Can't believe it's been almost eight years since I first heard this. Listened to it countless times since, and it still blows me away. Thanks, Jake Dietrich for filming, uploading, and introducing me to Too Many Zooz.
8 years ago? Until 2 weeks ago I NEVER EVEN HEARD of these guys! Now O PRAY Leo, & 2Saxy comes to My Area... UPSTATE South Carolina, or Port Huron area of Michigan/ maybe the gulf-coast of Mississippi.... got family there too.) Such talent showcasing dedication to."wind-driven" instruments! I know that only the saxophone is considered "woodwin- instrument, Trumpeting brass section....
+Reima Well, let's give them a hand :) I been digging these guys a lot lately. Seeing them tomorrow night at Brooklyn Bowl!! www.kickstarter.com/projects/1013202534/too-many-zooz-needs-your-help-to-complete-their-de
+Tony Heredia I've seen them play in Union Square a few times just in passing, and it's one of the most intense musical displays I've ever witnessed. The sax definitely dominates in person, but that trumpet is incredible.
My son's learning to play the trumpet. I've shown him this as the ultimate inspiration. I only have a slight clue how hard this is, but that guys plays with a jaw dropping easiness.
You have ( sorry my english is bad) the normal technic to play notes to seperatly ( tu tu tu tu) And than you have the "speed" version (tutu tutu). Done by making a double tapping. He plays constantly like this :-o
lap116 dude I'm right here with you. I've been playing trumpet for five years and I'm blown away by this guy. But the bari player, he never stops, he doesn't get any breaks, imagine how his mouth feels after this performance.
Props to the drummer though. He never stopped at all. The Bari-sax too. And the trumpeter has to be military status band, pulling if those staccatos? Definitely awesome.
Um. I'm not even the emotional type and this made me cry that's how mind-blowingly awesome this was. Everything - the rhythm, the enthusiasm, soul, showmanship and energy is nothing short of stellar. ...and can we talk about endurance? I used to play trumpet and know that I would have fainted a long time ago playing like that guy did. Same for the other two! They must do cardio for that, lol. Excellent work, all the best and thank you!
The guy on the bass sax has some fancy foot work! I didn't know anyone could play that fast, loud, and high on a trumpet for so long. These guys are amazing!
I Have always loved the Brass sound probably because I played brass for 8 years in Band. These Guys are what I call real music. Hope they keep the Music coming
This is pretty amazing. A fascinating mish-mash of elements from big band music of the 20s, Cuban Mambo (think Ricky Ricardo), Mexican Mariachi, under the heavy influence of old school house music and new school hip hop. And it works! Throw in the Chuck Berry style dance antics of the Rockabilly-haircut wearing sax man, and we've got ourselves a show! Red Door (in Chelsea NYC) this Saturday March 28. I'll be there!!
Leo P is freaking amazing. This dude is is like van Halen on sax. His stage presence is a show in itself. Its crazy to so much talent not get the recognition they deserve. He’s a living legend.
I saw these guys today in Rotterdam at Metropolis Music Festival and oh my god, they were the best! The whole crowd was crazy just from watching them! The energy they give to everyone is just enormous and even after they're done, you just want to explode because all this crazy music is inside you and you just don't know where to put it and you want to scream and dance all over the place. It was freaking incredible, I am so glad I had a chance to see them live in the front row. They made my day and put an awesome start to this summer :) Thank you guys!
Why do people always walk past these things and not acknowledge them it reminds me of this story of the famous violinists. "A man sat at a metro station in Washington DC and started to play the violin; it was a cold January morning. He played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time, since it was rush hour, it was calculated that thousands of people went through the station, most of them on their way to work. Three minutes went by and a middle aged man noticed there was musician playing. He slowed his pace and stopped for a few seconds and then hurried up to meet his schedule. A minute later, the violinist received his first dollar tip: a woman threw the money in the till and without stopping continued to walk. A few minutes later, someone leaned against the wall to listen to him, but the man looked at his watch and started to walk again. Clearly he was late for work. The one who paid the most attention was a 3 year old boy. His mother tagged him along, hurried but the kid stopped to look at the violinist. Finally the mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk turning his head all the time. This action was repeated by several other children. All the parents, without exception, forced them to move on. In the 45 minutes the musician played, only 6 people stopped and stayed for a while. About 20 gave him money but continued to walk their normal pace. He collected $32. When he finished playing and silence took over, no one noticed it. No one applauded, nor was there any recognition. No one knew this but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the top musicians in the world. He played one of the most intricate pieces ever written, with a violin worth 3.5 million dollars. Two days before his playing in the subway, Joshua Bell sold out at a theater in Boston and the seats average $100. This is a real story. Joshua Bell playing incognito in the metro station was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social experiment about perception, taste and priorities of people. The outlines were: in a commonplace environment at an inappropriate hour: Do we perceive beauty? Do we stop to appreciate it? Do we recognize the talent in an unexpected context? One of the possible conclusions from this experience could be: If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world playing the best music ever written, how many other things are we missing"
Pharozos Which is precisely why you see a guy filming them, and several people stopping to watch and/or tip them. Personally, I think it's cool but if I'm in a subway, I'm going somewhere and not likely to have extra time. It's also ridiculously loud and headache-inducing in such a small place with no sound deadening qualities.
James Stanley It's something to think about, obviously some have to go to work, but some dont even take out headphones or glance, their lives aren't that important to take 5 minutes out to something joyful. Again, just a thought, you dont have to come out and prove me wrong
Isn't it crazy how music can bring people together like this? If you haven't already seen the subway sax battle, I suggest you check it out. Music will be the savior of humanity one day. I swear.
5:09 to 6:34 was 🔥!! Leo P's speed staccato technique is perfection. Matt D is a hell of a trumpeter, MAN can he swing! And King of Sludge keeps all the moving parts glued together like clockwork!
Been listening to this legendary performance ever since it came out. I love the vibes of the song transitions, the first vibe be hollering everyone to come in and join the journey that's about to begin, then the second song comes in like you finally made it to the party and you're the vip, then the third song got this latin vibe but it's like thanking everyone for showing up and the trip is on its way out to the next journey.
I think us musicians appreciate these type of things more just cause we notice EVERY detail. I can speak for most musicians when I say this was absolutely brilliant!
Such artistry and skill showcased here. This kind of sound with only three instruments is amazing. Glad someone got a video of these musical geniuses doing what they do, in the middle of a train station to boot.
As someone who have played saxofone for 12 years and can play both drums and trumpet, I have to say JESUS SHIT THAT IS THE MOST AMAZING THING I HAVE EVER HEARD!! HOLY SMOKES!!!
His trumpet sound is so fucking fierce, it gives me shivers
I think the drummer deserves more credit than he's getting, he kept a solid, amazing and diverse beat the whole time.
True
Totally. He is great.... and unique.
This has the right amount of cow-bell.
I just think, it could use A little more cowbell
+Kyle Trombley MOOOAR COWBELLL!!!!!
+TheLA384 NOTHING has the right amount of cowbell. Even a track with isolated frantic cowbell has not enough cowbell !!!

Well I know he can play shit can be hard I suck at trumpet
Matthew Rader I think lap116 is talking about double tonguing and that he doesn't mean constantly.
lap116 dude I'm right here with you. I've been playing trumpet for five years and I'm blown away by this guy.
