Lyrics
You may not like the things we do
Only idiots ignore the truth
It's easy to lay down and hide
Where's the warrior without his pride?
We're gonna move real good (Yeah, right)
We're gonna dress so fine (Okay)
It's dog eat dog eat dog eat dog eat dog eat dog eat dog eat dog eat dog
Leapfrog the dog and brush me, daddy-o
Ah, ah, ah, ah
It's easy to lay down and hide
Where's the warrior without his pride?
You may not like the things we say
What's the difference, anyway?
We're gonna move real good (Yeah, right)
We're gonna dress so fine (Okay)
It's dog eat dog eat dog eat dog eat dog eat dog eat dog eat dog eat dog
Leapfrog the dog and brush me, daddy-o
Ah, ah, ah, ah
It makes me proud, so proud of you
I see innocence shining through
It makes me proud, so proud of you
I see innocence shining through
It makes me proud, so proud of you
I see innocence shining through
It makes me proud, so proud of you
I see innocence shining through
It makes me proud, so proud of you
I see innocence shining through
It makes me proud, so proud of you
I see innocence shining through...
Those double drums are just brilliant
Saw em live in Australia 80
and was amazing
Will you hear dubble drums, listen to LILIAC:
Oh well. Its 3.22am. Can't sleep. Listening to Adam and the Ants. First loved them when I was 8. Am 48 now. Still sounds amazing.
I was around 9 orr ten when I fell for Adam ant
50 , I lossed my m8nd at a 4th an B S.Diego 2nd row in '83 . I heard screaming coming from somewhere but , it was me 🤯💥🤯💥😱
Man! Adam Ant had the same level of the greatest musicians and singers of the music history. Like Elvis, Jim Morrison, Michel Jackson. He is A genius! Nobody broke the musical standard in the industry and innovated as much as this man, it's almost unbelievable how he didn't get stuck in the underground scene and became one of the biggest pop culture idols in the late 70's and become a big star from the 80's in Europe and the United States . It would be asking too much for the general public to understand what Adam Ant's music is. I am happy to announce that I have discovered this musician, and I am happy that he still has a loyal following today. I'm 33 years old.
Lmao, Claire, it's 3.29am, can't sleep, so I'm cranking up some Adam and the Ants :) .
They sure do.And amazing image. Mr Prince Charming.
Marco Pirroni and Adam, what a brilliant team they were.
Marco Pirroni and Stuart Goddard.
But yes, they were a great team!
This was top of the pops in October 1980, I sat there as a 9 year old watching this performance and was like wow , bought the single a few days later with my pocket money and it was the first record I ever bought myself. Fantastic times.
Mark Ryan same here I’m going to see him tonight can’t wait lol
I did as well I think my mum got the record cant remember
Kings of the Wild Frontier was the first album I bought with my own pocket money in 1980 at the grand old age of 5 😌
I was 14 years old I loved the double drums on it fantastic
Richard Blade was playing all the news wave music &ska / i was there 🎉/could not wait to get home
I remember buying this Album 1980, I was 17, The whole album is AWESOME 💯😎 I still listen to it at age 60❤❤❤
Adam Ant was won of coolest performers of the 80s , bar none.
With you on that frankie!
@@timheathfield8700 ABSOLUTELY 💯%! 👌 ❤ ♥ 😍 💖 !Frankie!ABOUT ADAM ANT!
He was Prince before Prince.
THOSE DOUBLE DRUMS THOUGH...Love this man and his band. But yeah, those double drum beats get to me!
THE SAME HERE ABOUT ADAM ANT AND Marco Porroni!
First rocker to do that
Those were not the drums used in the recording, and hearing them live at the Prince Charming Revue makes that clear. The real drums were called Burundi Drums and were huge... they had to be for that nice bass sound. I think Malcolm McClaren must have heard them on a cultural show and thought "I'm going to be rich".
@@darrenjohnson7857 no he wasn't ! James Brown/Otis Redding/The Allman Brothers Band did it in the 60s - The Glitter Band/Showaddywaddy/Charlie Daniels Band/Gary Glitter did it in the 70s plus there were many many more artists who used 2 drummers before Adam and The Ants - but a big influence was The Glitter Band (of whom he performed with back in 2010).
@@robhaunui3343 My bad / you Right !
honestly this performance is one of my favorites to re-watch.
his stage presence is captivating and this look is iconic to me.
