As Venus always says, "to be successful you have to pay the price". They paid the price by spending so many hours at Compton Park. Look at them now, Oscar nominees! Proud of the whole family!
i remember driving by after work with my kids seeing you and your sister practicing at the park in Compton. We also lived in Compton too. Never knew you too would end up so great. I am proud of both of you.
Venus is very inspirational. She has a very calm demeanour and warmth to encourage a healthy competitive drive in the youngsters. Hearing the reflection on the time spent on the court, I had to replay and count the number of times the word Hours was mentioned. 😊 💖 ✌

I grew up in Compton. I was and am so very proud of you girls. Two little Black girls from Compton!!! Made me so very proud. I am a lot older than you, but the pride that I feel is real. Venus just repeating “so many hours” makes so much sense. She’s the best player the world’s ever seen and was the blueprint for Serena. It’s hard to fathom the amount of practice and training she endured since the age of 4…so many hours.

We all contribute to changing the world but some of us literally inspire.Our influence changes the world because of our very presence, we motivate others to pursue their God given talents. What a blessing these powerful women are. Many lives have been touched and changed for the good because of the Williams sisters. Maybe not in the way that you would have it, but we are all brothers and sisters. Imagine the impact we could have, if we all, pursed and achieved our dreams? The ripple effect of being a light onto the world. Just by being kind and kinder to one another, imagine how our world would change?

Wow... What memories. I was a neighbor of the Williams family. It's been amazing to see Richards prophecies come true. The only time you would see them was when they were either going to practice or coming from practice.
Actually, made me tear up especially because I was living in LA when the Williams sisters were becoming a household name in the early 90s. In fact my two nieces who were around the same ages as the sisters often got comments that they reminded people of the sisters. It's so amazing to see life unfurled and have a moment to look back. Im so proud of you girls. Blessings and more blessings abound to you and your family. For sure those long hours were blessings all wrapped up.

I wish I knew what street they lived on, as I live about 30 minutes from Compton! Venus looks so comfortable and cute sitting at the old tennis court. And that’s so touching to see her crying! “So many hours” And it was worth it! “SO MANY HOURS” I hope Venus turns that into a T-Shirt!

This was heartwarming! I started following you and Serena in elementary school. I'm 30 now.
It’s always so emotional to revisit the places that your grew up in. They’re filled with so many memories and judging from Venus, visiting her home town really made her take a step back and appreciate the journey that she’s lead. She’s overcame so many obstacles, but maintains a smile each and every day. A true pillar of success and humility. We need more heroes like her for our kids to look up to. She didn’t let anyone tell her she wasn’t good enough or that she didn’t belong. That’s the hardest thing for kids growing up in less than idea circumstances to realize that they are special and talented. I started playing tennis because of Venus, and it’s changed my life. Being on court takes away all of the daily stress and really helps you be your true self again. So much love and respect for this woman. ❤️

Venus, thank you. I could feel your emotion going back to your old stomping grounds. The tennis courts that forever changed your lives. Every once in awhile I drive by courts I spent countless hours on back in the mid 1980s. The memories come flooding back. Very emotional indeed, it reminds me of my youth, and how it is now gone. No matter how rich or poor you are, time is stolen from us at the same rate, and it makes us long for those years back in our lives. Loved that you appreciated the old homestead with its roses which your dad planted. My heart welled up within me. The Williams family is a national treasure. The love, values, vision, persistence and determination exemplified by your parents should be embraced by forward-looking parents. I have been a fan of Richard and Oracene for many years, but it wasn't until I bought and read Richard's book that I was truly able to understand and admire the rare genius -- and courage of this great man. After seeing King Richard and hearing what Will Smith had to say about the amazing and classy matriarch of the family, I'm hoping she will write her own story. Lovely video. The bit at the tennis courts was interesting. I’m reading it as Venus feels she missed out a little bit on being a child and thinks she probably could still have made it with a bit less tennis. Anyway, she’s a legend and it paid off.
I am glad you share this comment because a topic that disturbs me is how this generation of young people grow up feeling they a victim and blame their parents for being too hard strict or not letting them be a kid or so called sheltering them.
What’s your thoughts on people like this versus
Versus women like the Williams who grow up never blaming their parents for being so strict or sheltering them as a reason to justify whatever bad choices or life they chose? William sisters and many top athletes had strict discipline lives growing up because they had a drive and dream and optimism. So they don’t whine

The way that Venus turned out to be, not just as one of the greats in tennis but being a person who inspires others. Back then, I remember I always root for Hingis, but as Venus matured, I have grown to admire her for the person that she is, even without her tennis accomplishments.
