WWE Battleground 2017 Review | THE WORST PAY-PER-VIEW OF THE YEAR!

- Опубліковано 22 лип 2017
- Solomonster ( / solomonster ) reviews WWE BATTLEGROUND 2017 from Philly, the absolute worst PPV show of the year. After an excellent opener for the tag team titles, it was a steady decline until the return of THE GREAT KHALI in the main event. If that doesn't tell you everything that's wrong with the Smackdown brand right now, I don't know what does. This show was an embarrassment.

Avengers: Infinity War trailer leak> WWE Battleground
By having the Great Khali on this show, in 2017 it goes to show you that change is needed on Smackdown in the absolute worst way...ASAP
We knew this would happen though. Raw is their baby. The Smackdown Surge was never going to last.
biiiig show and rybaack, strowmin' n' roman'
JDfromNY206 fire road dogg
JDfromNY206 yes by getting rid of road dogg and hoping Vince and Kevin Dunn die, then only will change ever come
JDfromNY206 lmao great khali I mean I don't hate him but why bring him up.
"Orton has a look of terror on his face... I have a look of terror on my face." I couldn't breathe that's how hard I was laughing
Road Dogg will get on Twitter and justify this trash
"oh you are just a bunch of downers, i choose to be positive, some nights we have homeruns others it's a show but the hard work is still there" that usual bullshit.
Jose Caceres "wins and loses don't matter lol"
Travis W that sound's like em
It's crazy that only 7 months ago Smackdown was one of the best things about WWE, now it's one of the fucking worst things about this company
Blame Roaddogg & his shitty booking
weirdfish change in creative plain and simple
Trunks Fucked Yo Bitch there's a possibility that Vince wasn't paying much attention to it back then and has recently started throwing his weight around more often. Just like how he didn't pay attention to Talking Smack and after one show it got canceled from being a weekly show.
The only enjoyment I got out of this ppv is that knowing Solo would kill it dead. This PPV sucked. It wasted my time. It wasted my gf's time, she got so irritated during the Cena match she started cheering for Rusev and then read a book the rest of the evening. I wish I had grabbed my book, not watched another hour of this multifarious bore.
Things that made this the worst PPV: Bad endings, average matches, dead crowd, predictability for some of the matches and swerves just for the sake of swerves (Natti, Zayn, Khali)
This is a great time for me to start watching New Japan Pro Wrestling.
Kain d. Badguy GO DO IT NOW they are our only saviors
People on Instagram gave this show an 8/10. This show in the words of Bryan Alvarez deserves MINUS 5 STARS! Summerslam better be one of the greatest shows in the last 5 years at least to come back well off a garbage show like this. Glad I didn't watch nor did I pay this month. New Japan gives us Naito vs Ibushi and Omega vs Suzuki where WWE gives us Jinder Mahal and The Great Khali
Oh, heck, I can't wait to see Bryan Alvarez rip this pay per view to shreds.
Wally Rosario right bro
Wally Rosario I don't like the pacing of NJPW. But after watching last night's PPV, I might have to give NJPW world a chance..
+lil115slayer you definitely should especially for the G1. There are gonna be matches that blow you away. definitely watch New Japan especially now during the hottest point of the year except Wrestle Kingdom
lil115slayer pacing ? Huh? Pacing is fine every wrestler there wrestles different.
What an embarrasment to wrestling....... Road Dogg and Vince literally put another shameless note on how bad bad wrestling is being booked right now in WWE. Save us Indy Wrestling!
The "Delete!" chants during the poontang prison match pretty much told the story.
I'm from philly, had money, didn't go, didn't watch
Jimi Hendips good for you. You can sleep easy knowing you didn't waste your time or money on this PPV
Jimi Hendips I love your avatar pic. Used that myself on Facebook a few years ago haha
Haaaaaave mercy!
Jimi Hendips 😂😂💯💯

My WWE Network Subscription = CANCELLED!!!
Awful product, bad storylines, cringeworthy programming & excruciating commentary.
Same just channeled this morning , im done with this childish shit
Same here. Cancelled it last night. Not worth my money at all!
I wouldn't cancel it. They have attitude era matches on there.
NEW JAPAN G1 CLIMAX 27
The Solomonster: "0:11.".
Me: "Nice to meet you.".
The Solomonster: "0:13.".
Me: "The same to you.".
Lol.
Yea this pay per view was bad lol.
I know Solomonster really likes Corbin but he's trying really hard to convince us that the Nakamura match wasn't complete garbage.
eric garcia Totally sucked!
eric garcia I love Nakamura and Corbin's decent, but these two have zero chemistry with each other. Feud should have ended tonight.
