  • Servos are the most underrated parts of fixed wing fpv builds. Good servos that are precise, fast and strong can greatly improve your fpv footage by squeezing the best out of modern flight controllers running INAV or Ardu.
The Drak family is probably the best allround class of fpv airframes, fast, bulletproof and versatile. To match the capabilities of these airframes as well as to protect your investment you need reliable parts, first and foremost quality servos. This is a short look on the details of
    GDW DS290MG and GDW DS590MG

The electronics silicone on the leads where they are soldered to the PCB is not for insulation it's to prevent the leads from vibrating until they fall off the PCB or the pot (hopefully they have done this with the pot leads as well, or at least used long pot legs soldered straight into the PCB). The silicone goop immobilizes the wire so it won't flex at the solder joint when exposed to high frequency vibrations in a helicopter or an IC plane.
What would be better is crimped board-in connectors (the wires are crimped into pins in a plastic block that is soldered into the PCB) but the only place I have seen that is in high end Futaba servos. Silicone goop is an acceptable alternative in lower cost servos though.

Do you remember which futaba servo(s) you saw this connection scheme in?

nice... what's the angle of turn? the specs say 220 degrees on the pot, but do they go that far ?

2x60°, pretty standard. The big ones have a mechanical limit, the 290 don't, so maybe you could mod them for more. Haven't tested that yet tbh

@@grumpyoldnerd8727 The three GDW BLS992 I bought have a deflection from center of about 47-48 degrees at 1000ms ~ 2000ms. Each servo is slightly different and left right are also slightly different with a tolerance of within about 1 degree which is pretty good (this is caused by variations in the pot, no two pots are exactly alike)
Most servos I have checked are somewhere close to 50 degrees at 1000ms ~ 2000ms though there are exceptions.

We are hoping to stock these servos brand for our store in Australia but most people prefer to pay for name brands. I think this company make the servos for Omphobby M1 and M2.
