What a refined singer Respected Asa Singh Mastana was.His traditional and folk punjabi songs are still matchless. I was fortunate to have him met in Green Park New Delhi couple of months before he passed away and sang his favourite song “जेदों मेरी अर्थी उठाके चलनगे”for him and that made him very happy.The treasure of that memory is still fresh in my mind.

He was our next-door neighbor in Sarojini Nagar, New Delhi. He worked with my Dad at the Reserve Bank of India. In the 1950's nobody thought he would become what he became. He is an icon of Punjabi music. He took Punjabi music to greater heights all by himself. He made Punjabi music famous worldwide. Along with himself, he brought Surinder Kaur, Prakash Kaur, and Hazara Singh Ramta to the forefront of Punjabi music. Yet he was a very simple man. 😀😀😀
Whenever someone asked me to sing a Punjabi song, my go-to song was Mastana Ji’s “Jadon meri arthi”. To this day it is my favorite. In 1971 while at Regional Engineering College Kurukshetra, Surinder Kaur Ji and Asa Singh Mastana Ji were chief guests at a variety program in Kurukshetra University. I was fortunate to receive the Best Singer award from them. That was a dream come true. Golden voices of the golden era of Punjabi music. Thanks for this collection. 🙏🏻

After a long time I am listening Asha Singh Mastana,s songs .A Golden voice which touches every one,s heart I am feeling my childhood when these old singers like his sisters Parkash Kour and Surinder Kour . They have gone but they left their songs for us🇵🇾
ਇੱਕ ਗੱਲ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਤ ਕੀਤਾ, ਉਹ ਇਹ ਕਿ ਗੀਤ ਵੰਨ ਸੁਵੰਨੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧਤ ਹਨ; ਸਿਰਫ ਕੁੜੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਸਬੰਧਤ ਨਹੀਂ। ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਹੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਉਂਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਹਨ। ਆਖਰੀ ਟੱਪਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਕਹੀ ਸਹੀ ਬਿਆਨੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ! ਦਿਲ ਉਦਾਸ ਹੋਇਆ। ਫੇਰ ਵੀ ਕਥਾਰਸਿਸ ਤਾਂ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੀ। ਸਾਹਿਤ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਇੱਕ ਮੰਤਵ ਹੈ। ਗੱਲ ਕੀ , ਮਜ਼ਾ ਆ ਗਿਆ। ਸ਼ੁਕਰੀਆ।
