This video may well be THE solution for many except for one fatal flaw... at 2:51 the big yellow banner directs us to UNPLUG, RESTART, PLUG-IN BACK USB DEVICE (which, of course, should be Plug Back In) but the problem is that the error is an UNKNOWN USB Device with a failed Device Descriptor. In other words, we're not told which device is having the problem. So..... how would we know which USB device to unplug, reboot, and plug back in ?????
Most the time if you're looking into something like this, you know which device. If you don't, then it's probably an integrated device, and if you don't know what it is, then you're not using it -- you can try going through mfr. drivers until you figure it out.
I tried your solution and it didn't work, I also have tried updating the bios, reinstalling windows, updating the drivers and all the other solutions that I've seen online and none of them work. Do you have something else I can try? Thanks
@@Its_The_Main_Man After several attempts of trying to fix the issue I’ve determined that I have a bad WiFi\Bluetooth card, unfortunately it’s soldered and I can’t easily replace it. As a work around solution I’m using a USB WiFi\Bluetooth adapter and it does an OK job but not as good as highspeed WiFi\Bluetooth card.
Come on! Instructions in the video tell you to restart the computer but then you lose the UA-cam video and can't continue with the instructions. You should have the instructions typed out in text form so we can print it out or at least take a screen shot and save it to the desktop. Watching a video while trying to work on the same screen is causing problems.
Need some help or advise, I wanted to use a USB for my car mp3 player. I formatted it under exFAT and files in mp3 however it was giving an error. So I googled and discovered it is probably due to the partition type, so I changed it from GPT to MBR. Now my PC can detect the usb but cannot access it, it cannot even format...
My roommate got the touch when it comes to electronics and literally he jsut touch it and it work again but if you can't find someone who got the touch naturally maybe get a priest or a high power wiccan and some crystals and sit outside for a while. Ask a priest to bless it I guess and give them Kraft dinner for their time.
There are a lot of other variables in each sitution that could affect the outcome. Looking through the comments -- some of these probably did get fixed with this specific process. Others it could be just a result of a RESTART. Some will have their issues come back. When you have an error like this, it can be anything from a driver to things like overheating circuits, shorts, poor connections (internally as well, like ribbon cables). We have an issue with a specific piece of hardware (all the same laptop model) -- only a percentage of them throw the DevMgmt Unknown USB Device error. But it's many of them still. We tried to apply this fix to a good number of them. Some it 'fixed', some it didn't. However, it's an intermittent issue and it comes and goes. Some of them fix just with a reboot. Others with a BIOS re-flash. We're leaning toward the issue being with Power Management settings, and that's why we pursued this Registy fix -- but it hasn't worked for all of them (we're at about 50%) -- which probably means it was some other thing that actually fixed it (like just a reboot, after UPTIME of several days). Still looking -- THAT SAID -- Thanks to the OP for the advice. And to those saying "this didn't fix it" -- well, sure -- but why? This is the mystery :)
I noticed the problem and searched the internet and found your video. After that, I am ready to fix it based on your solution. But I went to device manager and found that the problem was fixed automatically by the grace of Allah.
Will this work if the error message only happens when using the USB in a dock (it works fine if the usb is directly in laptop)? If yes, does the USB need to be in the dock when making the changes to the registry?
i did everything showed in the video ( i also did lots of things) but i couldnt solve my problem. my keyboards lights are on i can switch the lights but i cant use my keyboard. i almost do the every code 43 solution. but as i said i couldnt solve it. pls help me.
@@sharjeelashraf2928 Yes. I smashed the keyboard and I no longer have such a problem. joking aside, I think this problem is caused by the cable being damaged in some way. The damaged cable receives the electricity to illuminate the light, but the keyboard or whatever is used does not function because there is a problem in data transmission. at least i figured it out from my research because i've been using another keyboard for a long time and it works just fine
This solution unfortunately worked for 8 days before my Bluetooth started acting up again and randomly disappearing and 'unknown usb' started reappearing... Anybody have another solution to this problem?
Great video! This worked first shot. One would think that if someone has noticed the device error in device manager, they'd know what device it is that isn't working. Your video was on spot!!
The same issue happened while connecting my keyboard. None of the fixes mentioned in any of the videos or blogs worked. Just unplug the keyboard and try it in another device (Laptop) - boom it will work. Reconnect back to the existing device (PC). This hack worked for me.
Thanks for the video, but that did not solve my issue - On my case I got that error after uninstalling GPU in device manager. My Bluetooth icon went missing and "unknown usb device (device descriptor request failed)" appeared on my device manager list.. Here's what solved my issue: Shut my computer down "held down the power button for 5 secs or until it shuts down", Flipped the power supply switch off. Flipped the power supply switch ON after 10 secs. Powered it back on and Bluetooth is back along with "unknown usb device (device descriptor request failed)" message gone as well.
This really helped, thank you! For context, my xbox wired controller kept comng up with the USB device not recognised error. Follow this video, it fixes it!
Thanks mate, it works now in my tower after your fix but not in my hub. That's not a problem for me as I've had similar problems before but I will investigate further. Thanks again.

Did not work, but it seems we pushed the usb port too far inside the laptop and it got damaged because of it. Will need to replace the i/o board.
we replaced the i/o board and it works again. so it was a hardware defect.
