  • Cold fronts are often a bass fisherman’s worst nightmare. They change up how bass position and feed, making it hard to catch bass if you don’t know where they went. Fortunately, in this video, I’ll explain how cold fronts affect bass and give you tips on how to adjust your locations, baits, and retrieves to catch bass just as well, OR EVEN BETTER, after a cold front rolls through. Hope you enjoy!

      Yup, most of our lives were grinding it out by ourselves...save our lunch money and bike miles to the closest store that had fishing books. Kids nowadays has a dictionary in their pockets... they're just too lazy to open it and learn.

    My question is this from watching your videos I can tell that you know a lot about bass fishing I would say a lot more than the average 30-year veteran so why is it that you are not on the bass Elite Series tour or the FLW tour or Major League Fishing for that matter I mean I don't get it

    • @FishtheMoment
      @FishtheMoment  5 років тому

      Hey John. The short answer is that I was told by a lot of Elite Series pros that it’s really hard to make a living and raise a family while fishing on tour. So I’ve been working toward a career where I can still fish for a living, but not have my livelihood dependent on tournament finishes or be on the road 200+ days a year. I definitely thought about fishing a tour coming out of high school, but decided not to for the reasons stated above. Thanks for the comment!

    No es la temperatura del agua en la orilla lo que afecta a la lubina, al calentarse el agua, el oxigeno disuelto en el agua se pierde, y eso es lo que hace que la lubina, busca su zona de confort. Saludos a todos, de monterrey n.l. mexico.

    Where would spawning bass bass spawn if the ledge they spawned on in shallow water is left high and dry by the water level.This happened in Lake Gaston VA/NC?

    • @FishtheMoment
      @FishtheMoment  5 років тому

      Normally, when the water drops a lot on my local lakes, the bass will spawn 10-30 ft from the new bank line (further out than they normally would) because the water may still be dropping and they don't want their eggs to be out of water. This is especially true if the water is clear. if the water has 3-5ft of visibility, bass will spawn as deep as 12ft of water.

    How did you do at Beaver Lake in your tournament? Do you have I-Pilot trolling motor? It was horrible in The Village today, wind 15-20 and water was chocolate. Went after cleaner water in deep structure as I have learned from you. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.

    Awesome stuff! I've been looking for a video or even an article like this for a while. Something to explain how to fish cold fronts in each season. This video is now saved in my likes and will re-watch in the future.
    With that being said I was hoping for the winter you would explain the flip side of a front. When warmer weather comes though. For example... Where I live the air temp been a high of mid 40's the past few days. Tomorrow the temp is supposed to jump up to low 60's and windy. And for shallow water lakes like around here this can be huge.
    But also it seems the bite turns off in these conditions and is better the day after.

    Another awesome video! Thanks Johnny! I fish Lake Egypt and Kincaid in Southern Illinois. Egypt is a warm water power plant lake, heavily Tournament fished and big time recreational use!! You are not allowed to fish docks! Kincaid is a state lake with high numbers of crappie, allegedly some muskie , and large mouth, also heavily used for recreation.

    Your video is well put together and i enjoyed watching it.
    However, i think the most important point that you missed or couldve included in it would be that - our rules dont apply to bass, and bass dont abide by any rules. Approaching every day with an open mind is the one best thing you can do regardless of weather patterns. The reality is weather we think we have the fish figured out or not - fish do different things every day based on what the food chain of microorganisms are really doing. Yes, we can try our best to anticipate what bass will do on a given day based on our "knowledge" or weather patterns but the only thing we can do is go out and fish.
    Fishing in bass tournaments especially sometimes matching the mood of the fish based on weather can be a bad thing which is why power fisherman like Jason Christie, Kevin Vandam, and Rick Clunn are so so successful. Its because they dont use any rules, when everyone else is throwing a shakey head, KVD is most likely bombing a 6xd.
    An important key i think a lot if anglers overlook is trying to figure out what the bass are feeding on as opposed to what the bass themselves are actually doing. If youre not presenting youre bait in the way that matches what the primary forage of that time is doing youre making a huge mistake. Bass in lakes especially bigger ones are no where near as oppertunistic as a bass in a small pond. Because it seems they have some type of internal clock telling them when to make a forage switch based on a number of factors. Theres a resevoir i fish quite a bit of and i can promise that figuring out weather the bass are on panfish type forage (bream, yellow perch) or shad is half the battle sometimes. I believe a cold front affects the forage more than the bass themselves.
    Point im tring to make is, dont leave any box at home, anything can happen. We know next to nothing about mother nature if you actually think about it.

    Hey Jonny big fan and I really appreciate your work just some advise (not that I'm a youtuber or anything) but I've noticed that videos about any topic in general that are longer than about 14 minutes people start to lose their attention span on and go to another shorter video (I think one of the Tactical bassin' guys pointed this out that most people didn't finish their 1 hour seminar video) so I think it would be better if you keep your videos to about 14 minutes. But of course, it's your channel do whatever you want with it I'm still gonna watch your videos even if they're 2 hours long. Tight lines my friend.

    I just want to say thanks for putting this content on here. I am just getting started in tournament fishing ( 3 opens last year). There are things that you explain that I would never consider. This video is a prime example. I am in warsaw indiana, we have many lakes to fish around here. The first tournament this year is on lake wawassee. If you can give some pointers.... If not, I understand your busy... Thanks again.

    How would you fish heavily pressured smaller lakes? Can you still go by contour lines or mainly beating the banks? Love your videos man best out there by far

    • @mattnash5159
      @mattnash5159 5 років тому

      You can beat the banks all day if they are not shallow their not shallow. This is why i love Johnny's videos because it seems like he does more opeb water fishing. Problem is even in a smaller lake you still gunna want some type of effecient electronic/fishfinder. This is my downfall and it will limit me to success on the bank more so then not. However when i can get a HM10 or some type of bigger screen i will definitely be heading for open water especially during peak heat conditions.

    Really appreciate the solid info you give on your videos. By FAR the best instructional fishing videos I've ever come across. Question: When vertical jigging watching your electronics when you can see your bait moving and the fish, is the transducer you're watching mounted on the back or does it have to be the one on the trolling motor?

    • @mattnash5159
      @mattnash5159 5 років тому

      Doesnt matter but whichever one the fish is in front of whether back transducer or front that's going to be the side you want to drop on the fish👌

    • @davidellisoutdoors3247
      @davidellisoutdoors3247 5 років тому

      Matt Nash I’m not sure I understand what you’re saying. It seems that if you’re on the trolling motor and your display is showing what’s below the transom mounted transducer, if you drop vertically you aren’t directly over the fish and wouldn’t see your lure on the display. Is that incorrect?

    • @mattnash5159
      @mattnash5159 5 років тому

      It depends on which way the tranducer is facing. Which ever way its facing is where your going to want to drop right in front of. Then again im no expert and havent done any video game fishing myself so if im wrong hopefully somebody catches it and corrects me. Anyway that's my understanding👌
