  • When something is wrong with our body, we often goto a doctor. But healthcare isn't linear. In fact, there are specialists like chiropractors and pelvic floor specialists that can help you heal things a regular doctor knows nothing about. In this episode I talk about my personal experience with recent specialists, and how we can get back to understanding basic human anatomy by using non-linear healthcare.

I'm gonna put this out there....because in my life, this is a HUGE factor... Sometimes our bodies react to stress and/or trauma...good OR bad...with physical symptoms. Our nervous systems can become trained(neural pathways) to respond with all kinds of symptoms. When we moved our family halfway across the country, my body just absolutely freaked out...I had stomach pain, chest pain, neck pain, weakness so bad that I could barely walk across our tiny kitchen, nausea... It just moved all over my body. Every blood test was normal, EKGs normal, and I was going to a chiropractor regularly and ate well. Sometimes our bodies just stay in fight or flight and can't calm. All doctors could offer were antidepressants..which I refused. I was on the supplement train big time, and for me it helped very little. My issue was a jacked up nervous system that wasn't responding as it should. I began to research, and lo and behold discovered how big a factor stress is in EVERY SINGLE SYMPTOM of the body. All this to say, herbs and chiropractor and exercises and diet are helpful at times, and certainly good for you, but until we acknowledge the stress and trauma we are under, and that sometimes symptoms are just the body's way of dealing with that(and your not actually broken, diseased, relegated to a life of pain....), we are still putting "band-aids"..albeit natural ones...on the gaping wounds of our lives. There are books on this...Unlearn Your Pain(Dr. Howard Shubiner)..is one..Healing Back Pain(Dr. John Sarno)...just google neural pathway pain, or mind body syndrome. It is real...another example is seen in adopted children...many manifest sickness or physical symptoms on their adoption day EVERY YEAR...or on the dates of big surgeries they had. The body remembers trauma.

100%. Dealing with a hiatal hernia and digestive issues since multiple stressors last year. It is fascinating how much stress impacts our health. Drs have been of no help at all to me which has been so disheartening, but I am learning so much on my own. Thank you for book recommendations

I agree 100%!! I'm a registered nurse and I have seen patient after patient get invasive treatment that didn't always solve the problem in the long term. Where if they were seen by a chiropractor or physical therapy, the problem would have been solved without invasive/costly measures.

You are on to it my friend. Our health system is really a sickness management system. Having working in health for 15 years I have left it, I can no longer work in that system. We keep ourselves well, manage most things at home with simple remedies and basically never see the doctors

This sounds exactly like what I've been going through the last 10 years. Unfortunately to access PT or Pelvic floor at least where I live you have to get a referral from your primary care provider and if your Dr is stubborn and won't send in a referral you have to find a pcp that will. I'm starting to heal from something that could have been taken care of earlier if I had had the self body knowledge and / or a Dr who would agree that my concerns were valid. Thank you very much for this video. Some drs/specialists are helpful and want to teach you about your body. Some drs/specialists are gatekeepers of knowledge and look down on you for asking questions. I hope everyone reading this and watching this video finds Dr's and specialists who want to teach you more about how your body works, and I hope the gatekeepers dispear from the medical industry.

    1) I've been struggling with pelvic floor since having our fifth, and you sold me on seeing a pelvic floor specialist. I'd LOVE to know more about how you found her.
    2) I used to teach alignment based yoga. I stopped for spiritual reasons, but I learned a lot about the kinesthetics of the body and how everything moves and where issues with spinal alignment affect hips, back, knees, CNS, all of it. I would always start working with people's feet, and little by little find weaknesses that were rooted in the spine. Kinesiology is absolutely fascinating.
3.) We don't realize how much muscle memory affects our skeletal alignment. That's why PT exercises ALONG WITH chiropractic care are tops in getting that alignment corrected.

I have found a really interesting book and presenter related to this topic. The presenter's name is Barbara O'Neil and her book is called Healing by Design. She takes the stance that if our bodies are given the proper conditions, the body will heal itself. Even cancer can be healed this way.
Personally, I am beginning to approach my own health from a metabolism perspective. I am a 40 year old and my body has just gone through the transition of age where everything starts to slow down. I am working on finding someplace where I can get the complete list of labs to get a good overall picture of myersbolism.

