Today we are exploring Zamboanga, the rainbow city of the Philippines. A very unique place in the south island of the Philippines, Mindanao. Zamboanga has strong spanish roots, mostly to be noticed in Chavacano, the unique local language they speak. Not only Zamboanga stands out through the language, but also through the diversity it promotes: the rainbow mosque the most colorful mosque in the world, incredible birthday parties with lechon -roast pig and incredibly friendly people, and a colorful, loud and happy PRIDE parade with so many friendly filipinos.
Zamboanga is the rainbow city of the Philippines, a place like no other, with a turbulent past and present colorful filipino traditions, people and food.
Thank you Roy for being our best Zamboanga guide, advisor, loco loco friend, travel and love guru!

The vibe in the Philippines is just amazing. Nothing compares!
If you go to jolo be carefull
@@denvercb2872 lol, Jolo, Sulu, Basilan are now safe, you just need to tell the authorities that you'll be going to those areas so they can escort you.
This is how we are proud of our heritage because where ever you go you will receive the warmth of a Pinoy .
Wow! I am surprised how suddenly Gigi seemed to be more informative in the vlogs recently. I think Gigi is doing her reserch, which is good and highly appreciated, because most of the viewers like us have no idea of the culture and background of the things in the venue. Good job Gigi. 🙌🙌💞💞🙏🙏 It's funny how the famous and courageous Michael chickened out this time here because of his shirt print. Hehehe. But thanks Michael for showing respect there. 👍👍👌👌🙏🙏🙌🙌
Thank you for exploring the Philippines traditions, it’s people and artifacts. Watching from the USA. Take care & God bless.
Thanks for the virtual tour of Zamboanga, now I know how it looks like being a Baguio boy .
I got surprise watching this video. It's been awhile since I've not seen you guys. I never thought you've come this far to visit our home town. WELCOME to Zamboanga City.! c",) 🌺
Took me a while to visit but finally we made it. I'll definitely come back 😄
Good vibes people and good foods. Zamboanga 🫶🇵🇭. Watching from SF CA 🇺🇲 👍

You mean one of the poorest
Wow. Zambo had improved a lot. Had to work somewhere else in 2015, so I left this city, and looking at it now, it had definitely improved. Thanks so much for featuring our beloved city!
You're energy is still the since the day you've been here first time in the Philippines i love it 😁 Godspeed
It's directly proportional to the energy of the people around 😁
@@DodoExplorers I really wouldnt call this proportional.

This vlog is awesome❤❤❤
Lovely vlog 😍🥳
.wow it's clean beautiful compare to most cities in Phil...that's stunning descent town...
During the spanish colonization, they design the cities that way, there's a city hall, then church and markets to monitor the movements of the people.
By the way the rainbow mosque is very beautiful.
Indeed it is, I would've loved to be able to visit it inside as well ☺️
One of the best videos in PH by Dodo Explorers.
Oo, shout out po!!
you two are a lovely couple. zamboanga is one of the places in the philippines i want to visit. 😊
I'm excited to see if you talk to the locals about the Chavacano Spanish dialect because we are so much of English because it's our 2nd and official dialect...Hehehe...
Wow! Muchisimas gracias for visiting our place:) enjoy ur stay:) con kwidaw:)
The lady who is weaving is very articulate. She can be hired by the tourism department of Zamboanga to promote the culture. So amazing!
This is a great idea! She has so much knowledge, it could definitely help promoting tourism here more!
Yes I noticed also ❤❤❤❤
No more skip adds because dodo is amazing man 🎉
I dig Mike’s accent. Reminds me of “Issa me, Issa Marrrio”. Sounds fun. Great vlog!

Eating in the carenderia is my bucket list when i go back to the Philippines. The food is looking delicious guys!
Do you also like satti?
Yes. Plus the puso or the hanging rice!
Eating in cafe and restaurant is more practical and prudent.

The University right there in the heart of Zamboanga City is my alma matter❤❤❤
This is amazing. My husband's family is from sanbaonga city. His mom an sister worked in city hall. Me and our daughter when there in 2007 we were there for 3 months . We live in Canada. Such beautiful people and very friendly people
So cool! Thanks for sharing!
Masha’Allah. Michael said “In Shaa Allah” meaning ‘If God’s will”. Good every time we have plans to do, we need to trust God for everything. May God guide us all to the right path always. May God bless you both 🎉
I tend to pick up phrases and words from the countries that we visit and use them ☺️
Bienvenidos a ciudad de Zamboanga..

