I love how they made Lord Asriel more of a father (somewhat) to Lyra in just two episodes. Less cold and more bearable than his actual character in the books. He still loves his daughter, but his ambitions and arrogant take hold, and push away that love. That scene in the Golden Compass book where Lord Asriel cradled baby Lyra in his arms and whispered to her under the moonlit garden is just so sweet and poignant. He clearly adored his little child at that point in time, but it died when all his property was taken away, and it turned him cold and cruel against the world. Lyra grew up to be a little girl that he couldnt understand and was indifferent towards her, but he still wanted her to be safe and not knowing anything about her faith. I got tears in my eyes when he went pale the moment he saw his daughter and yelled "I did not send for you!" in such a heartbreaking tone. I have to give kudos to James McAvoy's acting, and I hope we will see more of his Asriel in season 2.

Nope, not crying.
I mean, i LOVE Asriel being torn with Lyra and i LOVE watching that he care for her, even love her in a way.
But when you have read the books and you know what's coming... It's even more heartbreaking...

I feel like this conveys Asriel's point of view so well, not just at this point but for the whole book series...would love to see one from Lyra's side or of their relationship later 💔

Indeed, I find the lyrics of the song perfectly reflect Asriel's state of mind throughout the story.
I can't find a suitable song for Lyra. Most are love songs or do not really reflect her state of mind.
Indeed, when all season 1 will be broadcast, I think there will be lot of material to do again a video about their relationship ;)

Yes, they made him a little more endearing and loving. Which is all the more difficult. We still see his roughness but we feel that he is torn inside.
The following of the story is going to be overwhelming.
