  • CUAUHTÉMOC, Chihuahua, Mexico - Welcome back for another 2021 Mexico Travel video, this time from Mexico’s largest state, Chihuahua, in northern Mexico. This is part 1 of a 2 part video exploring the perils of burnout, stress, and anger when having been travelling full-time and solo for almost 5 years, and not necessarily about Chihuahua itself!
We’re heading to Mennonite country and having quite possibly the WORST pizza in the world! I’m sorry, but it was terrible. Why did SO MANY people recommend it to me? The subject of UA-cam recommendations is also covered in Part 2 and the main theme is around the fact that travel is UNIQUE to ourselves; we don’t need to listen to ‘recommendations’!

If you're thinking about moving to Mexico or becoming one of the increasing number of expats in Mexico, your choices aren't limited to popular areas like Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende, Cancun or Puerto Vallarta. You might even be looking for off the beaten track Mexico. You might ask the questions, "Is Mexico Safe?" or, "Is Mexico dangerous. Chihuahua is a state that, granted, you'll need to be able to speak Spanish in, but the city and state has so much to offer, just as much as those other places!

This is home! 🏡 I love Cuauhtémoc, haven’t been there in quite some time now so this video definitely had me feeling homesick. It’s a shame he didn’t like the pizza, I crave it here at LEAST once a month 😂

AMIGOS! As you can see, Cuauhtemoc was the start of a much needed mental breakdown. I cannot physically fit every recommendation into a video, such as that pizza! They take me away from things that actually interest me! This issue is explored in a lot more detail in Part 2 from Chihuahua. Don't misunderstand - I very much appreciate your recommendations, but I've realised it's not possible to please everyone!
In real-time, I'm filming 5 videos in and around Torreon which will start to appear on UA-cam in a couple of weeks!

David, thank you - this is a fabulous video. I travelled in the state of Chihuahua in 1992 and 1993 and Cuauhtémoc made quite an impression on me. That area is called the Manitoba colony, all the way from Cuauhtemoc to Albaro Obregon, about 40-50 kilometers give or take. After that it's the Swift colony and so on

There are still over 200,000 Mennonites in Canada - the largest concentrations are in Southern Ontario but also Manitoba, Saskatchewan and the Fraser Valley in BC. Many moved from Manitoba to Mexico in the 1920s, but a significant number have moved back in recent years. Hello David! Thanks for visiting my state! I´m from the city of Chihuahua and my wife is from Cuahutemoc, thank you for taking the time and effort to record the city as is, not as a fabulous wonder where nothing bad happens. Sorry you didn´t have the best culinary experience with your pizza, I´ve had this pizza many times and in my opinion it is an either you like it or you don´t type of pizza. The main competitor of Los Arcos is La Sierra Pizzeria, which is owned by another mennonite family, I think that both pizzas taste very similar but imo La Sierra has a better tasting sauce and dough, while Los Arcos has a stronger tasting sauce and like you said a very gooey type of dough (and it has always been that way). Wheather it was a good or bad experience, it is precisely that, experience, and you won´t know it unless you live it. I think you made the right choice by making your own choices instead of listening to all YT comments, you do you and enjoy the trip as you would enjoy it while not filming. After all you're a traveler, not a tourist, so enjoy it your way man!

Now I hear they have cellphones and powered tractors, etc. Kind of cheating a little, no? If you drive around Amish country, you don't see too many of them as they don't really have towns. However on Sunday you can see them hanging around more outside in little groups.

I’m sorry about the “pizzagate”, but one thing I have to say about my home country is that it’s like any other country in the world, with incredible food, but also average and terrible food. It’s interesting what you said that traveling is our personal journey, I’d also say life is our personal journey, we have to make our own decisions, right or wrong. At least I recommended a good place for you in Montréal, quiche! If you gonna follow an advice go with the experts. Hugs mate!

Bro I went to that pizza place as a kid and it wasn't all that either but you should have went to a place called La bodeguita, its a seafood place in the city they have multiple locations, they also have Tio Tom's in front of el Indio cuauhtemoc & that was a lot closer than where you were! All those germans are farmers and all they do is work it looked like you were really trying to hunt one of them down and all those places were closed lmao! There's also a very memorable place that I used to go to in the city with elevation called El Mirador and you can basically see the whole city from an elevated spot it's real nice both during the day as well as the night. UMM what else did you miss? Oh in the Tarahumara land they have a special history living in those mountains that you were seeing that were surrounding the city..

Good video, I'm sorry you didn't have a good time in Cuauhtemoc, Sunday was a bad day to travel to the menonite community because everything is closed for church. You are totally right the pizza is no good.

David, I love your honesty, you need a beer, massage and foot rub after that walk, Chihuahua is pretty in a rural way, thank you for going the extra mile. 🦶

I am from Chihuahua and a lot of people tell me that Los Arcos was the best of the best, but when I go there (as an adult) it was so hard for me to reach that place and was a "meh" flavor, I feel a bit dissapointed. So I understand the rage. I prefer to go to the menonita's houses and buy cheese or desserts, that cookies are the best, for real. And for the rest is a boring city, pretty calm and normal. Saludos!

Pizza looks dry and uneatable, town looks peaceful and it seems you need a vehicle to get around
