Thanks for explaining the engagement process when rolling backwards. I’ve been riding a planetary BSD off and on for a few years now and it always seemed random to me.
This is awesome! Unfortunately, I still have the original and it's still going strong, so I wouldn't be able to get this. The only additional thing I was thinking you could test is pedal pressure tire taps. I wonder if they're any different than with the original.
fr. I also still have my original planetary coaster but shortly before I switched hubs I learned tire taps. In the two years since then with a coaster, I have maybe landed 2 lmao
Ive just learnt too apply slightly more pressure on my back pedal too fakie never had a prob or if i want engage clutch apply pressure on the front pedal. Ive had mine 3yrs and only ever put a squirt of chain lub in the hub
Riding flatland with a BSD revolution and sometimes going backwards it engages randomly. Your comments at @6:44 explains that it happens when you stop and reverse (why though?). Would love to know why and if the new mechanism helps this. I'm on the pegs so cant adjust pedals mid trick.
The hub relies on that switch from forward to backward momentum to let the pawls drop fast enough to go into coaster mode. I think the new clutch will help with this because the little ramps that lift the pawls are points of a triangle rather than being a long ramp. So it would make sense that it doesnt take as long for the hub to disengage when the wheel goes backwards
I’ve always wanted to keep my planetary on but I always end up taking it off because it’ll engage on certain tricks sometimes (540s, 180s over spines, and double peg to fakie on quarters) and I always end up thinking about it too much and it gets into my head, I wonder if this would solve some of those issues
I think it would work because it doesn't seem like there's anything stopping it from working. I even thought a 6 pawl version would work with this specific clutch if it were made to have even spacing. I just don't know if there's enough interest in it on their end with all of these ones out there already that have the 3 pawl ratcheting ring in them
In case you missed the notice in the first 3 seconds of the video, this was filmed in 2022 BEFORE S&M / FIT.

Stay tuned to the Alienation Instagram on Monday.

More great coverage I'm not sure you can get anywhere else!

Has the drop date changed with freenights temporary closing?
Sounds dope to me!
pardon me, which brakes do you run, i really like the look and they seem to function well

when will this be available again?
do you think a 4 pawl driver design could work with a planetary system? or is impossible? have you ever asked freenight about that?

I still find it odd that most pros won't even try it still.. I love mine
I want one!
Spring 2024!!
Can u still do fakie moonwalk manuals ?
I would think so
I love science :)
Love my planetary coasters so much that I now have seven. I’m none with regular Freecoasters. 🙅🏾♂️
You might have more after next week....just sayin....
Stay tuned
Oooffff just about to buy new clutch for my bsd hub. Thank god i stumble on this video🤌🏽
If you can hold out till spring 2024 this might be a solid choice!
They’re in production right now
@@Brant_Moore The Alienation clutch will fit the BSD?
Yes
