    I've seen this bike in person. The video doesn't do it justice. I think when it comes to old and new it comes down to charm. I love old bikes with big power. It keeps you honest knowing there is no computer in the background feathering your mistakes. New bikes have their own appeal but the old bikes require you to focus. It kinda puts you in a zen bubble with the bike. Hard to explain. Have fun with this one.🍻

    Oh shit, my Dad's bike! He bought his brand new back in 2002, after the original depositor backed out of the purchase. We picked it up from San Jose BMW/Aprilia (think it's just San Jose BMW now), and he still rides it to this day. It's a mean machine for sure; tons of power, zero TC, no ABS, a painfully stiff clutch, and basically no riding aids to think of. It's pretty much the exact opposite of "confidence-inspiring"!
    The funny thing is, it's so intimidating and demanding to ride that he doesn't use it all that often. Most of our rides together, he's on his KTM 690 SMC R (which, according to him, is MUCH more fun). He'll still wheel it out for the occasional ride down highway 25, and it definitely catches plenty of stares from anyone "in the know".
    He also runs it with the stock pipe; it came bundled with an optional obnoxiously loud "Aprilia Racing" branded pipe for track use only, which he doesn't use since he doesn't want the neighbors to murder us.
    EDIT: Also interesting, his number stamped on the triple clamp is "212". I remember him mentioning that it wasn't one of the original 50 brought over by Aprilia, and may have been a Euro import arranged by the dealer. Also shows that the production number of 200 is a bit unreliable. I've generally heard 220, although I've also heard as high as 250. We talked with an Aprilia rep the last time WSBK was at Laguna Seca a few years ago, and I remember him mentioning some discrepancies with total production numbers.
    EDIT EDIT: Forgot to mention one more fun fact, these were supposedly not made on the regular Tuono production line. According to the rep we talked to, these were all hand-built by Aprilia's WSBK team at the time.

    • @spitescorner
      @spitescorner  4 години тому +1

      I think they might have made an extra 25. Probably those were used for press people so they didn't affect the actual 200. A lot of press bikes don't survive. Or they just made 225.

      @@spitescorner Yeah, it's pretty tough to nail down. Apparently the first production run was 135 bikes, but things get pretty fuzzy with the second production run.

    Congratulations & welcome to Aprilia ownership. You're not wrong about parts though. I'm a year into Aprilia ownership & I'm still chasing down a replacement for a body panel that had a chunk missing when I bought it.
    They made some great motorcycles in the 2000's, but you have Aprilia to blame for "Touring Mode" on modern bikes. The Aprilia Shiver 750 was the first ride-by-wire production motorcycle. Rain mode reduces torque by 25%, but the only difference between Sport & Touring mode is the throttle response. It seems like every other manufacturer thought that was a good idea & copied Aprilia's homework, although it does make riding in heavy traffic slightly less stressful on my '08 Shiver.

    This tuono is a legend. I recently rebuilt by rsv4 factory forks and shock, and it made a HUGE difference. Definitely consider going to a suspension guy and get it sprung for your weight, rebuilt and setup for you.. It'll transform it.
    And welcome to aprilia ownership. It's special.

    Just tried an Tuono v4 - kind of sucked at low speed. Unfortunately, most of my driving is at low speed. The v4 really requires variable value timing. The current engine is optimized for high-end power. With vvt - it could be great for both low and high speed. Then I might have bought one.

    Where's the temp gauge? If it's right after the rad maybe the reading isn't an accurate reflection of the actual overall temperature? An other option would be to increasingly cover part of the rad until you reach desired temp.

Once you get the hang of it and keep the revs up especially on the twistys it’s amazing, I used mine on cadwell park track ( uk ) a few times and it became my favourite because of the traction out of tight bends. Fun fact: Italians only really started making pizza post ww2 because Americans came back to Italy to vacation and demanded it be made... but because the stereotype in the US was that Italians made pizza... Italy just kind of caved and went with it.

    • @themanwithabackpackcar
      @themanwithabackpackcar 3 години тому +3

      This is not correct. Pizza is a typical dish from the south, that became famous in Italy after the ww2, thanks to the economic boom and the migration from the south to the north of many Italians family. We didn't simply "went with it" to please some americans. Even thought the peninsula has been part of history for a long time, Italy is quite a young country, and before the 50s it was basically divided between the north and south. People didn't even speak the same language during that time.

    • @adam346
      @adam346 3 години тому

      @@themanwithabackpackcar pizza only supposedly got popularized in Italy just prior to the 1900's thanks to the Margarita pizza but that is almost certainly a lie... the real pizza boom came about in post-war Italy in the 50's because of tourists from America visiting "where it came from". Many places didn't really sell pizza before that.. prior to the post-war boom it was street food, not something you sit in a restaurant and eat, American tourists asking for pizza changed that... so yes, they kind of "went with it".
