Wow. What an amazing review, I had so much fun reliving the Powerslide experience. Thank you, Posy. I was the co-founder and CEO of Ratbag. Powerslide was our first game, we loved making that game. The visuals were actually much better than the emulator here - much more detailed textures that we streamed into video ram (the first game to do it, provided unlimited textures). On a Pentium 90 with 3Dfx Voodoo1 card it ran at 60fps. Yes, that’s a photo of the dev team including me 😊 Those multiplayer maps were designed to play with the weapons cheats. The team was addicted to playing multiplayer fox and hounds mode with weapons. If we had more time we would have inserted that game format into the interface, but it couldn’t be tested and quality assured in time. Unfortunately, the marketing director at GT Interactive hated the game because it competed with her brain child TransAm Racing, so she didn’t release it in the US (only 5K copies). But it had a big fan base in Europe and won IGN PC Racing Game of the Year and runner up for best engine. Thanks so much for capturing the Powerslide experience, I’ll be sharing this with the team
would you happen to know if there was some kind of multipack released with this game at some point? I swear the version I had was bundled with another game. Thank you for making such a great game btw
Looks like a fun game! Wish I could play it.
In those days I could afford it and purchased every single racing game I could get my hands on. Transam sucked.
Interestingly enough they never released that Trans-Am Racing game...
The living legends! Absolutely loved this game and still playing sometimes👌

Unexpectedly. And it was great 👍🏻. The 'gaming' second channel is a must-have now.

One of life's most fragile pleasures is beating games from childhood that were too difficult. For me this game was Carmageddon TDR2000
Original spyro trilogy for me 😁
YEzzz. *Carmageddon*! (not to be confused with Karmageddon 😆)
For me it was Mystic Towers
Those towers from A5 to W4 are tough, not to mention that i only had the shareware
I just beat Caesar 3 this year. It was the strangest feeling and not one I'm sure I'll ever get to experience again. A mix of relief and pride, maybe...
@@sabbywins Stil working on *Sid* in *Civ3*. Maybe one day…
God, I miss when games had this level of playfulness with being a game made by people.
well, now they're made by whom 😮
Many games still do. I can only recommend the talos principle, superliminal or the stanley parable.
Aren't those all old at this point?

Honestly, the editing on this beats everyone else on UA-cam. Awesome review, Posy :)
Ahoy-esque
yep, officially in the top game-review clan now.
Well it's Posy... His editing has been godly since he arrived
@@brixan... True. Best edit-game from the start.
I think Posy is speedrunning UA-cam 😆
The extremely Dutch pronounciation of GOG at 25:50 was somehow very unexpected and unsurprising at the same time. Great video as always!
sounded like mans had something in his throat for a second. caught me off guard. posy giving the gawk gawk? lmao...

I grew up in this... that, era of gaming. And you really did an amazing job of capturing what made it so fun at the time. Even down to playing with the demo. Massive thank you.
I grew playing almost exclusively racing games and it’s just not the same as it used to be. Small teams (or maybe less well known teams) making arcade racers is so much harder to come across. It’s honestly sad seeing how few racing games are easily available on a common platform like steam
Say what you will about the latest Need For Speed game but I really appreciate how it leans towards the side of weird arcade racer vibes
@@Sam-uf8noUnbound is bad overall, but that's because of the story, progression, the horrid Speed Pass system, among many other smaller problems. The physics are a little jank but it can be pretty fun, and I like the Burst Nitrous system, as well as the art style (wish they went all out instead of mixed media though). I wish they didn't screw it up because it could've been a great game in spite of the stupid controversy about the cel-shader characters and flashy effects...
Ratbag was the most underrated racing game developer. In their short time as devs, they managed to shine their small spotlight on all the unseen parts of the racing world. From Dirt Track Racing to Dukes of Hazzard, they never missed.
How did I miss this one!?!
I opened a LAN gaming center in 99', and this would have been a hit!
Always delighted to see people share obscure games that they discovered and loved in their youth
Is your establishment still around?
@@Zippy_Zolton long gone. I had it for 4 amazingly fun years (like waking up giddy excited everyday) But it ran at just below break even the whole time, and gaming moved beyond my ability to upgrade or replace my PC's.
Thanks for asking, such an amazing experience. I'm still good friends with many of the guys who were my customers. We all reminisce about the good ol days. Heck, my little brother married one of the few girls who hung out there!