Yeah I agree..
It's fucking lip-synched in a time when bands played real music.
Sad that they were miming. I remember when I first heard them live. I was so disappointed
This appears to be some top of the pops or them like not a real live performance. That I’d like to see if there are videos.
@@thomasedmundrichards its TOTP , they used to play the track so they could cut the song short 👎🏻
before Jack Sparrow there was Adam Ant
Heck yeah 👊😆
This was their first appearance on Top of the Pops. The stage was empty because no-one in the audience had heard of them. The next appearance was different because Ant Music had taken over the UK, so when they next played Kings of the wild Frontier on TotP, they were being mobbed. The thing that's always struck me is, for newbies, they were already incredibly confident. I was a huge fan of them in the late 70s, but absolutely loved them in their Kings of the wild Frontier period. I think it's one of the best ever second albums by any band in any genre.
ADAM ANT As A COOL 😎 CAT 😎 🐱 🐈 🐈⬛ Lover! BOY 🐈 😻 🐈⬛ 👦!
I always thought they were overrated. Circ 1980 81, i was so into the jam at the time, so maybe i was stuck in my blinkered and tribal 14 year old mindset back then. Good analysis though by u describing AATA. But ive remained a jam disciple all my life.😀
@@colingeddes2172 I love The Jam too & bought all their albums. I was into punk & New Wave at the time, & loved Adam & the Ants in the era of Dirk Wears White Sox when they were closely intertwined with Siouxsie & the Banshees. Unlike many punks I was happy they went mainstream because it meant I could hear them everywhere & I could talk to my friends about them. I was the only one in my group into punk & it got lonely sometimes. I was only a child, in my first year of secondary school.
@@angelaburrow8114 kudos to u for your individualism and walking your own path regarding your early musical genre. The fact u loved AATA pre kings of the wild frontier speaks for itself. Car trouble from dirk wears white sox is a great track, but like i say , i was a bit of a musical snob at 14 years old. When the jam split up, i then got massively into BIG COUNTRY. Ps 👍 that youve got every jam album.💯 respect.
Absolutely agree with you on everything you said the idea for the Burundi drums & image was the idea of sex pistols manager malcolm mcclaren who stole the original ants 🐜 from Adam to form bow wow wow
This song for me encompasses the Ants. You got the booming Burundi drums giving that classic tribal beat, the screaming and chanting in the intro and outro which even to this day gives me shivers down my spine, Marco's throbbing guitar and Adams sublime delivery on vocals.
This was my first band, back as a wee 6 year old laddie. I just fell in love with the sound, the whole Pirate image. Amazing band to listen to even now. It further proves that great music lives forever.
Absolutely 💯 classic 👌.
Surprised by how poetic truth is in Adam Ant's lyrics. Curious if he wrote all these songs. Respect. Not just a pretty head.. Has a brain in there, too.
I was 18 and fortunate to see him in concert. Hands down BEST performer. His music still empowers my soul.
I absolutely love Adam Ant.
Watching these videos transports me to the 80s
Maravillosos años 80 de buena música.
Adam Ant 🐜🐜🐜 At His Finest, The Whole Band Is FINE ❤❤❤
So handsome and fit it’s UNREAL
The drums are so "signature" you can always tell immediately it's Adam Ant right off the bat!
I believe Dave Barbarossa started that type of drumming with Adam back in the day and he kept it as part of his sound. Dave later played on the song "Ready to Go" by Republica. you can definitely hear that style coming through.
The first notes still send chills down my spine as they did in 1981!
Same here!

Adam Ant one of the best of the 80 s he is gorgeous I loved his look and singing
I hadn't thought of or heard this song in many years. It really is a unique, special and fantastically timeless sound. That hypnotic outro is sublime; it's powerfully evocative of a beautiful nostalgia for me. I found it so emotional to hear it again now and rediscover that sensation that it made me cry, and I can't really explain why!? That's when you know a song or any piece of art is not just really good, it's great.
Know what you mean x
the outtro is stunning
I hear you - It`s the combination of the repetitive vocal harmonies, the chants and the enhancing drum drops - It has a bit of a farewell character (to me).
You did cry, because you were young these days. Not because of Adam. There was other bands...
