This tutorial is amazing! And thanks for making me a curator on the studio!
I was waiting for this one, I've become obsessed with the little Geometry Dash scratch community :o
Thank you for getting people so excited about gamedev
It's time to make a video on GriffPatch making a gd scratch tutorial video
No way I was looking for your comment and it only has 1 like lol
Didn’t except you to be here
@@RandomBloonStuff totally expected tbh
here before hearted comment
4:46 One small detail is that the credit actually goes to ForeverBound, the composer. RobTop just used it in his game with ForeverBound’s permission.
Lol, fact check... I wish I'd known that!

When I look for scratch tutorials on UA-cam, I see projects with 20 variables. Your video explains everything in a simple way.
All of your tutorial series get better and better every time! my family loves this channel, and it helps my son watches it like crazy! keep up the good work!
man, you uploaded this after the game's 10 years anniversary! your videos never disappoint me, furthermore surprising! You are soooo dedicated to scratch!

you have helped me learn so much about coding in scratch, my friends play your geometry dash game in school all the time and now I can make my own version! thank you so much
Griffpatch, without you, I wouldn’t be able to code anything. You have made me an insane scratcher :)
Hello Fellow Scratchers! This Is Part 2 in Coming Soon Everyone!
🎉🎉
That"s so great! Thanks so much bro, with you i can do everything in Scratch! Your "Geometry Dash" in scratch is wonderfull!!))
Perfect timing!I've waited ages to see this
so well timed for the tenth anniversary, as a cataclysm victor and a scratcher i see this as an absolute w. very excited for the next tutorial, this one is very beginner friendly.
I’ve loved GD so much. And then you proceeded to upload this and help us make it ourselves. You’re always one step ahead of us griffpatch, keep up the good work!
me too
You mean 10 giant steps ahead of us

its gd's 10th anniversary now

11:30 half of me was expecting an explanation of modular arithmatic which would probably be a smidge faster but this is easier to understand and gives exactly the same results.
I followed your tutorial as much as I could & just posted what I made on Scratch. Looking forward to learning more!
i hope there is a part 2, recreating the other gamemodes would be very cool to do
agree
I did it and it was very easy. remember, the reason that tutorials exist, is not so that you can copy it, but so that you can learn more about scratch.
@@FreddyFazbearYo yeah its not like i cant make anything more, ufo is pretty easy to make, but ship might be difficult
@@erykovskyy4780ship is just ufo but you dont have to keep clicking, it is easy

Really well made! Keep up the amazing work griffpatch!
This was so much fun to make. Thanks Griffpatch!
Endless scrolling without global and local variables and mod-operators. So simple and yet so clever and well illustrated.
i would love for this to be a series. i mean. there is so much stuff in the original game
Geometry Dash's 10th anniversary just struck, and WOW, here's a Griffpatch tutorial on how to make the game on Scratch ! I am going to follow this. Like, right now. Also, for the songs, they aren't made by RobTop (except some). They are mostly made by ForeverBound, DJVI, Waterflame, F-777, DJ-nate, MDK, Step, Kevin Macleod and Hinkik (I think these are all). Benn playing the game since 2018, it's good to see you made a tutorial on it ! This comment is getting way too long so I'll stop there XD
And how about my boy Kevin Macleod? He made all the shop themes :(
@@ShandorOMG Lol, I forgot
@@startFXAlso you forgot the creator of ToE, ToE2 and Electrodynamix.
I've been waiting for this type of series for years! Im so glad it has finally come true!!!! :D
I would just like for you to at least follow some 1 suggestion of mine, do a series for a rhythm game or a first person shooter (something like shockwave 2 or your laser tag game). Other suggestions are put all your dev logs into a tutorial since they are sooooo cool or add more to ray-casting series like multiplayer or guns or jumping, maybe stairs, items you can pick up or an option for 3rd person, ultimately making an open world 3D RPG! Btw sorry for all these suggestions, it probably makes me look like I’m not satisfied with all the super hard work you are doing but I am beyond it, so keep up the work 😊.
The king of scratch, i must say your Lemonoids project inspired me to come back to scratch and start remaking an old project of mine, and i just love seeing the clever solutions to problems that come up during development of these games
Epic video as always and really well explained, you never dissapoint!❤
Thank you!
@@griffpatchyo griffpatch whats your hardest in this game?
Why is this so popular lol

I love this channel and Griffpatch. You teach in a way that people can understand. Keep up the good work.
Can't wait for Part2! Btw this was the coolest thing I've ever built on here
There is already Part 2 Link in description ( ua-cam.com/video/Zjt01j90crc/v-deo.html
You never seem to fail your fellow scratchers, I love your videos and your work. Keep up the good work 👍
Such a cool video! Im so excited for next episodes, i would really like to see some other gamemodes like ship, wave or spider! Also i cant imagine the level design with sync, cuz geometry dash is really focused on sync with music and level, but im pretty sure you will find some way to do it, cuz the idea of having only 2 clones trough a whole level is actually pretty genius, it will be really optimized. Keep it up men, how i said, im so excited for new episodes!
I think it would be really cool if you made a video about snap. It could just be some video where you mess around with it, showing some of the advanced things it can do, as well as the things it can't do (e.g. it's not very fast, so it's harder to create games). This would be a one off video, just to show scratchers who are thinking of getting a bit more advanced what they can move to.
Hey! awesome tutorial, I know this could be a little of a hustle for you to respond every comment, but was following the tutorial, and got a little lost at the whole clone section, I mean everything is working fine but can't wrap my head around the logic of the "When I Start as a clone" don't understand the function by itself, are we making two clones and the real is never there? also why do I create two clones of myself? we hide the real and show two clones? is what I'm guessing? in that case why not work with the original? I know is a lot of questions to answer through text but yeah been searching for some help in the internet about this logic but not as explanative as you tutorial tho. Tnx anyway!
I saw Geometry Dash and immediatly clicked. I have been wanting to make GD in scratch for a LONG time, and you finally showed me how! :D
This was actually amazing, thanks for making this video!