@@foxriver9156 awesome af hope you can try your hand at another business in the industry futurely
Nice video, love Powerslide! That cinematic intro was incredibly well made. Congrats on the cherries, and thanks for the mention :)
One of my favorite games back in the day - and a great soundtrack, too!

There is something about games like this where they hide a picture of the development team in the level that just fills me with joy. Max Payne 1 did that as well where you beat the game on its highest difficulty and beat a final challenge level and it gives you access to a room with the photo of the dev team as well as the reference photos they used to make their levels. I just love that sort of thing where these were real people who made a game they were passionate about and had just as much fun making it as you do playing it. I really miss that sort of feeling in games. Don't get me wrong I know that there are people in this industry that really do care and want to make amazing experiences plus I know that this usually leads into a "Modern Gaming" discussion but why can't we still have these sort of things in games? Even the OG Modern Warfare 2 had that really fun Museum at the end of the game that you could check out the 3d models and weapons that even gave you a fun challenge by pushing a button and having to fight all of the museum enemies.
Maybe these things do still pop up (and please let me know if they do!) but it just feels like that era of game design is gone, at least in the bigger triple A sphere.
Anyway, Posy this video was excellent! This game looks like something I would have a gotten a real kick out of back when I used to game on a Pentium 2 in my basement. Granted that computer could just barely play Sim City 3000 so I'm not sure this game would have worked lol.
Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure has a dev team photo room hidden away. Not a triple A game by any means, but still very fun.
Admittedly, Ratchet 3 didnt have a picture, but it had a developer museum full of cut stuff and testing things, it was so cool!
Quake 2 aswell
This guy is the MacGyver of UA-cam. You can give him a paper clip and duct tape and he'll make an awesome video about it with a view you never had on it before.
i really love the in-game commentary sounding like you're the pit crew listening to the driver over comms
Things I learned from this video:
1) Posy can Swear
2)Posy likes Racing Games
and
3) Posy actually PLAYS games
XD
When the Easter Eggs are more interesting than the actual gameplay, you've made a banger 😂
Really digging the biographical approach of game "showcases", please keep em coming!
This channel has a satisfactory way of editing and sound designing
can already tell your game reviews are gonna be as good as Accursed Farms'
Please, we need more stuff like Ross's in this world.
I never expected Posy to become a game reviewer
More of a game vibe curator.
This channel is about...
Wouldn't be surprised if this inspired Jak 3's vehicle sections, and Jak X entirely! This is such a cool highlight of a forgotten gem of a game.
Right? First thing that came to my mind is how similar Jak 3 looks. I absolutely love driving in that game.
I'd never heard of this game before but this video has got me feeling nostalgic. The cheat codes, the bits of "jank" in the AI, the FMV cutscenes for the trophies, even having a demo is something that used to be commonplace, was pretty scarce for awhile but now is luckily seeming to be making a comeback.
This was an excellently made video as usual Posy, keep up the great work!
Thanks Posy for introducing me to this oldie. Shame, I didn't know about at the time, but we enjoyed Re-Volt instead. That was challenging as well!
I never owned the full game, but I remember playing the demo like crazy! I never found any of the cheat secrets though.
This era of gaming was gold and it’s not nostalgia. Before it became the gigantic industry it is today, just after a previous crash you could just see the passion people put behind it. It wasn’t just their job, it was their life goal. So many fond memories.
How tf do you make ANYTHING entertaining??? I watched him ramble on about LCD displays, I understood little but was thoroughly engaged consistently
This game looks genuinely impressive for a late 90's game, especially the car physics (compared to similar games like Midtown Madness and Carmageddon), surprised I haven't heard of it before. Like a hidden gem that was under-marketed by the publisher probably. Don't think I've seen any game that gives so many real rewards for finding easter eggs either.
I would love to see more reviews of any other retro games you've played!!!! This was really nice. Your calming voice, clever commentary, and attention to detail makes anything you talk about really interesting 👍👍👍
I feel like there's a potentially interesting way to structure a game by encouraging people to stop racing and seek out parts of the environment that have cheats and/or upgrades hidden there.
Have the game start out like a regular racing game, then you encounter an opponent who is doing things you've never seen other racers do and you're knocked back to the beginning with a message telling you to meet someone in a secret area to kick off the Easter egg hunt and power yourself up, with each upgrade making it easier to make your way around until you get to the point where you can face off against the cheater and unlock the final act, where you are expected to race them one on one through a series of challenges that involve using the cheat codes to navigate through obstacle courses.
Interesting!
Like an rpg, but with cars
I had totally forgotten about Powerslide until now. That game was so pivotal to my childhood PC gaming days.
