The SCIENCE behind JIG TRAILERS: what you need to know about FLAP vs. BULK
Вставка

- What do you look for in a jig trailer, and WHY? Action, bulk, color? One of the most often cited reasons for using different trailers is to slow the fall of a jig. For example, by using a bulky, do-nothing trailer in cold weather, many anglers try to target winter bass, thinking they are slowing the fall of the jig (SPOILER: it's the exact opposite). Here I introduce the scientific concept of the CONTROL EXPERIMENT to help us solve the riddle of what makes trailers slow the fall of your favorite jig.

Keep up the good work! I love these videos!
Great video! You are the man! 👍👊
@@BeardsAndBowsOutdoors Glad you are enjoying them!
@@Reelcool74 thanks!
Great job keep up the great work
This is what I love to see. The pros and advanced fisherman can tell you it works by word of mouth, but it’s another thing to actually see underwater footage of how it’s actually working! Great info as always! Keep them coming!
Preach!
These videos have such great production quality. I always watch as soon as I see your post in my feed.
I love this. Real science. Not 20 minutes of personal anecdotes
Great information. Really hammered bass this season with jigs and trailers. Focused alot on the action of trailers as opposed to the rate of fall aspect. This is a great additional learning lesson.
Thank you sir for your time and effort. Your approach to teaching It's greatly appreciated
You are most welcome, Chris. It's comments like yours that keep me going.
Literally the greatest videos on youtube! Seriously never stop making these videos!
Thank you!
Down here in central Florida, I swear by a grass jig, usually black & blue, most often with a Junebug colored Gambler Mega Daddy Craw trailer, for catching most of my biggest bass. My current favorite for really thick grass is the "JT Kenny Grass Wizard" jig by Nichol's. With the proper rod, you can really pop that jig through, or out of really thick grass, better than any other I've tried. They are handmade here in the US, with all top quality components. Priced reasonably too. No store in my area sells them, so I order them directly from Nichol's via their website. They also make high quality, hand-made buzzbaits & spinner baits too..........oh, and spoons as well. Great company.
Jimmy, it's almost been a year. Where'd ya go? I miss seeing your videos, and wanna see more! In fact, I was hoping you'd explore the belief that a longer rods gives you more leverage. Based on what I remember in high school physics class, I'd say a longer rod is actually COSTING you leverage. What do you say?
@Jimmy Liao hope you are doing well sir. I haven’t seen any new content in a year? Would you make a video pertaining to the Lunkerhunt Phantom Spider? How likely are spiders common prey for fish like bass? What makes them target spiders and why?
I was literally just wondering about this sort of thing over the last couple days. Ty, liked and subscribed.
always informative videos , thanks for sharing . brings a new light to pitching and flipping trailers
Trying to bring some signal into the world amongst all the noise :)
Don’t stop making videos. They are very useful and very interesting keep up the great work
I love your videos, they teach me a lot how make a more efective fishing, thanks you.👏
You are more than welcome, thanks for your positive feedback!
@@fishcodestudios3576 thank you so much, i hope than keep making videos for so much time, thank you to all the team of fish code studios.

