ahh! this helped so much! I got 2 budgies at the start, not one, so that explains why I have had them for a year and they still hate me. (Yes, I tried taming multiple times and a gentle way, nothing worked.) I have a spare cage (proper size for 1 bird) so, I'm going to separate them for the training process. But I will be keeping the cages next to each other so they don't miss each other.
I just got two budgies and at week two we started to learn them to lick the finger before getting a treat. One of them understood it immediately an got the treat every time. The other observed, and started with biting hard. Then I just removed the treat and not the finger, and after just 4-5 tries he also got it. Fantastic experience.

Yeah Kai our budgie is really bonded to our quaker parrot Nike. We introduced them to each other pretty early on but Kai still lets us interact and train with him.
I appreciated your tips. I’ve had my parakeet for almost 4 months. He was a gift from PetSmart, so I don’t know is age. He was frightened twice soon after he was purchased and won’t come out of his cage. However, he did accidentally one time, flew around and landed. When I quietly and slowly approach him, he stepped on my finger and we slowly returned to his cage. How do you deal with free flight in your house regarding their excrement?
Awesome video! Wish I had seen this before we got out 2 babies at the same time. I know you recommended getting a second cage. Would you then put them in different rooms? Or keep the cages side by side? we've had them for almost 3 months now and think they have bonded. Would it be a problem to separate them now? Thanks!
If the birds are already bonded, don’t put them in separate rooms or they can become depressed. You can try having two different cages and open the cages during the day so they can play so they only sleep apart. But if they show signs of being depressed, put them back in the same cage. Good luck!

I had 2 budgies for several years who recently died from what appeared to be old age. Now I have a huge (5 feet long) wonderful cage that I turned into a plant place, but I so miss my birds. I'm thinking of getting one budgie now. I am retired & home all the time so can give it plenty of attention. If I let the budgie out of the cage will it stay in one area where there is a good toy & perch set up, such as on top of the cage or do they like to fly all over the house? I've seen parrots that only hang out in their play area outside the cage, but budgies might be different. Do they poop everywhere or like to go in a certain place when outside the cage? Thanks!
To be honest it really depends on the birds personality! My birds will stay in their place but that’s just me. Plus even if the do poop everywhere it’s really small and easy to clean :)

I agree with Jodi, keep them in your living room but make sure you never spray any scents or burn candles near them. Also make sure they are no where near the kitchen as the chemicals and smells damage their respiratory system. If you do decide to light a candle, maybe move them into the room, also try installing fly screens on your doors so they can’t get out. If their cage is open, never open the doors and lock them so others can’t. If you know the doors will open and close a lot, move them into the room. Hope this could help :)
I've decided to get my petstore budgie a friend, but I'm not sure if to get it from a pet store or a breeder. I can't find the breeders reputation anywhere. If you have millet sprays that could be better. When she is hungry like right in the morning when she wakes up, offer a millet spray but try keep your fingers as far down as you can. Slowly you can build up the trust and put your fingers closer and hopefully she won’t be scared. If she does run away from the millet spray, just stay still and don’t chase her. Let her come to you. I have two budgies. One budgie likes me very much and I'm training it to step up. But the other one is very scared of me. Do you have any idea why? I never did anything aggressive to it.
Some birds will just take longer than others. Over time the not so tame bird might copy the other one. Just take things slow and don’t have high expectations :)
My budgie managed to eat the millet spray I offer him but when I move it a bit further he just ignores it, what should I do so that he could perch on my finger?
I have three budgies, Two of them were bought together, and one of them was severely traumatized by its last owner since it was led to a fly trap. I got a third one that was around 5 months old and they are all now comfortable with their new cage here at my home. How can I get them to get close enough for me to attempt to tame them?
I would start by just sitting outside but near the cage for a good few days. Once they don’t freak out if you go close to them, offer some food through the cage. I’d recommend a millet spray and just stick it through the cage bars or just hold it by the very end. I would feed this like for a week or so, untill they are calm. Then try feeding them out of your hand. Remember patience is key and take it slow :)
Hi, my budgie has started to eat spray millet from my hand, how much spray millet is okay for him? I don’t want to fill him up only with that as it’s not the most healthy thing for them. And how should I progress to the next step where he’s okay with stepping on my hand?