Also, I'm totally down with a PosyPlays gaming series. The late 90s era games deserve your editing talent!
I can't believe it. My favourite UA-camr reviewing my favourite game of all time that nobody talks about. The music in this game is unbelievable. This is my Roman empire.
Posy really takes a completely different line than most youtubers
Dude your editing is ON POINT. So engaging, so fun. You're the cream of the crop, second to none. Incredible stuff.
Feels almost like an Ahoy video. Editing, pacing, and pacing is absolutely great. Love it!
This feels like an early PS2 game I forgot about, lovely
You make such cool videos it is hard to describe it . Atmospheric is the word that comes to my mind . I'm happy that i discovered your channel couple of days ago.
I loved the racing games of this era, like Big Red Racing, and POD.
This one and pod were two of the best racing games of that era. The sliding on powerslide really was so satisfying.
Now I want to develop a racing game like this. I have been excited about coding vehicle physics for 25 years and did a few little experiments here and there then became interested in other projects. Seeing an old nostalgia-inducing game like this gets me going again!
Powerslide and Rollcage (by combat racing gods Psygnosis) were two of my absolute favorite racing games of that era. I spent so much time spent exploring every nook and cranny of the Dam track :D
It was Attention to Detail that worked on Rollcage and Stage II. Some of the devs what worked on Rollcage worked on Grip: Combat Racing
this is why I love older games, talented people take great amounts of time and care to make not only very good and playable games on very limited hardware but also make the games very fun and enjoyable to mess around in, be it just with great game play but also in a lot of cases with hidden easter eggs and sometimes even cheats!
I was right there with the race commentator, feeling every moment as he was gradually going insane with with worry.
I really hope you'll make more game reviews. You had some amazing shots during the intro and your use of music in this video is splendid. Amazing work Posy!
YEah, " _work_ ". Right. 🤭 🍓
The i'm working right now part has me cracking up so much
A 28 minute Posy video??? We eating good today!
Please make more game videos. Seeing you explore games you haven't tried before in your editing and narrative style sounds like a blast.
It took a gaming video for me to realize this channel reminds me of ahoy. I love your stuff Posy.
Goodness, I really hope you do more game reviews like this in the future! This has got to be the most beautifully-made video of this genre I've ever seen!
This video was more of a personal connection for me than an artistic "Posy" experience. It reminded me of games on the playstation 1 and 2 like twisted metal, need for speed, midnight club, and less similar racing games. I remember spending overtime on these games, finding the secrets, playing around (after i considered the game complete) like it's a sandbox rather than whatever the game design was. I remember how rewarding it was to find things you hadn't seen before, to wonder about what was behind strange, out of place textures/geometries, only to find out it's nothing..... But sometimes, it was a SECRET
This was such a cool way to present a game! I would love to see more game reviews from you Posy. Your video style is such a fresh presentation for the gaming youtube scene
The quality of these videos... man, please keep making them!!!
Probably one of the most hair-raising countdown sound effects I've ever heard in a racer. It's perfect for this post-nuclear disaster racing title!
you should play Riven or Myst. The music of Riven is to die for and I feel like the development process in these old games is something that is filled with so much passion. It's incredible to see.
No. Fricking. Way. I didn’t think I could love your channel any more
Channels like yours restore my faith in UA-cam, and vy extension, humanity.
There is one master.
THE master.
Also known as Posy.
I HAVE BEEN ACTIVELY LOOKING FOR THIS GAME FOR THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS AND I COULD NEVER FIND IT
I played this as a kid and loved it a lot, i spent days playing it with my classmates
Thank you so much!!
i used to play this game as a kid i feel so nostalgic
22:54 😂 "There's me cherry" 😂 Great video and a game I wasn't aware of..Screamer (shown later) yes, but not this. Very impressive and unique for the time. Some of your cornering lines were pixel perfect!! 👍
This gives me such nostalgia. I too got the demo and drove those elevated tracks to find the first cheat. Instead of looking for more, I just opened the .exe in notepad2 and searched for the text, to reveal a section of the file containing all the cheats. You're making me really want to get this game now.
You are very underrated. You make literally everything, from very interesting music, to incredible cinematography, to the most in-depth, geeky documentaries ever. Prompts to you, man. You’re awesome.
Damn, why haven't I heard about this one?
Its just what I like, Hi-Octane, Carmageddon, Hard Truck Apocalypse, Extreme G.
This one has exploration, cheats and by the looks of it - FUN.
