Lived there for over 3 years. True island life yet harmoniously quaint. You’ll never experience better olive oil anywhere else in the world, and it’s not even comparable.
@@osaidkhan3398 It's due to your ethnicity. All Italians love their italian olive oil. Greeks love their own greek olive oli as well. It depends on which country you are from or which country in it self you prefer.

I visited Crete last September 2019 and I was amazed by the green scenery, turquoise beach and of course the archaeological sites. I like olive oil and tasted most of them but Cretan olive oil is the best one when it comes to taste and quality. I purchased olive oil and table tops souvenirs for my friends and relatives from their local stores and lastly when I did my exit in Athens duty free airport. I will comeback for the third time in Greece.
I have lived on the Island of Crete for 17 years and love the way of life here. The Extra Virgin Olive oil is truly wonderful for cooking with as well as on salads and mixed with other foods of the Greek diet. Beautiful video thank you.
Thanks, Rita. Greeks "blessing their own house" is not the same when foreigners come, visit, experience and confirm it. I hope you've had good 17 years in Greece and feel a bit Greek yourself. That would be the best gift/honour you could make us.
That seems like a nice life. Friends, family, good weather and great food. Relax and don't think nuthing, don't think nothing. In these setting I'm sure you'll live free, without anxiety. I love greece
For anyone wondering a quick way to enjoy the oil. Eat make/order a Greek salad and the take bread and put it in the bowl with the oil and vegetables that are left and then taste it. You'll see what I mean. In Greek its called papara
Beautiful! I learned to read Koine Greek in seminary so now when I see and hear Greek I think it is the land of angels, perfection, higher beings. This video is angelic, beautiful, enchanting. Seeing the hills, the sheep, the people, the olive trees, the sights and sounds of Crete makes me think this must be what heaven is like.
Until you live here...trash everywhere..no roads...corruption..mafia..stray animals everywhere..uneducated and depressed society..should I continue?...fine go for holidays but greece js a country that SHOULD NOT even be in the european union...the schools are a crime
I wonder if olive oil in ancient times was more of an opaque slime since they surely didn't have modern equipment to filter the oil to this degree. Like the difference between soupy warm ancient beer and modern clear fizzy cold beer.
The Minoan people of Crete and surrounded islands mixed with the mainland Mycenean people and we got the Greeks. Both now provenly considered as the Proto-Greeks ( first-Greeks ). The Minoans and Mycenean were considered "ancient" even to the ones we currently consider "ancient". The modern Greeks DNA has proven not only being linked with Ancient Greeks which is a given, but a long portion still with linked with the proto-Greeks. The proto-Greeks first cultivated Olive Oil and later, the Ancient Greeks were the first ones to contact serious scientific studies about it. Alexander the Great's army was being fed with olives in his campaign. Thus, it is safe to say, the Olives gave the Greeks an Empire. Pretty much, none else has so comprehensive and amazing history. So proud, seeing a family like that make my eyes red.
For best results you also need Greek climate (it's together with Cyprus and Costa Rica the 3 best climates in the world) and the geology of the soils and microclimate that will make it differ in quality of taste. But ofcourse you can try I guess.
I still remember some loser Doctors who told me that my high fat/esp. oil diet was going to be harmful. Boy were they surprised by my blood work and cardio. Daily engorgement of oilive, sesame oils and most of all, animals fats (bacon, yum).

@@Hydrogen-Hyperoxide Η2Ο2 No wonder I never heard that expression in my village, and couldn't understand. I am from Anogia-Spiloriti, Crete. Your expression must be what outsiders say. Its ok, you don't have to convince me. I grew up in the mountains. Yes, Cretan everything (not Greek) is the best! Even our DNA is not Greek. I am sorry, but I am not happy about coming under the Greek flag after thousands of years being an independent, beautiful Cretan culture, but we could not stop that union. I also lived in Athens, the people are definitely different there--with much less ethics and beauty in every way. I don't know about Epirus.

Anyway is the land and climate. Those countries cant produce extra virgin olive oil. So in order to sell theirs as such they buy from us and mix it with theirs in order to pass the tests. Yet since it's just a corrupted mix the taste of the lower quality part remains so even if it is nominally as extra virgin as ours, in reality its of lower quality (higher accidity) and thus ours always tastes better. People who havent tried both though cant know this and thus these countries' export policies finally work in their favor.

Why does Greece sell most of its olive oil cheaply to italy instead of selling it themselves globaly to get more money for it?
It has been reported that 80% of Italian olive oil is fake. Yet they are one of the biggest distributors.

I'm interested on the recommendation as well, since Cretan EVOO has been my all around favorite.
They are green, not rip they should be dark almost black.
