Remember watching this montage as a kid after a very emotional NC State win. "All Right" conveys a sense of "we might be able to do this" which is a different feeling than "One Shining Moment." both are beautiful sentiments.
I was 5 years old when this happened. Still remember the song. That spring I swear every day in the kitchen there was a coveted can of red cherry soda with NC State Wolfpack logo on the can. Still recall the taste.
And sentimental, as many of those coaches have just died in the last 10 years - Dean Smith, Jerry Tarkanian, John Thompson, Guy Lewis. I’m from southern Indiana and thankful that Bob Knight and Denny Crum are still living. Man, college basketball was so special back then.
The N.C. State Basketball team was 16-10, then won 10 in a row to win the 1983 Championship. Almost all of them upsets. RIP Jimmy Volvano and Lorenzo Charles.

Wow. I remembered seeing this after the championship game. It was pretty awesome. Of course, “One Shining Moment” now has a life all it’s own. I have been looking for this for years. Too cool.
My family recorded this game. The VHS was protected and came out every year during March madness. This song. I always think of it bc it has a bittersweetness to it that gives a nod to both the winner and the runner up.
He did not get to shoot free throws, but the field goal counted. Here’s the story. Fortunately and amazingly, the cheerleader wasn’t seriously injured.
Yo man I can't believe this I used to love these days. I just commented about how they used to play this during the tournament seems to me in 1985 was the last time they played this. They started playing One Shinning Moment in 1991...
From their first broadcast of the tournament in 1982, they played a different song every year until debuting “One Shining Moment” in 1987 and sticking with it.
So before 1987, did CBS do one of these montages covering the whole tournament highlights at the end of every year/title game to a different song? I wish I could see all of them now. This was a real treat.
Yes, and I think they’re all here on UA-cam. Type in NCAA pre-One Shining Moment and the year, and it should come up. The one from 1986 is a very bad fit. I’m from southern Indiana and remember Louisville winning in 1986. When I looked it up a couple of years ago, I had no memory of seeing the montage at all. It’s very uninspiring. A year later when Indiana won the championship, they debuted “One Shining Moment,” and have kept it ever since. They found the perfect song for the event. It sure was special for two schools each about an hour from me to win the championship in consecutive years.
As a fellow 89er, I agree with your statement, although I personally enjoyed the College Basketball years from 1995-2017. Fortunately, I have those games (along with games from the 70s-now) on DVD, to experience them in some form
@thomas tripp @joshua 38 I was born in 1970 and graduated from high school in 1989. I’m inspired that both of you realize how special that era of college basketball was. I’m particularly lucky that I grew up in southern Indiana, where we had large fan bases for three powerhouse teams - Indiana, Kentucky, and Louisville. If you ever have any questions or want some good stories about college basketball in that era, let me know!
@@leczorn yeah this state is NASCAR and college basketball. Indiana has great basketball history. I just remember my talk talking about David Thompson, Fire & Ice, the Houston squad we somehow beat, Ralph Sampson terrorizing the league. Spud Webb winning the dunk contest, at what, 5' 8"? Won with a 360 dunk. Can't imagine how that got its 3" shorter than me and when I was a collegiate wrestler and in great shape, I could grab the rim with one hand, so I have no clue how he does it. Wonder if he or Thompson had a higher vertical for their size.

Mary Barrasso I'm almost positive they used Hall and Oats- "You Make My Dreams Come True" as well. I miss the randomness of songs and loathe "One Shining Moment"
It’s debatable, but I heard that NC State was highly touted early in the season, then was slowed by injuries, but finally came together late in the regular season. Nevertheless, bearing a Houston team with two hall of famers, Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler, was a phenomenal achievement. As for Villanova two years later, they just seemed to matchup very well with Georgetown. The two teams played twice in the regular season and Georgetown won narrowly both times - by seven at home and by two in overtime at Villanova. The Wildcats were pesky and slowed down the games, enabling them to stay close. The shot clock was instated the next season, and with it, Villanova likely would not have won the championship game. Their defenders point out that only twice did they have the ball on offense for more than 45 seconds - the original length of the shot clock - without shooting, but with a shot clock, Georgetown wouldn’t known when Villanova had to shoot and would’ve had a better chance of stopping it. And remember that Villanova sent 22-28 from the field - 78%. That’s about a one in five hundred thing. And it says a lot that after shooting so well, they still only won by two points!
Villanova vs Georgetown were familiar foes from the Big East. Ed Pinckney wasn’t afraid of Patrick Ewing…he played him 8 other times. NC State over Houston was the bigger upset by far.
+Julian Brown Man you just confused me I'am 51 and my memory is fading slightly. I thought 85 G-town & Nova was the first time they used this but you may be right about Van Halen.
