Another top tip: The docking bay number is at the BACK of the dock, where the nose of your ship needs to be. No more coming in backwards at outposts and landing sites and having to do the "pirouette of shame"! And another: You can line up with the slot while you're still in supercruise. Just watch the hologram of the station. That's the shape you get when you drop down. Saves loads of time.
@@GhostGiraffe really late for me but the reason it's m/s is because modern rockets use this as it is an effective amount to show the minor corrections you need to do when ajusting orbits or docking and the like. A minor correction of only a few m/s in a direction can result in a change of thousands of kilometers on the far side of an orbit and often many times more. Also it's in metric so it's really easy to scale
Ghost Giraffe I even looked for the damn thing after I saw someone use voice attack and thought "huh, there has to be a keybind for this" but I couldn't find it obviously. Thx, dude you are a saint!

Thanks, and keep 'em coming.
Another thing you can do when docking is USING THE TARGET INDICATOR I've been using it each and every time, and it is very fast to find exactly where you need to go, since it always points directly at the entrance, not at the landing pad. Once you get through the mail slot, it then points you to your landing pad.
Ghost Giraffe *holy shit a reply from the content creator don't freak out* I love your work! *smooth now don't finish with something creepy and you're good* I love you too... *good job he probably hates you now*
Unless oncoming traffic wants to faceplant against my corvette they are the ones who get out of the way. Anything smaller than me just gets bumped out of the way anyways, even at 100, and I can guarantee whatever you got doesn't have the torque of my g5 dirty drives a class thrusters with drag drive. But please do not be as daft as the docking computer (yes. I am that lazy) that has to flip the ship 180 degrees on takeoff because the green side is not enough, it has to be tot the right as well. No, it does not, in space, up and down is relative. Just follow the green light.
3:30 i have a better tip when i got confused with stations. I turn off the thrusters for a second and watch the rotation, spin the ship and watch the hologram and find it where the sides are not spinning.
Ive found that (in a cutter) it’s safe to start charging your fsd once the fuel scoop disengages, or your temperature starts to go down. Didn’t know about the orange star blip doovelackey thingymabob. Keep these coming, really enjoy them. Have a good one. Edit: should have probably reminded which side is the correct side to enter the mail slot.
These tip videos have been the most helpful videos ever and I've been playing Elite since 2015. I finally figured out how to change my hud color thanks to your past video too. Also that next waypoint button is a life saver, literally everytime I'm on I have to reroute my route haha
I just started playing Elite, and I've been watching a lot of videos (a LOT) on a lot of topics, but these are my favorite. Not only because they're funny as hell, but you give information that I haven't seen anywhere else. Like the station entrance! I knew about the arrows on the outside, but I always have a hard time finding it. The fist trick actually helps. Thank you!
Haha we used to wait for 34% back in the day. It would get really worrisome when an NPC threatened to interdict. Then a friend told us about the star color and felt so dumb.

My God I love actual creative content like this. I hate the repetitive click baity bullshit a video with this title would usually be. Props for being funny, original, AND informative at the same time. Keep up the good work
I have to just say I've rewatched this at least 15 times. It's unhealthy. But the humor is top notch as is the effort put into making this. Really looking forward to more hahaha

But truth be told I've never even figured out how to log out in a way that doesn't take 50 seconds so whatever. Why break immersion.
The star color radar phenomenon is one I've been wonderful about lol. Only played for like 2 months but I've noticed it go from red to orange and wasn't too sure why. Maybe if I wasn't staring at my radar I'd notice the heat indicator lmao. Anyway, that tip and the next waypoint tip with the bonus keybinding-saving tip was the hottest info I've gotten so far. Thank you guys so much.
The speed is in Mps, or Meters per second. Think about that next time you hit your top speed in whatever ship you fly, it can blow your mind. My Vulture, for example, can travel 1 KM every 1.9 seconds with its 507 top speed. Some of the big ships can fly at speeds upwards of 400. Just imagine Big Ben flying across the sky at 400Mps.
in real space ships are able to attain velocities just under the speed of light by conventional propulsion, assuming you aren’t being effected by a gravity well, and you have the fuel to continue to power the engines. There is no drag, so by having thrust, you are constantly accelerating past your current speed. Given enough time and space the only thing that would effect its maximum velocity is the speed of light itself, maybe not even that
themustachioedman Right, but allowing players to increase their speed beyond a reasonable limit would definitely cause some issues, not just in the way players could abuse it, either. Eventually, it would crash the game due to it not being able to render properly.