I have never seen Nakamura prior to WWE. I keep hearing how great he is, but so far I have seen very little to write home about. His entrance is memorable, but in the ring he throws a few knees and not much else. Perfect opponent for Boring Corbin. :)
jayfore UA-cam Shinsake's NXT debut vs Sami Zayne, if you haven't seen it already.
jayfore then educate yourself I mean if your a fan good look him up you have the internet use it. I hate that excuse
New Day & The Usos are the best thing about SDLive right now and that's weird since SDLive has Styles, Nakamura, KO, Sami Zayn, Rusev, Orton, and Cena.
Except the two future hall of gamers the only people over on smackdown are AJ and Nakamura. That shake up ruined that brand so badly at this point they might as well give Ziggler another push
Famers* my bad
Wally Rosario How did it ruin the show when they got way better talent than what Raw got. The reason the show sucks is because of Road Dogg's shitty writing
I know that's your opinion, but I'll respectfully disagree. I find it hard to believe that a few changes in talent is responsible for SDLive's downfall. Unless they changed/switched writers, I don't think the shake-up is to blame because SDLive has just as many talented superstars as Raw does.
The shakeup didn't ruin Smackdown. The writing has.
Tbh it was never that " smackdown is the greatest show ever " it was more about raw being absolutely shit
When solomonster is angry.....he's funny. :)
I never thought it would get to the point where watching an Olympic swimmer race against a CGI shark and a boxer and a UFC fighter going back and forth would be more entertaining than what we call "sports ENTERTAINMENT". Smackdown has been terrible recently and this ppv was an embarrassment.
I am not excited based on the title alone
WWE is embarrassing! I'm ashamed that i still follow this stuff
Nathan Woods Honestly at this point we should just watch another wrestling show cause every single time and every year wwe continues and continues and continues to fail to give us what we want.
At this point, I think I am going to invest in New Japan 100% for now on. Screw Summerslam, WWE is a sinking garbage scow!
THE GOOD GUY only if the WWE finally books a show that is well liked across the board. And that is a BIG "if".
I fell asleep during the Cena-Rusev match.
Lotus Hulkenberg you sleeping was more exciting than that match
Razor Smith I think that's a bit much. I wouldn't say any of those people got buried but their matches or finishes to their matches left a lot to be desired
Razor Smith This pay per view will be a forgotten memory in a month or two. Maybe in a month or two Smackdown Live will turn it around. I think getting a dynamic talent to shake things up a little bit will help. Seth Rollins would be great addition. They could trade for Rollins and Raw can sign Cena. Then Smackdown can feud Rollins with Styles, Nakamura, and Kevin Owens. Plus one of those four could take the belt off Mahal.
Legit same I didn't get past them getting out of the ring and I am so glad I was out before the punjabi prison
i speeded up match 1.5x to avoid the slumber 😂
I forgot what episode of The Solomonster's podcast it was (episode #500-something) & somebody asked a "Buy, Or, Sell?" in terms of which PPV was the worst: 'WWE Battleground 2017', or, 'WWF King Of The Ring 1995', I believe they were.
I, personally would much rather have sat through 'WWF King Of The Ring 1995' than 'WWE Battleground 2017'.
terrible, AJ Styles match wasn't even good. there's literally three highlights of this show, the tag title match very good. a Singh Brother took a bump off the cage which is like the 3rd ppv in a row he almost died, i hope he's getting a good paycheck and well Great Khali returned think how bad this had to be for that to be a highlight.
That Styles was decent . Not good not bad but terrible finish
Owens headlocks just kills the interest in the matches
Sai Sunny Owens' headlocks are the best and most entertaining restholds you will ever see. There is always variation. Fact is: You NEED restholds or episodes of slow pace for proper storytelling. A match can only get fast and exciting when it has slow parts. You have to build tension. Of course you can screw up pacing. But Owens and AJ are way too good to fail at this.
Jinder and Orton failed. The beginning was awful. I liked the second half, but the beginning...
Sirion 3 headlocks in a span of 15 minutes means you don't give a damn
Sirion and you don't need long draw out rest holds to tell a story
2016 BattleGround was far better than this 2017 BattleGround. Vince needs to retire. SDLive has hit a brick wall! Just sad...:-(
The NFL can't come any faster....
How to save the Punjabi Prison match.
1) Take out the internal cage.
