easier when they are over a year old, their nose(cere) turns blue or brown. Blue male, Brown Female. Usually females have lighter feet and male have it more grayish. The problem is when they are less than a year old, you still can't tell much and the body shape sometimes don't tell much either. If they are young it's harder to tell but usually the females have a blue tint on their nose(cere) and the males have a pinkish tint, which is funny. The special kinds are harder to tell though. I do like some of the tips here but a lot of it is very hard to tell when they are young. I had a male bird that looked like a female literally the only thing that gave away was the feet color and cere color when he was older.
True
So that is why my female cereal is no color
some female budgies also have light blue ceres instead of brown. they are easy to tell apart, because male budgies have dark blue ceres, not light blue
Thanks! My albino is a girl! She was so bold, outgoing & adventurous, I thought it was a male. Thanks for explaining!
Glad I could help
Could I send you an adorable short video of her? Pls explain how if yes

Is this bird male or female?
I got the same bird
I have two blue budgies and I just put a nest in their cage and the one I thought was a male actually turned out to be a female 😂 Her cere turned brown and I was like; *"what the hell? U were supposed to be a male, so what happened?"*
Yeah so *he* is now a *she*
Transgender? lol
Hahaha lol
Me to
Like me I think the blue male and the yellow female but it’s opposite
LOL
Well I too have 2 blue budgies!!
You dodnt have to discuss it, the picture of the video before you click on it already made me figure out what gender my bird is 😂
haha, that's great :D I'mma start uploading pictures instead of videos :D
The music on this video got me anxiety
Esraa yes not good music for this video lol

So far I’m really thinking mine’s female, she’s still very young though
Mine is female
@@JIAZZY wait can you help me figure mine out ?
Afrahcircus I’m not much of a bird expert but ok
I have an Ino I rescued, it is an Albino, so I'm having trouble telling gender..? Great video the most thorough I've seen.
Just got a baby white budgie. Liked and subscribed :) 🙏❤
I really like this about budgies
My bird layed eggs and the male wont let her go in or near the nest and he sits in the box all day and we seperated them help?
If he sits on the eggs then that's fine. My male cockatiel would do the same so I would get him out so the female would go in the nest box. If your bird is also tamed then u could do the same as i did. But if not and he *sits* on the eggs then don't disturb him, he just wants to be helpful (i think) but my male cockatiel *sometimes* would let the female in but would go in the box and steal her eggs and put them underneath him 😂😅
I'm still stuck on my budgie. It is an albino budgie who has a tanish and blue sided cere. It isnt loud but it can be loud when my make leaves the cage. So Pleas HELP ME!!!
I bet is female..female tend to have tan colors on their ceres and of course they change shades from pink to whitish blue then tan and a bit brownish. ..male is very pink and as gets older he can change to purple or very dark blue
indigo 88 what’s a cere-
Candy the unicorn I think it’s the thing above the beak
what was that, I got two boy budgies and both there Ceres are blue so your birds a male if it has that too! If it’s tan or pink or browny it’s a female.
Pastel Wolfie ohhhh I have 2 girls and 1 boy then
Why do female parakeets bite extremely hard? They hold on tight to your finger like a mini pit bull and don't let go! Lol!Males are more sweeter, easier to tame and don't bite that hard. 💕
Yeah, My Female budgie bit my mom.
My female bonded with me faster then my male
Yes u r right 😊... female bites too harder...
I swear my Lutino And Albino Bird hate me every time I say “Fly if u hate me” both of them fly and the Opaline one is like 👁👄👁
I still cant different what is the gender of my bird pls help me
males look like sticks females got some curves
Anonymous is 8 months old enough to know?
If you notice that the budgie's nose is pink or white, it's a female one.
If you notice that its nose is blue, then it is a male.
Zunayna Mahreen can males noses be very light blue?
Paperkitten:0 yes
I had an inu once
But one of the parents killed it
It was so depressing
It got so big it even came out the box
R.I.P twilight
Zana Khan What happened? Why did your parent kill it?
My parents didn't kill it
The male buddies killed it
Which was the father
Aww I’m sorry to hear this. May your twilight Rest In Peace and watch over you
I just separated the female budgie from her babies because she was hurting them. The male is a very very nice brid being, he is still giving them food
Thanks, I was scared I got a female budgie for my male budgie because I'm not ready for eggs and someone told me that boys have blue and females have pink.
I have 2 males lol one named mini P one named dough boy both have blue ceres that changed from pinkinsh purple to blue.. they are both going through eye changes right now. They are both very vocal and musical and they love to barf in each other’s mouths.
My budgie Molly has the exact wooden mirror as your birds
I wish I had seen this video sooner. I believe I have a recessive pied male with dark eyes and a pink cere. Then my blue bungie's cere just turned brown so she's female.all these months, I thought she was a male because of her light blue cere. I may have to adjust their names.
this vid made my budgies chirp
I had two budgies for a little over a year one male and one female. I wanted to get another budgie to join as they have a happy life and we have plenty of room for more love. I went to the same store and bought a very young budgie with a pink cere hoping it will be a male as they are friendlier. However, now that the new budgie is home my older male budgie will not leave it alone everywhere the baby goes he is right on top of it tapping his beak on it quite forcefully. Obviously, he is trying to mate but the baby is too young. My male budgie is being obnoxious coming on too strong. Yesterday he was tapping his beak so hard on the baby that a little blood came out of the baby's cere. She/he is too young to know how to defend themself as my older female usually pecks at the male to chase him away. Naturally, I separated them but the baby loves the older ones and wants to be by them. Also, the male s screaming his head off so he can get to the baby. Is there anything I can do to get my male budgie to back off?
update? how r they all now?
@@stuckinthesystem1384 Everything has calmed down finally. Our new baby is in fact a boy and found his own voice to earn respect in the pecking order. All is well as can be with three little crazy budgies

