    Pretty sweet build! I just picked up an Ice Cream Truck and she’s a big chunk. It’s XL and I’d bet it’s over 35lbs. Would love that whisky fork one day, but luckily I’m a bigger rider so I can still throw it around as is right now.
    Also love that Wednesday colour of that year.

      Yeah, I like the blue over the new grape color. Congrats on the ICT! I was super close to picking that over the Wednesday. It’s a great bike.

    I love the build!! great video! That fork looks AMAZING! I plan on doing the Edna's Tubeless and The GX derailleur & shifter. I do lik the look of that Whisky bar too. Thanks for the information. Lots to think about going forward it would be nice to off set some of the weight from Bikepacking rack and bags.

      Have another vid coming next week... spoiler alert: GX derailleur is A+. Well worth the upgrade. Hopefully Whisky restocks soon... ordered from like 5 different places to make this happen. Can’t wait to see what you do with yours! Enjoy the fresh snow.

    Nice build. I agree with if you love your bike you will ride more. I love my Surly Ice cream truck. One thing I learned about carbon bars is they are "warmer" when using your pogies in winter since the heat transfer is less than aluminum. I have aluminum bars but not so sure about carbon since i am fearful of breakage. Anyway, i love your bike looks perfect!

      Thanks! Almost got an ICT but thought the Wednesday a better fit for my use. I’ve always been nervous about carbon bars too. I whacked them on a tree the other day at medium speed. I cringed but they held up this time. Thanks for commenting!

    Nice vid, and nice build! Interested to see how it fairs after a few months and some
    miles. I am sure cutting weight will just be a huge improvement. I am planning to do some of these things to my Beargrease to make it a lighter ripper. The ICT will get some love too but am keeping it as the more extreme brute, and bikepacking.

      The tires are my biggest concern, but so far so good!

    • @ElevationEveryWeekend

      @@TheLankyCyclist Not necessarily relevant to these tires, but I have Kenda Small Block 8’s on my cross bike and while the wear a bit faster than I’d like, they’ve always been reliable and durable otherwise, for the reasonable cost.

      @@ElevationEveryWeekend good to know. Kenda advertises at many of the gravel races around here but this is my first go with them.

    Nice. I upgraded my Framed Wolftrax fat bike to Whiskey carbon bars and seat post.
    For light fast rolling tires Jumbo Jims are great.

      How are you liking your bars?
      I couldn’t find the JJs in stock. They were my first choice. Kenda advertises at a lot of races around here and are lighter so figured would give a try.

      another vote for how fast and light the JJs are, especially the Evo Addix versions

    Those new handlebars crack me up, they are straight as an arrow. I love a nice 35mm rise bar

    • @TheLankyCyclist
      @TheLankyCyclist  Рік тому +1

      Running a 38 mm riser now on my MTB. Too many years riding road where the goal is to look the most like a shrimp. Still figuring out MTB bike fit.

      @@TheLankyCyclistMTB fit is a funny thing. With a dropper post most dimensions of the bike barely matter. Just needs to be close enough. Very different than the road world

    I have a ‘16 Wednesday. This is a great video. I’m looking at the Salsa Kingpin fork if I can find it. Then all the Whiskey components (more or less) that you suggested. Thanks!

    How are those Kenda tires holding up. I tried the 120 tpi version of Maxxis Recon tires and got a lot more flats on the rocky terrain in AZ. Went back to the 60 tpi and although a little heavier never had a flat. I swapped out the BB and crankarms when my original BB went bad. Upgraded to the SRAM GX and that saved a half a pound. My Surly KM in a large is right at 30lbs. Looking at that Whisky fork and maybe some IBIS wheels which will save a pound. Love these simple bikes.

    • @TheLankyCyclist
      @TheLankyCyclist  3 роки тому

      Held up well, but the MTB trails in NE Ohio are more flowy and less rocky than what you have in AZ. Not very grippy in the wet, but when its wet, the trails are usually closed anyway. From the stock Wednesday build, I saved nearly three lbs switching to the Whisky fork. It changed the head angle slightly, but was well worth it. Simple is good. Too much gimricky today, especially in the gravel bike space.

    • @schadlarry
      @schadlarry 3 роки тому

      @@TheLankyCyclist Yeah I would get flats with 120 tpi tires just by riding over somewhat pointy rocks. Nothing a couple bacon strips couldn't patch but still. Those Whisky parts do look cool.

    You want to sell that old fork?
    I have juggernauts. I will say they dont hook up great in wet anything. I wiped out a couple times on just wet down hill stuff. totally useless in snow. seem solid on like hard pack stuff.

    • @TheLankyCyclist
      @TheLankyCyclist  3 роки тому +1

      Usually I would but going to hold onto for a future bike packing trip that may or may not happen.
      Hah, might be in for a rough summer on the MTB trails!

    I have a good sale price to buy a Wednesday frame and do my first bike build. Is the riding position relaxed on this frame? I'm looking to do some long distance riding maybe backpacking on it? Thank you for your videos- They really help!

      Honestly, I’m not sure. Might want to check out All Bodies on Bikes. They probably have more specific guidance in terms of frames/wheels etc. Steel as a frame material would probably be best… the more overbuilt the better.

      @@diamondbackbill7819 was a fun project. My only regret was the tires. Went with Kenda juggernauts which were the lightest I could find… they didn’t offer much grip and were pretty delicate. Think maybe schwalbe had a tire that was a bit heavier but probably more robust. Can’t remember the name but it might not be manufactured anymore. Vaguely remember being unable to track it down. Good luck with your build.