2) TAKE OUT THE INTERNAL CAGE.
so right I straight fell asleep watching the flag match
WWE has actually planned this... Just so Raw looks good now
Gerry McWilliam Yep Vince is moonwalking
The uso superkick reminded me when Shawn Michaels superkicked Shelton Benjamin in the AIR! one of my favorite moments in wrestling history!
My God. Sounds like complete and utter garbage. I genuinely feel for those who actually took their time out of their Sunday night to watch this. Being a fan for nearly 20 years now, I flat-out refuse to watch a show with a glorified jobber in the main event, let alone the WWE Champion. I don't care what anyone says, Jinder Mahal has absolutely no business being the champion --- it's borderline laughable. That being said, thanks for the review, Jason! Really appreciate what you do.
bigb860 I feel bad for jinder he has to know he's does not belong in the higher tiers that wwe is putting him
I'm not saying he could never get there but you can't be a nobody, then out of no where, win a couple of a matches and become the champion. There's no story or rise, which is why no one's buying it.
So about those rumours about Vince sabotaging SD because it beat RAW in the ratings that one week...
FFS with a roster of Zayn, Owens, Styles, Nakamura, Cena, Rusev, Lynch, Charlotte, etc... and the best part of the roster is the Tag Team Division (not to say the SD Tag Division is bad. Nope. Its great) is unacceptable.
Someone needs to make Vince see its time to step down. The old man is so out of touch its killing the product.
Chris Ayeni The best part of the roster is the tag team division? WTF are you talking about? And you left off alot of people on the Roster. The Roster now is better than it was before the shake up
The best booked part of the roster is the Tag Division. Yes.
WWE Title Scene? A joke. Jinder gives the same promo week in week out and neither him no Orton are exciting enough to make the feud work and we all know Cena is winning at Summerslam. Fun.
US Title Scene? Better. You could potentially have the likes of Nakamura, Styles, KO, Zayn and even Corbin for now all go after it but WWE is still playing hot potato with the title.
Women's Title Scene? After the weeks and weeks of multi-woman matches with no clear direction only now are we actually getting what seems to be a definite feud for Naomi. Carmella is interesting too as MITB holder but that's only her. The likes of Lynch, Charlotte, etc... are still directionless with no real feuds in hand atm.
Mid-card? WWE not doing enough with the likes of Dillinger, English, etc... The mentioned two just sorta fight on pre-shows but they barely have any interaction on SD to constitute a feud. The Mike-Zayn stuff is decent but that's it.
Tag Team Division is the one with constantly good matches and promos. Usos have been booked as fantastic and credible champions with New Day as worthy challengers. They always have solid PPV matches too. Breezango is entertaining and the intrigue surrounding who their attackers are (either AOP or Harper/Rowan IMO) is good. Even Ascension is actually in a funny role when they show up on the Fashion Files. So yeah I'd say the Tag Scene is probably the best booked division on SD right now.
Chris Ayeni Okay I thought you meant the best as talent wise... But yeah as far as booking goes you're right it's been the tag team division. Once they take that title off Jinder & Baron cashes in on whoever beats him (Most likely Cena) the World title picture will be back as the main title.
Oh I see. Nah. Honestly atm the US Title/upper mid card scene has the best talent (Cena, Rusev, Owens, Styles, Naka, Zayn, Corbin). But yeah it does seem that SD is directionless atm especially since the US Title honestly feels more like the main belt than the actual WWE title.
Hopefully you're right and things do pick up after Summerslam. Some new feuds and new title holders could shake up things and re-invigorate the show because at the moment SD just feels dull.
How do I sent you emails I tried with your email address you say on your podcast sometimes but it won't let me so how do I send you questions
I like when there's a ppv review, especially for the big four ppvs.
I didn't even watch this PPV. And after listening to this, I'm glad to say I didn't watch it
Nathan Johnson You should at least catch the New Day vs. Usos match. Only good match on the show.
How does a midcarder like Road Dogg know anything about booking? He was never a main eventer and yet he's supposed to book main event matches
Jose Caceres He's the same guy who was booking smackdown in 2016. So he can be great. But he isn't doing any good to smackdown
Roaddogg was traded to Smackdown in the shake-up (behind the scenes), and Smackdown's headwriter was given to Raw. Coincidence?
Amey Singh Um no it was Ryan Ward he was lead writer now he was the reason the show was great now he's on Raw, Road Dogg lead writer on Smackdown
StarryStarryNocturne Are you serious or trolling? Because he's been on SDL from the start
Well if you use that logic the amount of bullshit and interference is exactly the kind of main event shenanigans he's used to... remember all the times DX would interfere in a HHH match in the 2000s ?
