The million view loss thing probably isn't accurate since it happens over the course of several years, I'll have to do more research Initially i was gonna review this series until the end of season 2 and probably drop it there; but with the leaks and the allegations against Viv well... idk whether I should continue to review it or not. Might wait for season 2 to end before giving an overall at this point as a finale over all and then probably give up since I don't think the show is going back on any of the changes they continue to make to character backstories we'll see, I'll keep ya posted but otherwise I'm excited to move on to funner reviews!
Yup, I need serious conformation, for a loving loyal gal who loves Moxxie to death, which is fine we need more loyalty in adult animation, but even with that- she sure doesn't mind when Blitz is all in their business or straight up says he'll sleep with both of them while she's in ear shot and insults\bullies Moxxie right in front of her, Blitz watching them both pork buck naked and private parts flying everywhere and making Moxxie insecure about his size is not a big deal to her whatsoever, or sending Blitz what items she should use on Moxxie in bed knowing full well Moxxie hates that Blitz watches them pork, like Hezu asked, why does she let these things slide so much? I get it's just gags, they're horny demon hell imps and they're not perfect and all sunshine and flowers, Blitz is an arse and Millie is chill and it's not supposed to be taken seriously, I understand and she is one of my favorite characters, but the show really needs to let her be more than Moxxie's wife and Blitz's no self respect employee, and I don’t want to come off as “oh Moxxie and Millie being in love is BAD” No, it’s not, but I really don't need a character like Blitz getting a happy ending with a married couple, then the love feels ruined imo, but he most likely will cause Viv loves having him sleeping with whoever he wants just because haha sex funny and he’s sexually active so laugh, Millie doesn't even bother calling him out cause "He's our boss! It's not that big A deal." The show can't even bother giving any backstory, it doesn't have to be too dramatic or deep or even happen that much, but they gotta stop putting Millie in a place where she clearly has history but then just turns it around to another character giving us nothing.
The fact that Sir Pentious who was originally supposed to be a background character, gets more trivia word counts then Charlie, the main character really says a lot.
The show hasn't even been released? We don't really know all that much, besides some info. Charlie is the main character so we are going to get more information about her once it releases. The same goes for the other characters
I think my biggest issue w the whole “Millie will get an episode later” excuse is that you don’t need a Millie centric episode to give her characterization or smth to do. This episode literally opens w her furious abt running into Chaz yet we only focus on moxxie’s history w Chaz n don’t even get a mention of how she knows him other than him being her ex
It's like Vivzie doesn't care about writing women. All women in her shows are written around men. It's so weird, when you noticed this the whole show falls appart fast.
@@thelonleygengar which is ironic, she’s a woman herself. You’d think she’d know a thing or two about writing female characters but apparently she doesn’t. I’ve seen male writers write female characters better and more interestingly. *cough* *cough* SMG4 *cough*
Your rant about how viv treats female characters was so cathartic. I have no idea how anyone thinks they’re well written outside of either projection or lust.
They're only an extension of the male characters. Millie-Wife, Stella-Mean Wife, Octavia-Daughter, Loona-Abusive Adoptive Daughter, and every other woman is just a minor character but even then they have little relevance outside of who she's ben with like Verosicka the ex-girlfriend or Moxxie's mom.
@@tudoraragornofgreyscot8482 Not that she hates women, but she's bad at focusing on any character that isn't a "tumblr sexy man" with daddy issues and has everything orbit around that and nothing else. The fact that she's disinterested in the female characters is a side-effect of that fixation, it probably isn't cause she hates all women.
@@tudoraragornofgreyscot8482 She's more sexist than misogynistic, she isn't motivated by hate to women, she just has a preference to write male characters over female ones.
I still don’t understand how Crimson - a crime boss who was raised in the GREED RING and is entirely ruled with MONEY - didn’t check… that Chaz had… money…. WHYYYY
@@bugchaser7572 my guess is that Viv used him for a musical number. That’s it. Seriously, he serves no other purpose other than them realizing “oh shit there’s no musical-number in this “””””deeply-dark”””” episode, LETS MAKE AN OC JUST FOR THAT.” Also, I find it funny how Millie didn’t kill him at the end because… why? We’ve never seen Millie THAT ANGRY before, so leaving him and even Crimson alive (after what they did to Moxxie, no less) was just so out-of character. AND SHE BARELY HAS ANY.
@@bugchaser7572 in her Tweets, she outright confirms it. Which is so childish considering she was slamming the critics for not being “professional”??? You have no right 😂 God bless her heart when Hazbin Hotel comes out.
Can she not think of anything else? 😭 Not only that, Blitzo has daddy issues, stolas has daddy issues, Charlie has daddy issues, it's so stupid, it's the only traumatic thing at this point. Octavia!! Has daddy issues!! If Alastor has daddy issues I am quitting watching Hazbin hotel 🙃 it's so lazy. And also iffy that every gay or bi male character has daddy issues.
@@dougthealien Yeah also not to mention that the "imp fucking a higher up but caught feelings" is used twice as well, which is Stolas and Blitzo AND Fizzarolli and Asmodeus like bro huh
@@karentookthekids1267 oh my god I never noticed that somehow! don't understand this at this point. How she can just. Repeat the same thing over and over. It's actually a skill to manage to write the same plot over and over but just slightly different versions. Literally "can I copy your homework" "Sure just make it look a little different so it looks like you didn't copy" but it's the same person!! 💀
It genuinely rubs me the wrong way how Viz and her team characterize their characters based on their gender Male characters: Complete backstories, detailed descriptions of their trauma, how they handle their relationships, etc. Female characters: They're girls :)
Oh I remember a Twitter post about that how Helluva Boss is focused on boys, while Hazbin is about girls...and it is weird. Like come in if you write a show you treat all the characters equally.
Yeah, way to Rowling the narrative, Viv. 🤦♀️ I wish she was more secure in herself and would stop gaslighting her audience every time someone has a legit complaint about her or the show
They are really bad with criticism at this point. They just shield the plot holes and plot conveniences with excuses. like "you don't now how hard animation production is" or "you just don't get the show". What happened? You asked them if they have a continuity supervisor because there are a lot of plot holes or plot conveniences. She says "drama is her forte" but, honestly? It's not. A good writer pays attention to consistency, not only "oh, if I put this it will be so coooOOOOOoool hee hee".
the worst thing is that, considering her thread about critique was basically "I don't take it well because past nitpicks so f--k off with your points", I'm sure she doesn't listen to critique.
Even Mindy Kaling knew not to be a little whiny baby on Twitter when people were mad at her for the existence of Velma. And that doesn’t say much other than she knew she f**ked up. And Mindy Kaling is the same lady who was part of the writing team for The Office. Even a person who has received accolades for her work gets due BACKLASH for releasing a pile of contradictory shit as a “women-empowerment” show, that damaged the fandom so bad they couldn’t recover from it. So imagine Vivienne Medrano when she gets an oh so itty bitty criticism for Hazbin Hotel… I cannot imagine her whiny expletive-ridden Twitter posts making headlines, I almost feel second-hand embarrassment for someone who would gaslight everybody that she’s “mature” but can’t even act mature for a second.
It’s funny how through most of the episode, Millie is angry and wants to kill Chaz but when she finds out he’s part of a scheme to get Moxxie to forcibly marry him she doesn’t kill him even though she had the perfect opportunity to.
@@leomartz33Ellie had her reasons for not killing Abby; mainly that she's not Joel and that she's already lost everything in trying. Killing her wouldn't do anything. @@erikbihari3625 and what sucks is that, in the first season at least, Helluva Boss DID have some adult themes that it was handing pretty well! But season 2 just…doesn’t seem to know what made the first season so good, and it plows through all the plot points that people looked forward to