Please never stop uploading.
As long as I still have the time and funds, I won't!
Great channel! Keep going! Just subscribed.
Man I wait for your uploads you always have such good information.
Thanks Dave, trying to provide quality when I can!
Thanks. Jay Kumar turned me on to your discussion. I'll use the knowledge here in Montana on the Yellowstone River near Billings.
Thanks for posting informative videos for fisherman of all experience to learn from. Would you please settle the debate of to snell or not to snell flipping/pitching hooks for a better hook up ratio?
Great idea! It has been on my list for a while now but I need to assemble some things before I can do it right. Stay tuned....
How did I not know about this channel? This>Tacticalbassin
Spread the word Patrick, and thanks for watching!
@@fishcodestudios3576 already told my brother! We're fans
If using pork or pork rind with the fat attached, test it for floatability. Those that do float will really help slow the fall. Uncle Josh used to label those that floated, but don't any more. Thanks for this video, Jimmy.
These are so helpful and appreciated
This channel is amazing keep up the great work! Would love to see some stuff about other species too like pike Muskie trout striper etc
Thanks for that video I'm a jig kind of guy and I'm trying to get as close to a more natural flow as I can So thanks again I'll be watching
Very helpful thank you.
Wowwe!! Your videos should be showing in every High School classroom for our upcoming Bass Masters.
Most of us fishermen are drawing conclusions from extremely limited data. I love having some science in the game to give me a better understanding of at least a few variable. Your the Man!
Thanks Michael! Been busy but a few episodes are in the works and coming out--
How this man has only 10k subs is beyond me. This channel is worthy of so much more.
Please come back soon.
been anxiously waiting for another video 👍🏼👌🏼
Great stuff Jimmy!
Always enjoy your videos
Really cool and interesting video as always! Thank you for sharing
Great info Dr 👏
Wouldn't heavier line also slow the fall? Can you do a video on line # vs fall rate for the same bait on a pendulum? great content, instant subscriber!
Would love to see more videos!
I love your videos! I wish you would make more of them!!!
Hi Jimmy, just found your channel and I love this evidence based info. Please please put out more videos!! 🙏🙏🙏Subscribing in hopes that we see more. Appreciate your work!
I'm a firm believer in science. Since everything happens underwater, I have to go on faith that this bait or technique works. And faith is a distant 2nd to science in my opinion. Good video keep'em coming. Thank you.
Thanks for your feedback, Bruce!
It's basic hydrodynamics. Like with aerodynamics, how skydivers fall faster when they're tucked in and straight. Anything other than straight will be slower in comparison.
Side note, blindly accepting information because any stranger tells you to is dumb and poor excuse for laziness.
@@devdeque7846 Agree, I'm willing to go off of results. If I'm told how to do a new or different technique or bait I'm just gonna try it & base my opinion on results. I wouldn't call it laziness, taking time to study or research takes just as much time as a real time experiment.
Just found your video's and love this approach to fishing. Would like to see some videos in regards to fly fishing for bass. Maybe linked to whats happening when dead drifting patterns. Or every once in a while I overhear pro's saying how only sometimes does color matter but most of the time it action and placement.
Thanks for your feedback and suggestions, Stephen!
Love these videos
Super underrated channel!
Thanks! Please subscribe and spread the word!
Sensei. please come back! the world needs you.
Next video needs to be on best way to trim weed guard so it still functions as a weed guard, doesn't get too stiff, and maximizes hook up ratio. Great video! Always enjoy these.
Thanks for the idea Bob!
Such a great channel
Thanks Greg!
The first question that comes to mind is, if it's the ripple/wave effect that slows the fall, why did you not compare a trailer with big, wide action tails to one with smaller action tails? It would seem to make sense that the more plastic your waving, the bigger your parachute, so to speak.
But "seat of the pants science" tells me that especially in winter, when I'm banging bottom with a jig in 20 to 45 feet of water, the faster I can get it to bottom, and the harder it hits bottom when it gets there, the more efficient I'm going to be. And I measure efficiency by the number of bites and the size of the fish, not just by how many casts I can make. That's why I favor 1 oz and heavier jigs with large, straight tailed trailers for deep jig fishing.
Great observation Rich, and I agree. This episode was just trying to tease apart size/bulk from action. But among trailers with action, big action tails will slow a jig down more than small action tails.
Thanks 🙏🏾
0:01 Motor looking like the Scooby Doo mystery machine😂
Great Video!!! Cheers!! :))
Please post more!
Jimmy I would love to see you do a video on wether fish can hear a modern Chirp sonar.
Do you ever get push back from anyone on the information you put out? Just curious. I really enjoy the content on you channel.
Thanks! I don't that often but would actually welcome respectful feedback. People need to realize that science is a process, not an end point. Push back among different groups based on sound experiments and data are what drive science forward! I certainly don't have the final say, I'm just trying to contribute what I have found out so far.
What happened to the videos? Not putting them out anymore?
When does everybody like to fish ?do you guys follow patterns or ?
I've actually fished the jig for about 10 years before youtube. I really never used a trailer on it until recently. I've always caught fish without trailer.
Interesting!
@@fishcodestudios3576 I got an idea for you. The detailed lures (such as defined claws, ribs, leg joints, etc) vs plain lures (no detail) to see which lure bass prefer? I want to see the results.

Jimmy?! Where'd you go?
What happened to the fish that swallowed the hookless jig? I doubt a fish can shit a jig
The fish usually spits out the jig on its own. Otherwise the jig is on a line and pulled out.

Can you please, please for the love of all that is holy, disprove that bass can’t handle and don’t like sunlight because “they don’t have eyelids” the common urban legend and misinformation from everyone including pros is that bass use docks and heavy cover to hide their eyes from sunlight when in reality, they use that type of cover for protection and to ambush prey. Everyone hears pros saying this and believe it as the gospel but my wife’s a biologist and thinks it’s the stupidest things she’s ever heard she always says “they’re called the sunfish family for a reason!!!” but alas she isn’t into making nor can i beg her to make a fishing video on this lol Help?!
Your wife sounds like a smart woman! I feel your pain on this one. I'm trying to get episodes out as fast as I can, but alas, I'm a full time professor moonlighting as one-person, self-funded production crew!
fish code studios I understand 😞 lol but she is correct, yes? And thank you for taking the time to put these informative videos out. I many times recommended your channel and will continue to do so.
@@m2m-minutestomidnightbassi925 There is so much wrong with the eyelid statement I don't know where to begin-- perhaps most glaring is that the viewpoint comes from a lack of knowledge of eyelid evolution. Life evolved from the water, so fish were adapting to light levels just fine before terrestrial animals with eyelids entered the picture. Sure fish like shade, but as you point out there are many other correlated reasons. To judge the behavior of a fish based on what we experience as land animals is sloppy thinking.