One of my budgie that I got today is scared and everything but I stepped up to my finger and was eating the spray milliet and then just flew away but his partner is always scared and always tries to fly out
I got 2 bugies around a mo th ago, the first one was abandoned and as he was really lonely and I don't believe into keeping animals such as birds alone I got a 2nd one a week later. Since then I'm trying to tame them as especially the 2nd one is extremely afraid of hands. Sounds weird but I'd be happy if they'd be aggressive because I find aggressive birds to be easier to work with than scared birds..They're both really skittish.
My girl Loui was very skittish. I recommend talking to them everyday all the time. Let them become used to your voice. Place your hand or millet in the cage but don’t move it. You need to let them get used to your presence. When you feel the time is right is when you can get them to step up. But be careful as skittish birds break their trust easy
Hello! I ,made the mistake of buying 2 parakeets at once, and they don’t really care about me. I’ve had them for about five months, and they really don’t like me. How would I train 2 birds at once?
Is it possible to retame a bird? I have a budgie(4yo male) and I tamed him within the first four weeks of owning him. We moved house a few months after and he became afraid of me and wouldn't perch on my finger. I have tried numerous times to try and retame him and they all failed. I don't know why it happened and I can't pet him or rub him anymore.
Why is he scared of your hands now? Try think of something happened or is it his natural instinct kicking in. You can try tame him but I would but keep your hand still next to him with food. Don’t follow him with your hand as that’s a big mistake people make and it breaks trust. Sometimes if they are a lot older birds it’s just better to leave them alone so you don’t stress them out :) just take it very slow and talk/sing to him
@@louiandfrank5595 Well I had him on the floor when we moved because our house was literally finished(as in no running water and concrete floors and furniture everywhere). I still have him on the floor cause I got no where else. Tried to get a small table but couldn't find one. He is supposed to be in the sitting room but that is still unfinished. He is in my room now. I tried taming him by putting my hand on the outside of the cage for a few minutes everyday. Then I would move my hand outsde the cage the next week. The week after I put my hand in the cage. Then I tried moving my hand in the cage. It took forever and it was no use. Tried to bite me when I put my hand near him and flew around.
I would try keeping your hand a biting distance away and offer something like a millet spray so you dont get bitten. And let him come to you so you don’t get bitten
Thank you so much but I have a question. I have 2 budgies one of is female other is male. I had female first she was 4 weeks old when I took her. I tried to tame her but she is biting so hard and it's very hard to tame now she is already 1 years old and she doesn't talk but she is interested what I'm saying and she loves playing on my shoulder. Do you think that I can tane her now or is it too late?
It’s never impossible to tame your budgie! It will be super hard and feel like you are going no where but if you persist, you will. Even if you just start out by only offering treats and doing that for two weeks, that’s a win. Just don’t force the birds to do anything and do your best to be patient and don’t get angry. Wishing you the best 😁
i got 2 parakeets on my bday, its been 2 weeks since i got them now they eat from my hand which i am happy about! i am now trying to train them to step on my finger lol (i trained both of them at the same time since one of them always gets jealous of the other one, so she mimics him xD)

Try find a toy/ treat they like and lure them to your hand. When they are on your hand don’t move and overtime you can move your hand out. You need to make yourself seem fun so they want to come out
I’m not sure if my birds trust me :|. One of them eats long treats I get her, but the other doesn’t. They both are around 4 months and don’t bite usually, but they do bite while playing with my hand. It doesn’t hurt but idk what it means.
It’s very hard to tame a bird if they are not a baby or weren’t hand raised. I would start by just sitting outside the cage and only move close if he doesn’t freak out. Only put ur hand in the cage if he’s calm, this may take months to get to. Even if u can feed him through the cage, that’s amazing
I got one from a rescue center and even if he is like 8 years old and comes from an abusive house ( is it said like that?) he started eating from my finger and lips! He is really cutee :))