Worst PPV of all time
This was a rough ppv to go through.
I went from watching the G1 to watching this this...
Thanks for the heads up. I was busy watching Game of Thrones. Now that I know this is a throw away show might as well be productive and paint.
Best decision you've made
Nicolas Hernandez Euron Greyjoy had a Wrestlemania worthy entrance
imsteezy1 the ship scene was awesome. I hate waiting another 6 days for the next episode
Nicolas Hernandez
bro, game of thrones was fuckin sweeet
sams curing jorah !
All Hail John snow
21:43-21:54.; The Solomonster had a very valid point--especially at that part.
I've seen that be used so many times in pro wrestling where the heel would take what felt like forever to climb the cage/etc., it literally isn't even funny.
I honestly took a nap during the main event. I woke up and was disappointed to find out it wasn't over.
The Punjabi Prison match was perfectly fine once they left the inner cage. The problem was they spent far too long in there and it was kind of hard to see what was happening. They need to just scrap the dual cage idea. Opening the doors is both pointless and convoluted; straight out of Russo's big book of booking. The Punjabi Prison would be fine if it were just the outer cage. I mean the structure looks impressive.
The goat khali has returned!
OneeChan Fucked Me *great
DarkHpokinsn Gaming Decent at best*
nothing above an abortion in the ring*
What's the G1? 5:10.
I cancelled my WWE Network subscription back at the end of April and so far I haven't read or seen anything that makes me want to renew it.
It is the Becksploder, I do believe.
It used to be the BexPlex.. But ur Right, though..
They said the crowd was chanting for Roman reigns? Is that true ?
this show started out well with the tag title match and went to garbage after. hopefully there is a way up after this great review as always.
I remember watching this show and I fell asleep during the rusev and cena Match 😂😂 Had to go online and figure out the results
I checked out and didnt care during large parts of the show and just played Fire Pro Wrestling World.. way better matches lol
This show was awful!
I don't know if I was the only one to notice it or not, but in the AJ-KO match, I think the ref was knocked loopy to explain the ref possibly missing AJ's shoulder was lifted off the mat.
I fell asleep just before the bell rang for the Cena, Rusev. keep in mind where I live it was near 3 AM!
I made 2 mistakes when it comes to this ppv:
1. resume watching after I woke up
2. tried watching this ppv live (especially considering my new job meant I no longer have to work monday mornings!)
Orton Vs Khali at Summerslam (If it happens) is the definition of a piss/food break
WWE wants to make most of the shows bad so the 3 good ones seem better.
26:07-26:12.; Everybody else who saw this PPV was probably thinking the same thing, afterwards.
Fastlane as a PPV failed to be a good build-up heading into Wrestlemania. But Battleground failed to make Smackdown Live look any better after a long haul of recycled, uninteresting episodes. Which one of those sounds worse to you?
Funny thing was I was in Philly Sunday and I went to see Slayer, Lamb Of God, and Behemoth. And that show was sold out compared to this show from what I hear. I knew I was going to be disappointed by the PPV so I didn't bother.
I was watching on the network and hovered my mouse over the timeline at the bottom before the main event, saw there was 40 mins left and was like Fuckkkkk! lol
13:40-13:47.; You'd think so, right?...
What bothered me the most is that Owens and Styles both had their shoulders down. The ref counted and never told the announcer who won. Then the announcer gets on the mic and makes the announcement. When did WWE employees become mind readers?!?
Smackdown hasn't been the same since they took the WWE title off Styles.
Highlight of the night was Fandangos overblown comment on the Ascension.
cena got his golden shovel for rusev at battleground.
I gave up on product a few weeks ago. But Kurt Angle's reveal last week and this PPV was the last straw for me. I'm done. I'm gonna spend my time watching something else and just listen to podcasts to keep me updated from now on.
It looked like a double pin between Owens and Styles. I think it will lead to a ladder match at SS
0:13.; "Hi." to you, as well.
1:04-1:07.; Agreed.
All the best writing people were moved to Raw, WWE has systematically stripped Smackdown of anything that put it ahead of Raw, because WWE (Vince) wants Raw to be the flagship.
Cena should retire. What more could he do? Money in the bank, Rumble wins, US champ, WWE champ, World champ, tag champ, beat, Rock, Michaels, Angle, HHH, Orton, Batista, Mysterio, Guerrero, Edge, Punk, Bryan, & Jericho. I like Cena, but I'm exhausted of seeing him.
