      I always loved Paul’s songs in KISS & he had my 2nd favorite solo album, 1st is Ace. I feel during the 70s he had the best voice of KISS, though I never really liked him as a person, outside of KISS

    This book really helped me out when I was bullied for having autism in grade 8 and I wasn’t helped by anyone because my teachers did nothing to help me and I was miserable for so long but after I read this book during the summer, I felt a lot better because I realized that we both in some ways are the same.
    We both were born with something that made us different from the others like with my autism and his microtia and we were bullied for having it. We both were miserable because of it and had self doubt problems from it but we both healed through helping others and playing music.
    Now I’m at a better school and in grade 10 and I’m a lot more confident than who I used to be and I’m in a great group called Show Choir and I perform at great music shows each year and I really want to become a rockstar thanks to him because he’s my idol now because of it
    Now for the book, I do appreciate your opinion on some things in the book but I don’t agree with some of the things like with Peter and Ace’s behaviour especially during the tours from 1996-2001 but I think your review was great. This is coming from a person who prefers the current lineup more than the original because I will never know what the original lineup was like but I still believe this was a great review

    • @raedroid1703
      @raedroid1703 4 роки тому +2

      Ok I understand and I’ve forgot to mention that if it’s coming from Paul and Gene than it’s most likely true. It’s my personal opinion and I know there are some points that leads to many arguments that I have a different opinion on and I got judged a lot for it so I’m not trying to start an argument but just to give my opinion and I won’t know the experience of the original lineup is what I’m trying to say because I’m almost 15 and I’ve only saw them once just this year in March so I do know what happened during the 70’s but I’ll never be able to experience it for myself

    • @raedroid1703
      @raedroid1703 4 роки тому

      Rick R look I don’t know that much ok? I’m almost 15 and I do understand both sides of the situations that happened but I don’t see this as a one sided view. Not everything in this book I can agree on like on Eric Carr death and how he handled it. I haven’t read the other members books yet so I don’t fully know my opinion yet but I don’t want to make you or anyone else feel bad about what I said and what I believe. Maybe I’m not ok with what he’s saying but until I read the other books, I might have a proper opinion. I also understand their struggles in their lives and I do respect them but I just don’t know about my opinion yet, so until I’m sticking with Paul on this on

    • @raedroid1703
      @raedroid1703 4 роки тому

      Rick R thanks. I’m just upset because a lot of people hate me for having different opinions on Kiss like how I prefer the current lineup more than the original lineup and one person even said something really offensive and I was trying not to get in that situation again. I’ve already seen a bit of both of them and I’ll try to see them again. But I kinda know everything on Kiss because I research it everyday but thanks for the suggestions anyway.

    This book made me lose a lot of respect for Paul. The almost obsessive criticisms of Peter (especially his playing) and the complete lack of responsibility for any of KISS's failures and short comings... as well as in his lack of self critique in even his personal life just seem unrealistic at times.

    I've listened to Peter's isolated drum tracks from the 70s...and EGAD, it's no wonder he adopted the persona of the Catman- because he was a BEAST!
    Paul talking crap about the drum solo on 100,000 Years and calling it boring just shows that he either failed to appreciate the subtle touches of Peter's jazz and swing influences or that he was just being butt-hurt.

  • @FrankFergusonN
    @FrankFergusonN 4 роки тому +16

    I've read Pauls and I felt like everything was always someone else's fault.
    Peter's book is more honest. He takes responsibility for his actions even when they were wrong. Paul's book at the end is basically about promoting the current line up of KISS as the Best lineup. Which is complete bullshit.

