Pete Thorn is a guitar players' guitarist....he may not be a household name, but most guitarists know and love his style. Crazy good chops and awsome demos. What i love most tho is he seems to be a down to earth guy, with no apparent ego. Rare for a guy with that much talent.much respect!!!
As far as a 2nd boost button, always room for a MXR 5150 V2. But as is, I've owned this pedal since it came out and its still phenomenal and I still love it.
this one demo song just made me smile... Pete, i've been following you for years now, this is one of those just nailed tracks, like the carl martine plexitone and the suhr corso. love it.
Pete, you're such a great player. Just incredibly fun and inspiring play to watch. Thanks for all of your videos. When I want to see a guitar demo, I always check to see if you've done one first. I'm sure you've sold a LOT of gear for these companies cause you make it all sound so damn good. Rock on, man 🤘
I absolutely love your style...You are proof that if you put the time into playing, you sound as good as you do...Thanks for the great review, and keeping Eddy's sound alive!!
I'm a little late to the party but this is what I needed to see. My use for the 5150 OD would be as shown in the early segment of this video... I want to put it in front of an already slightly overdriven tube amp that already has a little gain and little breakup. Then stomp the 5150 and get medieval with it. Thanks for a great video and fantastic playing as always!🤘
I used to own a 5150 III half stack and a 5150 III 50 watt combo and have played through a 5150 II combo so I know the 5150 tones pretty well and this is the first demo Ive heard that this pedal ACTUALLY sounds like a 5150 amp coming through a clean channel. Amazing. You just sealed the deal for me on this one!
Pete Thorn I was not even aware of that,iv'e told a few friends to check out your channel, and they love it as well.Do you still reside in Canada?and can i come by and borrow a few pedals for about a year or two......lol. Anyways, like i said you have a great channel, always enjoy your uploads. Thanks Dave
I just bought this pedal because of you. No one else on you tube does it justice. In fact, if you look at the comments of the other videos, they talk about Pete Thorn's video. I can't agree more. Thank you!
Dude, this is amazing! Stumbled onto this from Twitter and sat mesmerized watching this video. Very, very cool. Your playing is incredible. And the heaviness, oh man, the heaviness, I wanna hear much more! Thanks for doing these.
Pete you always have the most creative and best sounding product demos. The tones, production etc is superb. What I like the most is that all of your videos show that you took ur time to get familiar with the gear and present it in a prqctical playing scenario which is super helpful. Keep rockin Thorn \m/...Guitar Nerd 2 coming soon?
Excellent playing, editing, sound, riffs, explanation, etc. I usually hate gear reviews and this is the first one I made it all the way through. You rock
Love the solo at the end with a very good delay!!! Awesome Demo Pete! not only being able to play guitar well gets the job done, you have to get a good overdrive and then know how to set that DELAY just right to make MAGIC! Like Pete!
that was an amazing demo. You need to form a hard rock band that showcase killer licks and leads like the good ol days. Modern rock scene is lacking guitar heroes. You could lead the way to a renaissance in rock n roll.
Pete, I'm so glad you did this. I bought the pedal the day after seeing video #1 and I couldn't agree more with your take that it can do classic VH in addition to the modern stuff. Oh and by the by, you really outdid yourself with the chops on this demo - smoking!
Awesome demo Pete. I finally bit the bullet and ordered this. Been wanting one since they first came out. It’s nice to see that it can do not only the brown sound but some heavier tones as well. Quite a versatile overdrive.
Great video Pete! I think this petal shines in the hi gain spectrum, and that intro proved it in spades. I also appreciate it's over all versatility that you so well demonstrated. The holy grail "brown sound" is a mythical tone for sure. I hear a closer match in Wampler's attempt, but that may just be my battered ears. I'm an intermediate riffer and strummer (drummer & bassist foremost) at best, who in my younger days would dime the gain, scoop the mids, and overall ruin my tone. Having matured in those respects and gone back recently and re-listened to albums... Soundgarden's "Down the upside" just for one example, I've realized so much that I was missing, and the lack of respect I was giving to overall gain structure. It's not as easy as just cranking the Marshall to 11. He He..It's really amazing what the modern pedal market has to offer in respects to amp like tone and feel. Enough to keep you busy for ages I'm sure! Your demos are some of the best on the web IMO. You rock man!!
3:13 when you turned it down there, it sounded a lot like VH’s rhythm sound with that sort of clean and dirty at the same time kinda vibe. Wish I could hear that more. Something special going on there.
I had made the first video for this pedal, really trying to cop early Van Halen sound, and it was Ed that actually asked me if I could make another one but with heavier parts/tones. So this is what I came up with! :)
@@PeteThorn wow! I never knew Ed asked you to do this second demo. I think that’s so awesome that he had such a hands on approach to his company. I finally got a Wolfgang guitar and in the owners manual there’s a little note from Ed on how he cares for his guitars. The man was such a huge rock star but he never stopped loving and being passionate about playing the guitar. I know I speak for millions of us; I will miss him for the rest of my life.
@@PeteThorn I've been here before but didn't comment on it. Amazing that you did such a great job on the first one imo for the vintage EVH tone, and he wanted you to do a heavier one for the super high gain style that he didn't really delve into so much, although parts of Amsterdam are pretty filthy, lol, but to show others it's range for heavier metal styles. EVH, legend that we will miss dearly forever.
Love the tone of this pedal but I just wish the boost was foot switchable so I can dial in a great rhythm sound and then have the boost for leads. That's why I'm kinda leaning in to get the Wampler pinnacle deluxe. It has a similar tone but has two foot switches, one for on and off and another for the boost.Anyway great demo it's definitely one of the best on youtube.
All the videos I watch, the pedals are set just right of center. I agree. This gives me the ability to have a great platform sound and can get different sounds just utilizing volume and treble on guitar...works well on a Tele and Wolfgang...
I have been a gear freak all my life, the first real pedal I bought was an original Tube Screamer back in the early 80's to get Dave Murray's tone from the Number Of The Beast. I have had dozens on top of dozens of OD/Distortion pedals since. I briefly toyed around with the Blackstar HT series pedals, they're good. But this pedal is like the Holy Grail of the high gain pedals. I am just now getting familiar with it to get it to make whatever sounds I am after, but I have ended my quest (until something better comes along) Your music cave is quite impressive too! Liked and subbed.
Too late….already order this pedal due to your first video! Great job on showing the versatility of how this pedal can cut and hit like a sledge hammer at the same time. Great video Pete!
Dude, your demo riffs are better than anything to come out of mainstream rock radio in the past 20 years. You rip man.