2 budgies landed on my shoulder there 4 months now had them3 weeks I talk to them for hours got a parrot cage for my 2 girls I tried the hand thing the millets they just won't come near me my one budgie flew out of the cage while I was cleaning the bottom of cage bit me hard I never reacted
I wonder if I should take them in one safe room and open the cage let them out maybe they will land on me??????
I have two budgies. One budgie likes me very much and I'm training it to step up. But the other one is very scared of me. Do you have any idea why? I never did anything aggressive to it.
Some birds will just take longer than others. Over time the not so tame bird might copy the other one. Just take things slow and don’t have high expectations :)
@@louiandfrank5595 thanks
My budgie managed to eat the millet spray I offer him but when I move it a bit further he just ignores it, what should I do so that he could perch on my finger?
Wait until he’s hungry so he will come to the millet. I recomend doing this as soon as he wakes up so he hasn’t eaten
Loui and Frank okay I’ll try that. Thank u so much✨
I have three budgies, Two of them were bought together, and one of them was severely traumatized by its last owner since it was led to a fly trap.
How do you get them to go back in the cage ...do you let them go back on their own or do you put them in there?
Very nice
Hi, my budgie has started to eat spray millet from my hand, how much spray millet is okay for him? I don’t want to fill him up only with that as it’s not the most healthy thing for them.
And how should I progress to the next step where he’s okay with stepping on my hand?
What do I do if I already have 2 budgies and they’re bonded to each other but I’m not allowed to get another cage
Still do the same steps but it might be harder. Consider taking them into another room when doing taming sessions
I have two cages but I feel like I stress them out when it’s the end of the night and I have to put them in there own cages what should o do to make it less stressful
Welp i already screwed up, my grandma bought me two Budgies, Snow n Frost, n their both in one cage, so im guessing i have a skin chance of taming em
You can tame both! It may take longer but just be patient :)
How do I get my budgies on a fruit and veggie diet? They literally won't eat anything other than seeds and millet. I've left a variety of fruits and vegg in their cages and they just avoid it..
Try eating in front of them. Normally they get curious and want to eat what you eat!
Honestly I would say to put it and it only in their cage but that’s not how birds work, so I wouldn’t recommend
This is so helpful. I feel I failed on day one as mine flew out the cage and I had to catch him to put him back as it was not safe. Have I ruined the trust? 🥺
You may have slowed the taming process but never be discouraged if you put in the effort you will see results
I myself lost my budgie trust but after and week or 2 he calmed down
Also on day one a bird won’t trust you anyway so don’t stress too much pls
I would recommend do a lot of research and tame a bird in the cage
You’re amazing!
Thanks!!
I have 3 passed down birds from my brother should I separate them until their tame? Although they’ve been together basically there whole life
I wouldn’t separate them as they would all be bonded. It will be very hard to tame them as they are all bonded unless they were previously tamed
Hi! Can u help me! I have a pregnant budgie and she laid eggs 10 days ago (Oktober 13th), and they are growing well but i looked yesterday and today in the nest and the budgies dont seem to have the ‘full’ crop. But they are growing? So are they feeding them or should i hand feed? I dont know how to hand feed and what to use so please reply as fast as possible :(!

hi ! i have 2 budgies that were adopted together one of them is 3 months old and the other 7 months old.. the 3 months let me touch her sometimes and she ate from my hand 2 times ! (Its been a month since we had them) so any tips x
Keep going with feeding them from your hand! That’s great progress. I’d start making weird noises and seeing if they become interested in you. Or see if they will play with your hair :)
@@louiandfrank5595 thank youu !
I have 2 budgies male and female.
So how do I tame them one of them steps on my finger a bit
Just be patient and tame them one at a time and do taming sessions separately in a different room.
@@louiandfrank5595 What do you mean.
My budgies are not tame so how do I tame them in a different room.
Ir do I just move their cage and then put my hand in
So when you get them to the point where they will come on your hand, take one into another room. This is so it’s one on one bonding time
@@louiandfrank5595 oh sadly in still trying to get them used to my hand and try make them eat from my hand.

