For any would-be neck lifters complaining about my latest video, case-in-point: this kind of movement is impossible even for literally the strongest humans. 30kg is *a lot* to do this with, but it's not at all like you see in the movies ua-cam.com/video/xGZwmxYSkO4/v-deo.html
there must be something with leverage or whatever that can be consciously or subconsciously exploited because I've seen it done before irl. Not for as long as movies do it but enough for people to be stunned, then scared, then rush over and break it up. Also, isn't it fairly common in pro wrestling? yeah yeah it's fake I know but it's not fake in the way a movie is. If they take a flying leap, the wrestler really made that jump. If they're lifted, the wrestler really lifted them. They're just very well trained in HOW to do it easily and (as much as can be) safely. it's not like they're wearing a wire harness or are CGI or anything. I think this is a case of math not covering every case on its own.
Kyle, you're obviously very smart, and you clearly know more than I do about things like motion and engineering. But a human isn't a statue. Couldn't they avoid potentially tipping over by also using the muscles in their legs to apply force in a reverse direction, thereby stabilising themselves? Obviously, it's a thing that a person would have to be very strong to actually do (and not just in general, but having specifically trained the relevant muscle groups), but it doesn't actually seem outside the realm of possibility.

Physics or not I have personally seen it happen exactly once in my life. Anyways he grabbed each of his sons by the neck after he got in between them. He lifted them straight up off the ground like Vader, then pulled them in close before chucking them on their butts about 3 or 4 feet away from where they had been standing before he picked them up. It was freaking amazing to watch. I assume it was adrenaline because no one is that strong...
Okay, imagine that you have some sort of exoskeleton powerful enough to do the lift and heavy enough to prevent the tipping over. Would the person lifted by its neck survive the lift?
Yeah that's what I'm wondering. I'd imagine bruises and muscle strains at least but the human neck is not meant to support the weight of the human body. Would it be like a hanging?
If done correctly you can, but it could be very dangerous unless you know exactly what you’re doing. One of the previous doctors in my town lifted his son by the base of his skull because the son was taunting him he couldn’t do it. To prove a point (and maybe scare some of the cockiness out of the kid) he went up and gripped underneath the base of his skull with one hand on each side and lifted him. Not quite the same as a neck lift but he claimed if it had been done incorrectly it could injure and maybe even kill the liftee and the only reason he was able to/confident to lift his kid. I didn’t witness the lift so I’m not sure if he had his kid up against a wall or not which would make the lift easier like Kyle stated in this video.
As long as you are not putting pressure on the windpipe or blood vessels it's safe, pressure on the wind pipe is safe for about a minuet, unless yiu do damage by crushing it, the blood vessels are the danger point however as it's easy to cause a clot or cut off blood flow which csn lead to an aneurism or lack of blood to the brain, in which case it can be deadly in a matter of seconds or cause problems minuets, hours or even days later

