- Canning outdoors has been a dream of mine for many many years! This week I finally had the proper set up. It's still pretty primitive but it works for now and we have plenty of time to improve upon it in the future. I look forward to many more canning experiences under the trees! :D These tomatoes will be so delicious this winter!!

Great job Paul. Sometimes I watch you recently.. you're smiling all the time lately.. So it makes me think about how if we don't dwell on the sad or disappointing things that happen in our lives but just keep going.. and ask for help when needed... ( Good people get other good people in their lives) then life gets better and we thank God for the blessings. You've taken that rough road, but I see Sunshine in your future. ( Literally and figuratively, give that kid a hug)
They look great. One little suggestion... Do NOT tilt your jars when you take them out to remove excess water on top. Remember those lids have not yet sealed and there is a chance that liquid could seep onto the sealing surface. Love your channel!
Yes Yes
There is no sane limit to how much basil you plant in the garden because 1. Basil is grate for pollinators, 2. Basil has so many uses and 3. It smells amazing when you walk through the garden.
This was wonderful! I have never canned outside but seeing you explain it in such detail was wonderful. I have two pressure canners and when they are both going my kitchen is an absolute terror. Jars and pans and canning stuff covers every surface of my entire kitchen. I can't even prepare a meal without pouring into my dining room! I am going to buy a double and try it outside this summer. Your little family will be well provided for this year! You are just awesome and so enjoy seeing you Amanda, Sunshine and Paul's hands in your videos! LOL! It makes me smile so seeing how happy you are now. God Bless You and Keep you! 🧡
I understand!! Outdoors was so much more enjoyable! And I could watch Sunshine swing and play while I was watching the pressure gauge. The breeze was wonderful and I was so content.. Here's the link to my amazon store if you need to purchase one! www.amazon.com/shop/freedomacres
We look forward to a wonderful year (and life here). Very happy indeed! :D Thanks Rebecca!!
Inquiring minds would like to know who's Paul? Pro video wonderful seeing Miss Sunshine and of course you Amanda as well. Love from Georgia
She posted info on new adventures about 6 weeks back . She explained who Paul is.
Great Question! You can hear all about it here: ua-cam.com/video/YGBGRBEMPz0/v-deo.html
That is a really nice outdoor canning space you have Amanda. Your Tomatoes look so pretty in those jars. Look at Little Miss Sunshine helping you to. You all stay healthy and safe. God Bless Y'all.
Good Job young Lady.
Awesome! I was just talking today about how I could set up for outdoor canning 🤗
Good job! One thing, please don’t use a metal knife to de-bubble, plastic or wood only 😊
Great video! Just wondering what kind of pressure cooker is that for your outdoor propane stove? I have a presto aluminum I'm just worried about it warping..
using the Ball Electric Water Ball canner is safe and Harmless .. I love Mine and have had no problems
HI love the canner but I can't find the one that comes with the screen?
I love ur setup. I’m going try to rig up something for outdoor canning.
I have heard that you can't put a canner on a propane stove because it will warp it? Only the American one can go on propane
Glad to see your success canning outside with your Presto. I've been afraid to use mine on a large burner like yours, afraid it would bow out the bottom. I see you were successful. About how much heat did you use....1/4, 1/2, or more?
I adjusted the flame based on the dial gauge just as I would on my gas stove. Worked beautifully. Your canner will tell you if it needs more or less heat. ;)
Is your outside set up still working? Could you do an update?
I have been wanting to can out doors, but wasn't sure how so nervous about trying. Thank you for showing us how you did your tomatoes. They look great. I am definitely going to try this! Love your videos!
I can’t wait until my garden comes in. I’m going to be canning a lot. I love your setup outside. Your not heating up your house and getting a nice batch of tomatoes. God bless.
Very cool
Which model burner are you using?
I can't wait until I get to put up my tom's and peppers!!..... Love canning, and all those beautiful jars are so rewarding!!
🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻
I can't say I ever wanted to can outside, would be afraid too many bugs would come or something fall from my trees. Nice video.
Grandma Sue in central Indiana and Izzi Too
I can all my tomatoes in my American Standard double decker. I know for sure that pressure canning makes the tomatoes taste better than the way I used to do it by water bath.
Hi Amanda, instead of lemon juice you could try lime juice it’s the same acidity but I think the lime flavor goes better with tomatoes, just something to consider. It must be much cooler canning outside and it doesn’t heat up your house. Lime juice is slightly more acidic than lemon juice.
Thanks for this info! I ran out of lemon juice (and none in the stores right now...), but I have lots of lime juice and was wondering how it would work with tomatoes. I do a lot of V-8 juice for Hubby, and I'm going to try the lime juice this year. ~ Kir in Tennessee
I used lime juice in a pinch last summer when canning salsa! It was fantastic but I'd forgotten all about it!! Thanks for the reminder!! :D
Ron Strobel would you share your v-8 recipe, I love it and it would be cheaper and better homemade. Thanks, Cindy
Is there a video where you intrduce Paul? I am a new subscriber and have been binge watching your videos but have not seen Paul yet...this journey you are on is a fascinating one. Love from Florida 🌅☺
Janice Reeser Thus far there are only glimpses of him in a few videos. Maybe he’ll sit down with me in a video when I start recording fresh content later this year... He doesn’t really like being in the spotlight. Lol
Thank you so much for watching! It’s been a bumpy ride but my sunshine girl and I are so very happy now. 💗 We look forward to recording more in the spring. 😊
@@HearthandDome yes I pray he does it would encourage alot of spouses out there that two are better than one when starting a farming business he would definitely be an encourager to those who are on the fence about gardening and farming from a male perspective. Thank you for answering much love from the panhandle of Florida😉
Amanda you just look so happy. Good to see you and Sunshine . I have never canned outside but our son and daughter in law will put an out door kitchen in when they build the cottage for us . Can't wait . In the Summer time it will be great not to heat up the kitchen canning . Blessing's , Linda
I really like canning outside as well on my Presto. Nice to keep the heat outside!