Hello, my budgie hates me! The male is aggressive and always tried to bite everytime I get closer to him. How do I tame him?
The female is timed and comes to my hand sometimes but just to bite the hell out of my fingers!!
Am stuck and unable to make any progress, what can I do to get the birds trust?!
I have 3 budgies all together. We got them like 2 days ago but I want to tame them. Should I take the one I want to tame out and put it in another cage and put it in another room or should I keep them together?
Yes you could try take one out but don’t do that if the birds are already bonded
@@louiandfrank5595 i dont have millet anywhere in my country...
Hello! I ,made the mistake of buying 2 parakeets at once, and they don’t really care about me. I’ve had them for about five months, and they really don’t like me. How would I train 2 birds at once?
Thanks for the tips
All good! Thanks for watching :)
@@louiandfrank5595 ok I'll try but I need to get more millet first.

Thank you so much 💜
Yeah I know its gonna be so hard but I'll do my best 😄
i got 2 parakeets on my bday, its been 2 weeks since i got them now they eat from my hand which i am happy about! i am now trying to train them to step on my finger lol
(i trained both of them at the same time since one of them always gets jealous of the other one, so she mimics him xD)
That’s amazing progress and I’m so happy to hear that!!

@@stitchedheart587 can you tell me how did you exactly tame them and get them to eat from your hand? Because I got two budgies 6 days ago and they are pretty chill with me being around them but once I get my hand inside to give them lettuce or anything like that they get scared...
@@stitchedheart587 and I don't know why but they don't like eating anything except for seeds... Like I gave them vegetables, fruits and eggs but they don't like anything (even if I put their seeds in the vegetables to get them to eat it they don't) and the worst part is when I try to train them I can't give them anything as a treat because they don't eat anything else besides their seeds
Can I let both of my budgies (untamed) fly around my room? They always want to go out of the cage but I dont know how to bring them back in. I need help :(
I don’t have much experience with this sorry. Maybe you should change their cage around to see if they enjoy it?
I just got two bugies and after two weeks letting them settle in to their new environment, I began training them to trust me. They are now at the stage where they feel comfortable standing on my hand while my hand is still in the cage. My question is: how do you get them to eat vegetables and fruits? I've tried everything and they still refuse to eat either or. :/
Eat food on front of them, maybe they will become curious and try it for themselves. Also just leave it in their cage for a week so they get used to it
It really worked i love you
Thanks for the support :)
I got my budgie with clipped wings i didnt have the choice and he is my only tamed budgie i have another one and she wont come to me and flys away from me
That’s okay just let them grow out. Let your bird come to you and never chase them. You can try lure them over with food
nice video !!
Thanks for info.
I got two birds and we can’t afford another cage :( the one we got was fairly large and I don’t think another 100 dollars can happen.. any other way?

What type of budgie is frank?
He’s a multicrested budgie :)
After 6 days my budgie is so sweet, making kiss noises to me and stepping on my finger to go out of the cage, I am very proud of him but training has been a handful 😅🥰🥰🥰
When he steps up imma go: sheeeeee
Hi Loui and Frank from Fudgie and Pepper!
what about taming with a stick?
My budgie is letting me touch his body with my finger, like coddle his belly, but he doesnt want to jump on my finger. Whenever i put my finger to his belly or legs, he just stays there frozen. He never bit me
same!
Me too
I have two budgies and I can’t separate them because my mom won’t get another cage. They are still scared of my hand. I don’t know what to do. I talk to them all the time. I tried millet and they don’t like it. I don’t know what to do😭
Try find a toy/ treat they like and lure them to your hand.
If they aren’t biting and it’s only nibbling, they could be preening you and that’s a great sign
I just got my bird so far it does not like me but I'm trying to gain its trust please can u give me so tips it will really help. :)
Take it slow and never chase your bird! Let them come to you :)
I need tips I have had my Male budgie coco for 5 years I just named him and hes scared of my hand and even when it's out side 😭
I'm also struggling with my female budgie I've tried everything but nothing is working she is1 year old
Thank you🥰
