Myself and some members of our RC club helped out the 1st yr aviation students at the local VoTech. They got the Real Flight simulator and installed it on one of their computers. We helped them build LT40 trainers from kits and the students practiced on the sim. At the end of the year we take them out to fly their planes, invariably some planes won't pass our final inspection, but the ones that do we take the students out, trim the planes out and let them fly them, the students using Real Flight all flew successfully, most we never needed to take control to save the plane, a couple of them even landed safely on their very first real flight! It was amazing just how well the students using Real Flight did, they really did learn the basics of RC flight on the sim. A couple years later they got new computers and the computer guys didn't install Real Flight on the new computer, the students were unable to use Real Flight, when it came time to do the flying, they had no idea, they couldn't even make a full circuit without us taking control, none of them were able to fly more than about 30 seconds, as a club we, the trainers were very disappointed in the failure of even one student to fly successfully, Real Flight works if you use it!
Mom got my dad one of the earlier Real Flight systems a few years ago. Watching the video feels like the two of us at the computer with that thing, one hovering and watching while the other plays with it. And we laugh our backsides off at the crashes and such.
Great fun watching this! You guys could post videos of your simulator flights and reactions like this video as a monthly entertainment feature. This was fun watching, but the commentary and cheers were the best part. Keep it up!
Ha, as someone who dabbles both in video gaming and aviation, your PC terminology was quite entertaining. Everyone hates "lock-up!" Great video nonetheless :) have a blessed day!
Loved this episode! You guys always seem to have so much fun. I'm thinking FliteFest+RF-X+big screen tv and some challenges = lots of fun. Maybe something to do for the night owls. Just throwing that out there. :)
Nope. It's great eye candy, but I turned thumbs down for that reason and the fact that the system requirements are WAAAY more than those for RF 7.5... I have a year old PC with Intel Core i7 and a GTX 745 video card that runs RF 7.5 at max settings flawlessly, and I need to spend another $400 to get a 1070 video card to run it maxed out...
@FliteTest You have made my childhood dream come true - flying a remote controlled plane. I thank you folks for your love and dedication for what you do. In India, it is not as easy to get items readily for venturing into rc hobby. Is it possible for you to make a video on a build from items available at home.? That would really be awesome..
FliteTest I can tell you guys enjoy it. Talk about being blessed. And you guys still make time to reply to all your comments. That's really awesome! Some people never reply and no one likes that. Have a good ones guys.
You gentlemen are are real asset for me and stacks of fun. My question is if I want to keep honing my skills with my DX9 what are your recommendations in order to incorporate this new software. Thanks from Pete
@FliteTest and anyone else, i am getting ready to order my transmitter and i am going to make a DIY quad. I dont know how to program/tune the drone. Is there any programs you recommend for setting up your drone?
yeah im curious how the two compare.. wanted to upgrade but ive only read bad things comaring RFX to RF7.5.. i think ill stick with 7.5 until someone can point out a reason worth buying
Sop I have the new DX6E with the wireless dongle. I have RF 7.5 and I hate to buy RF 8 for support for the radio. Do you guys know if they have support yet for this radio. I can not get an answer for this.
I have a question about elevator servos in my simulator. When I use the elevator they don't reset to "0" or flat they stay up or down. Any way to remedy it with setting change or # value to set it to?
im use velocidrne but im building an ar-wing(with f411 and gps with i nav?) and looking for a sim do fixed wing sims not have fpv? just los? is i nav the program i should be trying ? i saw a guy in the desert with an ar wing and was like wow and the parrot disco guy that flys between islands in hawaii
You guys could try a sim called "SimplePlanes", where you need to build your own aircraft and (hopefully) fly it. It really teaches a lot about CG, center of lift, AoA, dihedal, etc, alongside creativity skills.
It should definitely work through the trainer port but no word on if it'll work through USB, directly. There are 2 quads a tricopter and an octocopter.
hi flitetest I really want a realflight sim to buy so I can learn flying rc but I dont know which one to choose because the sim are so expensive in Norway and does it help you to learn fly? And which one should I choose?
Flight test may have other opinions...ones that I even respect, but Clearview is basically all you need. Its roughly 40 US dollars and all you need is a USB four to six channel transmitter. I used a fairly powerful entertainment pc hooked up to a 65 inch Panasonic plasma. You can load in user sourced models and you never have to pay extra for ten planes or Anything like that. I have at least 100 hours on it with various models, from helicopters, 3d planes and jets. It does lack some polish, but it will certainly be sufficient in getting you into the hobby. All told it should cost you less than 65 US dollars to get going and you can manually load in additional models at any time. I hope this makes the hobby approachable for you. I have used Phoenix, Realflight and Clearview. I am telling you there is not 100 dollars of value between them especially when they are charging 40 dollars for 10 extra models.. Plus Realflight does have a proprietary controller that you must use, it literally verifies it every time you open the program. Feel free to ask any additional questions....