One thing that I keep harping on in regards to Crimson's stupid mob is that he'd realistically get whacked for killing his wife, considering the real Mafia is all about family - Moxxie would then rule alongside his wife. Also, I think her point with the Pride thing was that all sins are born from it, but unfortunately that limits the story possibilities because it boxes humans into one area. But I cannot wait for Ozzie's anticlimactic return.
I always thought it was because that's Lucifer's ring and he needs to be punished by those he deemed beneath himself as an angel, but it looks like I gave Vivian far too much credit. It's probably because she needs to keep the universe's separate; we can't have hazbin characters make actual cameos, because then she has to enter a licensing agreement with A24 and lose control of Helluva or not be able to use their resources.
@@NoirRaven The reason for having them restricted is to prevent other parts of hell becoming crowded and to make it easier to perform cleansings. Since all the mortal souls would just be in one area.
@@Acesspaded but that kind of restricts the story-telling/world-building, because there will obviously be characters who didn’t commit the sin of pride but maybe lust, greed, sloth, etc and yet, they’re just stuck in the pride ring. @@renee6504 they could've made hell's overpopulation a realm-wide problem honestly, make it so that sinners _can_ travel from ring to ring but there's barely a point since there's crowding everywhere, so most of them default to Pride or just stay there since it's the highest (and _maybe_ biggest?) ring
@@kn-jt9dj yeah, they could do that since we know that there is transportations that allow them (at least the imps) to travel from each ring. Though, that does beg the question of how many sinners do the angels really kill if it keeps being so overpopulated?
Controversial take, but why are people shitting on Velma's tiny dick jokes when Helluva is doing exactly that. Moxxie's abuse in the show is overall very uncalled for and just not funny... Moxxie deserves better than to be the damsel in distress. I honestly rolled my eyes when Millie slapped him on the ass spouting "this ass is mine". Initially, I thought Millie was the combative one and Moxxie the one with the guns, but nah. Millie is literally indestructible and it just adds more damage to her character. Also, can they stop the daddy issues trope already. Like, I thought you were screenwriters not fanfic writers
@@YourMom_._ True, the juvenile humor is often criticized in videos reviewing the show. I'm mostly talking about the fans. I keep getting video compilations recommended of scenes like Blitzo or Chaz with titles like: "Blitzo acting sexual for 10 min" or "Chaz being hot". Whereas the video compilations of Velma's characters acting juvenile have titles like "Velma being cringe". I might be looking too deep into it. There are other factors at play after all. It's just something I noticed personally.
realizing that sinners only go to pride actually made me upset with how confusing it was. Vivziepop's work is full of these little contrivances that make everything worse even though they could be fixed by removing them with literally one step, like what on earth would ever compel you to do that as a writing choice im gonna scream
If I had to make a guess of why it is that way, I would say it has to do with the fact that it is argued that, to an extent, pride is involved when it comes to committing the six other deadly sins.
Like the one episode where heeel-beeeely Millie makes a seventy foot tall monster her bitch while being thrown around like a rag doll but in the next one she can't even kill some punk ass Imp. Even though she got the drop on him AND stabbed him in the kidney. And HE knocked HER out by just hitting her into a wall There's no consistency to the durability OR endurance of the characters
This is what happens if you’re too ambitious with your project. You would keep including so much stuff into your projects which could lead to many inconsistencies with your projects. If anything, they could’ve taken notes from PREVIOUS EPISODES SO THAT COULDNT FORGET ALL OF THE LORE FROM SEASON 1.
Restricting the sinners to Pride definitely defeats the point of the rest of the rings existence. Now they feel like just flashy scenery with artistic changes than interesting and complex places with their own rules.
@@itsblitz4437?????? It's literally in season 2 with an indie team and due to Vivs meddling and blacklisting of her animators and nobody wanting to work with her, that's why most of her writing has been hit or miss with only focusing on the character fucking overspent animations.....😅😅

oh wait, Millie and her mom/sister talking about the killing contest would pass the Bechdel Test. Still, the fact it only happened twice speaks for itself.
So y’know s1e8 dropped and this is what Vivzie has to say when she actually called this episode a “part 2” to Ozzie’s… “Just a reminder 8 is very much spectacle.✨It was meant to be a big visual BANG with a simple story as a direct follow up to another episode. I REALLY hope everyone likes it but at this point that really is what it is. My biggest gripe with the show is how childish it really is. Not like "the idea is, people in Hell are petty and immature", which works. But I mean, the sense of humor. The dialogue. Helluva prides itself as a mature adult cartoon but everyone is about as mentally aged as a ten year old discovering their first swear word. And the villains...wow. this applies to Hazbin as well, but the villains are always MEGA stupid. I get evil is self destructive, but there is a point where it becomes ineffective. Satan worshipping serial killers are the targets of actual demons? Sacrifice them to....uhh...appease...the guy who may have ORDERED the hit on you? (He didn't that is besides the point). How did that govt agency get so much funding and personnel when no one believes in demons? Why is the Ruler of Lust, Asmodeus, shaming Stolas for BEING LUSTFUL? And he just bullies Blitzo too? Like mate, Blitz is a five time champion lust machine. He literally....he...fucking oes the thing you represent. Constantly. That doesn't make any sense! It's not even petty. It is just like...why? Here's a free one, Viv--how about instead of making Asmodeus a giant childish bully, and instead congratulate Blitz on landing yet another high profile fling? (Blitz dated Verosika who would become a famous model. This is not the first time.) Be like "Eyyyy it's my man, Blitz! This guy is a fuck machine, let me tell ya. With STOLAS? You mean the married rich Goetia guy with the hot wife and teen daughter? Niiiiice. Imma give you this song, on the house...." And it's like, his approval should be what fills Blitz and Stolas with shame. Not......flinging insults and making a spectacle the same way a schoolyard bully might.

It sucks that a lot of people overlook Viv's writing problems when it comes to certain types of characters just because she's a bi woman. If someone says that the writing for the female characters is sexist, a lot of people will argue "Well, the creator is a woman so it *can't be sexist"* Or if they say her writing for the queer male characters is pretty homophobic they'll also say "She's bi so her work *can't be homophobic."* Look I don't watch the show but a lot of video essay channels do have a point with its writing. The animation is great but the writing matters too if not more. People have to realize that someone can be something but can be offensive to it as well (intentional or not). I just wish that Viv actually took criticism as a tip for improvement instead of getting all passive-aggressive about it. It would be one thing if she was a teen making her first comic or idea but as a showrunner in her 30s, it just comes off as immature 😭.
I wouldn't say it's just because of this, but more because she's an independent creator on UA-cam and ppl are desperate for good rep, which can lead to overlooking issues.
Idk why Viv just cant say she likes writing male characters and focuses on them, "oh no ill get called a misogynist if i dont pretend i wanna write girls"
I wish she would. Honestly, I don't think there's anything wrong with having a preference for male characters, but to keep dancing around it and pretending she cares just as much about the female characters when she clearly doesn't is tiring and just sounds like she's making excuses. Just SAY you're more interested in the guys... some people will criticize you for it, yeah, but at least then that'll free you up to focus on what you really want and people will stop having the expectation that you'll eventually fix your underdeveloped female character problem.
Actually that fears kinda understandable. People in this very comment section have brought out the magical terms such as “internalized misogyny” when referring to Viv being shitty at writing female characters/not wanting to. But yeah if this is how her writing is gonna be then she just needs to honest with herself about it .
@@flat_brain1360 I mean, it kinda is. At this point it's not just a preference. I don't think she does it with malice, but it's definitely disrespectful. I agree by the way, she should just say she isn't interested in the female characters and write them out. Everyone would miss them, but having nothing is better than a having painful wasted potencials. Or the other option is hiring a writer who is more experienced in this ( have more care... ), but I doubt she would do that.
Would have worked if the female characters weren't supposed to be major influences in the male characters lives (Millie being Moxie's wife, Stella being Stolas' abusive ex-wife, Loona being Blitz adopted daughter and only family member he still has some connection with, Octavia being Stolas' daughter who seems greatly impacted by the relationship between her parents, Verosika is one of the reasons for Blitz's daily inner torment); but honestly at this point this would still be better than wasted expectations for character development.
Aside from the issues stated in the review, I’m really tired of them always having these cliffhangers of “ooooo they might come back at a later point for revenge” They’ve done it damn well near every episode, honestly he could’ve just killed Crimson, what threat does he even pose it Millie can just kill an horde of goons on her own What would he add later on in the story? We already gotta deal with Stella, Striker, ice peacock, etc. The fact I had to use “etc” is also a big issue because they’re just so many characters “potentially” running around in the background that could comeback at some point But so many would be style over substance, because the only ones who really affect the story is the Goetia + Striker - Also the “Oh don’t worry about this character’s lack of characterization, they’ll get an episode soon” Is so bad A character can be characterized through minor things, they don’t need a whole episode to get a slight bit of character Also if the leak is real and/or unchanged, Jesus fucking Christ

