Awesome video, I’m going to show my children this video, it’s good information to know! Thank you and God bless you! ✝️🛐💓🎚
Well done Jeff,
You might want to rethink the solar still info, but with a different approach.
try putting out about a dozen clear plastic bags around living tree limbs on trees such as the Cottonwood that a maybe a little younger if you can find them. Do it early before it gets too hot.
Let the tree extract the water out of the soil.
Well done Jeff,
You may want to try a different approach to the solar still.
Try putting about a dozen large clear plastic bags on younger tree limbs. Weigh the tree limb down insert your tubing that you carry to drink from the bottom of the bag while it's collecting water.
thanks for this video Jeff.greetings from Slovakia!!! :)
Great video Jeff! Let me know if you need a bottle hanger for removing that steel bottle from the fire. I'll send you one on me! *And no, I don't make them or sell them, I just really appreciate all of your videos :)*
Best video 2014 OMG Thx!
Jeff.. Good info! For me finding water is easy, but then I live in the Rocky Mountains. I Hope one day to spend some serious dirt time in some desert areas. I just found your channel and I am having to play a bit of catch up, and I must say.. You put out high quality videos with excellent content and no BS. I appreciate that! Thanks..
Shad
Thank you for your support
This is an enjoyable and educational video
Wonderful presentation. Thanks
I always take a tanker car of water with me when I get stranded and lost in the desert.
I seem to have missed that monsoon season. It must have been very brief. ;-)
lol
have you ever thought of using your knife to tap the bottom of a mesquite tree for water, I have done this on the tree in my back yard and it is water not milky at all clear liquid? I did not try it to test the taste
Great video Jeff. Would you be concerned about pathogens in the nesting cup? Would it be wise to stick that on the fire for a few also. Thanks.
Here in the north east we have trail trees , are there similar rock formations made by the First Nations of your area to point to wards water?
Amazing.
Haven't seen Dude in years! Need to get to some dirt time events
THANKS!
You mentioned a historic river. In the 29 Palms area, there was a ancient lake called Lake Manix by historians. There was a big earthquake and it opened up a river that drained the lake. The ancient native population slowly moved their camps in closer as the lake diminished, until the landscape is what it is today... a desert. Another thing that turned this into a desert was cattle grazing by the Spaniards. The native grasses could not tolerate the grazing and the land received another jolt and became even more arid. Or..... this is the history I was taught... and something for you to research and verify.
Use your tubing for blowing on the fire. It makes blowing air where you need it far easier.... another good use for your tubing.....
The desert being what it is,a magnifying glass would provide fire quick and easy on clear days (cloudy nights not so much),many compasses have a built in mag. glass,or if you wear prescription glasses you may all ready be wearing your daytime fire kit,a compass is not a bad bit of kit to be carrying, and a Mag. glass can be small, light, and easy to carry,I'm guessing that a variety of fire starting devices would not be a bad idea, however the ancient ways could be a lifesaver in the right (wrong ?) circumstances.
Can you briefly explain why seeing bugs made you feel safer? In your first video you drank the water right from the hole with aquarium tubing - had it just rained and that made you feel that that was okay? And lastly, what about the disinfecting UV rays would this water not be safe from 6 hours of sunlight? Thank you.
In a clear plastic bottle, in sunny skies preferably with some sort of reflector under it, for 12 hrs...then yes. Rain water that just falls onto rocks and forms in puddles is "safer" than stagnant water
Thank you.
Fiona Quinn Bugs= No poison in water.
Outstanding video Jeff.
Thanks Joe
Jeff kudos you really know your stuff.
The video is excellent very well done. Only one thing that is disappointing. Rather then using saw cut wood you brought with you in a bag I would like to see wood you could use around the area. As if you really were out there making your way for real.
Do u strain your water before or after u disinfect it?
You need to strain before. If you are using a chemical disinfectant (iodine, chlorine, etc) as the organics in the debris will "use up" the disinfectant so either you will need to use more or you will not completely disinfect the water. If you are boiling the water, removal of debris lessens the chance you will extract any water-soluble toxins from the debris.
do you ever do any work with junkyard fox, James harris, it looks like your both in the same area, an do similar desert survival technique, good to see dude from dirttime channel.
Please explain where exactly or generally at in the Mojave dessert you are? I really want to explore that area and photograph some paleo activity. I have never seen a petroglyph, with a atlatl and not to mention never seen a Clovis or Paleo atlatl dart, on one of my artifact hunts and as a side note I never take the artifacts only photographs of them I know I could cover 50 miles out there and not find one but there’s always a chance! Way into the ancient people especially from the ice age Clovis and Paleo period and survival as well keep up the good work and sick tattoo brother dream theatre!!! 🤘
After the water cools down is it a good ideal to filter out any dead insects, etc. out of the water? Or do you just drink them down lol. Thanks for the video Jeff.

Enjoy the extra protein...;-)
Sawyer straw?
Why do you want to steer clear from pocket water that doesn't have insects in it? What could be wrong with the water?
How effective are straw filters?
The Petrogyphs were made by the Chemehuevi Indians who were there for thousands of years in that area, Willie Boys ancestors.Read the book called The Chemehuevis by Carobeth Laird it will state the tribes ancient places
Use a togle to get off the bottle from the fire with less efforts
A boatload of pockets to catch AU, though.
where did you get the cut firewood?
Oh and by some strange chance you do reply, with a place that you might not want everyone goin or even my self for that matter, who will truly respect the historic sites just message me on FB messenger so hundreds of people don’t see where it’s at although most of the people reading comments are avid survivalist but may not respect the findings and leave them there where they belong. Samuel Townsend is my Facebook info messenger would be ideal, mad respect brother keep up the good work. And if you send a reply I’ll record some dream theatre guitar for you, you inspired me and decided to learn the intro to on the backs of angels after watching one of your vids and can play lots of John petrucci’s work haha to the best of my ability’s that is, man petrucci no matter how far in guitar always throughs some crazy solo my way that is just to much he’s a master the whole band is just incredible. 🤘
What kind of water issues could an absence of insects be a sign of?
Example: Arsenic is a common mineral in desert rocks and soils... there could be a vein of fungible arsenic exposed in the streambed above . I'm sure there are lot's of ways for water to become toxic (just a SWAG)
im thirsty now
Echoing the question 3 others have asked, what problems might standing water without bugs have?
I love your videos but will watch only 15 sec of commercials so will miss some of yours.
You guys have a uniform, eh? : )
Why would you pack a "hand drill kit"? It's about 100x bigger and heavier than a lighter! Useful would be showing us how to make a hand drill from tree branches.
Indiana's Jones .....father and son :):):)
the dude abides.
I see that he found an ancient tinder bush
by the stack of tinder wood he has there...
Why is water without any sign of insects a red flag?
i see so much work for safe water. no offence but a little urine therapy can save you a lot of work
why would you want to steer clear of sitting water that didn't have insects in it?
Ow tf does someone film a video on water, then they find water. And not actually show us the damn water.
All I got out of this was how to start a fire while some old fart stares at it.
Spit is a word like moist. Just cringe worthy