I don't breed, but did allow one relentlace little lady rear 3 babies. They are 3 weeks old. Mom is regular green possibly with 1 dark factor, dad is sky blue Opaline. Baby #1 shows a lot of blue in the wings (Opaline?). Baby 2 has been a mystery so far, until it clicked today and I researched cinnamon. She (if she is cinnamon and I understood correctly, she would be a girl?), is a lovely mix of shades of light browns, not grey or black. She has just begun to show very light blue on her back. #3 is also showing a very small amount of blue on its back, wings appear off white/grey and black.
So, what I am truly asking is, if #2 is cinnamon, did I understand correctly?
And I you have any other insights?
I really like your accent. What is your mother country ? Romania? Moldova ?
I Think Its romanian (im romanian)
I'm Romanian boiiiiiiiiiiiii
Hey guys welcome to the biology class!!
My blue budgie a lite blue cere with white around the nostril. His legs are a little bit blue. I'm questionning about it's gender. I think he is 4 month old max. What do you think?
wow thx I just had 5 bby budgies and 2 where rudinos I didn't know their cere doesn't change fyi my indoor aviary is so tall that to change their food and water I have to get up on a chair
Hello there from India .. I'm still not being able to figure out the gender of my budgies (my first). Its been a little above 2 months I got them. I can see the color of the ceres changing slightly .. But not showing any signs of mating. I'm perplexed at the moment .. Don't know what to do.
Really like your videos though. Very informative 👍👍👍
Send me pics
I’m planning to get a budgie
Get few of them so one is not lonely
indigo 88 would it make sense to get one first and tame it before getting a second one? I heard that if you get 2 together they tend to shut you out more and are harder to tame
G yep get one first then maybe get a friend if you want. Even after being tamed they can turn on you and stop trusting you if you get them a bird friend.
I had to use cere color and behavior to figure it out...my blue
Budgie Angel is probably male. Cere is like blue- purple but the bird also taps on a mirror all day and tries to feed the new budgie so I’m guessing male. When I first got the new budgie he even tried to get on the back of the other one so I’m pretty sure it’s a male but he’s probably still immature. As for the new one I think it might be a female because it’s much quieter and has a different car that’s much quieter but it’s young yet and I can’t really tell this year appears white with a little blue but young females can have blue. So confusing!
Correct me if I'm wrong but I always thought it was the colour of the 'bulging' bit above the top of the beak (its nose?)? Brown for female and blue for male? I'm only up to 3:25 so maybe it comes later? :)
it's called the cere, and yes it comes later :)
@@BudgieWorld I realised that ... sorry I should have edited my comment ... or waited a bit longer. lol Thanks.
My budgies nose is blue right around the nostrils and then is slightly grey-purple. Is it male or female?
I enjoyed your video, but still can't tell what gender my new budgie is. I decided to do a DNA test. I lost a female parrotlet to egg binding so I want to know the gender of my new budgie so if she is female, I will be looking for early signs of egg binding.
Hi can I send you a picture on email of my budgies to verify if they are male and female
I don’t think you need music. If you think you need it, please lower down so we can keep up with your voice over. Many thanks for the info you provide us with. Really appreciate it.
you are 100% right, this video is one of the first ones I've made, and I got told that the background music is very loud, so I did pay attention more to the music to keep quite, (we learn as we move forward), and to compensate for the first couple of videos I am adding subtitles to all my videos as well, I think I will get to this video by the next week and add captions.
Thanks for your advice
This video does have captions now! Thanks again for your constructive criticism
I have a 1 month old male baby budgie...if I get another baby 1 month old female budgie will they bond and breed when they get older?
nice
I think my little baby is a girl. She has a light blue/white cere and doesn't sing much except with a sqawking noise. Although she is not weaned yet so it might be too early to tell
A bit confused. I have 2 Budgies ... one is turquoise and white ... the other is grey and white ... both are young and male/female is still a bit iffy. Would I consider them Opaline? There's no yellow. My guess is Opaline.

