Shan was on another level in 1986. If I remember correctly, Kool G. Rap and BDK hadn't released records yet, but let's keep it real. Shan was the face of the Juice Crew in '86 unless I missed that memo stating otherwise. There was nothing on the radio like "The Bridge." It was iconic. It was the first record that I heard which put the history of rap in perspective, although it was a history with a Queens angle. Of course, Kris just went absolutely bonkers when he heard it. Not only did he want to get put on, but Kris was a brilliant, self-educated historian himself. So, it only made sense to attack the throne, which was the Juice Crew at that time. Marley Marl was that man..and Shan was the prince. And Shan did hold his own. Down By Law was an irrefutably hot record....but Boogie Down Productions shut everybody down.
Indeed. The thing I don't get about what G.Rap is saying about BDP singling out Shan was...he/they kept saying "Juice Crew" or some derivative of it a number of times over a few albums. If G Rap used a producer that made some killer beats & music. He'd go platinum now. Even kool Keith said years ago what everyone knew about Nas. His beats were keeping him down.
KRS most certainly called out Marley Marl on Bridge is over. And the reason why Kane & G Rap weren't involved according to Marley was the whole thing started when BDP and Shan and him were in separate studios, same building and Mr Magic was there also and KRS asked what they thought of what he thought of their sound and he was like it was "wack" and that ignited the 🥩
people can say whatever they want NOW. but at that particular time in Hip Hop, Krs was on a fuckin warpath ! not gonna say unstoppable, but he was going for the jugular. and if anybody knows the history of Kane and Krs, you know why Kane didn't get involved. they were boys.
I wonder if the story about how BDP got dissed by Mr. magic about trying to get there songs played on his radio show ....... which he didn't do , on the way out they supposedly took one of Marleys beat reels , those beats make up most of Criminal Minded as I was told

Juice crew ballets were classic Hip Hop.Peace G Beats.
If G Rap used a producer that made some killer beats & music. He'd go platinum now.
Even kool Keith said years ago what everyone knew about Nas. His beats were keeping him down.
@skillkraft - you are mostly right... but it was Western Africa... not the East.
Scott la rock made those beats do your research
CLASSYMUSIC1 You are clearly misinformed. The legendary (May he rest in peace) Scott LaRock did those beats!!!!!!!!
Jamaicans in bk started wearing "fronts" from Al.B Square mall downtown jay st..bk
Indeed fam, when you get a chance google "Just Ice - Back to the Old School" or his video "Going Way Back", man I tripped out when I first saw someone with a gold grill! lol
Yeah G rap you remember the track steady B put out THE JUICE CREW DIS
Funny that G remembers the 3 Times Dope diss. I remember hearing "Juice Crew Diss" on Cool C's album in like '89. I was like "where the hell did this cime from?!?!". I still bumped it because I loved and love that whole album, but it seemed random as hell. Wasn't any internet back then haha....
That record came out in 1987
