My husband and I love watching your videos and teaching the signs to our 2 year old daughter CoraLena who has Down Syndrome. I do have a question. When I’m thinking about something, I put my right index finger to the corner of my mouth, and literally say, “hmmm”. Unbeknownst to me, CoraLena started to pick up on it and now does that whenever I ask her which book are we reading/song are we singing. Does that gesture mean something else in sign language, could we continue using that, or do I need to “reshape” the way I think? lol
Thanks for watching and that is a great question. I do not think that you need to "reshape" anything (cute pun). You have developed a "home sign" naturally with your daughter and it works. Also, I think the index finger to the mouth is often used in that manner between English speaking individuals, a universal sign in the US at least. If you wanted, you could also introduce the ASL sign and maybe use both so your daughter has the option. I am not aware of the index finger to the mouth (with the matching facial expression) meaning anything different or negative in ASL 🤟🏼
You would sign the words: You - think - what? You would point to the person (meaning "you") - sign "think" and then sign "what". ua-cam.com/video/MxWGiBnIBZk/v-deo.html
THAT IS WHAT WE WANNA LEARN, GOOD THINGS!! THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR EDIFICATING CHANNEL!
Thanks for watching!
I work in a dispensary, I can basically communicate but I can't find signs for smoke or concentrate. Can you do a series on that???
Thanks for watching and for new ideas.
Thank you 🤟

@@ASLLOVE thanks again for your insight. Much appreciated 🥰
Isn't the sign for "know" similar?
Yes but with a slightly different handshape. My video for "know" will be posted in the upcoming weeks.
