers fit this category).
    At 5' 7" I'm not especially short or tall, but i have long legs, a short torso, and neutral ape index, and often get scuppered by short *and* tall beta... 🥲

    Core strength with regards to the front lever, one should really consider inverted rows first. Could even go so far as a static hold/lock off in that inverted position.
    I do like the idea of these videos, but I would consider reaching out to a local certified strength and conditioning coach and collab. List exercises in a VB-V5-V10+ progression style per category. They may be able to offer insights that take this information sharing to the next level.

    The tricep kickback is a terrible tricep exersice. There is no tension at the bottom and the most tension at the top where we are mechanically disadvantaged. I'd replace it with a dip variation and ad an overhead pressing motion like a pike push-up or any overhead press with weights.

      The kickback is a perfectly fine exercise for people who are not accustomed to training triceps. It’s more comfortable for many than an overhead extension (best) and more accessible than a dip with fewer other limiting factors than either a dip or a press. Also, isolation exercises tend to play better with vigorous climbing than compounds.