Why not possible to make video inside? 🤔
Wow the Yakan Products are soo beautiful. I want to visit that place/store to buy colorful bags, table runners, blazers Atbp. ❤❤
Rainbow Mosque 🙌
Soo many beautiful designs ❤️ indeed
Zamboanga is one of the few cities that mostly retained their Spanish colonial architecture. In the olden days most cities in the Philippines looked like that even Manila. If you read accounts of westerners that visited the Philippines in past centuries they mention how the cities are generally similar to those in South America and other Spanish colonies with some slight differences (bahay kubo/bahay bato style; more Asian influence).
As for the pen thing and going to a shrine/holy place before or after exams that's largely an Asian thing and students mostly do that to important national/licensure exams. Heard students in Korea and Japan does something similar except its in their temples rather than in churches.
Love love love from Dubai uae ❤❤❤❤❤
Hahaha such a great couple very funny. I love watching your vlog u made my day very unique couple always smile in every angle ! Keep safe guys enjoy exploring! I miss my homeland! 4 yrs working overseas and finally in a few month's to wait I smell the smoke of my home!

every third sunday of january go back to my hometown cebu city you will experince far more people in an parade its called sinulog festival its the festival of all festivals in the philippines 2024 will be more exciting for sinulog festival
KIRK HAMMET from METALLICA is half Filipino and half American, actually. Kirk's favourite Filipino food/dish is CALDERETA KAMBING/GOAT STEW.
Interesting how you have old mapa and background research. You learn something new everyday. Zamboanga as a whole is not very famous with foreigners so locals aren't really used to seeing foreigners unlike Cebu or other tourist hot spots but hopefully tourism will open up also to other nationalities not just vloggers
Great... Hope u enjoy here in philippines even its poor country
The people here in Mindanao are one of the nicest people I've ever met. Being poor or not doesn't have anything to do with it 🤷♂️😅
You are the poor
Nice video!",.. you have tooooooooo" much food's shown us!".. only for this video!",... Very interesting!',... Lot's of food's!!",... I felt hungry" while watching you' two!"..... More Video's!",..and more Power!!",....
Thank yoooou!! Food is amazing here!
the most colorful city in the philippines is zamboanga❤
The people here seem more relaxed and more friendly then other places we've visited, definitely one of my favorite cities and places i wanna come back to ☺️😁

That's the city I grew up Z.C , we speak chavacano or Latin Spanish language.
More like Spanish Creole but yeah
Gigi and Michael is the best❤