Also can't wait to hear your thoughts on the next episode if you do that one lol
If viv really did such a good job writing Millies character there wouldnt be a need for a tweet, and tweeting information that should be in the show itself is so bad not everyone is on twitter and follows her, I for one dont because I shouldnt hav to go on twitter or insta to get important info on the characters. All it shows is that she cant write characters and/or she doesnt put any thoughts on how she writes the story. Season 2 has really drag the series down.
What makes me... not really sad, kinda just... disappointed? The show was initially advertised as being about I.M.P, but slowly became this weirdly drama based show. I get it, people like the drama, but it feels weird when you see the pilot and how focused it was on the main characters and their job. If I were to rework this, I would make it primarily about I.M.P and have some (emphasis on SOME) episodes for exposition and character development. It just kinda feels like we're bouncing from drama to drama to filler to drama. These conflicts could work! I just think they'd work better if they felt more like separated arcs. I get it, it's a youtube series, but it has all of tis potential that it's just pumping out as quickly as possible rather than making a buildup... Maybe they could have gotten to the Greed ring because of a job? Not sure how, but it would be both about I.M.P. while making a setup for the conflict! Idk, I'm pretty much spitting up word vomit. This series just jumps from thing to thing so fast, it's hard to keep up with!
Back when both shows were just starting I knew that Hazbin would become this convoluted, directionless ball of lore and drama judging by its pilot but I never thought the same thing would happen to Helluva Boss. This should’ve stayed a lighthearted comedy with social commentary sprinkled in with banger jokes from Brandon Rogers so it could stand out more as it’s own thing. But it’s really just l showing us what a downward spiral Hazbin will inevitably become. Sadly, I believe both shows will regress into an incomprehensible mess of missed opportunity
@ChocoDoeEyes Exactly! At least with Hazbin Hotel, you can look at it and pretty much expect that. It's made space for all that exposition (Alastor, Charlie being literal royalty, the Addicted MV, etc.). The HB pilot felt more like a short you'd see on TV when you were a kid and stayed up long enough for Adult Swim to come on. If you told me a plot to one of the newer episodes and then the pilot without and hints of it being HB, I wouldn't believe you if you said they're from the same show.
Personally, I think HB should’ve modeled its humor like south park? Or other episodic adult cartoons. It would’ve made more sense, considering the setting being hell and the plot being about an assassination business. It’s become a plot driven show which was supposed to be Hazbins role. I do find what character development we do get pleasant, I just don’t think it should’ve been taken to this extent.
If the leak thing is real I am honestly sl disappointed. Obviously it was too late for millie to get her own episode, she has been badly introduced. VERY badly. But I at least though there was an actual good thing coming with her that would characterise her. But no, it actually stays the same. Also, if the leak is true, this so some edgy dramatic plot line and it makes no sense that vivz would preach that millie doesn't need something like that to have deaph. (The irony of her having the edgy story and still not having deaph would be immaculate)
The thing is, I think Millie's character could still be salvaged even if she was given so shallow of a character for the past season, but only if they use that shallowness to their advantage. Millie had always been portrayed as Moxie's happy, violent wife, and that's all. What if Millie was putting up a facade, to be the perfect wife for Moxie so she doesn't lose him because of some inferiority issues that can tie back to her family and being an imp. Maybe she can get very possessive (like in the episode) and doesn't want to lose Moxie, to lose one of the only people (maybe) that sees her as a person and not just a weapon or a nuisance. In the episode she will come to face with doubts and guilt that she doesn't really love Moxie that way she's showing it. It can add more depth to their relationship. Millie would then come to realize that by revolving her entire life around Moxie, she hasn't escaped the fact that people don't see her as her own person. Now she's seen as nothing but Moxie's wife on top of being upbeat and violent. Like, take advantage of the audience's perception. At least those are my thoughts on it ✌️
I think the reason for the "no sinners outside of pride" was more about keeping hazbin hotel and Hellava boss separate in case Vivzee ever got caught in some legalize copywrite shananagins
It still shit world-building, also someone needs to tell Vivzie that if they want to make a spin off don't create one around the same time as their first series because problems such as this will form.
I'm ngl, a lot of Vivzie's (male) gay characters feel like stereotypes rather than actual characters. Gay men deserve better representation, not characters that are just horny/cheating men. (The only good representation in the show is Moxxie imo). I know these characters have more to them than meets the eye but Blitz, Angel Dust, and Stolas feel like the same character, i.e being the hypersexual character with a tragic story.
It's genuinely like she's fetishizing gay/bi men. She can't have any of them who aren't sex obsessed and horny. The daddy issues and angst just seem included purely cause it adds fuel to her fetishes.
yeah but even Moxxie, when he's in a mlm relationship as seen with Chaz he looses all his character and became a bumbling hòrney idiot like that whole montage of them was far from how moxxie acts in a relationship heck him as a person? imp, thingy.
"People don't understand Millie like I do." That's a big problem, there. People could understand Millie like you do if you actually put all that into episodes. You can't be mad at your audience for not understanding your character when you don't give the audience anything to work with.
Exactly right. That's the entire point of writing -- to take the story in your head and communicate it with your audience. If people don't understand your character like you do, that means you've failed as a writer.
Viv stated in a recent tweet that her favorite joke in Exes and Oohs was that immature dildo joke right after Crim threatens Moxxie. That would explain the emotional whiplashing and inconsistent writing in season 2.
Wow, so she really is an immature mor0n. 😐 Disappointing. And all these yes men/women that are helping her in destroying her own world. Everything "because money" I suppose. 🤦♂️
4:22 THANK YOU for actually pointing this out. Why is literally every queer man in Viv's work hypersexualized and inappropriate towards other characters? I would say Moxxie is an exception but when they explore his past relationship with a *man,* they make him act similar to the other queer male characters. I'm not saying all of them have to be saints but when your majority of non-hetero men are depicted like this, it's pretty gross in terms of outdated gay stereotypes. And the "but it's hell" argument doesn't work here as other relationships such as Chaggie and MoxMil (that involves a man of one or none) are pretty healthy and are good people outside of their relationship too.
I wish Helluva/Viv would get called out more for the depiction of Gay/Bi/Pan men. I used to be friends with girls who'd have a fixation on insinuating all men attracted to men are slutty and DTF every thing. It's very fetishistic and as a gay guy it really felt insulting and demeaning. It's a shame that this is one of the very few series currently running with a large gay/bi/pan male cast... and every character has the same exact "self-destructive, slutty bad boy" (usually with daddy issues) personality. It's like "Tumblr Sexy Men the series." This episode was off the charts with it. It's also funny cause they'd also happily devalue the female characters they wrote about too, just like Viv. Like, their hyperfixation on gays/gay sex that makes them find women boring and less interesting. Also this episode might be the worst in terms of logic fails. Why'd Chaz think up this plan? He doesn't even like Moxxie enough to check on him over the course of years. He knows the dad kills disobedient family members (he killed his own wife). Dad doesn't like Moxxie or Chaz, so why does he not check to see if Chaz is actually rich? And I know the logic fails will be met with, "He's supposed to be stupid!" is Moxxie's dad supposed to be stupid too? He allowed Blitz and Millie to tag along for no reason and went off Chaz's word that he was rich, but the implication is just "don't mind that he's doing dumb counterproductive things, he's evil and threatening and kills people!"
@Pumpkinmaster56 I’m not a big fan of how season 2 is going so far, so I guess it could apply that it’s “not for me.” But I’ve been actively engaged in this since season 1 and I want to know what on earth the whole of season 2 is like. I don’t understand why not liking the direction of the show so far means not to watch it when watching it is something I want to do.
No because, I AGREE- I've said this a couple of times before, but this type of "representation" only does more harm than good, and just reminds me of the comic Webtoon "Boyfriends" with the whole gay fetishizing. I'm not a man, but it bothers me to see most of the male pairings in this show as toxic and horny for a "funny" gag when this is exactly why people are homophobic; they think being LGBTQ is nothing but sex. It would've been so great to get an original same pairing couple that was developed and actually healthy and gives the community something to feel good about... I can't speak for everyone, but this is what I mainly feel about this show :7
I find it laughable that viz knows a character doesn’t have to have trauma to have depth yet the only way she’s added superficial depth is by giving characters trauma
I mean.... that arguably applies with other content creators that write ocs. It's common to write depth in characters is by adding in trauma to explain why it happens I'm not trying to start a fit or argument about this. I'm just curious on how you can write character depth without trauma at all
@@petthepirate3115 you don’t need trauma to create a deep and interesting character, just writing a character that learns and grows and isn’t superficial can help make a character have depth. Trauma can be used to create depth, Bojack Horseman is a good example, but with helluva boss a lot of it is superficial
@@weebeegeenov3634 THIS. I see so many oc creators giving their characters trauma and while there’s nothing wrong with that if executed well, I just think it’s a bit stale and a cheap way to try and make a character more interesting, at least most of the time that is.
My main problem with Viz's writing is the same with a lot of other creators like her She clearly only wants to write her gay twink man which is fine The problem comes in when she pretends she has any plan to develop the females I feel like if she was open and was like y'all know what these shows are then a lot less people would complain
Viv’s refusal of criticism and constantly painting, herself as the victim, and anybody who dares even criticize the show gets harassed by the fans alarms me to no end
@@YourMom_._ i love cartoonshi because i’m genuinely tired of people that just continue to be kiss asses and ignore problems and flaws that popular shows have. they’re just mad that he calls the flaws out.
If that leak is real.. Viv should be embarrassed of herself. In the end that episode is still about her being Moxxies wife!!! It'll be both hilarious and so even more disappointing than what the show already is. No high hopes for Hazbin Hotel
Just imagine how it would go. Oh Millie is sad because some twitter guy said she's not good enough and at the end it would just turn into a gag about them loving eachother and having sex.. great message about not killing yourself
@@antonizchomp2752 Right? It really comes off as a Take That against fans complaining that she's become an accessory for another character by saying, "Look at what you said to poor Millie. Now she's going to KILL HERSELF cause YOU destroyed her self-esteem!" Rather than working on actually fixing her character.
@@alexgomez6723 While it might not be 100% proven, it was recently stated by Viv herself that this season will have 12 episodes. The leak, which came out months ago, also had info on the 12th episode and said it would be the season finale. So unfortunately there's already at least one semi-important detail that turned out to be legit
I pray that the leak isn’t true. Because not only is it very out of character, like I’ve never seen her be upset with the fact she’s a rough neck, but because it trivializes suicide. As someone who’s been through it myself, the leak gave me so much anxiety and people will try and to romanticize the scene. Not only that, but if they just drop the scene and pretend that Millie will be okay right after… I’ll quit the show. Suicide should never be used as a set piece. It’s a REAL issue that needs to be taken with the utmost seriousness.
Vivzie has a track record of trivialising serious subject matter. Such as LGBTQ+ discrimination, and her work is LOADED, utterly LOADED with harmful LGBTQ+ stereotypes. Like the hypersexuality and lack of standards. Vivzie is about as progressive as Friends or any other 90's predominantly straight, white TV sitcom - where unless you're a straight white man, you're a stereotype.
As someone who knows a person who is suicidal and it seriously messed them up them mentally, no, I don't want to see it treated like a romanticized spicy character development at all. I lived in fear knowing they can end their life at any moment.
As someone who actually contemplated it, just for literal internal conflict between two different voices in my head to save me from managing to go through with it, and deciding to bring myself to talk to a school counsellor. and have seen and heard one too many cases of kids attempting it, my friends, close friends, and losing a few from it, a batchmate and a junior … at my school in a span of 4 years. You could say I learned about suicide in a very hard way. It isn’t a spicy character development plot device. If you bring such a topic into anything, you have to treat it, no, You have the utmost responsibility to treat this subject matter with utmost sincerity and care. No joking at all, no distracting us from it. There are people who lost their loved ones from it.
(And the worst part is that the suicide threat that is used to “develop” Millie, is only propelling the one key point we all know since the pilot in 2019 … “Millie is a good wife”. Because the suicide threat was made on the very basis that “Millie is not a good wife”.)