Only thing I disagree with you on your displeasure with this show is your criticism of the exploder suplex. Sami's been doing it for years. Becky's been doing it for years. Same with Nak. Only thing different is that they're all now on the same show of Smackdown. You can't expect the wrestlers to change their moves because other superstars have the same ones.
This was by far the worst PPV I've seen in a LONG time. Complete waste of my time when I could have been watching Game of Thrones as it was happening.
Solomonster! getting it done! Thank You for the review! I will say that to say this, all the workers broke there ass and tried to make it work! give them credit, it is not there fault creative is dropping the ball!!! much respect to he workers from the Guardian of Chaos, Big Daddy!! CenterRing316 Thanks S
Nice of WWE to show Jinder in the Summerslam promo so I didn't have to watch the Punjabi Prison match to see who won, I'd sooner have a bamboo suppository than watch Jinder vs Orton.
I was at this shit show and by FAR the highlight of the night wasn't even on tv. Before the flag match the crew got confused as to where to put the flags. At least four of them start to argue as to where they should go. One guy carrying both flags runs halfway towards the ring, around the crowd. He gets told to go back and put the flags in the stands. But before he can make it Rusev's music hit. Which is why Rusev came to the ring with no flag then walked back up the ramp and grabbed his flag from the stand. I wish I had video of this. It was priceless
And now we'll be getting Jinder vs Cena at summerslam most likely, lord have mercy on us if it comes to fruition lol
Anyone notice that KO is almost TOO good of a heel?
The endless chin locks, the constant stalling in ring, and the harassing of interviewers (Renee Young mainly)
I laughed every time they said "steel reinforced bamboo" No it was steel bars painted in camo/ to look like bamboo
Smackdown really has to start utilizing their talent better, they really ought to start giving more air time to Luke Harper, Tye, and Gable in the future. Even Ziggler and Rowan have gone missing
I wonder how Road Dogg is going to defend this?
26:21-26:24.; If I had ordered this PPV, I would've done the same thing, as well.
if you thought breezango was fighting in a match at BG, you might wanna ask your doctors to lower the dosage on your prescription... LOL!
I can't remember seeing a good ppv from start to finish
The Great khali joining the stable is awesome. Now it starting to look like a credible heel stable. I don't think TGK is going to wrestle I think/hope he's just an enforcer.
Undertaker possibly taking away breeze?
Damn!!! 😂😂😂 you too, Sol!
Looking back on the whole Singh brothers geting destroyed by Randy Orton thing. It really bothers me that precious Randy Orton is treated like fragile glass but he's free to come close to murdering smaller wrestlers.
He hit the nail on the head one of the worse ppv of the year. Just look at the main event they had in February to now is like wow. If it's keeps up like this don't be surprise if they do joint ppvs in the future
I knew great khali was coming back because jinder brought up his name on smack down two weeks before this ppv I knew he was gunna interfere in this match
This is what you get when the WWE doesn't have any competition. Us fans are missing WCW right now. At least WWE and WCW pushed each other for a better product. Even SummerSlam isn't looking that all appealing right now.
I'll rate each match on Battleground
New Day vs Usos - GREAT
Nakamura vs Corbin - Boring
Women's Fatal 5 Way - Below Average ( Lame finish )
A.J Styles vs Kevin Owens - Average TV quality match ( HUUUGGGGGE Disappointment)
Cena Vs Rusev - Boring ( stupid uninteresting stipulation)
Zayn vs Kenellis - Piss break.
Orton vs Mihaul - Boring, waaaaaay too slow. ( just a terrible way to end the PPV )
Terrible show overall.
Kevin Dunn’s Teeth>Battleground 2017
Smackdown haven't been the same since the Shakeup Vince seen that Vince was the better show he want RAW to be the "A" show that's why he did the shake up
I felt like watching Money in the Bank from last month
You know that one some warped level Vince is _glad_ because now Raw, his precious baby, is beating Smackdown again. And you know it's not beyond the realm of possibility that this man really would cut off his own nose to spite his face.
But becky lynch always use the exploder.
It is time when people trend #CancelNetwork on twitter and wwe would come up with 2 or 3 (I know it's more for wwe) good matches at SummerSlam and then everything would be back to normal except this time, the network subscription is really going down in a horrible way.
Last year post-draft, SmackDown was the better show, where Styles was the champ and they were phenomenal with his booking. Now we've Ginger Mahal as the champ who can't even talk sensibly and to think this guy got a shot at the title ahead of Zayn and Luke Harper shows that WWE does what it does only and only for money and this will never ever ever ever change. They have no desire to change.