I would buy Real Flight 7.5, Nice to fly planes beginner through advanced. Start with something Like the BLT and then work your way up. You might do more research on aerofly and phoenix. Realflight X needs a powerful gaming sim to run properly, and does not have many planes, you also cant edit the planes. Realflight 7.5 has something like 200 planes. I use my old laptop from 2012 and still run 40 fps. I have had a lot of fun with Realflight editing and downloading more aircraft. Good luck!
I'm trying to fly gliders, but the game throws it 3 feet from me... wtf. I can't find any info about how to increase throw speed... there is NOTHING in the documentation, and nothing in any menus. I'm getting frustrated... pls help...
Because it takes real engineers and years and lots and lots of money to develop something that's realistic and runs decently. I've tried basically all the open source sims and they're all very basic and fly nothing like real RC do. Realism is the most important part of simulators. If it's not realistic you might as well fly on GTA V.
$200 was a great investment for me. I saved thousands of dollars not wrecking my helicopters and airplanes. Its pricey when you are a teenager but look at the long run. you will learn a lot with a simulator.
I highly reccomend "picasim". desktop version is all free. mobile edition you pay $5 for a few more planes. I have realflight 6 and 2 as well and would say the flying (exept the drone) feels the same.
HAHAHAHA showoff.... 1st: this video wont let you benefit of the 4k resolution, nor will the game. 2nd: the bigger the screen, the more pixelated anything will look, pretty simple physics. 3rd: don't flatter yourself, nobody cares what you own
I got an Idea. You guys should fly 3rd person by having someone fly a quad following a plane that you fly and you both look through the quads fpv system.
I am 13, and when I was 5 I got a liitle e flite rc helicopter and my dad and I spent hours flying that thing in our living room. Then one day it broke so we got another one. Then my dad bought us a hobby zone champ and we flied that a lot too. When I was 9 I got a Cx2 helicopter for Christmas and I loved it. I've been watching your videos and they are inspiring me and I really want to fly a fpv racing quad. I got the indutrix and I've been trying to teach myself to fly in acro mode. Can you please make some more videos about getting into fpv quads. I really want to get in the hobby and I think I should get a simulator. Thank you so much for making these videos they inspire me a lot. You guys are amazing.
No. I'm sure you can find someone else so you can use their computer to transfer the DVD to a thumb drive. A school? Library? For $36 you can buy an external DVD-R drive. www.amazon.com/BENGOO-Portable-External-Rewriter-Notebooks/dp/B01KV3LKAE/ref=dp_ob_title_ce
Hey flite test I've build my first foam airplane and watching your build videos and other beginner videos why is the elevator set up so that when you put you stuck up it goes down and when you out your stick down it goes up It makes more sense for me to have it the other way and can that cause problems for me in the future
Tyler Check out their video about the high five method for setting up your surface controls. You really dont wanna try flying with the elevator inverted. Trust me, been there lol
Tyler Check out their video about the high five method for setting up your surface controls. You really dont wanna try flying with the elevator inverted. Trust me, been there
i have watch that video but i just doesn't make sense to me why they tell you to set it up so when you push up on the elevator stick it does down and down to go up it seem more logical to set it so up is up and down is down
Tyler The control surfaces work by catching the wind and to every action theres a reaction. When the wind hits the up surface it pushes the tail down, so the plane rotates in the longitudinal axes making the nose go up and the plane climbs. That causes some issues like drag and other stuff, but thats another science by itself. If you want you can confirm the directions by holding the plane vertically and apply some throtlle then move the controls and see where the plane wants tô move to.
thanks you for all your info dias but unfortunately i was more wondering why we set the control up the way we do not really the how it works :P mainly why we set up the elevator to make the plane go up when you push the stick down what makes sense to me is to make the stick reflect the actions of the plane so when you move the elevator stick up the plane goes up and when you move it down the plane goes down. with my first couple flights i have it set up this way and have flow fairly successfully but i don't want to learn the wrong way and have to relearn it latter
You guys had a lot of fun retracting the B-25 landing gear while it is on the ground. My dad flew B-25 during World War II. This was not common but it did happen that Pilots would retract the gear while the plane was on the ground this prompted them to put a sign near the gear handle that said "do not retract gear while on ground"
There is a weight sensor which senses if the plane is on the ground. This sensor prevents gear retraction while the plane is still on the ground. Failure of this sensor would prevent gear retraction after takeoff.