Ohooo, as a bi dude, you have opened my eyes to the fact that almost all the gay rep in this show is oversexualised to hell (pun not intended). But there’s another thing I noticed, all of them also. Have. Daddy. Issues. Like oh my god. Firstly, viv make another tragic backstory challenge? Secondly, I have a homophobic religious mother and one thing she’d absolutely say is “oh people are gay because of lack of father” or something stupid. But the fact that viv made every main gay character have the same daddy issues makes me so goddamn angry, its not only just bad writing, but it’s such an awful decision to make every bi and gay guy have daddy issues especially ON TOP OF being hypersexual. I’m so disappointed, why can’t we just be depicted as normal. Like I know it’s hell and everything but relationships are depicted normally!! Like Charlie and vaggie and of course moxie and Millie. But when it comes to the gay characters doing gay things it’s just, sex jokes haha 🙂 daddy issues. Also I swear I hope that leak is fake. I will stop watching if it’s true. Because if it is. That’s once again, being tied to moxie. Her episode that’s supposed to give her more character and independence, is of course her trying to be moxies wife. And killing herself????? Are you SERIOUS? She is the most confident character in the entire show and now suddenly she has self doubt issues? And not even about negative traits. It’s literally “boo hoo I’m just, strong I’m going to die” ???? That’s literally like viv saying “look at all the criticism you gave her!!! And now she wants to die because of it!!! Pity her!!! Feel bad for what you’ve said!!” Instead of giving her depth she’s literally trying to guilt trip her audience into feeling bad about calling her a 2D strong female character because now suddenly she wants to die because of those things!! So yeah, that better be fake. Because I swear to god I give up on this show if it’s true, and on viz.
@@grimp_9 🫠 I am soo done. It's so manipulative! Instead of giving her character she's going down the route of doing nothing with her but making people feel bad for criticising her blandness. She's still going to be Moxie's wife and nothing more 🙃
The tweet of the Millie defense is real. As for the leak I had no fucking Idea thats been floating around and have no idea yet if its real, but yikes either way whoever came up with that.
I'm so glad someone finally mentioned it. I hate how the lore of Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss have the sinners only in the Pride ring. You could do so much with the other rings, why have them if they're only on the top layer??
I don't believe we'll ever get a Millie episode because I don't think we will get a season three because people are starting to lose interest and get annoyed with Viv. She can't take criticism and she keeps acting like the victim when anyone makes any critiques about her work
That's because she's one of THOSE joyful individuals who surround themselves with an echo chamber of empty headed yes men who rabidly attack anyone who criticizes her
Appearently there gonna be a Sallie may episode so she might finally get something there but it's not like it would invalidate the criticisms so far its already season 2 cx
I remember when a user named moon bunnies made a video just simply stating its a little annoying how viv keeps saying things are coming soon and then just leaves it ambiguous for a long time, they didn't say viv was doing a bad job at the show nor criticizing it, just wanted more updates. Just a mini rant basically but not like an attack or anything. Then viv comes in the comment section and is like "You don't know anything! We're working hard!" I understand the pressure and stress of working on a popular series, and sometimes you get annoyed with constant backlash and all, I really do, but viv really has to take time off the internet if she can't handle non criticism and just some random UA-camr venting about a series they like. And not to disrespect Viv, I’m more concerned.
The female characters aren't given backstories and their whole motivations revolve around the male characters. And also the way the gay male characters are portrayed on both of her shows is...I don't have the words idk
Vivs inconsistencies with her writing is really nothing new unfortunately. As someone who’s followed her older content to her previous content from 2015 to 2020, it’s enough to say that her writing skills haven’t gotten any better from her Zoophobia days. Just in case no one recalls, Zoophobia was Vivs webcomic that she eventually cancelled due to her just losing motivation in continuing it if I remember correctly, correct me if I’m wrong. The story “supposingly” followed a young woman named Cameron with a huge case of Zoophobia and is sent to a strange yet supernatural world of animals and shapeshifters and many strange creatures alike. While the art was indeed beautiful, the writing itself was just a mashed up mess that barely had a plot. Unfortunately to say not in a rude way, but her writing style has always been more on the surface level than most and never made any sense why I had to have remorse on this character or that character even though they’ve literally showed themselves to be painfully unlikable. I’ve tried to get into her stuff I really did many times before but her way of executing characters and world building just never did it for me. And I’m not kidding when I say that Stolas was the sole reason why I stopped watching the show to begin with, he’s just not a good a character, he makes me really uncomfortable with how he’s written and it makes even worse when the writers themselves don’t want to acknowledge his toxic behavior and how it affects his daughter but try to make him look like the lesser evil by giving him a wife that’s a one note villain. But with enough said, as much as I respect Viv and her crew. A lot of things in this show really need a major change when it comes to writing consistency.
Why do you all feel the need to respect Vivziepop and her team? She's just an @sshole that treat her fandom in a sh1tty way. We can be respectful in speaking of her without insulting her, but honestly she's a liar, a coward and she gaslight the audience.. I can be moderate, but I don't think it's necessary to be so soft with her or to her team at all. They're just a bunch of snowflakes that aren't able to take criticism and use a brainless fanbase to defending themselves.
"Is any of this going to be explained? Like I feel like we have a lot of setups but very little time to address any of it" You just summed up the single biggest issue with every vivziepop property lmao
The new episode was so hard to sit through 💀. Millie finally gets the spot light but Moxxie is humiliated at every turn. Blitz’s story of finding Barbie looked way more interesting and should’ve been the forefront of the episode because we’ve been waiting so long to meet Blitz’s sister as there relationship has been hinted at for a while now. The musical numbers were really bad too. Also Moxxie acted really out of character this whole episode. He’s supposed to be the serious one of the group and he’s acting all whiny over Millie getting more attention??? Also Millie says to Moxxie that she’s always wanted to be taken seriously. Uh where did that insecurity come form??? Idk man this episode is the worst by far in my opinion.
I may be being hasty but I think this was Vivziepop trying to respond to criticism of Millie, if that's indeed the case she made the situation a lot worse
It wasn't at every turn but he was humiliated quite a bit. I mean I dunno it works well as is. Nah they were pretty good. Not really, he was pretty annoyed and it was understandable really. Well with how everyone else is treating him yes. Well no one really praises her aside from her killing skills so...yeah. I personally disagree, I thought it was good but ok then.
By this point, it feels like the only thing in this show that draws people to it is the LGBT+ representation. That consists only/mainly of MLM representation. That isn't even very good... Stolas and Blitzo are not a healthy relationship, and it could be written interestingly if the show actually adresses the weirdness of it, this inherent power inbalance and how this isn't good for either party- But instead, they want to frame it as "Oh, cute romance!" The fandom calling every criticizer "homophobic" gives me heavy fujoshi vibes.
Everything about this show gives me heavy fujoshi vibes. The way the females have such shallow roles especially. They're either there to make a guy look hurt/sympathetic/sensitive (Moxxie's Mom, Octavia, Loona all exist to soften up the male leads), be sideline supportive (Millie, its her only trait besides being violent), or be a raging b|tch to make the guys look better comparatively (Stella, nuff said). The fact that every single male character is outrageously horny to the point of bordering on rap|st territory (the fact that Blitz is voyeristically trying to get involved with non-consenting employees) is really fujoshi in the worst way. And the way the relationships between the guys is just interchangeably shallow angst/sex... it's doing nothing to make them seem like actual romance and not just "this is what the author finds hot."
@@Nightman221k uve literally outlined every problem ive had w the show lmao, it just feels like almost every female character is defined by her relationship to men and not much else
And, the only healthy couples are rlly Charlie and Vaggie, Millie and Moxie... You could just tell that the girls are viewed as more loving and soft, and more desired to love and have a relationship then the men do in this show... *You could just tell* what they rlly want
Viv, Thomas Astruc, and Miles and Kerry being on the same boat abt not being able to handle any criticism of any kind whilst having this mentality negatively affect their shows shld not be a thing thats normalized amongst writers
I think was bugs me the most about Helluva/Hazbin is a lot of the aesthetic is "costumes of things the crew kinda sorta likes". Like, the way Moxxie's dad was written felt like a Spirit Halloween party costume of what a real mafia boss with some slang from google thrown in. The same with Angel Dust being what a teenager thinks how a pornstar is supposed to act, even things like the character design/costuming feel's like the Party City Halloween clearance bin, rather than the time period they were supposed to be apart of (Alastor, Niffty, Valento, etc.) Plus not to mention, it's sooo telling that background characters (namely male characters) have WAY more depth than any female character - we know more about Chaz's backstory than Charlie or Vaggie from Hazbin the MAIN characters omg
I think the main problem is what Just Stop said. “Over ambition”. It should have been this. A comedy with episodic episodes with some hints on a bit more complexity of the characters, have just 3 main antagonist (that being Striker, Mayday, and Frizz), have small but good arcs on the main four and then Stolas in the halfway point, bring back Mayday and Ohio guy to have a romantic arc, and that’s it. It’s a little bit hard but hell of a lot less harder than having 6 antagonist and loosing sight of the show as a whole
Y'know, if sinners were allowed to migrate to other rings of hell, it would solve all the alleged overpopulation issues. But since sinners are restricted to the Pride ring, it makes the other rings redundant. Also also, since this is the afterlife and in a different plane of existence, you'd think there'd be enough space for everyone.
What drives me crazy about that Twitter thread, is that not only is Viv lying throughout it, she actually _admits_ she had no idea where Helluva was going to go passed season one; like it doesn't show?! 🤦♀️ It reminds me of when she (pathetically) declared the insta's weren't canon, only to canonize them in season two. Why does she keep trying to gaslight her audience? It's only making her look more guilty and, unfortunately, lends credence to those who've spoken out against her. (I.E. burned ex employees who we should've trusted more than those who are currently benefitting from being associated with Viv.) Edit after new episode dropped: wow, yeah, no, I'm done with this show and I think Hezu should be too. They're literally not trying anymore.
It’s so bizarre that Viv’s open and unashamed in professionalism is praised by fans when I know any other cartoon created have been roasted for far worse. I guess they don’t lovebomb their fans every week.
I unsubscribed from her channel years ago, because she was getting this "fame" and I just liked her old content when she was doing her Speedpaints which I thought were unique... Now I feel like she's going down a bad path with what she's doing and tweeting :7
She's been like this since her Zoophobia days so I'm not surprised on her not planning things, keeping things consistent within a narrative and of course not handling criticism in a professional way. It's a damn shame really. I used to really like her stuff and was even inspired by her work for a bit. Even when Helluva and the Hazbin pilot came out, I was still interested and wanted to root for her even though I knew how she acted towards her fans but then as time went on, I started to really see that it was not only her but also some of the people that work for her. It just really threw me off and made me want to distance myself especially since her rapid fanbase can get very toxic and coddled when it comes to criticism.
She wants to be the victim whom could never do something wrong and if there's dirt on her name it's someone else's fault... apparently including the friggin audience
@@Madjichen please don't remind me Zoophobia's demise UmU i miss that comic. She started redrawing the comic for some reason, and the redesigns looked so off, specially *Zech* (my personal fav). Like yeah she started adding a lot of details, but said details oversaturated the pages and made them unpleasant to read. Then the new short happened, and damn, wasn't Zoophobia about *Cameron* (my other personal fav)? Like, the whole thing is named after _her own phobia._ The actual plot was (originally) written around her. But heh, asking Vivzie about how she writes is just getting into a path of confussion.
The thing that pisses me off about how Blitzo and Moxie met is that it also contradicts what we previously know in Truth Seekers. It’s implied that Moxie came to Blitzo about the job, went through some training, and Blitzo was so impressed that he hired him right then in there and supposedly that’s how they met. But the prison scene makes things way more complicated than it already is.
Charlie is the troubled business owner whose father doesn't believe in and the world rejects her for her ideals calling her silly and not taking her seriously sound familiar?
This creator clearly cares more for the men cuz she lusts after them, and the women (particularly the MC) are either extras or self-inserts so of course they get about as much to them as Bella Swam or Anastasia Steele.
My high school best friend was like that, heavily fetishizing gay/bi men as being promiscuous and she'd write fanfics where all the men had "sexy" traits like being angsty and horny and violent. It reminds me of this show so much cause it's the same way. The woobie girl character to soften up the bad boy (Loona and Octavia), a shallow sidelined cheerleader character (Millie), and the devious homophobic she-beast (Stella) were as best as you could expect for a female presence. It was awkward being a gay guy and seeing what kind of messed up views she had of people like me (part of the reason I stopped being her friend).
@@Schjiro surely she created the show but she isn't really writing the episodes anymore, you can notice this from the DRASTIC writing changes. Not defending her or anything, idrc about her, just stating something.

