EVH 5150 Overdrive as GAIN boost

Short demo comparison of my EVH 5150 overdrive as gain boost. A very versatile pedal. Noisegate is very responsive and the pedal can work as a standalone high distortion or as an overdrive for low gain stuff or as a gain boost.

is the 5150 good as a boost? here in the video it looks good, I noticed that you left the bass of the peso at zero, that makes it tighter right?

Hi! One question worries: is this mxr 5150 just an overdrive effect or a full-fledged preamp? This is important because I want to use it as a booster for the amplifier in the red channel without unnecessary degradation in tone.

Works best with a Plexi that doesnt have much gain

Boosting an evh 5150 overdrive pedal. I highly suggest boss sd1 wqzq craft, precision drive, maxon od808 or 808x and mxr badass overdrive. These are my go to overdrive pedals. Good thing about the evh pedal is that the noise gate handles gain stacking really well. My setup is clean of noise. Also you can use the evh 5150 pedal as an od gain boost. Just play the gain channel at around 5% tp 10% to get thr chugs. I hope this helps

i have evh5150 . but i dont know where to use it, because its too noisy. hmm or perhaps its broken idont know

Should not be noisy given it has a built in noise gate. Try changing your cable or power supply.

my cable just fine because when i turn it off using other overdrive is not noisy ( planet wave any way), hmmm and am using battery. gonna make some video for it. btw noise gate it does the job after playing but when am playing it ... just cannot hear the sound so harsh.@@eymardguerrero

Hi bro, sorry di ako makapag comment sa combination nila kasi never ko pa natry. Pero based sa experience maganda maxon pang boost ng gain channel para mas tight ang sound