    34:20 I saw Kiss 10/24/92 at the Crown Arena in Fayetteville, NC. This was a 4500 seat capacity venue and appeared to be full. This was at a time when huge bands didn't come to Fayetteville. Metallica hadn't played there since the 80s, and Guns n' Roses didn't ever play. A band like Kiss could come play the Crown, pack the mini-arena, and do pretty good on concessions and merch tables.
    That said, there was a stigma of sorts for playing there. It usually meant you weren't doing hot enough as a band to pack Raleigh or Charlotte's 20-40k seat stadiums like GnR/Metallica, or like Kiss, pre-Dynasty. The concert earlier that week in the same venue was the Oak Ridge Boys, if that tells you anything. But it was still a big enough venue that they could do 90% of their pyro, and they sounded good.
    I was 11 years old, really liked _Revenge,_ but couldn't help but notice that everyone there was my parents age or older. If I went to see, say, Nirvana or Soundgarden, everyone was under age 27. Kiss very much seemed like your parents uncool boomer rock, and unable to connect with continuously younger audiences like Metallica.

    I was at the Rio de Janeiro 83 concert and stayed day and night at the Hotel lobby. I can tell you that Paul and Gene weren´t happy at all to be there, you could see it. Eric and Vinnie were smiling all the time. # By the way I have a great story in this period: All 4 went to a regular night club in Rio de Janeiro called Circus, then the DJ played I Love It Loud, everybody left the dancing area, so they called out the all the bodyguards to be in front of their seats, and left the place some minutes after. All 4 went straight to a strip bar called Barbarella. Eric invited a professional girl to his room at the Hotel and 1 hour after the girl starting screaming: " He doesn´t want to pay me, he is just showing me pictures!!" and the bodyguards paid the girl and she left, without being fucked !!

    Yeah I don't get all of the bashing of Peters drumming ability by Paul. If he wants to dog him for the drugs and alcohol and unreliability that's one thing. Quite frankly whenever he talks about English drummers and John Bonham, I cannot see how that style would fit into the songs that kiss was writing. Now as far as Peter's drumming goes, I don't like the sound of his drums on a lot of recordings. To me they sound thin or maybe not tuned properly, but I think it's playing is actually pretty damn good. Mike Portnoy who is a world-class drummer gives a lot of high praise to Peter Criss and his style.

    • @muziktrkr
      @muziktrkr Рік тому

      Portnoy just did a tour with Petrucci and they got along great. It wasn't billed as a "Dream Theater Reunion". A lot of people liked it when Gene and Paul toured solo because they did songs they didn't do in KISS. Ace is a road dog but yeah there are shows that get uneven from time to time because he's getting up there in years and doesn't have the KISS budget where he has smoke and mirrors to fall back on.

    Hard to believe Creatures of the Night was KISS' worst selling album, but I do remember it being a fact back in the day. Their next album sure landed them back on the map in a big way! Sad, as Creatures was more or less Lick it Up's equal if not its superior. As for the book, I've listened to the whole thing via scads of videos. Sad that Paul is so down on everyone who helped put him where he is today.

    Ralph, I had to sub, I do appreciate your take on the good and the bad, you won't cut off your little toe cause you hate your foot. as far as kiss goes I was there from 75' seen the alive 2 tour as my first of about 12-15 concerts, meeting paul twice hot shade tour, and book signing. in 78' I was 14 the whole event was amazing, music of course too. as I got older I came to focus on paul's voice, was my favorite voice, grew up in hair band era, so had many other bands I enjoyed too, long story short,,, paul has giving us decades of high register and falsetto, 17' end road tour seen in AL. it was painful, and I felt terrible , overall. he can/ should honestly put it to rest. he gave us soo much ,as a front man. now he is not giving the fans what they deserve. thanks.. for your content.