boogieplex thanks! I try and keep it real! :)
The more Pete Thorn videos I watch, the more I'm convinced he's one of the truly great modern Rock guitar players.
Still not 50k subs. Pete does the best gear review on the internet!
+deliveryboy555 Thanks man! Please share if ya dig it, I appreciate it!
+Pete Thorn I like that song Pete. It has a classic sound but modern at the same time. Very nice !
The only thing MXR missed (IMO) was that the boost button should have been a 2nd footswitch.
+IShldHavBghtaSqrl Totally agree with you! Don't understand why they chose such a small button to activate it. Other than that, a great pedal!
Can we suggest it to mxr company?
Jay Nartz I’ll put it this way, I’m probably going to sell mine in favor of the Friedman BE-OD Deluxe for that reason
As far as a 2nd boost button, always room for a MXR 5150 V2. But as is, I've owned this pedal since it came out and its still phenomenal and I still love it.
I wonder if there's room in the casing to mod a switch for this. :)
pete, im a blues guy but watching you and listening to you really inspires me to play some hard shit.
Never boring, always impressive....outstanding musicianship
I don't know, the pedal is great, but I watch this channel because of the guitarist. He is something else.
those are some seriously solid riffs in the opening jam
...and just when you thought , "yea, but, I haven't seen a satisfactory demo of this one"....
Along comes Pete.....
Every time!...
:)
That intro riffage makes me believe in heavy guitar playing and time again. We need this kind of playing modern rock n roll.
+truce11 Thanks man I'll put something heavy like this on my next album :)
+Pete Thorn Are there tabs available for that main metal riff? It's excellent.
this one demo song just made me smile... Pete, i've been following you for years now, this is one of those just nailed tracks, like the carl martine plexitone and the suhr corso. love it.
The phrasing of that lead you rip at the 1 minute mark is soooooo juicy. Cool demo. Thanks Pete!
Thank u!
You do the best product demos.
+Wiser InTime thank you sir!
I'm only here for Pete's playing🎸
Pedal sounds great🎶
That riff though🎵❤
Me too. I care little what he played through, or what guitar he uses. It's his music.
This guy can jam! 😎👍🏻
Oh man, forget the pedal, that intro was badass! Cool riff! 🤘🤘
Your intro is mesmerizing with that off beat strumming. Hoping there's a full version song.

Pete.. Your playing gets better and better with every video you post. Great job.
This is how you do a demo. Great playing.
Aside from a great demo video, you're an amazing player. I just bought this unit and it just melts faces.
Thanks man!
Pete you have a great channel, love watching all your uploads. Thanks for sharing your passion and your knowledge.
+Canadian Guitar Hack Thanks, fellow Canadian!