This is the play back performance that made them famous. Shown at the end of an episode of TOTP as a “tip for the top” it blew everyone’s minds and gave them their first hit.
Top of the pops
My goodness, and to think this came out when I was only 14.. sheesh.. I will never forget Adam and the Ants.
He is very beautiful and no one has come close, named my son after Adam ant, my son is 30 now and he’s well proud as he thinks he was so cool
Awesome Louise!!!!
Best Song Ever!
Not live in Manchester. This TOTP, first TV appearance. Remember seeing this at the time and this changed my outlook. Also, how cool was Kevin Mooney
I am obsessed with the way he moves. A natural stage presence. Oh, and the bass player is fire
What a great MAESTRO, Pirroni on the guitars..
Great performances from the band. Timeless music from the Ant
I was a 15 year old DJ back then in a club where the "Squatties" (Rhine Army) would roam on the weekends. Although i love the song, it always had a subtle potential of intimidation in it , because when the squatties got pissed up, they were always up for a brawl and this was one of those songs that animated them - The smell of battle was in the air.
More stories, please, that's quite poetic.
Top artist performer he is, and this tune is a masterpiece just like almost all of his material
Shades of his hero Marc Bolan by Adam, see it a mile off. 👏👏👏
I was 7 when this came out and one of my older brothers was 17 just hearing takes me back to a great time ,all those ant singles had real good quality sound on the vinyl and could be really belted out
This is soooooooo good. I never tire of it. The sound, the image, all of it. Mwah!
i was 6 when this came out and for a year or two adam ant was so dominant ,,80-81 he was untouchable and that sound is as mesmerising now as it was when i was a kid ,superb
Lush man!!!!!! 💜 ♥ 💟 takes me back. Better times of my life X
Love all the Ahhhhhhh. Huh, and whistles an shouts like an invasion
Every band should have 2 drummers. As awesome as when I heard it in the early 80s.
Jot division "love will tear us apart " with 2 drummers would burn the house down 🔥
This brings me back to my teens and had them all over my bed room walls and loved dressing like him. Coolest band ever 😍xx
Extremely talented man
This isnt live...its Top of the Pops. He is lip-synching. Still brilliant. I don't think any man has ever been as beautiful and sexy as this...and how he can move.
I think everyone lip syncs on TOTP
I do agree and I'm not gay 😂😂😂
@@samanthalewin4397 They did, for years, and then it got so ridiculous that TOTP made them sing. One Xmas Duran Duran just made a total mockery of the lip synch, like not even pretending to play the sax....
I totally freakin agree. So good looking !
Saw them @ The Greek in L.A. in 1980 at age 21 (when this was called NEW ROMANCE MUSIC)...Just when I thought they were a one album wonder I saw them @ the Palladiun on Hollywood for Desperate but not Serious two years later. A great performer....truly original.
Still love this music...it still gives me goosebumps
I love that sound xx
Still got this vinyl album it's great
I lent mine to a friend and never got them back!
the outtro of this song has always been stunning, even my old man back in the day when this was released said he liked this song and he was 33 at the time,my parents let me go see em in melbourne with a friend in '81,i was only 14 dressed up like the dandy highway man
That chant got me years ago. Nice to revisit 👐🏼👍🏼
Que buena es esta canción.Me trae recuerdos de mi juventud.Muy buenos los Adan & The Ands.🙋🇪🇦
Legendary thank you 😊 🙏 🙌 👏 ❤.
I was 13,my first poster was of Adam ant ,my first cassette. Was kings of the wild frontier, the good old days
Thank you Adam for all the wonderful music and lyrics
He was a good showman
Makes me proud🎶
i would love to see a doc on the recording and production of this album.
Really!TDC!Haha!
hes moving soo fast
my buffering had 2 pick up
he helped Vanity w/ her showmanship skills
thx Adam
live my arse. this is Top of the Pops. Famous for miming. Recored in a tv studio in London.
De niño soñaba con una camisa cruzada, como los Adams!
En aquellos tiempos yo tenía 20 años y me gustaba la música de los Adan & The Ands. Y me siguen gustando con 60.Un saludo.
Love the percussionist work,
Damn near peed my pants.. makes my heart race and moves my soul 💋
Aye, we all need our Adam Ant Fix, Daddio! ... And improve on Dance Moves ... 😎
Every time I hear this song I imagine a group of river dancers dancing along especially when Adam goes Dog Eat Dog.