Hez: why is there a jail in hell? It doesn't make sense! Me: Vivzie world builds around a punch line, the only government in hell is for the sake of comedy. Not particularly *good* comedy, mind, but that's her rationale. Granted, that's being generous; more likely she doesn't have an AD checking every episode for continuity errors, bc she can't, bc she's making this shit up as she goes.

I have so many more thoughts that I can't quite put into words. The worst thing a show can do is make you think you'll like it only to leave you feeling nothing, I've had so many shows do this to me as of recent and it's just so disappointing.
9:31 thank you for saying this honestly viv sucks at world building hell doesn’t even feel like hell it just feels like a more than a more demonic version of earth
Thank you for covering all of the plot holes and inconsistencies of this show. And thank you for going over how the female characters in Helluva Boss don’t have any focus or anything important or impactful in this show.
You know a lot of issues with Millie could have been fixed if she and Moxxi weren't already married. Have her be introduced during season 1 or in season 2 and have her start her relationship with Moxxi. Maybe she's a new hire to IMP and this would let them write episodes for a while without her, and then when she does come in you get to not only see how her relationship with Moxxi starts but also you inherently get a proper introduction to her.
Devils advocate for Viv: The character wikis got their info from art and QnA streams said streams featured the male VAs way more than the female ones, hence why the conversation would always steer towards talking about the male characters and then after the info was out and about Viv would confirm or deny it's authenticity and regardless of relevance it was put on the wiki anyway. The comics can then be explained via feed back loop (male characters get featured> demand for said male characters increases> male characters get featured) there was just way more demand for content featuring the male characters and since the monetization of both shows relies on the popularity of its characters for merch sales they have to bank on that popularity by doubling down on an already popular one, it's also less risky to focus on what's already popular rather than trying to spread focus among all characters. But even if there's somewhat of a reason behind how it all snowballed into this that still doesn't make it right.
Why would anyone with a professional background like her use wiki? Then she complains why her sources are incorrect. Why can't she create her own website for her own sources? This is so unprofessional.