Another way to find the mail slot on stations (I think, may not be accurate for every model of a station) is that the flashing red strobes on the outside of the station (not the entrance ones) are on the end opposite of the entrance.
Been flying around the Galaxy too long? Memory not what it used to be? Tough time remembering key bindings? Any other question on a theme? Voice Attack it ! Small print: Cmdr Bow Lof Petunias receives no credits from Voice Attack for saying just how great it is.
If you actually read this then sorry for wasting your time, but, I don't have this game, I don't even know, like. There's Mars, and Spawrks, and I don't know if they're even two different people, I have a truly remarkable ability to become confused about very basic and obvious things. I am almost always confused in some capacity, I just roll with it, but anyways! The videos you make about Elite Dangerous are entertaining, even to somebody about as far from your target audience as you can get. That's impressive as fuck!
You can bind different controls for when your landing gear is deployed. Rather than trying to use the throttle and pitch to land, bind left/right and forward/backward translation to your d-pad for when landing gear is deployed. Makes landings far easier and I've never seen a streamer take advantage of it.
This one's quite a bit weaker than the last one, mars shouting is not as good as spawrks! + editing feels a little more...meh. Still a neat work there..also I demand more spawrks!
I've been playing ED and watching a lot of ED videos because I had no fkn idea what I was doing. Now I only have no idea what I am doing. This video was so entertaining I subscribed, and the first ED oriented channel I've subscribed to. And if I had to rationalise my decision I'd say um the / thingy key for the next waypoint. Thumbs up (there's no up in space).
Nice! Thanks so much for the sub! We also do a comedy series and science videos based on glitches in the game that happen to be real life oddities, like stars in stars or co-orbital moons
Thank you! I just started Elite Dangerous last week. I'm on xbox and with fewer bittons setting up the jump to next waypoint button was tricky. Luckily I don't often change my control scheme so left stick click it is. Also, those damned stations. I almost got blown up by the Sgt. Cause it took me too long to find the entrance. Very helpful. I must say, quite entertaining too! Definitely subbed!
I don’t try jumping while too close to a star, but then again, I typically go towards deep space before I jump. I don’t wait for the star to stop glowing red on the radar, I wait for it to shrink behind me entirely. Although that’s partially because the next star on my route is typically behind the current star when I arrive or close enough to behind it that throttling up to jump would bring me within hearing range of the star, but still!
M is my waypoint button. But i've done a bit of exploration. As for hot suns, my explorer ships so cool i fsd as soon as its ready. i don't have issue with finding the slot haha, but thats a handy tip. DIDN'T know about the log off trick. Very handy haha, cheers.
Ever since I tried out the DBX for deep space exploration I don't even pay attention to heat unless I'm in the glow of O, A or B. None of the other stars can tax the heat load on it enough for me to care.
Late to the party here, but this was legitimately the best Elite Dangerous video I've ever watched. Most ED youtubers can barely hold my interest but this... this was great. Well done. Liked and subbed.
Dude you are one of the best youtubers out there. The production quality, the humor, the knowledge. You have achieved a great balance, I wish you great future success.
- I use the next waypoint button. - that red/orange thing was new to me. but I never had that problem, really. saving the extra 2 seconds is just a drop onto the hot stone, or however that saying goes. - I know about the station rotating counter clockwise from the perspective of the entrance. though I do prefer the new visual aids. - It's m/s, and that's ridiculous for a space scale. but whatever. I never pay attention to the speed limit, and I only get a fine every few weeks, and i can easily pay it off.
Your commentary has the most personality I’ve ever heard before and it’s beyond funny and entertaining, I’ve only been watching for 2 minutes and I’m already subscribing!
Thanks bud! Hope you’ll enjoy our other sillier series too. Also occasionally we do actual science videos with NASA. Hope those are fun for you too though not as funny ;)
lol, I actually do all this stuff. It was just a few weeks ago (after years of playing) that I realized there was an option for selecting the next system to jump to. Now, when interdicted, I hit ah to see who’s attacking me, then O, for “Oops, I gotta get out of here!”