thanks griffpatch, this could actually HELP ME. your my fav scratch youtuber. keep it up.
Cool, Griffpatch. I will try to make a scratch project like that!
While following along, I have been making things accurate and when I reached the spike part, I thought of using a separate Level Sprite to be the actual hitboxes while the second Sprite shows the visuals. I hope you consider this to make these tutorials even better!
That's exactly how you need to think :) and that's also how I would do it!
@@griffpatchif you do the hitbox things, are you going to base the hitboxes on the actual game’s hitbox?
ofc he will (maybe)@@natemontoya7907
@@natemontoya7907Actual game's hitbox means you die after going 37% into a spike 💀
This is why we like griffpatch. Not only does he explain in full detail including the outcomes and mistakes that could happen, but he shows every tiny detail within a quick time. Props to you man for coming all this way to help scratchers who want to become better at scratch.
I don't know how he does it... He makes things seem so quick and fun! Its like a never ending series of fun educational joy!
IF YOU REVERSE BACK ON TRACK IT SOUNDS SICK
Bro I remember trying to make my own geometry dash and I made like 100 different versions that all didn't have much functionality. Hopefully with griffpatch making a tutorial we can see a rise in proper geometry dash projects, especially since 2.2 is in a few months
Happy GD10! I'd love to see the full blown editor in Scratch, but I'm not sure anyone's up to the challenge. I'm interested to see what Scratch recreations of GD look like once 2.2 releases!
There are many editor projects on scratch and they're really cool. I also have one myself!

Ooh man, This brings me nostalgia. RobTop has made very good games.
Thank you griffpatch for this amazing coding! This is one of the most helpful videos I could see so I could code a jumping character! Your the best! Thank you, griffpatch! 😀

Thanks for the tutorial. It was really good and I'm excited for episode 2!!!
Keep up the amazing work griffpatch!
yeah he should to make money for his family and him
Decided to start this series because the game I'm currently working on is similar to GD. Curious to see how I can implement the concepts showcased in this series.
One thing I want to say: It's better to use a separate sprite for the spikes and danger. Also please introduce hitboxes for the dangers, since you die when touching the sides of blocks
touching the side of blocks also kills you in geometry dash
@@furrydoggolol shut. this comment is old

Just asking are u gonna add a editor like your ver
Cuz I want to make a level editor 😄
hes gonna make 2.2 before RobTop lol
I, love how complex things became simple with you Griffpatch :D
Once 2.2 comes out, you NEED to make those main levels in scratch that way i can play in school
bad news
this feels like a beginners tutorial and i’m all for it
Great tutorial! It has that very nice griffpatch quality I love! Is it possible you were inspired by one of my older geometry dash tutorials? Some aspects seem kind of similar, I would love to know!
I purposefully didn't watch any tutorials before making this one :) - but I can bet it will be similar to a lot of these kinds of games :). Maybe when I'm done I will because it will be so interesting to compare, bit until then is better stay away lol
❤
You did it 2 years ago @ScratchGenius ! Love it!
Hello, griffpatch, can you make a video about animating a characters body parts (like your character can have facial expressions while running or jumping and these animations are independent from the running cycle, but face still follows the heads movement) you can add accessories on top of the character using clones) or adding boss battles with different movements to games? I have been struggling to make these optimized and work for months
Also sometimes my characters need to have reaction animation like when pulling a lever or pressing a button, drinking or eating something. These animations should prevent other animations from starting
Sounds fun
Griffpatch, my dream is to play geometry dash but I cant, but when you made a tutorial on this game I can finally play it by following your tutorial and making it on scratch. thankyou for making this video you are the best
TY for making this! Really helped, man!

Griffpatch is GREAT; I got 9th in an IKCC scratch coding competition because I learnt so much from him.
Can't believe you've joined Scratch 10 years ago, and Geometry Dash was created 10 years ago 🤣

My backpack has sort of become a library--A very trashy library. You see, i thought it was for keeping permanent backups/storage of the things i put into it, and since then, it has piled up with more and more. I believe this is irreversible. Yeah. i don't know how this is related, but i just decided to share this with you all. Have a great day/night!
i love all of your tutorials❤
I love how as I’m watching this for the first time, episode 3 comes out
Great tutorial! But I have a question: Does the game still work properly if I use a tile-based level instead of a hand-drawn one?
This man continues to blow my mind away
This is the coolest Scratch project in the world. Thanks Griffpatch
Great video! Also, did you know you can give a sprite a black / white effect? All you need to do is set the color effect to (1 divided by 0) I'm not the one who found out about this. His name is McVicient (sorry if I spelled your name wrong).
Edit: spelled channel wrong. It's actually McVincient.
Great video, thank you! Looking forward to the next part.
Now Colon has to make scratch in geometry dash
My young brother will love this when im done
If you need to make speed changes, change the scroll speed to whatever you'd like!