Hi, I completely agree! I'm a senior and I found what helped me was the yoga/stretches at the end of Ada Janklowitcz (sp?) Videos (I AM old :) ) seriously, stretching and yoga like 'AM Yoga' video (I only used videos) are wonderful for teaching yourself what your body needs and how to isolate the muscles you're holding too tight. I also have carpal tunnel and instead of surgery, I was given a wrist brace to wear at night. Fixes it. I keep in my dresser and if I stay having trouble, I pull it out and wear it a nights until I'm better. In our house, holding muscles tight and being under stress has caused much trouble but when we learned in our 30s how to release them, our lives changed. I'm sorry for such a long comment. But I truly think you're right! Drs are 'only practicing' medicine after all and have big school loans to pay off. Thank you Amy!
Here is link. Yeah yeah. It was the 80s ;) but it works. Rodney Yee is the yoga guy I think. Be well. Be safe.

AMY! Just go walking. 6 days a week for at least 30 mins. Drink 2-3 liters of water daily. Stay light on your sugar. Eat high protein! Take Diatomaceous earth. Protein collagen. Body. Soul & Spirit needs to stay in alignment. Which equals mental health, physical, & spiritual health. :D Yes you are right weight loss is important.

@@nursingcowgirl we do a lot of exercise here. Again, it’s not the same when you have hormonal issues that deal with insulin resistance. It becomes 90% food and 10% exercise before you see a difference. But it’s getting there! Being low carb has never affected my milk supply, again, since my issues are hormonal. In fact, it gives me more of a milk supply

I’m not sure if it’s our area, but during my entire 25 years of experience with pregnancy and obgyn history, surgery was the last option that was approached. Same thing with my back pain and my arthritis. I’m all cases , over the last 25 years of living in CO, surgery was the last option encouraged. Women regulars search out pelvic floor specialist writhing the medical system we have here. No OBGYN has ever encouraged me to go under the knife. It was always physical therapy, infrared therapy, exercises, etc.
I am sad that this is the medical practice you have in your area, but wanted to let you know that this is changing.
For example, the last osteopath I saw was also an acupuncturist and did physical manipulation. There are chiropractic totes soon also that specialize in women and children.
And a lot of Thisbe insurance driven, as reheat don’t want to drive people to invasive procedures.
Eventually I did get a hysterectomy, but only because I have a family history of hemorrhage and I had to call 911.
I love that you encourage us to know our bodies. There is a book called Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom that is ALL about handing that Grandmother knowledge down to the next generation.
Thank you for your thoughts and God Bless

  • @gathercreatelivewithleslie8340

Great video podcast. I was constantly going to a chiropractor over twenty years and they would always say my muscles were like trying to adjust a table. Years of research etc I have found out it's mostly diet. People that have hormonal issues, autoimmune disorders, diabetes and the list goes on and it's all from the food we eat. As soon as I eliminated all grains and sugar everything started to loosen up. My hormonal issues still hung around until I also eliminated dairy, which also caused me Plantar fasciitis and knee pain and excruciating cramps and clotting with my cycle. Thousands of people are healing autoimmune disorders we were told by doctors that aren't curable, just with diet. I would recommend highly and for free I might add, Mary Ruddick, Dr. Berry, Nutrition with Judy, Steak and Butter gal and Dr. Mary Bright. Our sick care model isn't helping anyone except the doctors to make money. I use herbs, essential oils and homeopathic remedies for almost all sickness that is bacterial and viral. They work faster and better without damaging the body. My low carb diet helped some, but I had to go farther. It's truly astonishing what the food INDUSTRY gets away with. It does take a lot of research and time. I also love Dr. Berg, Dr. Shawn Baker, so many with thousands of helpful videos on how to heal our bodies. The modality of calories in and calories out is a lie and just move more. If you're perfectly healthy, ya it's easy to lose weight, what about the other 100 million people. We are lied to that it is age or just take these pills, that it's not curable. It is the opposite of what we're being told.