Is it possible to use the controller that comes with this to actually fly a plane in real life? If not, are there any simulators that will work with an actual controller?
Jonathan Streech any that have a "plug-n-play" feature. Check on your transmitter for a socket or a plug of some kind, they're usually on the back. No promises, I'm telling you from what i remember from years back.
Well GF has given the Okay to get it in April as a Birthday present to myself. Always wanted to try real RC but it has too high of a cost for failure so minimizing it like this is ideal. Can't wait till April.
It kinda sounds like you're gun shy of the cost of everything. You can't avoid it. Of course building FT models is the cheapest way to go, 2 to 5 dollars of foam, your time, and the rest is electronics. The radio is one of the biggest expenses, if you want a nice one. Spektrum is good for park flying. FrSky is preferred if you get into quad racing. That is expensive, expect to pay at least $1000 for everything, not including FPV goggles, and many more batteries. You gotta have a radio to use simulators. But Real Flight comes with one or you can use your own. PhoenixRC, you use your own radio. It is preferred by most. It has many more models and sites, and you can load custom ones, like a lot of the FT models, which you can find in the forum. If you don't have the latest and greatest computer with a nice video card, don't even bother with this newest Real Flight X. PhoenixRC runs fine on my 11 year old computer.
"It kinda sounds like you're gun shy of the cost of everything." Not really, it is a matter of how much money did I want to chance wasting. My computer will not be crashed into the ground nor anything else in my house (you did say everything) but this hobby is different. Gravity hurts, I wouldn't have any qualms about RC cars/trucks, boats etc... however this hobby is really not that safe for your vehicle at the beginning. When I first looked into this hobby, there was no foam, there was no electric motors, and the cost of fair radio that had enough channels to ensure the radio would have room to work with expanding ran about $500 cdn. It was gas engines, balsa construction and needing a field large enough to handle that type of aircraft making crashing extremely expensive if it was a bad one. So when I was answering your question about not having a radio, when I last looked into it there was no point to have/buy one when I didn't want to invest too much money. Now the hobby is pretty affordable (a lot less then your $1000 projection) as the guys here at Flite Test have said many times over and over, hence why I feel now is a good time to get into it. Looking into it I can get a basic plane and radio for close to $500, hence my interest. I have no issues on equipment to run this at all and all the bells and whistles you mention are not selling points for me, comparing the two this is fine. A few dollars more but it will work.
Yeah, there's cheap radios, good radios, and ridiculous radios. I went with a good 7 channel radio about 4 years ago, the DX7s. I also got PhoenixRC on eBay from China for less than $15. (That's why I asked if you have a radio) Look up "22 in 1 Phoenix 5" I first built myself a quadcopter and I WISH I would have got the bells and whistles, mainly GPS, the Return to Home feature. My quad got far enough away from me I couldn't tell which way it was pointing and every time I thought I was making it come towards me it was going further away. I eventually lost sight of it and I was out about $375 USD. A simple LED headlight and taillight probably could have prevented that loss. Lesson learned. When I mentioned about 1000 USD for a racing quad, I was referring to Mr. Steel's Impulse Alien RR5 setup. Correction, it's more like $800. that includes the FrSky radio and MOST of the FPV gear except Fatshark goggles. But in order to get an hour of flight time in a day, you'll have to buy 15 to 20 batteries at $35 per. So now you're back up to $1300 to $1500. Check out Rotor Riot.
If you fly Multirotors: *Liftoff* (amazing smooth quad controls and its like $20) If you fly planes/helis: *Aerofly RC 7* (Best graphics out there) Sorry flite test, but that's my personal opinion. I hate paid advertisements. Especially when you can already buy a real transmitter for under 50$ and use it in both sims i mentioned which you can later use for a real rc plane or quad.
Tied to purchase using PayPal checkout from your site but having trouble using and iPAD and IOS.. Paypal page does not load when clicking the Paypal link.. it may be because I clicked on the link to your store from within the UA-cam iOS app.. will buy from you anyway, just thought I would mention if you want to replicate the issue.. best regards, Mark
Why can´t these simulator programmers make the programs for us who use Mac and don´t want to install a full windows copy and take space from the harddrive only to use a simulator? we are many Mac users which fly and would love to be able to practice in the winters if you live somewhere cold as I do " Denmark"
Try WINE. It probably won't work with RFX, but if it does it probably won't run well. Don't complain to us. If you want to complain to someone, direct it toward someone who might actually do something about it: rfsupport@greatplanes.com Otherwise, suck it up and buy a license of Windows.
iZilly Nobody. You seem to be the one complaining about the "hardships" of owning a Macintosh. Well, since *you* made the choice to get one, you get to deal with all of the associated incompatibilities. _However,_ don't just lament about it not working, actually try doing something about it.