Micheal crazy in zamboanga
I feed off the energy of the people, if they're in a good mood, I am as well 🤷♂️😅
0:54 i like him he is funny🙃
There is Zamboanga del Norte - Dipolog si the Capital and Zamboanga del SUR - Basilan is the Capital.
Pagadian City is the Capital of Zamboanga Del Sur sir😊
There are 4 zamboangas on the peninsula.
1. Zamboanga del norte, capital : Dipolog. Language: Bisaya.
2.Zamboanga del sur, capital: pagadian. Language: Bisaya.
3. Zamboanga sibugay, capital: Ipil. Language: Bisaya.
4. Zamboanga City, the only chartered city and highly urbanized city on the zamboanga peninsula. Language: Chavacano.
"The news is..., kosa ba se o?" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I HAD TO LAUGH SORRY. UR A FUNNY WOMAN NANAY
I was very surprised at the Pride Parade in Zamboanga. This is a muslim city so it's surprising.
Ang ganda nung city kahit midsized sya at malinis.
Stick to the facts not on your impressions
Muslims are a minority in zamboanga city. Also in terms of land area, zc is the 3rd largest city in the philippines, you can fit two whole metro manilas and zc will still have room.
This isn't a Muslim City the Majority here is very Mixed but so many Christian here
And also Zamboanga City isn't under the Bangsa Moro Region so this isn't a Muslim City but Mixed
You guys speak italian also?
Any tips on travelling as a foreigner? My boyfriend is visibly foreign and I want to visit the city as I am originally from there. But I heard that it could be dangerous?
Do you see anything dangerous happening there? We've been staying there for 1 week and so far it is one of my favorite cities 😅😁
#DeEpedSecretary #PhilippineGov. Pls. Include / return Spanish subject in Elementary or in Highschool ♥️
lol they left the pens to ask the lady to let them pass in their exams. rarely would anyone come back to thank 🤣😅😂
old muslim folks witnessed that miracle and they lightened candles there..because they saw what happened..i ask one very old muslim couple why they light candles at fort pilar they said they respect the miracle..
FILIPINOS ARE WATCHING FIBA WORLD CUP VLOGS HELD IN BULACAN PHILIPPINES,,
It's a wonderful arena there, we visited it a few months back when Ginebra won the PBA finals! #nsd
@@DodoExplorers i watched it actually ,,, i was just hoping to see your vlogs also at fiba world cup
Guys you almost near in Indonesia
Yes 👀 very near
Well Philippines and Indonesia have the same culture
Hola
The guy look likes monching! Anak ni pelita corales😂!
(09 Sept 2015 -09 Sept 2023)
Guapo mo dodo
I died laughing when he said, “Feliz Navidad” as opposed to “Feliz Cumpleanos” 😂
Hahaha, gracias 🤣
you look like luka doncic
He's a fellow Balkan brother so yeah ... 😅🤷♂️
Eat BBQ chicken butt ( from philippines ) i know it soundsdisgusting but its really good
In the beginning that's what we're having "for breakfast" 😅
16:22 Watching the whole video, I just can say: People will be more friendly over all, if Mike just slows down a little bit.. He is overly fast, hectic, goes very near in the personal space of people talks nonstop at the second of approaching.. It is just too much for me, and I am an european, now lets think about how this will feel for an asian person..
Have some deep breaths every few minutes, calm down.
Sorry to sound so harsh but I had to say this. It is exhausting. I felt uncomfortable in the interactions even I am not the person that had that interaction personally. But if I would be there, I think I would just say "no thanks" and continue on my way, even though I am quite communicative and supportive and helpful - and you probably following me :D but kidding aside: Just a friendly reminder if you seem to have less friendly interactions than you expect, dont always look for it on the person you encounter, but maybe also yourself.
Look to your girlfriend, she is much more composed. Would be a totally different reaction. So maybe try half "energy".
As far as i know never use ur finger when pointing to someone or things it is prohibited in Islam correct me po if im wrong sa mga kapatid na Muslim ✌️😊
I think it's more of a culture thing rather than a religious thing, but then again it's kinda hard to remember so yeah i hope people don't get offended since I'm doing it on purpose 🤷♂️😁
not at all, because they're both foreigner people will understand, and I'm from zamboanga as a muslim and tausog tribe
Latin city pero Ang mga pango.
30:00 onwards i see a lot of gay there hehehe
7:22 astagrullah Why this Masjid Has rainbow
Well it's just a color and isn't about LGBT and it's been there for a long time and no pride month during that time
@@unknownph537 I thought they support LGBTQ
Did you know rainbows occur naturally 🤦♂️ Why would a masjid support it??? Let’s use our brains
@@isaacios well in the Philippines we support LGBT community but doesn't that mean that we teach it to our young ones like the western countries do it but we against it but we accept who you are but we don't accept teaching it to younger ones unlike in the western countries
Zamboanga is one of Malay city in Philippines. Not latin
Nope that's the Old name of Zamboanga City it's called Jambongan and Zamboanga City it's called the Asias Latin City btw I'm from Zamboanga City
the old name is samboangan..it was written in the city hall...I'm a pure zambongueño i was born there..my parents are pure zamboangueños...
Barbecue not Satay
sati not satay..sati is a muslim recipe..so delicious
Satti
31:40 Maybe the only city with such a big muslim population, where this is possible.. Imagine a pride parade in middle east 💀
Muslims are a minority in zc.. Also muslims there are very liberal, they are very accepting of gays and lesbians
We lived in a peaceful country and LGBT are very respectful here they never insult about the religion unlike in the west
@@unknownph537True because we LGBT here are normal and not like the West it’s just too crazy there
Philippines should rejoin the Latin world and learn Spanish again.
Some filipinos learn spanish at cervantes instituto
@@richardunica3542 Great to hear :)
That's a double edged sword man, some people prefer the freedom they have after they kicked off the spanish, some still cling to the past. In my country it's the same story bit with communism. The way I see it is: Embrace the future but don't forget your past. 😅🤷♂️
@@DodoExplorers Yes true good with the bad. The universe is full of duality. But I think a lot of beautiful things happened too between both cultures. Lots of Mexicans and Spanish want to connect again on a deeper level with Philippines, for tourism, business and all the history written in Spanish which should not be forgotten. Would hopefully make the country famous again in the future like it used to be as the Latin country of Asia. We are all friends now 😎. Keep up the good videos.
One of the poorest cities in the philippines.
One of the most poluted city around the world.
factually incorrect
Zamboanga has about 40% muslims , hardly Latin about that. Chavacano is a spanish creole but the people living there now, not so much
you should educate yourself.
@@JABM-AU its a fact, Zmaboanga ha many muslims. It isnt the cradle of Hispanic heritage, Cebu is. The langauage I will agree as chavacano is indeed a spanish creole.
@@fashionfgurl18that 40% just came from your mind without factual data? If there is data, then show me. Cebu just happens to be the first place where the spanish landed in the philippines, but as far as hispanic influence and lingering spanish heritage, you can't beat zamboanga city. The language alone beats all the other areas.
muslim population in zamboanga city is about 10-16% only. it is predominantly catholic. thats like saying manila is 40% chinese because foreign vloggers are mostly featuring chinatown and chinese food.😪😪
Lgbtqia+++ when i visit there is a little bit annoying and racist bac then😢