Station docking is even easier: You don't need to play with your hand or whatever to find the entrance side. The target marker is pointing to it, so if u don't find it just fly in it's direction until it's behind you and turn around. And avoiding crashing into another ships is easier too then a speed limit. Noticed that red & green lights at the entrance ? They mark where ships are supposed to fly out & inside
i just found out about you guys and let me say, im glad someone with more humor than me has made these tips :D i noticed *most* them but dont do my own videos, you guys are geat!! i will definitely show you to my new space pirate pals so they can go chuck slaves into more stars at a more efficient pace!
Oh cool the orange sun thing is an actual tip? I just noticed that after nearly burning my ship too many times (just started elite with not much clue to what I’m doing). Noticed the sun stopped being red and saw that my frame shift drive was no longer causing me to burn up. So I just started doing that as a habit. So neat. Thanks for all the tips.
You guys are too good for us. These videos are awesome and I think the community must've saved a lot of puppies out of burning buildings in a previous life to deserve you guys. Please keep up the good stuff.
Some great details in here for the jokes, like a ship literally named Nuns and Children, showing some real dedication. Also keep in mind the right-hand rule only works with the RIGHT hand.
Or instead of confusing people with hands and thumbs, you could just tell them that the letterbox is on the anti-clockwise axis - simpler since there aren't two anti-clockwise directions to require the distinction.
I've just returned to elite and just learned there was a next waypoint button despite owning it since 2014. You have made my current exploring run so much better...
Where have you been all my life Ghost Giraffe ?? Bro, you rock ! Already subscribed, watching all your videos, sharing, liking, commenting, doing it all right now !
I've been playing the game off and on since Beta 2 back in 2013. All this time and I had no idea that the star turning red/orange was an indicator of when it was safe to jump. I always thought red meant you were in fuel scoop range. I feel like I've wasted so much time now.
I understand it's meant to be funny and jokes and stuff and it is, lol. But just for anyone who doesn't know the speed starts out at Meters per second. Then goes into kilometers per second then megameters then of course goes into the all defying C which is the speed of light. I also understand that most of you might know this. Just information for anyone who happens to cross this comment that doesn't know.
Another one that needs a mention is that you should enter and leave the station on the GREEN side of the mail slot! Got my shields taken down the other day by a commander who was boosting through the wrong side of the slot and hit my ship. It's the one place in the galaxy that rules of the road apply!
@@GhostGiraffe Yep, took me quite some time what I was a "...less-CMDR" to realize you can get rid of them, used to annoy me quite a lot. I mention it because I recognized myself in pretty much all issues than you mentioned in your video, so I guess I was not the only one having this problem too 😅
Atm I am more than 10k ly away from the bubble with one single heat sink, so that sun-turns-orange tip will definitely help. Thx guys, awesome as usual!
Made my day ahahahahahah, guys here's something that personally as an horizon content player i have never bothered to look at: MINING IN SRV TO REPLENISH AMMO n repair n fuel n good stuff. i just realized i didn't had to go alll the way back to the bubble to replenish or just be reeeeally conservative about srv ammo and integrity out in the open :D
You guys are having fun making these and it shows. I learned my lesson from watching your last video; this time I made sure there were no drinks anywhere around. Sure enough, flipping the bird finger scene made me laugh at loud.. I had to rewind and watch it again. Keep up the good work! ( on a side note, while these videos are great and fun to watch, the Mars & Sparks series are still my over-all favorite, but hey, who am I? ).

Also you see your docking bay on your radar if you really confused where it is! Usually when dock is very close to letterbox.
I know it was a joke, but for anyone wondering your speed number is meters per second!

I had no idea that's why stars would show as red.
Also doesn't help that I changed the colour of my HUD...
lol same! It’s like the difference between blue and slightly brighter blue
Zyron - Really? What else did you think it might mean?!
That radar thing is the reason I still use the garish default colours.
There's some colour schemes that let you differentiate the radar signals still. I have a nice green one that still displays red colours when needed.
600 hours and I had no idea about the red-orange sun thing lmao
Just found about it before the video too!
I've been playing since Premium Beta in summer 2014 and I didn't know this. Every day's a school day!

I have seen the colour change but never reflected on it. Silly. There are so many core mechanics of the game left to "exploring", which is a bit sad.

It's 100ms metres per second that's what you're seeing there so much faster than 100km that's about 360km/hr :)
That station houdini things looks quite useful, cheers.
;)
this is the best fucking elite dangerous video on youtube. 4 years old and still nothing has topped it.
