Great video as usual! Just finishing up replacing all gaskets and seals(non-timing related) on mine. Nice to have content like this if timing is ever needed to be done. Thanks!
interesting that you replaced the diamond disks, ive talked to multiple rebuilders here in the united states and none of them replace them unless they are damaged. another interesting note some of them reuse the cam bolts, which I can see as justified after some testing as that plus 90 only marginally stretches the bolt and the total torque is still within spec of the bolt by industry standard. Ill also point you to AMTuned here in the U.S. in florida, He remachines the factory cam gears for 300$ us, the work is quality and they are modified to provide better engagement to prevent the wear from occurring. Overall excellent video, wish i had this a couple months ago while i was doing mine. Cheers
@@Heartbeat1991 I know what the manual says, the gentleman I spoke with who gave me that info warranties his rebuilds for 20k miles. I reused the washers in mine but did use new bolts
@@VAGTechnic did it bend valves? ive heard that these are interference engines (and seen the proof) but mine has come untimed 3 times now with no valve collision. both my exhausts have come undone thanks to a torque wrench failure that was only caught after. and yes, you can retorque the intakes in the car with enough grinder action :) cheers
Hi there Been waiting for new video! Love your channel Need to book appointment with gents to how a look on my SQ7 it's start getting funny and it's 100k on clock
Out of interest, which of the Audi cars (and their engines) have you found to be a) The most reliable, and b) The easiest to work on and rebuild. Love watching these rebuilds - something I would have jumped into doing 10 years ago, but not so much these days.
Ive a B7 Rs4 and I want to change timing chain but I cant find the link, could you post it again? I love your content man, wish you were in South Africa, i want to rebuild as much as I can with this vehicle before parts are no longer available
Great video. I don’t think the spec for torque on the upper cam chain tensions is correct. The lower two are 10nm but the upper two tensioners are 5nm + 90 degrees. At least that’s what I’m seeing in the factory manual.
What would happen if the timing marks for the camshaft intake and exhaust gears are not within the range? My shop says the exhaust gear is off by about 90 degrees. Car started and ran "fine", CEL P0018 G163 is active. Is there a way to know what damage has already been done?
Awesome video. Engine out on my B7 s4 right now and about to do the chains. Quick question. When you tightened the cam bolts did you just use the cam locking plate to hold them in place? I heard it could bend the plate?
Thanks for the video. I am finalizing a parts list for this job. I have the timing chain kit, but did not consider some of the external gaskets mentioned. Also, what kind of brake cleaner were you using? I used some to clean the front of my engine up and it doesn't quite have the finish yours has.
Hi veg , Do this engine have balance shaft timing mark or has to be time somehow ? Coz i watched so many video about audi but noone is talking about it.
Great video! Would you recommend to replace the 2 "in between"-wheels that connect the camshaft chains with the crankshaft? In this video you seem to reuse the old ones but I have a cost estimate workshop that wants to change them out. Too bad that I don't live in your area.
Hello, I have a question about 3.0tfsi 333hp engine. I've changed crank vent, new cover gaskets, new spark, coils etc. Now when I push hard gas I have error p0420 and p0430 at the same time(catalic converter). When I drive calm no errors. I need to do 6000km for a vacation,if it safe to ride with this error or I can damage engine?
Last Audi V8 I had was the ABH V8.. It burnt more oil than a TDi - it was 60 liters of gasoline and 1.5 liters of oil in the engine.. I guess thats what 300.000+ km does to a aluminium engine block.
I have a question? How to line the chain timing marks up. Where I live there is no manuals available. I watch a lot of your videos and haven’t seen how to do that parts of the timing marks if there’s any! I seen how to put the cams and crank in time but just not sure about the way the chains go on. Thanks

theres a non running s4 in my area that someone wants $950 (us) for, this is the second time ive seen it listed this year-it was listed at $1200 a few months ago until it sold to the current owner. how bad of an idea is it to buy the car as a project?
@@VAGTechnic there was a diesel V8 that used the same block. That had balance shafts. There’s two holes at the 4 and 7 o clock positions below that gear. Sometimes they have a block off plate on them, some do not. The upper gear and pedestal are replaced by a gear with a balance shaft gear drive for the two balance shafts on those Diesel engines.

Nice job. Very informative. Thanks for going through the steps to replace timing chains. Also, thanks for the smoke show. Added ambiance.