@@platinumg.8614 Fr, and seeing how Viv doesn't seemingly know what to do with what Ozzie's established, or the remnants of it, it could have near no time at all or just forgotten. We saw the sneak peek in the 2023 trailer but I dunno. Would be a shame, he looked so worried about Fizz after Millie stomped on him, they did a lil cuddle, and in that trailer iirc he was reading a newspaper that called out his hypocrisy as the topic and I think Fizz was also in his room
Also this episode is the one that made me decide to drop this show entirely. Won't watch anymore of this crap. S1 was good, but this season has been a complete disaster.
Welp i never noticed how sexist is Vivzie at writing women. i just noticed 'cause this video how she just focuses in male writing. All women are written around males. Women in her shows have no much to do nor represent that much. They're just the sexy thing to attract eyes. This might explain the odd daddy issues writing too, all episodes in S2 has been written around daddy issues.
@@miserirken She's sexist writing men too. Why is almost every male a tumblr sexyman? Every male who isn't a mean father figure (cause she's beat that trope to death) is written to be a dumb, self-destructive man-whore. I'd say female characters still get it worse, cause at least the men get to be characters (rather than shallow extensions of the males), but what the male characters get isn't exactly a broad spectrum of characters and just a bunch of the same stock character traits in a different character design. And even then the character designs are all just the same lanky, edgy tumblr sexy man body-type with similar attire.
Right, the writing is just iffy in general. Even if they do have more female centric episodes, that's gonna be great but at the state of the show right now it'll still be iffy, hope I'm proved wrong but HB is not worth it no more.
i think the main problem that causes all the other ones is the lack of direction. They want to do everything: drama, comedy, romance etc. And its not possible when viv has 8 episodes per season. She needs to chose a storyline and stick to it.
She could work ALL of them together quite easily if she was actually a competent writer and didn't waste so much time indulging her disgusting abuse fetish
I believe having a story more focused on the male or female lead instead of both is very limiting to the potential of the story. It's very similar to how popular Shonen Mangas, mainly Naruto put more focus and development on the male characters instead of the female characters, leading to the female audience drawing away from it. Also, Alastor and Angel Dust have more backstory and development to their characters compared to Niffty, Vaggie, Cherri Bomb, and even Charlie to an extent. There's no way in hell Viv would give two of her most developed characters the same treatment she gave Millie.
While I obviously agree that having the focus on both the male and female leads is far more interesting, The key difference is that Shounen Manga was made for young males in the first place, whereas Helluva is actively isolating part of its core audience while trying to distract them from it with Tumblr Sexy Men. _/NM /LH_
@@Pro-Diletante Honestly, agreed. I've kept watching in the hopes that this show gets better, but it's just not really improving all that much, which I find to be very saddening when it had so much potential in the beginning. Also, I like your profile picture, it's very cute❤️
The biggest problem with viv is her over ambition like hazbin isn’t even out yet, and she already released a spinoff and gave us way too much over information about the cast and this was a problem in her’s Zoophobia days as well in Zoophobia there is too many characters and and the lore all over the place with too many characters and storylines to the point where a person like me who is planning on rewriting zoophobia needs to cut out some storylines and characters in order for the story to make sense
This show reeks of millennial mlm fetishization, literally so many tropes are present. Long lost childhood friends, every single guy is bi/pan, a wife or girlfriend is demonized for being ‘in the way’ of the mlm relationship, female characters are underdeveloped, all men are sexual and twinkish, idk how to put the other shit in words but there’s more 😑
Fun fact: Helluva doesn’t even pass the Bechdel test, which is the bare minimum. It’s a sad indication of the series feelings towards it’s female characters.
I love just how done you look in this video. Your avatar was hilarious. 😁 Viv is not a good storyteller. She has interesting ideas but making it all come together is a serious issue. I like the idea of the imps and hell hounds being second class citizens that have to scrape at the bottom. But NOTHING is done with that. They don't explore the struggle. They don't make the characters overcome anything and make it satisfying. We don't get a scene where Blizto is like "see all you rich and powerful demons. We can do it too!" There's no interesting arc there. I like the idea of the book that can take you to the human world. But we don't even get to see them go to any interesting countries. We're literally just stuck in America. And all they do is kill people, which isnt as fun as they think it is. I also like the idea of Moxxie and Millie being slightly more virtuous than the other imps but nothing is done with that either. All we get is one song where Moxxie says, "I like us just the way we are." It would be cool to explore what it's like to be a nice imp in a world full of savages but they don't explore that. Viv puts all the least interesting things in her story front and centre but then when it comes to the things that would make the characters more interesting and give them better struggles, she hides it!!!
Now that I think about it you're right. Whenever they do go up to the human realm they appear in America/ The U.S. I feel like it'd be pretty interesting for them to go to other countries around the world and explore new places while doing their jobs which is killing their targets. But you know it probably won't happen or who knows.
17:58 the reason moxxies crying was silent is because in abusive households, sadly children often learn at a young age to cry silently so they dont get in anymore trouble but i totally agree with everything else u said
This is why I cannot get super invested in this show. The writing and world building is all over the place. It has potential that is squandered by the writing and sometimes over-the-top designs and hit-or-miss humor.
Helluva Boss should really start lowering their list of antagonists as besides Striker,Stella, and Andrelphous, most of them don't seem like characters that should last for the long run especially the agents and crimson who should've been killed in their first appearance.
Even the thread about Millie is barely about Millie and offers basically zero insights... Enough already! I WANT to love her, but I NEED to KNOW her first!!
The tonal whiplash between the tragic and legitimately threatening presence of Crimson with the shitton of gay jokes (which I understand is meant to mock homophobia) just rubs me the wrong way. Like I understand that this show is a dark comedy, but for whatever reason it feels so unfair that Moxxie's trauma supersede by inappropriate jokes yet Blitz relationship issues with Stoliz is often times given room to breath. I also wish Chaz actually was rich just to have Blitz be wrong for once. It always seems like he's never allowed to be truly in the wrong about anything at all and gets the final word.
God, I'm SICK of everyone treating Mox like a toilet. It's even worse when one considers that Vivz puts the guy through a 'he learns to stick up for himself' in almost EVERY episode yet completely forgets it EVERY SINGLE FUCKING TIME immediately after the scene is over
@@T_E_G Literally not at all, so I really don't get the joke they keep going for. I guess, calling someone something they're not? That's the joke? I don't know :/