Pete, great job and great playing!!!
Hi Pete! You are really the best gear demonstrator around...
Every piece in your hands sounds the way it should!! Rock on!!
+Marco Nati thank you Marco!

Thanks, I hope you are digging the pedal!
Oh, absolutely! Stark difference between this and my Caitalinbread Dirty Little Secret.
Pete plays sicker riffs and licks in a UA-cam demo video than most guitarists can cut on a studio album
IM GLAD YOU DID A DEMO ON THIS BECAUSE YOU REALLY MADE IT SOUND WORTH BUYING.
the song in the beginning of video is unbelievable
thank u sir!
love the fact you demo'd without an emulate. That sounded great man
Pete, you're so good it's ridiculous, buddy.
Tremendous jam Pete and it surly show's this EVH has a lot to give,I think it stands on top
Dude looks like he's having a blast making this video.Awesome!
evhfanatic I was! :)
Merry Christmas man!
0:44 riff is awesome!
Great review Pete. Thanks for this. I like that you let us hear the amp a couple of times during the video without the pedal before clicking it on.

+BatFan1 thanks man :) One of these days, maybe a band will happen...
+Pete Thorn I agree. you'd be like the new van halen ahahahah
Now THIS is how you review a pedal. Your the man Pete. The manufactures need to watch you they would sell every thing they had. 🤙
Thanks for demo-ing that 5150 Pete!
This intro song is amazing, thums up Pete! The 5150 MXR pedal is really really good
Pete, I'm so glad you did this. I bought the pedal the day after seeing video #1 and I couldn't agree more with your take that it can do classic VH in addition to the modern stuff.
Oh and by the by, you really outdid yourself with the chops on this demo - smoking!
+Eric Vinson Thanks Eric, glad you are happy with the pedal!
Damn! That intro song was so good!
Great demo!! I played this thing the other day I must get one.. Its Epic!
What a monster player and monster tone. Amazing!
Connor Pitts-West thanks!
Thanks for giving this pedal another run through, I was left wondering a lot from the first video.
Great demo, thanks for dialing in the tones!
I like how each note and individual string is present even in transition to other notes. Killer pedal.
Now, if I could only play like you...
Love watching your videos Pete especially with you and Tim Pierce. You are an amazing player and do a great job of reviewing gear!!
Great tone. Heavy without a ton of gain dialed in. Love it! You have a great playing style. Keep it up Sir!
Go Pete. Awesome, never heard you play like this before.
Awesome demo Pete. I finally bit the bullet and ordered this. Been wanting one since they first came out. It’s nice to see that it can do not only the brown sound but some heavier tones as well. Quite a versatile overdrive.
I'm sold Pete. Seems like the pedal to get for "that" sound ...and more.
ABSOLUTELY VICIOUS GUITAR 🎸 PLAYING
Wow, that intro riff, Pete! Killer! Nice vid as always!
Amazing sound Pete Thorn!
One of the best guitarists out there. Period.

Wow!!! No words ,just a great playing as usual!
total class act always a pleasure to listen you ...You have a great ear for tone..
Nice! Really like the intro song and the tone guitar on it.
What a killer opening riff! Your playing around 4:30 reminded me a lot of Nuno Bettencourt's kind of sound. Great sounds here!
I’ve had one of these pedals for years and got to say , if you can’t get killer tones out of it it’s definitely down to user error .
The lead tone is cool, the distortion sound is very 90s with crunchy crunch going on.! Quite versatile pedal.!
3:13 when you turned it down there, it sounded a lot like VH’s rhythm sound with that sort of clean and dirty at the same time kinda vibe. Wish I could hear that more. Something special going on there.
I love your demos for the jams!
The intro tune sounds a little Tool-y with those staccato note patterns. Love it!
I had made the first video for this pedal, really trying to cop early Van Halen sound, and it was Ed that actually asked me if I could make another one but with heavier parts/tones. So this is what I came up with! :)

My favorite, thanks Pete thorn. this peddle stands up.
Great playing/demo as ever Pete, funky haircut too Sir!
Awesome demo! Just awesome!
Fantastic tone!

+Lymanization thank you sir
Your playing reminds me a lot of Nuno Bettencourt's in this video.
i always come back to listen the intro song its great!!
Nice shredding at the beginning. I was rocking my head back and forth while driving down the freeway, ha.
Bought this pedal solely based on this demo. LOVE the into song!
What an awesome demo song Pete, just brutal!
Love the intro tune! Great demo, looks like a great OD/ Dist. MXR is going to sell a ton of them. Again, great demo.
Loving this demo. Great sound. Great player. Subscribed.
I have to admit... much better sounding pedal and gain than I expected.

great HD sound and video Pete, you are back again! PD: what audio processor do you use? and what video editor?
