Fuzzy Bugger - streamer fly tying

- Part Woolly Bugger and part Fuzzy Wuzzy. Started out as a Woolly Bugger tied with the cool speckled Whiting Coq De Leon hen feathers. But since the best part of these feathers were to short for the palmer hackle on larger hook sizes - i started using the Fuzzy Wuzzy style with 2 seperat hackles. Worked so great - that i had to give the fly a name. Since I just combined two great patterns - the name had to be Fuzzy Bugger :0) I tie this fly in a variety of colours - so it's more a tying style, that a precise pattern. Works great with partridge hackles as well. You can choose colours to match your local leeches and rag worms.

Beautiful pattern
Thanks a lot. Cheers, Michael :0)
Once again a great show
Thanks a lot, Janusz. Cheers Michael :0)
looks great! i like how it looks when it swims in the water too!
Thank you! Cheers, Michael :0)
nice fly man! you have expertise.
Thanks a lot. Tight lines, Michael :0)
Nice color combo and body style! I think I'm going to add a bead or cone head and articulate it; fish it as a mini streamer.
Hi Pat. Thanks for your feedback. That sounds like an awesome variation. All the best, Michael
i thought it looked like a swing hook would make it a great summer steelhead fly. i'm going to spin some of these up.
Another awesome tutorial Michael 👍 I'll have to look up "Fuzzy Wuzzy" as a fly pattern. I know Fuzzy Wuzzy was a 🐻 bear, my mother used to recite that rhyme to me as a child :0) Fine looking fly! Thanks 👌😎
Thanks Joe. The Fuzzy Wuzzy is a classic New Zealand trout fly... and a bear. All the best, Michael :0)
Thanks Michael...awesome fly!! I know a place close to home to use that fly!😉 Perfect color combo for those big fish on the Williamson River USA!!!
Thanks a lot for your response Marlon. Cool that you like it. I some way it reminds me some of the flies Polly Rosborough tied for the Williamson. Subdued, fuzzy and ragged. As i recall Polly rated the Williamson as being: “As good as any fly stream in North America.” I guess it still is. All the best, Michael :0)
Michael Jensen
Indeed...fuzzy and ragged! Just like Polly, he resembled his flies!! I will send you a pic of a monster trout with your “fuzzy & ragged” fly well scissored in a huge mouth!!
Looking forward to see that, Marlon. I love your photos :0)
I love the pattern Michael, thanks for sharing! A question on the materials used; to tie a smaller version of this, (8’s & 10’s) would you stick with the coq de leon or go to a smaller brahma hen soft hackle?
Thanks for your feedback, Eddie. I have the CDL in several colors, and on some of them the smallest feathers will do fine on 8 and 10, but on others they are to long fibered. Most kinds of soft hackle will do fine as a substitute. It's just, the CDL has these very nice subtle colors. Cheers Michael :0)
Thanks for this good bandage guide! I suppose it's a sea trout fly. When do you best use them? Sunny, dark, cold, warm? Thank you for your answer and keep up the good work, great informative videos. Greetings from Germany (Heidelberg)
Thanks for your response Andreas. I mostly use this fly in clear water in the salt as well as in lakes and rivers. Since it imitates leeches in freshwater and ragworms in the salt, I tend to use the Fuzzy Bugger most early and late in the day - or on dull and dark days, where these critters are most active. Right now it is super hot in my local fjords, since rag worms are swarming and seatrout go mad. Give it a try in the salt in april. Alle the best, Michael :0)