This is a great video, had some great laughs with you guys. I need to get this so I can practice more. Thanks for a great and funny video guys!!
smalls loves flying on his RF 7.5 i wonder if there is a upgrade version and the controller is still compatible or will we have to buy another box set
Looks like a great sim. That explorer paint is vaguely familiar. ;)
Indeed! The Box 3!

I laughed pretty hard with this one. Nice review!
Ha, as someone who dabbles both in video gaming and aviation, your PC terminology was quite entertaining. Everyone hates "lock-up!"
Great video nonetheless :) have a blessed day!
This was a great episode. I really loved and you guys are awesome.
Loved this episode! You guys always seem to have so much fun. I'm thinking FliteFest+RF-X+big screen tv and some challenges = lots of fun. Maybe something to do for the night owls. Just throwing that out there. :)
Are VR headsets supported on this pack. It cool be really cool when you can see the virtual rc plane go in stereo view
11:02 Wait, you can't add planes from the Swap Pages? Is RFX even compatible with older Expansion Packs?
As always, thanks for the great video.
Thanks for watching Robotekno!!
Not sure if they are compatible w expansions...!
Blessings,

What are the minimum system requirements to run this at high settings??
Google it
I love how you guys have so much together!!!
Thanks for the kind words IAN!
We def enjoy our jobs!

That is Absolutely AMAZING!!!!
What a HUGE DIFFERENCE from the last one I saw!!!:)
This is Really promising!!!
Indeed John! Can't wait to see what happens next in the SIM world!

If you use the trainer port, yes. If you want to use USB? I don't know.
Loved it guys
9:52 "The prop was screamin' somethin' awful."
How did you get the simulator to selectively "blow" off parts of the airframe? It this a part of the softwre?
I don't I have ever laughed harder watching a UA-cam video. Hilarious.
What computer and setup did you use?
That is very cool guys, that was a great video.
Does this work with taranis controllers?
Does it have fpv drone options or is this only for planes?
It should definitely work through the trainer port but no word on if it'll work through USB, directly.

Good Review
Realy like what u are doing!
I hope u Continue with doing vids. U brought me into this nice Hobby
Greetings from Austria
any multirotor models?
What hardware were you running this on?
Can I connect FlySky FS-CT6B with RealFlight any version?? Any body answer Please. I am beginner.
my laptop doesn't have a CD port is there a downloadable version you can purchase or can it work with an XBOX One?
thanks
hey, could that simulator work with mine remote control Cadet 4 v3? or do you know one that can work with mine if it even can? thanks
where can i buy it? please answer
super awesome video
How much does it cost

I have an i7 and gtx1060 with 16gb ram. This sim is not usable. Really can't understand how they could release it in such bad shape
OnTheSnap1 clearly it isnt that bad
It is. IT REALLY REALLY sucks. Hope they fix it soon as I have a $170 paper weight with what's a pretty top notch gaming machine
OnTheSnap1 real flight is cpu based, not gpu.
Not correct.
OnTheSnap1 I got 5.5 running a 1080 and its not any better than when I was running with a 750 ti
Do any of these Sims work with Mac?
I'm using Realflight 7.5 on my 2015 macbook pro on bootcamp.. no problems so far!
AHH, downloading windows on your mac... clever! lol Good to know