Fabulous talent look Adam needs an Oscar a great actor! X
Perfection in every meaning !! Was 15 by then but stucked inside my heart since !
I was about 7 watching this on top of the pops. Happy days. Never forget.
I thought it was a wonderful performance, adam ant = spectacular
Sounds Great !
@@jeanbaumgartner4052 He's such a great performer! He's got such energy and is great on stage ❤️
Dog eat dog, ain't that the truth, great music, love those drums. 🥁
Probably my favorite
Bravo!!!
There are certain bands that change the perception of pop music and Adam and the Ants were one. First heard this and thought wow. After this it was Frankie wow.
This was my David Bowie moment. Everyone talks about Ziggy Stardust on TOTP but this was every bit as monumental.
Don’t even compare Adam ant to Bowie who was Billion times better than Adam and his pants
Thanks for including the lyrics. I love to sing along!
There best song by a mile
The creativity of the song is beautiful am smiling for ear to ear
It's Dig eat dog, watcha' me Daddio! ... 🎵 🎶🤘😎🎸
Terry Lee Miall and Merrick aka Chris Hughes on drums, Kevin Mooney on bass and Marco Pirroni on guitar
love Adam...
Great performance Adam!
Live in Manchester? More like Top Of The Pops! Glad it's made an appearance on VEVO!
This is the REAL Live In Manchester: ua-cam.com/video/FUWCmX_ozbQ/v-deo.html
I still love the sound and the image
These guys are in their 60's now. Where did the years go?
That’s not live in Manchester - it’s Top of the Pops, the first performance on TV ever 😃
Easily their best song.
Fabulous 👌 ❤️ 😍
I love this Song ❤❤
Molan los Adán and the ants. Tuve el LP en el que venía esta canción, entre otras también buenas.Recuerdos de mi juventud.
Psychotropics are heaven sent adam ant may you have good cognitive skills
Not live in Manchester. In the audience, there would no doubt be side eye from Mark E Smith . One of my favorite Ants tracks.
Adam Ant is amazing
I saw them in Richmond, VA in 2017. They have a small but devoted following here in the USA.
Still have the stub from the Apollo back in '81.
Glasgow Apollo? Anyway my parents wouldn't even let me go over to Edinburgh to see him for Vive le Rock. Even if i was 17. But when i was 18 they said no probs to me going to see The Damned in London.
@@Kelly14UK No...Manchester 😊
@@notlob23 Some of the best music in the world came out that city
@@Kelly14UK It certainly did! 👍

LOVED THEM STILL GOT KOTWF ALBUM
Eternos!
Sounds great
Adam and the Ants are the reason I started playing drums
This is wrongly captioned - this is in fact their appearance on Top of the Pops (which at one time did come from Manchester)
Yessss, remember the thrill by then: ant still so !
I was about 9 or 10 when this first came out in the charts, and I was instantly hooked and left a profound impression on me. Being very innocent it never occured to me that Adam might be a HUGE attraction for the girls, and so in 1990 I was working in a bakery with this attractive blonde girl the same age as me, with a sweet shy nature who became a good friend. The topic of Adam & The Ants came up and we both recalled how much we loved his music, and then I realised he might be a good looking guy etc, and asked her what she thought. Her reaction was memorable for me, because she blushed, her breasts started to increase in size and nipples etc, and she nodded and said yes and she fancied him etc. All those years later and Adam still had a big effect on her. There is a sad part to this little story, as a few years later in 1997 she took her own life. I did not see that coming and miss her very much to this day. RIP Fiona McDonald 1969-1997.
Awww thats a lovely but sad story. Its funny how music triggers of so many memories.. hope ur doin good now...
@@jackieblu7111 Thanks. She was a lovely beautiful soul and I miss her very much. On a more humourous note, there was another time in the bakery when the other lads were bored, and so began gently teasing her. In her own way she was innocent natured too, and the lads convinced her that masturbating for them was an essential routine to relieving the pressure of too much sperm in the testicles. After about ten minutes they stopped and admitted they were making it up. I bet she wanted to kill them lol.
Her breasts increased in size and her nipples got hard?
Your a funny guy
Delusional, but funny
Wow. Heavy Story. Beautiful man, just. . .wow.
This isn't live, this is the single version.