Weren't no CGI in 1980, just a safety harness for the actor being lifted so he didn't snap their neck with their body weight. Is it possible to dead-lift 160kg? Yes. An average human weighs 80kg.
Actually even without the force, Vader is superhuman strong because he is not using muscles, but robot limbs, and of course his suit is way heavier than a human.
Made me remember back on 7th grade i saw a guy neck lift another guy that was trying to piss everyone off, i guess he had some kinda great understanding of physics due to the fact he lifted him against a machine.
@@deanjustdean7818 that was already done , it is possible to intercept arrow , given a minimum distance from the bow\crossbow . on the other side, was confirmed impossible to intercept bullets, because usualy by the time an human notice the shot ( by sound or light) the bullet is already in your body . ps. about the bullets, any distance is the same . most bullet travel faster than sound or around the same speed , and even if light is way faster, the reaction time is too slow to dodge the bullet.
He's also lifting closer to his chest, rather than with a straight arm, he also weighs a good deal more than your average person due to the robotics, so holding someone next to his chest is absolutely plausible.
How I always imagined it would work is that you would grab someone by the neck. Pull them in close, till your own hand is practically over your shoulder, then you press then like an overhead dumbbell press. You would support their weight over your front foot and it would look almost exactly the same.
It's funny how out of all the movies that people lift someone, dirty dancing is the only one I can think that actually addresses the fact it is virtually impossible to do it alone
This episode throws some heat, Kyle. I usually just attribute something like the Vader grip to some mixed combination of the Force, the robotic attachments, his suit enhancements, and his natural stature. I figure... meh, works for me.
Was gonna say, Vader can cheat with the force Lift your prisoners with the force and you get to look cool/intimidating without straining your body and prosthetics
That reminds me: when there is no special animation, like being on the ground, near a wall, or by a drop, Batman in the last 3 Arkham games uses the neck lift as his default form of interrogation.
Hey kyle, try doing the “neck lift” motion closer to your body, rather than having your arm fully outstretched. You may end up with a different result. Also for your second point, you forgot to bring a human’s balance and ability to counter move into account, I’m not sure that with a regular person it would make a difference, but for a super hero or cyborg it should be possible to pull it off. The reason for this is because of the fact that in order to have super strength it means that you must have: a) an extremely strong muscle (or synthetic) structure in order to not just snap your skeleton, meaning that the shoulder muscles would be able to hold against the torque of the manuver; and b) The muscular structure would have to be extremely dense in order to allow for the compound strength of the muscles to actually achieve the manuver, meaning that the super hero/ cyborg would be much heavier than the other person (most likely) and as such would feel less torque on their shoulders. Side note: being super strong would theoretically make you much more “bullet proof” for the same aforementioned reasons
Another supernatural element would be a telekinetic based super strength where the individuals muscles are not the actual force doing the lifting. At which point, body physics is 'out to lunch' at that point.
While at my powerlifting peak, I could only do about 45-50lbs for a strict front or side delt raise...but lifting someone by the next is not a strict move. Like you said, just change the angle a little, and suddenly, you aren't doing a delt raise, your doing an atlas lift drawing in your forearm, triceps, chest, all 3 heads of the delt.
@@Krahazik This is presumably the case with Vader, right? @@SheyD78 Yeah. Unless Vader is significantly heavier than I imagine him to be, he would tip forward in this maneuver without the help of the Force doing most of the heavy lifting. Alternatively he could be using the Force to weigh down the back of his feet, or his boots could be surreptitiously bolted to the floor at the time of the manuever. And let's not forget the core strength needed as well. Vader better be using the Force to strengthen his abs while he's at it.

I mean. Vader was what, like 400~600 lbs? Plus. Constantly using the force. Plus the cybernetics. Yeah, he could actually do this. A regular person though? No. Also, usually people doing any kind of neck lifting IRL use both hands. And are pretty strong. And they bring them closer.

Anyways he grabbed each of his sons by the neck after he got in between them. He lifted them straight up off the ground like Vader, then pulled them in close before chucking them on their butts about 3 or 4 feet away from where they had been standing before he picked them up.
Depends on the grab and the physical state of the one being lifted.

The reason for this is because of the fact that in order to have super strength it means that you must have:
a) an extremely strong muscle (or synthetic) structure in order to not just snap your skeleton, meaning that the shoulder muscles would be able to hold against the torque of the manuver;
and b) The muscular structure would have to be extremely dense in order to allow for the compound strength of the muscles to actually achieve the manuver, meaning that the super hero/ cyborg would be much heavier than the other person (most likely) and as such would feel less torque on their shoulders.
Granted he has robotic arms at his disposal as well, but I think this neck lift is primarily achieved though the Force, and could have just as easily been done from across the room.

@@bnoel12345 It's also possible he's using the force to make himself superhumanly strong. It's a thing from the rpg. But probably what you said.
@@SheyD78 Yeah. Unless Vader is significantly heavier than I imagine him to be, he would tip forward in this maneuver without the help of the Force doing most of the heavy lifting. @@wizard_of_poz4413 Possibly, but that's something that's never been explored in the movies. I don't remember him doing any feats of strength with his hands. I imagine he is lifting his victim with the force, and then choking him with his mechanical hand.
@@FishfaceTheDestroyer I think the force is the main factor here, but you shouldn't forget the rest of his suit regarding weight. With his suit Darth Vader weighed 120kg (~260pounds)
@@dcanaday well its something that is mentioned in the novelization. I believe it might be dark lord, or the rise and fall of vader
Kyle: "Neck lifting is impossible."
Glenn Jacobs/Kane's latest Chokeslam victim: "I.. Is this a joke to you?"
The 6'8" 650 lb space wizard cyborg has a very unusually high weight
Wasnt he 6ft6?
Also cybernetic.