Jonathan Streech I don't think so. you can use real controllers with the sim though
That's helpful, do you know which actual controllers can be used for a simulator?
Jonathan Streech any that have a "plug-n-play" feature. Check on your transmitter for a socket or a plug of some kind, they're usually on the back. No promises, I'm telling you from what i remember from years back.
Thank you.
Well GF has given the Okay to get it in April as a Birthday present to myself. Always wanted to try real RC but it has too high of a cost for failure so minimizing it like this is ideal. Can't wait till April.
Do you have a radio already? If so, which?
Nope, the cost of failure was what was putting me off, there was no point in getting a radio at all.
"It kinda sounds like you're gun shy of the cost of everything."
Not really, it is a matter of how much money did I want to chance wasting.
(That's why I asked if you have a radio) Look up "22 in 1 Phoenix 5"
I first built myself a quadcopter and I WISH I would have got the bells and whistles, mainly GPS, the Return to Home feature.
Ha! Love the Bushes of Love reference 9:50
That's a nice looking sim what are the system requirements? And Can I use it with my Xbox one controller
Ezra keto no only pc but there is a mobile version for tablets and smartphones
I would like to try this before I fly my new champ
AgAir Videos What's the mobile version called?
BobbyJackT realflight mobile
AgAir Videos Thank you!
I think you guys should build a huge 747 with flaps and landing gear
Yes, but does it Mac?
No, go build a PC.
hey +flitetest could you make a indoor ft cruiser
make a plane too look like a bird and use the ULO OWL as the fpv camera that would be cool
If you fly Multirotors: *Liftoff* (amazing smooth quad controls and its like $20)
If you fly planes/helis: *Aerofly RC 7* (Best graphics out there)
Sorry flite test, but that's my personal opinion. I hate paid advertisements. Especially when you can already buy a real transmitter for under 50$ and use it in both sims i mentioned which you can later use for a real rc plane or quad.
guys, can you do a dji vs custom drone dogfight? that would look awesome!
Wow really nice graphics!!!! Better than Phoenix. You guys are so funny😂
Thanks Ben! We def enjoy what we do! And the graphics are def superior to Phoenix at the moment! ;)
S.O.
this would be awesome in vr
gostei da alegria de vocês ai
I want rfx and the controler
well theres one question answered rear fpv view... ive got plenty of radios i dont really want a sim that makes me use another
This is totally irrelavent but it would be so cool if you guys installed a rc runway at the shop :)
They're moving to a new place sometime in the near future. Their driving (flying) range is shrinking.
Mark Williams Thank you mark, we will definitely look into that. -Austin

Greetings from Ukraine !
Hi Jan, I am e-commerce manager for Flite Test. Nice to see fans from the Ukraine and i am glad you are enjoying our show!
Thanks for your answer ! Щиро дякую ! :)
Greetings from Kiev:)

I feel like Jeremy just stared into my soul.
saludos me gustaría saber si pueden hacer un F117 gracias.
Some segments in the video are stamped not adjacent to each other
just about to to to buy an se5e till i saw the video noti fication!!!!!
Looks great! Maybe time to switch from Phoenix?🤔
If you want to complain to someone, direct it toward someone who might actually do something about it: rfsupport@greatplanes.com
Otherwise, suck it up and buy a license of Windows.
Wooow... who pissed on your sandwich?
iZilly
Nobody. You seem to be the one complaining about the "hardships" of owning a Macintosh. Well, since *you* made the choice to get one, you get to deal with all of the associated incompatibilities.
_However,_ don't just lament about it not working, actually try doing something about it.
iZilly you could try NeXt i believe it works on mac.
ScorchingNightfall
Every computer has a day when it stops receiving security updates. Nothing lasts forever.
Grabbing the sim cord and tx right now.
This would be amazing with the HTC Vive
RF 7.5 has multi player. cant believe this one doesnt have it.
another reason to stick with 7.5.. glad i canceled my order before they charged me
Omg they know bushes of love 😂😂😂
So... where is the other Josh??