I've been afraid of canning outside with my Presto. Afraid of too much heat "Bowing out the bottom". Have you had much success outside with your Presto, and, if so, please show in a video.
Amanda, thanks for showing your set-up. Happy canning.
What kind of pressure canner do you use and how many pints and quarts does it hold?
Can I can tomatoes without a pressure canner?
Yes! There are instructions for waterbath canning tomatoes on the ball canning site.
Where do you hold the jars during the cooling period?
Great job. It's hot here in Florida too, I've thought of making an outdoor kitchen.
What a great set up for canning! I see many more canning sessions in your future. What a helpful friend you have in Paul.
Awesome!! Love it!!! Take care and God bless!!! ♥️✝️✝️✝️♥️
It's so good to see Miss Sunshine, I love watching her work with Mom.
Seeing you outside reminds me of camping which I love. God Bless.
I too have an outside canning area. It is a great way to keep your kitchen cool and clean (LOL)
Beautiful set up been wanting to do this myself.. Blessings
Second comment. Paul & You need to build a screened in little outside kitchen with ELECTRICITY so when it gets HOTTER AS IT DOES IN LA. A fan will help. AGAIN YOU GO GIRL YOU LOOK SO HAPPY FROM YOUR EYES & SO DOES LITTLE MS. SUNSHINE. I THINK IT'S PAUL'S LOVE🤗🤗😃🇺🇸💖🙏😇
YES!! We were just talking about plans for the future this morning! A fan will be a must this summer!
HONEY GARLIC IS ONE INGREDIENT YOU MUST BE CAREFUL CANNING WITH. IT WILL BECOME VERY STRONG IN THE CANNING PROCESS. I NEVER USE FRESH GARLIC.. JUST A LITTLE FYI FROM A HOME CANNER OF 40ty plus years. CAN ON GIRL. THANKS TO PAUL FOR HELPING..PRAYERS GOD'S BLESSINGS
Thanks for sharing Julie! I've actually been canning fresh garlic in my salsa, stewed tomatoes, and several other home canned goods for years and love it! ;) Everyone is different!
How awesome, you finally got your outdoor canning space!😊❤️
What about outdoor bugs? I noticed you mentioned the shield keeping the wind off the fire, so I'm thinking a slightly windy day is the trick to this. I'm a mosquito magnet, and my being outside is like a dinner bell for those things.
Sunshine and I use this to repel mosquitoes! Works very well for us! bit.ly/36YnKwN
I prefer to do my canning outside.
Great idea! Good to see precious little Sunshine again!
Thanks for sharing your setup! I asked Deep South Homestead about pressure canning on an outdoor burner last Saturday during their live and they said you had successfully canned outside. I hope to do something similar here on our homestead because my electric stove is too weak and overworked to handle the weight of the pressure canner. Plus the heat it generates in the kitchen is ridiculous.
Yes! It's far too hot in the summer to can indoors. I'm hooked! :D
So glad to see you're able to get back to canning. I know how much you love it!
I didnt know you could can outside. Makes perfect sense . Looks really good. Thankfully you got sunshine as a perfect helper. Good to learn at a early age. God bless and your gang. (-:
I think canning outside when it is summer and hot would be a great thing to do.
If you are pressure canning your tomatoes, no need to add extra acid. You don't add acid for string beans and other veggies.
True! For safety, it isn't necessary when pressure canning but it does help that color stay nice and bright if it sits on the shelf for a couple years. Our current goal is to stock up 2 years worth of veg. It may take us a while but I'm getting in the habit of using lemon juice now. ;) Great catch!
love your outdoor set up :)
I almost always can outdoors.
I have tried it and end up with cracked jars every time. I wait till the canner cools on its own, but I think we just may have too much wind/breeze here. I have thought I might try one of those EZ-Up tents with sides to can in; maybe that would help with the wind but still make it able to do canning outside. ~ Kir in Tennessee
Ron Strobel Ya. I’ve had that happen at times but I live at 5300 feet so I have to use 15 lbs of pressure. Make wind breaks like she has, that might help.
Charlotte from Ky. 😀
Great video, Great Job!
Great video I've always wanted to try to can outside now I have the courage. Please do more videos
I was thinking the Same thing ! ❤️
This was awesome!!! Love the setup.
My concern about canning out in the open is taking hot jars out and having a big difference in temp. I would be worried about glass breakage. Be careful and good luck. Tomatoes look great.
It's warmer outside than in the house where we are so there is actually less temperature difference outdoors right now. Thanks for voicing your concern! Others may have thought the same thing. ;)
@@HearthandDome look at Rose Red Homestead; she cans outside in the winter in Colorado. She has never had a broken jar from cold temperatures.
Great looking tomatoes 🍅
love this good job
Yay! Great job.
I don’t see the link for the burner.
For some reason it didn't save in the description.. Here it is friend! amzn.to/2xDd8pA
Cannot find the stove link.

@@HearthandDome I do not know if it matters, but the link is to a Gas One and not the Bayou Classic.