    Doc, grab a beer this one might be long lol. As of my writing this I have NOT watched your video yet. In 1977 I discovered KISS and have been a fan ever since. Paul was NOT my favorite member, he seemed to "girly" to me, he seemed to focused on looking good for the gals, maybe guys, in the audience. Peter and Ace were always my favs, especially Peter. I read Ace's book first, then Peter's then Paul's , Mary hadn't put one out LOL. I did read Gene's book but it is not even worth mentioning lol. Here is what I concluded after reading all three, within about a 6 month time period btw.
    Ace, didn't really surprise me, I didn't like some of what I read but I knew he was being honest. Paul's book I went away with a much greater understanding and appreciation for the Starchild and Peter's book, well Peter is now my least favorite member and I feel so lied to all those years I thought he was one way only to find out he is not at all like his persona he puts on when the camera's are rolling. Peter's book showed me that basically everything bad that had been said about him was true. Why do I care how big his pecker is? When a man has to talk like that he shows his immaturity and for a man of his age to still be doing it shows me he has some real issues.When I read the parts where Peter was laughing in his book about getting even with Paul during the concerts of the reunion tour by slowing down then speeding back up, that did it for me!! You do not make your audience pay for your inner band turmoil and Peter had no problem doing that which shows that yes, he is the mean spirited little douchebag that Paul and Gene have been saying he is all along. Ace confirmed much of this in his own book as well. So Peter is one that I NEVER want to see back in the KISS makeup, he does not deserve to wear it and he does not deserve the love he gets from KISS fans worldwide!
    Paul's book showed me a man who has always felt out of place and allowed certain people to use him and to walk all over him, former bandmates come to mind as well as his ex wife. Paul persevered and is now stronger than ever and I commend him for it. Paul's book showed me that even though we think these guys are in command of their lives, they really might not be. I will shorten this up for ya, i'm sure your beer is getting warm lol. Now Paul is still not my favorite member, but he is the one I most respect and admire. Paul is also the ONE member of KISS I will say kept it all together. Peter, Ace and Gene all bailed when things looked brighter, but not Paul!! So when we see the KISS reunion of 96, that is because of Paul, Revenge is because of Paul, ALL of the 80's is because of Paul and now the end of the road is because of Paul. Gene got lucky and got a partner like Paul. Paul has become more vocal since writing his book, he took charge of KISS because of his book and I should also add - I think his wife Erin had a lot to do with Paul finding his strength and himself.

    I read all 4 books and though I lay blame for a lot of their misfortune on the authors, I also felt compassion, sympathy and love but only for the other three that are not Paul. Of the 4, Paul is the only one who believes himself to be perfect and blameless. The other 3 had excuses, of course, but Paul truly believes everyone else is shit, and that he's the only victim of misfortunes in his life. Donna Dixon was not a stupid woman when she rejected his marriage proposal. She saw right through his neurotic bullshit. In Paul's book, no one is safe from his backstabbing criticism. A phookyng qunnt in all manners and ways.

    Bro, thanks for shooting us straight here on the sheer abundance of unpleasant statements & KISStoric redrafts Paul makes in his book(s) (and anytime a mic comes in from of his head since like '87) like he's in a constant state of paranoid denial of reality, past & present ... it's hard on a guy who just wants to like them still ... but no one escapes his ire ...from Slash to anyone whose ever worked with the band, in any capacity .... and that's fine, he's Mr. Speed but the fact that he won't even give Ace & Peter any heartfelt credit as to why KISS's early records were so great (like he'd rather no one actually find out if they missed!!!) boggles my mind!! Paul, have you heard Alive!? Insufficient data Starchild? Last thing, Paul's statement the other day about Peter Criss's life being miserable, saying he couldn't live a life like Peter's where (paraphrasing) it's always 'him against the world' was the very pinnacle of KISSpocrisy. What a drag man. We've hit Rock Bottom and we're here to stay. Regrettably, KISStorian Dave (BTW, "Keep Me Comin'" sounded awesome!)

    If you’ve read all 4 books you may have arrived at the conclusion that these are 4 coworkers or associates who worked towards a common goal but were never true friends. All have unresolved psychological issues, but Paul Thtanley’s morbid narcissism bordering on sociopathy is alarming. This is the only book in which although I admire the man’s talent and work ethic, I just can’t like him as I do the other three. There is nothing real about this man.