Help my budgie is blue with a pinkish purple cere is that female?
I'ma get a budgie and I was wondering if the females are more aggressive than the males? And should I get one if it's a baby or a adult
My budgie cere is light pink can tell what it's gender is?
So confused on the gender of my 5.5 year old budgie. When I bought him he had a beige cere (under 3 months old) then it turned bright dark blue with white around the nostrils. Now it is brown and crusty (like a female in breeding condition) he has always had pink/tan feet
I have a blue female but a yellow/green spangle (maybe cinnamon) which I don't have a clue... Its got a light pinky purple cere but I can't tell what it is. Shame I can't put a picture on so people could help
I am having issues determining the gender of my budgie I believe it’s ino or creamino and is a baby all white with barely noticeable yellow on the face and red eyes the cere is white with outer very light pink nostrils are white as well
Informative!
Careful when mentioning X-linked mutations though, since birds don't have X and Y chromosomes! It is the mother, not the father, who determines the sex in birds: "The sex chromosomes in birds are designated Z and W, and the male is the homomorphic sex (ZZ) and the female heteromorphic (ZW). In most avian species the Z chromosome is a large chromosome, usually the fourth or fifth largest, and it contains almost all the known sex-linked genes."
I think this is what you mean when talking about the ino/opaline/cinnamon mutations. If a daughter displays a mutation the mother doesn't, it must due to the Z--linked trait from the father. Conversely, if a child displays the same sex-linked mutation as the mother, there is no way to tell the gender since it could be carried on either the Z or W chromosome, right?
I have two and after watching every video I can find, I still have no idea what gender 1 of them is. It has faded white around nostrils and the cere is skin tone? some light conditions looks faint blue and others looks faint brown its a primarily yellow with neon green belly and on the nape the lines or lack of form an hour glass shape. It's bigger then the other so I assume its around 8 months old any one have an idea as to the gender?

Hi I have had my birds for about a year and a half but I don't know when they were born they both have similar colored Ceres but my one who I think is a boy has a more blue and purple around the edges while the other one which at first I thought was a girl because she had a more pinkish color has now turned dark blue she seems to scream aggressively most of the time like you said and the boys sings More Often they also click their beaks together and my other one tries to feed her please help me or at least what you think their genders would be thank you