Yaaay, Good to see you again. Ive been missing my fix for actual good reviews that aren’t just hateful complaining or saying lame jokes thinking it will be entertaining
the whole issue with millie's character now is that they're just adding stuff that doesn't need to be added, like in the newest episode she goes on a rant about how she "finally feels important", but... when has she ever expressed to anyone that she was starting to feel less important? and now with the leaked episode concept of the big bad making her want to end herself for "not being a good enough wife"... when has she ever expressed that? it seems like the only way they can give moxxie and millie even a sliver of character growth and depth in their relationship is if they butcher their characters into something they're not. the worldbuilding of helluva is honestly so confusing and makes me worried for hazbin. i hate to say it but it seems like vivzie is falling back into her old writing habits of putting in way to many characters and not adding much depth to them, much like with zoophobia. think about it, at first we only had the original IMP gang plus stolas and some one off humans that die every episode, now, we have: verosica mayday, the D.O.R.Ks, the cherubs, stella, octavia, andrelphis, ozzie, bee, vortex, moxxie's dad, fizzoroli, barbie wire, and striker. the cast is super bloated and we still have more characters to come!
I sat here groaning over these points right along with Hezu to the point where I am now super charged to go back and rewrite every single female character I've written for a DND campaign I'm writing
Hell, I'm thinking of rewriting my all of my comic's scripts now I should establish there personalities early on and later I should deviate those personalities showing the audience that something is wrong and explain why there acting different and then I should have them grow from that slowly rising up from there problems they had early on and not have there personalities constantly shifting.
Gotta say, as a Catholic woman, Viv's interpretation if Hell (and Christianity in general) has certainly been... interesting to watch. In all seriousness, I'm fine with writers taking SOME creative liberties when it comes to religion, but not to the point where the source material is completely unrecognizable! Not to mention, judging by the Hazbin Hotel trailer, Viv's take on Christianity is oddly mean-spirited? Like, I get it, some people were never raised with religion in the household or they had a rough history with different religions groups in the past, but that's no excuse to borderline discriminate against an entire group. She is quite literally biting the hand that feeds her content (Christianity), and I don't think that's the smartest move to make as a writer/artist.
And yeah, I agree with you as well. Viv’s take on Christianity and the concept of heaven makes Charlie’s motivation even more meaningless. Because if we go by the logic of her version of Christianity, what’s the point of getting someone to Heaven when you’re gonna be constantly live to feel like you must not sin and not to mention when a Hell citizen gets to Heaven, they’re not gonna have an easier life due to the discrimination from the Heaven citizens. I know the series hasn’t come out yet, but i predict the ending that Charlie will learn that they don’t need to make sinners go to Heaven and that she’ll flip the Heaven system off, rebel with a middle finger, and celebrate Hell and glorify it. I hope I’m wrong tho
Barely practicing Catholic queer woman here. I feel the same. Christian theology has so much works inspired from it. And even surface level research can bring you farther than the Hell Vivzie established. One of my strong gripe is Adam. For what Lilith and Lucifer did, Adam, if he was just sent to Heaven being the first man, then wouldn't he be treated harshly for all time by all the other angels for what he did, following how Vivzie views heaven? Where is Eve in all this? It's cool to imagine Adam and Eve equally running the extermination as their personal revenge towards Lilith and Lucifer for what they have to deal with for all of eternity: being pariahs in Heaven for the ones who ate the fruit of the tree of knowledge. Charlie's hotel falls flat too when Purgatory exists. Purgatory should be teeming with sinners who could be redeemed. It could have been more interesting if say, Purgatory did exist as a previous hotel Lucifer made to cleanse redeemable sinners. Only for Heaven to suddenly not accept redeemable sinners and lump them instead with the monsters who deserve hell. And with sinners finding no chance in redemption, they succumb to Hell and its chaos. Lucifer gives up on the project and this serves as an explanation as to why Charlie wants to run Hazbin Hotel. But even then...how old is Charlie and why is she so oblivious to the affairs of sinners? And even then, Im confused why sinners are simply in the Pride ring. Clearly, Vivzie just yanked the 9 rings of Hell from Dante, not caring that sinners are scattered across the rings. Extermination aside, hell has its own torture methods per sin. Im not well versed with Christian theology. I don't claim to be. Just really disappointed cuz Hazbin could have been better with the message they seem to want to deliver (people could change if people give them a chance). They are critiquing the concept of Heaven while giving a surface-level world. There are many media loosely inspired on Heaven and Hell like Panty & Stocking. But their simple world is set on earth, and its simply a show of angels killing monsters to buy their way to Heaven - so you really shouldnt even think and just have fun with the story.
I think Vivzie's issue is that she's not a storyteller but a conceptualist; she can come up with a ton of ideas for characters and worlds but has difficulty creating a cohesive narrative. This is most evident in her work: the uneven tone, constant retcons and inconsistencies, the fact that she relates lore information through live-streams, tweets, Instagram posts and other sources instead of the actual pilot/show (I wasn't even aware that Charlie and Vaggie were a couple until I read it on the official wiki). And, of course, there are the recycled character personality traits, designs and backstories.

Am I the only one that looks at Helluva Boss and gets very concerned on how Hazbin Hotel is going to turn out? Cause man, HB's writing does not give me any faith in HH's. Especially since backstories get retconned, characterizations/relationships change based on what the fanbase wants, poor balancing of jokes and seriousness, and episodes that had premises clearly meant for a specific character are instead given to another character (like the episode where you meet Millie's family should have been a Millie episode and the episode where Octavia ran away should have been an Octavia episode). Like the Harvest Moon Festival episode would have been the perfect episode to dive into Millie's character early on and answer at least some of the questions you asked. I def can see wanting Millie and Moxxie's backstory on how they met, fell in love, and got married for its own episode later on though (like maybe they get into a huge argument and its framed as them telling the story separately when the others asked how they got together in the first place). Also oof on that episode leak. Nothing says "this character isn't just this guy's wife" more than...that.

Or is it a reason for the overpopulation????
Yeah, I had a problem with it too. It doesn't really make any sense. She should have gotten rid of the 7 rings and just make one hell but smaller. That way, Angels killing demons would be more significant and emotionally heart breaking. A tragedy.

I'm guessing it was first advertised as assassin's of hell but since they didn't get as much money because when you hate someone in hell you can just do it yourself so blitzo got the idea to get the book from stolas to rebrand his company as assassins you can hire to kill a human you hate

Hezu was saying, "Why would being gay be something an imp would need to cover up with a beard?" It's overwhelmingly normalized for the residents of Hell through plenty of characters with status being LGBT.
Glad to know I ain't the only one who felt the dildos joke, ruined the tone of that scene with Moxxie and his dad lol It can be funny for others, but for me it ruined the serious tone of the scene... Also Blitzo's reasoning for looking into Chaz's stuff was pretty dumb.
Because velma ruined scooby doo so putting jokes like that obiusly would make the fans angry, helluva boss ruins itself so nobody is angry

@cartoonistlouis773 Warner canceled several Scooby Doo projects. Don't underestimate how a bad installment and poor management can ruin a franchise.
realizing that sinners only go to pride actually made me upset with how confusing it was.
And HE knocked HER out by just hitting her into a wall
There's no consistency to the durability OR endurance of the characters
This is what happens if you’re too ambitious with your project. You would keep including so much stuff into your projects which could lead to many inconsistencies with your projects. If anything, they could’ve taken notes from PREVIOUS EPISODES SO THAT COULDNT FORGET ALL OF THE LORE FROM SEASON 1.
Restricting the sinners to Pride definitely defeats the point of the rest of the rings existence. Now they feel like just flashy scenery with artistic changes than interesting and complex places with their own rules.

Niiiiice. Imma give you this song, on the house...."
And it's like, his approval should be what fills Blitz and Stolas with shame. Not......flinging insults and making a spectacle the same way a schoolyard bully might.