The only channel that grabs my attention and keeps it in minute by minute of watching. That's an achievement, Posy.
The announcer voice used for the insane championship section sounds like Rescue Whale and I love it.
Here i sit, watching with rapt attention, a video review about a 25 year old game I've never played. I never know what im getting next from you, Posy, but I do know I'll enjoy it.
Oh hey new posy upload. Epic.
i have played it on my dads pc running Win 98 as i was a child, i remember finding secret spots in the world with symbols i did not understand, some years ago i bought a digital version on Gog just to play it again and i was shocked of the graphics, had it like better looking in mind but it was still kinda fun
nice to see someone doing a vid about, keep up your content
Here we go, the Posy gamer arc. Im so excited
Oooh, folks had this one as a kid. A year or so ago, it flew up into my mind, but all I could solidly remember of the story was that the prize was famed to be a bowl of fresh fruit. Took an afternoon to find it, then I found out it was produced locally! Kickass. Thank you!
The produce locally? 😄
Of course Posy would totally make an awesome gaming video better than 90% of yt. Please make one about the Rollcage series!
I remember this game VERY vividly! Please do this sort of video more often!
POSY!!! how can we be so alike?? I played this game so much! I never expected you to know this game too. I also mainly had the demo and also found my way up to the cables over the track.
Dude that intro was great. I haven't heard of you, or this game, so I just tapped on a UA-cam video and suddenly got a very bleak, cinematic view of an alternate future. That was awesome.
I really think you've found the perfect formula on how to succeed here on UA-cam while still making whatever the fuck content takes you fancy and I HUGELY respect that.
I borrowed this from a classmate when I was a kid. Had completely forgotten about it until now. Nice to see it again 😃
Man brings back back to playing on my grandfather's PC for hours and hours
Definitely need reviews of other games that you've played as this was one of most entertaining ones I've ever seen.
Hey Posy, I got into retrogaming lately, as I got a banana pi for christmas, and am trying to emulate consoles with retropi. Currently I am downloading roms and because of this fortunate coincidence it seems you now started retrogame reviews. The video is great so far and I looking forward to future part of your series.
Edit: I just downloaded the original snes rom for powerslide and will play it soon.
I love, how you can make a video about anything, and I will watch it glued to the screen.
I truly love your videos :^)
That was an amazing watch, even by your stellar standards. I would very much appreciate reviews of any of the few video games you have played. 😊
Now this is a game journalist I can get behind!
When the Hifi, Tech, printing, car brochure nerd channel just drops a gaming video of a 90s racing title I never played and actually manages to make me want to play the darn thing...
These Devs said (I think in the readme), that they used Neural Networks to Train the AI to drive the cars. And I have to agree, they react smoothly to any interference with them. Might be the historic first! Took more than 2 decades, and we slowly see neural Network based AI being used in games.
Also the timewarp cheat was even more fun when ramming slowed enemies, and then turning it off, causing them to fly of at very high speeds.
Also the Gog version, while being great for running at all, has a bug with texture quality in same areas, which can been in e.g. on the pipe on the urban truck (as you showed later). I tried different driver-, nglide- and game settings, but I could not remove it.
I would love to see more such high quality reviews from you.
what a beautiful and perfect homage to a wonderful old game from my favorite era of games. thank you for dedicating your time to this, it was a great watch.
I bought my first feedback wheel specifically for this game. Such a good game.
Your narration is really the cherry on top
Really enjoyed this video. Your content always has a high level of quality and not to mention I really enjoy reviews of games I've never heard of or experienced myself I would like to see more!
I fell in love with your content right away, glad to see that you are trying more ways of creating
Still the most underrated channel on UA-cam, so much passion behind these uploads.
That was beautiful. I read reviews and guides about this game when I was a child, but my PC didn't have the power to run it. Great game. You can tell Motorstorm was a modern remake of this, which I got to play fortunately.
Reminds me of POD, another similar racing game released around the same time. Nice vid, thanks!
Music adds so much atmosphere to the video it itself and very nice sound editing in overall!
I'd love to see more game reviews from you in the future, absolutely loved this one!
Finally Posy talks about a Video Game 🥹
The setting, story, and aesthetics of this remind me more than a little of Forsaken.
Was one of my favourite first aussie made racing games as a kid thanks posy
I loved this! You have such a unique style and it translates very well to videogame review ❤
Surprised a simple drifting simulation with such minimal graphics can be so addictive. At least it has a running score through the refrigerator.
What an amazing video, Posy.
The editing, the shots that you did in-game makes this a masterpiece.
10/10