"second rate humor"...this is top rate comedy...i was laughing so hard i almost died on my coffee
When did you become funny? I love it! Keep up the good work!
lol thanks! I think XD
First Tip was epic! Helps alot!
Second tip...Coriolis Station Entrance...Target Station and look at the arrows an the Radar Hologram at your Ship! :)
M is my waypoint button. But i've done a bit of exploration. As for hot suns, my explorer ships so cool i fsd as soon as its ready. i don't have issue with finding the slot haha, but thats a handy tip. DIDN'T know about the log off trick. Very handy haha, cheers.
As far as taking off without a fuel scoop or SRV. We are so stubborn we will actually jump to another system instead of just turning around.
Ever since I tried out the DBX for deep space exploration I don't even pay attention to heat unless I'm in the glow of O, A or B. None of the other stars can tax the heat load on it enough for me to care.
Yeah same with a keelback we have. It hardly hits 60%
Late to the party here, but this was legitimately the best Elite Dangerous video I've ever watched. Most ED youtubers can barely hold my interest but this... this was great. Well done. Liked and subbed.
Thanks so much! Hope you’ll like our science videos too :)
you guys Should have Millions of Subscribers!!! Great Content!!!
Thanks Bud! You've always been such a great support. =D
Dude you are one of the best youtubers out there. The production quality, the humor, the knowledge. You have achieved a great balance, I wish you great future success.
3:41 im dying...
XD
Been on a hiatus from Elite for a bit but you guys may have reeled me back in! Literally laughing to tears! LLTT?
Whaat tips about the mailslot entrance but no word about the red and green lights?
We shot that but it wasn’t funny so we cut it out. Sorry! Thanks for noticing
I assume the green side is the entrance/exit side of the slot.
Most likely ;)
Port and starboard. Red port , green starboard.
@@TheDudeEffect I can never remember the colors. I remember left is port because 4 letters to each word though. Any easy way to remember the colors?
"This is an exploit we don't want to encourage! Here's a step-by-step tutorial on how to do it."
Uhhh...guys?
"I'm pushing buttons!"
!!!!
I actually use the "next system in route" button all the time. :D
I'm surprised that some people don't. Do they even know how to put their pants on in the morning?
Nope....
Wait.
Where are myyyyyyyy pants?
Your commentary has the most personality I’ve ever heard before and it’s beyond funny and entertaining, I’ve only been watching for 2 minutes and I’m already subscribing!
Thanks bud! Hope you’ll enjoy our other sillier series too. Also occasionally we do actual science videos with NASA. Hope those are fun for you too though not as funny ;)
WhaT country is this
I couldn’t stop laughing
gotta love the Welsh flag
Your ass is grass. Lol
Your videos so far are amazing. So funny but you get straight to the point, it's really well put together.
Thanks!
Haha! Great video guys :D Hilarious!
Thanks man! Have a great one!
I haven't played ED since before the thargoid invasion, i'm logging back in now and watching your great videos, keep it up!
Awesome! Hope to see you out there
I don't even play this game but these are great
Thanks! That’s really great to hear :)
lol, I actually do all this stuff. It was just a few weeks ago (after years of playing) that I realized there was an option for selecting the next system to jump to. Now, when interdicted, I hit ah to see who’s attacking me, then O, for “Oops, I gotta get out of here!”
i like the robo guy
Robo-salute
The "next system en route" button short cut for xbox is perfect... been looking for that for A LONG time... thx
No prob :)
WHERE MY WELSH BOI'S AT
We knew you’d come out of the wood work! Hey Caerphilly has a great sausage factory there. You eat Peters Pies? Say hi to Zeta for us!
Over by here
Heeeere
Station docking is even easier: You don't need to play with your hand or whatever to find the entrance side. The target marker is pointing to it, so if u don't find it just fly in it's direction until it's behind you and turn around. And avoiding crashing into another ships is easier too then a speed limit. Noticed that red & green lights at the entrance ? They mark where ships are supposed to fly out & inside
Hilarious!
Thanks!!!
i just found out about you guys and let me say, im glad someone with more humor than me has made these tips :D i noticed *most* them but dont do my own videos, you guys are geat!! i will definitely show you to my new space pirate pals so they can go chuck slaves into more stars at a more efficient pace!
Hahaha thanks man! Feel free to let us know any ideas you have!
But do you read this one?
