Roof Top Tent DIY - Cot Tent - budget

- Thought I’d share diy RRT idea and a great way to secure it. The tent that I used is a double cot tent by Kamp rite other cot tents like winterial, Tangkula will also work. Custom truck rack was made with 4 channel struts, two going horizontal and two going vertical (drilled and bolted to my sliding tonneau) held together by channel spring nuts/bolts. The tent is fasten down from the legs to the horizontal struts with u-bolts. You can definitely add more struts or get stronger struts thats rated for your weight.
The best part is you'll have room for storage in the bed or have a space for your dog to sleep. Also the tent can easily and quickly be released and set on the ground by unbolting the horizontal struts, if needed to leave and come back. you would have two ways to carry it: fully packed or half folded with just the two inner legs still bolted in, leaving room under the tent for more storage. I also made a rainfly when its half folded, made with tarp and straps.

I really love the setup keep up the great work and videos. Would like to know if the cot tent cover is it waterproof did you make it ?
Yes, for the most part it is waterproof but what I run into the most is condensation. It’s a great summer time tent but on rain/cold days condensation buildup is huge even if vented.
