Literally the best blend under $60 there is. Amazing value. Keep up the good work Cutty and you’ll remake the prestigious name you had back in the 1960’s here in the US!
Hi Horst, excellent review. Honestly Prohibition remains one of my favourite blends and exceeds quite a few younger malts for the reasons you mentioned. It’s finally on shelves in Canada but still only available at duty free in Korea. Cheers Mark
benito789 I know I couldn't believe it. I bought it in Quebec for $35.50. It is 50% alc/vol, non chill filtered, no added colour and last but not least it has an actual cork. Can't wait to try it for the first time and give my first impressions :). It probably won't be my last bottle
It's difficult for me to pick out individual notes like Ralfy, and I've always wondered if there's even a difference between caramel, toffee, butterscotch and fudge notes, but I got a definite toffee on this one. And salt. And a vague hint of peat. So far I consider this a good educational bottle, which helps learn a singular tasting note to recognize it in the future in more complex settings.
Just sitting and enjoying this whisky and your review is so right on the mark. The whisky is so very cheap, and is a real sipper!! I keep one open most all the times for ‘medicinal purposes’, and because i love the stuff, cheers and great review!!
I tried it, but honestly to me it tasted more bready than spicy. Mostly I found vanilla, banana, baked apple and bread pudding with notes of vanilla, raisins and lemongrass. For a dram it's alright, but the profile of the whisky a bit too tame for my taste. It's a small bit of everything, but it finishes quite quickly, leaving only a slight oaky bitterness in the mouth. Alcohol sure goes through, though, because after all it's 100 proof. I'd still prefer Vat 69 or Hankey Bannister Heritage over this, but I wouldn't get insulted, if I'd get a bottle as a gift.
Thank you, Horst. Just picked up a bottle of this today. It was hard to find in South Carolina. I paid $28 US. Is there any benefit or advantage of 100 proof other than it being stronger?
the cliche whiskey snobs prefer higher ABV for whatever reason, I think 40% in my humblest opinion is the perfect amount, and 43% s close second.. anything higher than that the flavors are hidden by the overwhelming high alcohol.
Actually it means that I was less diluted, less water was added to it than if it was 40% for example. When whisky comes out of the cask it’s usually very strong (like 55-60% ABV or more) and they add water to bring down the ABV. So the stronger ABV, it means the flavour isn’t diluted as much.
If you’re taking lil sips the stronger stuff usually has more flavor. Big gulps is gonna be painful but taking it slow, it’s a better experience for a lot of people.
My first ever single malt experience. This affordable whisky brought me excitement and awareness, and prepared me for trying more and more. Fantastic nostalgia. Thanks for reviewing.
I bought a mini bottle to try and it blew me away. I was expecting way less and I was pleasantly surprised.

Literally about to head to the store for it right now
@@rileywhisky6155 I’m also in Québec and thinking about buying it.. was it good ?!
I agree, Horst! This is surprisingly good whisky for the price. At 50% ABV is has a really good kick! Not bad at all for a blended scotch.

Excellent review Horst. Thanks.

Thanks for the review. I'll buy a bottle to taste over the Christmas Holiday.
Cheers!
Thanks for the great review. Looking forward to trying this for first time as it's on its way in the post.
A pink elephant is waving at me from a tiny ship. Great whiskey👍

I feel the higher proof adds flavor and a little punch, but that’s not always true. More bang for your buck I guess.

@JohnGrove310 ,you don.t know what you're talking about,buddy...stick to with your cola:)
I can still find this for $13 US.
Just found some for $20 for a liter sized bottle. Couldn't resist grabbing one. Might go back and get another.
If Horst likes it, I like it
Black Bull 30 yo blend was bottled at 50%
I had the 12 year old and was immensely disappointed. Goes to show you that higher proof does not equal greater flavour. It had very little taste.

TheSuperTrickey This is blended scotch. There's nothing wrong with that.
This is not a single malt
It’s a blended scotch
Yeah😂
Good review…the host really chews that dram.
I have 3 bottles of this great juice!