Not if it's from you ;)
Ah, but do you read.... This one?
Mmmm, no I’m afraid not
Good, it wasnt worth reading anyhow. ^^
P.S, you guys are awesome :)
Thanks ;) you’re not so bad yourself
I LOLed. I also didn't know about the log off station "oops I forgot something...limpets."
Dude you’re so nice! Remember when we crashed the Ed Lewis stream together?
Like it was yesterday.
Proper laughed at the stills on ‘whoever you are, whatever you’re carrying,’ - genius.
Glad someone laughed at that one! I thought it was particularly funny XD
The hand thing for stations is genius;D
Haha Spawrks and Sarge did great on that one! I’ll let them know :)
It's very nice of you guys to do tips videos since the coming of lots of new players in recent times. They are very useful to everyone :D
Thanks pal! Yeah just want to cover some basics and entertain folks while we are at it;)

"...and if it isn't, then, guess what? IT'S ON THE OTHER FUCKING SIDE!"
That's some funny shit.
You get a like and a sub.
Ha glad you liked that one
That log off/log on station tip was *_ludicrously_* helpful.
Happy to bud
Some great details in here for the jokes, like a ship literally named Nuns and Children, showing some real dedication.
Also keep in mind the right-hand rule only works with the RIGHT hand.
Yep! Thanks pal! So glad you liked this.
Or instead of confusing people with hands and thumbs, you could just tell them that the letterbox is on the anti-clockwise axis - simpler since there aren't two anti-clockwise directions to require the distinction.
Honestly I still confuse left for right
NASA is getting nervous ... twitter.com/aghostgiraffe/status/966325388451381249
Uh oh!
I've just returned to elite and just learned there was a next waypoint button despite owning it since 2014. You have made my current exploring run so much better...
Now I did NOT know the last one. PURE GOLD! Thank you!
I searched for the "Next Waypoint" - Button for YEARS.
Thank you so much :DDD
No prob!
Honestly this has all been a waste of time XD
I understand it's meant to be funny and jokes and stuff and it is, lol. But just for anyone who doesn't know the speed starts out at Meters per second. Then goes into kilometers per second then megameters then of course goes into the all defying C which is the speed of light. I also understand that most of you might know this. Just information for anyone who happens to cross this comment that doesn't know.
How have I not come across this channel before? Great work - and those tips? I am learning new things about this game everyday so thanks for that!
Glad you liked them! Hope you’ll enjoy our other fun series and the occasional science videos we do with NASA! Have a great one!
Most original Elite Dangerous channel I've found, Kudos to the creators
Another one that needs a mention is that you should enter and leave the station on the GREEN side of the mail slot! Got my shields taken down the other day by a commander who was boosting through the wrong side of the slot and hit my ship. It's the one place in the galaxy that rules of the road apply!
lol we did have it in there but left it on the editing board. It wasn’t funny enough. But probably use it on a future video
That was reaaaally cool ^^ You could add the "remove annoying side panels" tip.
Oh like when you look to the sides and panels keep popping up?
@@GhostGiraffe Yep, took me quite some time what I was a "...less-CMDR" to realize you can get rid of them, used to annoy me quite a lot. I mention it because I recognized myself in pretty much all issues than you mentioned in your video, so I guess I was not the only one having this problem too 😅
Atm I am more than 10k ly away from the bubble with one single heat sink, so that sun-turns-orange tip will definitely help. Thx guys, awesome as usual!
Yeah! Hope you make it back alright!
Thanks ha!
You guys are having fun making these and it shows. I learned my lesson from watching your last video; this time I made sure there were no drinks anywhere around. Sure enough, flipping the bird finger scene made me laugh at loud.. I had to rewind and watch it again. Keep up the good work! ( on a side note, while these videos are great and fun to watch, the Mars & Sparks series are still my over-all favorite, but hey, who am I? ).
Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed this one too =) Hope you'll like the next one where we get a little more into the science of things.
This was amazing, thank you. A refreshing change from the barrage of usual monotone hour-long videos
I really hope that you come back and make more content like this.
This is some of the best Elite content on YT, and there's only TWO OF THEM. D: D: D:
These videos are super creative. I love the tips, they are super helpful. But I love how you can give each tip a unique comedy bit. Subbed
Thanks so much!
Love it... legit didn't know about the fist bit, or the ghosting, or any of this. Fantastic!
Glad it was helpful :)
