You can see Rocky is doing his absolute best to not scare the kittens. He crouches down low with his paws in front, which is “I want to play!” in dog language. And he gently nudges the kittens and resists the temptation to “play bite”. Rocky is a VERY good boy!

German Shepards are really good about caring for other animals or human babies or whatnot. It’s in their DNA to protect.

When I was a young man, I had a shepherd just like Rocky. His name was Samson, and he was the most gentle, loyal and protective dog I have ever owned. I miss him heaps.

This is really adorable. He is a smart boy and gorgeous, and he knows that they are fragile little babies and he is being so gentle and mellow with them. Really sweet.

i love how he's aware of his own size and strength, and he's working so hard not to spook the kittens or hurt them by accident... he knows he can't play with them the same way he would with a german shepherd puppy so he learns the way he can play with them

My big black German shepherd always drooled a lot when meeting some new little baby critter. I had to watch him! He never bothered them after but initially I was on watch!

Such a treat to see how gentle a big dog will be when he meets kittens, he can sense they are helpless and harmless and he has no interest in hurting them... I grew up on cartoons that always showed cats and dogs as mortal enemies and videos like this show us that it's just not true. Such a good boy Rocky is.
You do know the owner is standing that right?
Part of my family had a dog who viewed all cats as her puppies, funny thing about that was that she never had puppies to begin with, she just took one look at a cat and said "you're my puppy".
So when the cats was outside at night, she would lie near the catflap and when they came home she could grab them by the neck and carry them to her bed, as a "do you know how late it is? It's off to bed AT ONCE" thing.

I’ve so far had 2 German Shepherds and it’s my favorite breed. One of the things I love about this breed is that they are so loyal and protective. Yet their goofiness is so great, and people who had Shepherds hopefully agree! I’m looking for my third one now.