It sucks that a lot of people overlook Viv's writing problems when it comes to certain types of characters just because she's a bi woman. If someone says that the writing for the female characters is sexist, a lot of people will argue "Well, the creator is a woman so it *can't be sexist"*
Or if they say her writing for the queer male characters is pretty homophobic they'll also say "She's bi so her work *can't be homophobic."*
Look I don't watch the show but a lot of video essay channels do have a point with its writing.

Aside from the issues stated in the review, I’m really tired of them always having these cliffhangers of “ooooo they might come back at a later point for revenge”
They’ve done it damn well near every episode, honestly he could’ve just killed Crimson, what threat does he even pose it Millie can just kill an horde of goons on her own
What would he add later on in the story? We already gotta deal with Stella, Striker, ice peacock, etc.
The fact I had to use “etc” is also a big issue because they’re just so many characters “potentially” running around in the background that could comeback at some point
But so many would be style over substance, because the only ones who really affect the story is the Goetia + Striker

Also the “Oh don’t worry about this character’s lack of characterization, they’ll get an episode soon”

That's a big problem, there.

@@redpanda6497 Hence why I do not trust Vivzie or her crew to handle such a serious subject matter as suicide.
If you bring such a topic into anything, you have to treat it, no,
You have the utmost responsibility to treat this subject matter with utmost sincerity and care.
Unfortunately, the tweet is real. SMH

We're working hard!"
I understand the pressure and stress of working on a popular series, and sometimes you get annoyed with constant backlash and all, I really do, but viv really has to take time off the internet if she can't handle non criticism and just some random UA-camr venting about a series they like.

Like I feel like we have a lot of setups but very little time to address any of it"
You just summed up the single biggest issue with every vivziepop property lmao

Stolas and Blitzo are not a healthy relationship, and it could be written interestingly if the show actually adresses the weirdness of it, this inherent power inbalance and how this isn't good for either party-
But instead, they want to frame it as "Oh, cute romance!"
The fandom calling every criticizer "homophobic" gives me heavy fujoshi vibes.

The same with Angel Dust being what a teenager thinks how a pornstar is supposed to act, even things like the character design/costuming feel's like the Party City Halloween clearance bin, rather than the time period they were supposed to be apart of (Alastor, Niffty, Valento, etc.)
Plus not to mention, it's sooo telling that background characters (namely male characters) have WAY more depth than any female character - we know more about Chaz's backstory than Charlie or Vaggie from Hazbin the MAIN characters omg
Well Charlie that is. Vaggie was a prostitute from El Salvador and died sometime in 2014.
We’ll probably know more about them once the show comes ouy
Chaz got more backstory than Charlie?
That's...that's just sad
But also kinda hilarious in a sense
I think the main problem is what Just Stop said. “Over ambition”. It should have been this. A comedy with episodic episodes with some hints on a bit more complexity of the characters, have just 3 main antagonist (that being Striker, Mayday, and Frizz), have small but good arcs on the main four and then Stolas in the halfway point, bring back Mayday and Ohio guy to have a romantic arc, and that’s it. It’s a little bit hard but hell of a lot less harder than having 6 antagonist and loosing sight of the show as a whole
Scratch that last part. 7 reoccurring antagonist if you’re including Stella or 8 for Martha

While I obviously agree that having the focus on both the male and female leads is far more interesting,
The key difference is that Shounen Manga was made for young males in the first place, whereas Helluva is actively isolating part of its core audience while trying to distract them from it with Tumblr Sexy Men.

Viv is not a good storyteller.
Exactly!
Now that I think about it you're right. Whenever they do go up to the human realm they appear in America/ The U.S. I feel like it'd be pretty interesting for them to go to other countries around the world and explore new places while doing their jobs which is killing their targets. But you know it probably won't happen or who knows.

God, I'm SICK of everyone treating Mox like a toilet. It's even worse when one considers that Vivz puts the guy through a 'he learns to stick up for himself' in almost EVERY episode yet completely forgets it EVERY SINGLE FUCKING TIME immediately after the scene is over
@@jeremyallen5974 Viv: *So anyway let's make fun of Moxxie's small wee wee for the 500th time-*

I guess, calling someone something they're not? That's the joke? I don't know :/
The other weird part is fat jokes can land extremely horribly given the society of today.
So why does the team like to use body dysmorphic disorder jokes given Moxxie is THIN AF?
The sinner pride ring point is so true, whats the point of the other rings if thats the sins they commited

I thought it was amazing 👍
@@kittenpaws8896 She already reviewed it on Tumblr. She thought it was ridiculous but fun and she mentioned that there were moments where she smiled during the episode.
Im not surprised if she’s one of those edgy people who dislikes Christianity due to its deception and controlling nature and thinks Hell is cooler
I think it would be way more cooler and interesting if Hellva Boss just took place in the human world.
Well said and def related, me myself also got this problems lol

@@redlikeroses3705Always best to find a writer who can keep a consistent vision, a lot of us are unfortunately not jack-of-all-trades and we have entrusts certain fields of expertise on others.
I think the major issues the show have , is that the main director and writer have to explain tho twitts
If cant convait that in the original source and have to do a twit to explain, you doing a bda job
And that shark prist describe this world lore, nonsense , there in HELL how you mess up that concept
If you have to explain at length why something in the show makes no sense outside of the show itself: you're doing a bad job writing.

It just seems like they forgot the entire lore of the first season, but only explains them with last minute excuses.
At this point you and Lovesart23 should just rewrite the whole show. You as the writer and her as the designer. You obviously have a idea to fill plot holes and Lovesart23 designs just make so much more sense then they do in the show.

Yes
Wait, so the humans only staying in pride is a lore thing? I don’t know much abt the rings of hell so idk if it was lord or an actual thing, but humans not being able to leave pride is like…. Stupid. The whole thing with hell is that ppl die and go to a circle of hell based on their sin. Is this a rule just to keep the hazbin hotel characters in the same place? Or is it a reason for the overpopulation????
Yeah, I had a problem with it too. It doesn't really make any sense. She should have gotten rid of the 7 rings and just make one hell but smaller. That way, Angels killing demons would be more significant and emotionally heart breaking. A tragedy.
@@Featheryfaith7 but apparently it's only sinners and the occasional demon, sinners are already seen as vermin why do they care if those beings die heck the demon population would be thanking the angels for doin em a favor
@@jockdouglass3824 They are not always seen as vermin since they can make hell so much money. Sinner demons can be important in hell for entertainment and money means purposes. Once a sinner demon reach an overlord status or fame aka infamy, they are seen as high class and are worthy to hang out with the other overlords and thus boost their status. Angel Dust is known to get around with overlords and other famous and infamous demons and since he goes to their parties. Then the Goetia will invite you into their royal parties also called," Overlord Parties." I'm writing fanfiction. It's like living on Earth. In other words, you have to useful for them to use you in order to survive. Living in hell aint no different living on Earth.
This is just my theory but
I feel like it can be explained that they used to kill other demons, like when blitzo first started I.M.P. I'm guessing it was first advertised as assassin's of hell but since they didn't get as much money because when you hate someone in hell you can just do it yourself so blitzo got the idea to get the book from stolas to rebrand his company as assassins you can hire to kill a human you hate

Hezu you deserve a break. Great video, the beard thing is the only one I think you missed the point of, Moxx dad called her a beard cuz he THINKS she IS. other than that yep. I agree in most of these xD
Hezu was saying, "Why would being gay be something an imp would need to cover up with a beard?" It's overwhelmingly normalized for the residents of Hell through plenty of characters with status being LGBT.

Glad to know I ain't the only one who felt the dildos joke, ruined the tone of that scene with Moxxie and his dad lol
It can be funny for others, but for me it ruined the serious tone of the scene...
Also Blitzo's reasoning for looking into Chaz's stuff was pretty dumb. Also 'iN mY oPiNiOn' this coulda been a GREAT time to develop Millie with HER looking into Chaz instead of Blitzo (which could give a hint at why she hates him sm, cuz she knows he's a selfish prick. Idk, just my thoughts xD)
That part is disgusting, if that scene was a parody of the "adults" shows jokes it would work, but it isn't made to parody something is just a awful joke
Chaz is a selfish prick and she hates him but Blitz is also a selfish prick and she lets his behavior slide all the time.
The dildos is super childish really. Plus they had to censor it so what’s the damn point of having it then. It was reused in the shark priest wedding too like stale cottage cheese.
And honestly the shark priest seems so jarring too considering it’s Hell, not Earth.