    Paul introducing Peter like he had to teach him the basics of music theory & practice, yet he had already co-written & recorded an album with Chelsea, an album from which Kiss mined their biggest hit of the 70's. Paul's always trying to paint Peter & Ace in a negative light to make himself look like rockgod personified. He knows more than anybody about "throwing people under a bus", this book is proof of that. Eric Copycat & Tommy Yesman? 😉 Paul Stanley is the last person to criticize anybody about solos, remember his woeful embarrassing guitar solo from the Animalize:Live Uncensored video? 😂 And that was in his prime, I won't even begin with his voice for at least the last decade plus! Neil Peart started using flange effects on his drum solo after they toured with Kiss, for example. Making subtle nasty digs for cheap laughs at Eric Carr's expense, as well as Carrie Stevens, FFS Stanley helped send him to an early grave, has he no dignity or respect for the dead? He conveniently lied about the circumstances surrounding Eric's firing in his book, Kiss Corp were sending lawyers to chase Eric to sign the termination contract so they could stop paying his medical insurance & sign Mensinger to contract while he was undergoing treatment with the ordeal of his life, that is why the restraining order was issued, Eric refused to sign it & never did. From all reports Eric was locked out of the studio while they recorded the overrated 'Revenge' record, Eric's worst fear & suspicions became true, he was being replaced by Mensinger, a fact that Paul had lied to his face about when he confronted him. For the record I started playing drums because of Peter Criss & that Alive! solo, I worshipped them as a 4-year old kid & it was my gateway to music, my bedroom was a Kiss shrine & I had Catman's doll but even back then as an impressionable kid Paul Stanley was my least favourite member. Now I know why. Sure he is the heart & soul of the band, but he wrote just as much bad cliché bullshit music as Gene in the 80's & he wasn't distracted, so what's his excuse? Mark St. John/Norton played 2&1/2 shows on the Animalize tour 👍 And yes all the original members are hypocrites, I saw Kiss in 2001 with the Ace Frehley/Eric Singer line-up & next time was the underwhelming 2003 Symphony with Peter Criss/Tommy Thayer, so both only have a problem with it when it suits them. I agree the book is a very good read, even if it may be exaggerated fiction. There's real history & then there's Kisstory! Respect Dr.Fukk 🤘

  • @toms4442

    I think the stories the Paul told about Eric make him a schmuck! I have read the book and the stories he tells about Eric doesn't add anything to his book. The only thing that I can think of clearly is that Eric was a fan favorite and he knows this so to me it's just Paul attempt to bring him down a few pegs. Also the bill aucoin stuff if true Unforgivable but the man is dead and is unable to defend himself I can understand I'm giving up dirt on a sand Peter and Jean because that is what the publisher wants the bits about Eric does not add to the book any information about Bill aucoin, if you were that concerned back then you should have reported him at this point keep it to yourself! Pause book is a good read but I like it less of the four Asus book is a little bit more random with stories not really going in any kind of order I like genes book because I enjoy a good laugh! I thought Peter had the best book along with everybody else just because of his honesty and the fact that he's willing to accept blame when the blame is his shows his growth as a person.

      Ace in his book was the complete opposite. 🙆‍♂️
      He invited his friends and families and had them arrive in limousines so they could all share the success, fun and experience.
      You're right re: Paul Stanley suckin' on cigars and 'eating motza ball soup' after selling out the Gardens in '77.

    They sold out Madison Square Garden as a solo act on the current tour back in March and they sold out the show I went to at PPG Paints arena in Pittsburgh. Granted it's probably because they're playing the farewell card again. Madison Square Garden isn't really that big. Only 13,000. I've seen them fill up amphitheaters that hold 22,000. Not quite sold out shows but still filled up the majority of them. And no I'm not a huge scab defender. I'd rather it be Ace than Tommy any day

I think another Pittsburgh arena show was about sold out on the Sonic Boom tour but Buckcherry was opening so that helped. Other than that the only other sold out solo tour show was in Youngstown Ohio on the Rock The Nation Tour but that's an arena that only holds 7000. I'm with you though.
